1 “ʻOku tetetete hoku loto foki ʻi he meʻa ni, pea homo mei hono potu.
At this my heart trembleth, And leapeth out of its place.
2 Ke ke fanongo lelei ki he longoaʻa ʻo hono leʻo, mo e fatulisi ʻoku ʻalu atu mei hono fofonga.
Hear, O hear, the thunder of his voice, And the noise which goeth forth from his mouth!
3 ʻOku ne fakahinohino ia ʻi he lalo langi kotoa pē, mo ʻene ʻuhila ʻoku aʻu atu ki he ngaahi ngataʻanga ʻo māmani.
He directeth it under the whole heaven, And his lightning to the ends of the earth.
4 Hili ia ʻoku ʻuʻulu ʻae leʻo: ʻoku ne mana ʻaki ʻae leʻo ʻo hono ngeia; pea ʻi he ongoʻi ʻo hono leʻo ʻe ʻikai te ne taʻofi ia.
After it the thunder roareth; He thundereth with his voice of majesty, And restraineth it not, when his voice is heard.
5 ʻOku mana fakamanavahē mai ʻe he ʻOtua ʻaki hono leʻo; ʻoku fai ʻe ia ʻae ngaahi meʻa lahi, ʻaia ʻoku ʻikai te tau faʻa ʻiloʻi.
God thundereth with his voice marvellously; Great things doeth he, which we cannot comprehend.
6 He ʻoku pehē ʻe ia ki he ʻuha hinehina, ‘Ke ke ʻi he kelekele koe;’ pea pehē pe ki he taumosi, mo e ʻuha lahi foki ʻo hono mālohi.
For he saith to the snow, “Be thou on the earth!” To the shower also, even the showers of his might.
7 ʻOku ne tāpuni ʻae nima ʻoe tangata kotoa pē; koeʻuhi ke ʻilo ʻe he tangata kotoa pē ʻa ʻene ngāue.
He sealeth up the hand of every man, That all men whom he hath made may acknowledge him.
8 Pea ʻoku toki hū ʻae fanga manu ki he ngaahi ʻana, ʻo nofo ʻi honau ngaahi potu.
Then the beasts go into dens, And abide in their caverns.
9 ʻOku haʻu ʻae ʻahiohio mei he feituʻu tonga: mo e momoko mei he tokelau.
Out of the south cometh the whirlwind, And cold out of the north.
10 ʻOku tupu ʻae hahau ʻi he mānava ʻae ʻOtua; pea ʻoku ʻapiʻapi ai ʻae māukupu ʻoe ngaahi vai.
By the breath of God ice is formed, And the broad waters become narrow,
11 Pea ʻi he faʻa ʻuha ʻoku ne fakamanifinifi ʻae ʻao matolu: ʻoku ne veteki ʻa ʻene ʻao ngingila:
Yea, with moisture he burdeneth the clouds; He spreadeth abroad his lightning-clouds.
12 Pea ʻoku ʻave fakatakamilo ia ʻe heʻene fakakaukau: koeʻuhi ke nau fai ʻaia kotoa pē ʻoku ne fekau kiate kinautolu ʻi he funga ʻo māmani ʻi he fonua.
They move about by his direction, To execute all his commands throughout the world;
13 ʻOku ne pule ke haʻu ia, ko e meʻa tautea, pe ko e meʻa ʻa hono fonua, pe ʻi he ʻaloʻofa.
Whether he cause them to come for punishment, Or for the land, or for mercy.
14 “Ke ke fakafanongo ʻe Siope, ki he meʻa ni: tuʻu mai ʻo fakakaukau ki he ngaahi ngāue fakaofo ʻae ʻOtua.
Give ear to this, O Job! Stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God!
15 ʻOku ke ʻilo naʻe fakatonutonu ia ʻanefē ʻe he ʻOtua, pea pule ke huhulu ʻae maama ʻo ʻene ʻao?
Dost thou know when God gave commandment to them, And caused the lightning of his cloud to flash?
16 ʻOku ke ʻilo ʻae potupotumālie ʻoe ngaahi ʻao, ʻae ngaahi ngāue fakaofo ʻo ia ʻaia ʻoku haohaoa ʻi he ʻilo?
Dost thou understand the balancing of the clouds, The wondrous works of Him that is perfect in knowledge?
17 Pea ʻoku mafana fēfē ho ngaahi kofu, ʻoka ne ka fakatofutofu ʻae fonua ʻaki ʻae matangi tonga?
How thy garments become warm, When he maketh the earth still by the south wind?
18 He naʻa ke kau mo ia ʻi he folahi atu ʻae langi, ʻaia ʻoku mālohi, pea ʻoku tatau mo e sioʻata haka?
Canst thou like him spread out the sky, Which is firm like a molten mirror?
19 ʻAko mai kiate kimautolu pe ko e hā te mau tala kiate ia; he ʻoku ʻikai te mau faʻa fakatonutonu ʻemau lea, ko e meʻa ʻi he fakapoʻuli.
Teach us what we shall say to him! For we cannot set in order our words by reason of darkness.
20 ʻE tala kiate ia ʻoku ou lea? Kapau ʻe lea ha tangata, ko e moʻoni ʻe fōngia hifo ia.
Shall it be told him that I would speak? Shall a man speak, that he may be consumed?
21 Pea ko eni ʻoku ʻikai mamata ʻe he kakai ki he maama ngingila ʻoku ʻi he ngaahi ʻao: ka ʻoku ʻalu ʻae matangi, ʻo ne fakamaʻa ia.
For now men do not look upon the light, When it is bright in the skies, When the wind hath passed over them, and made them clear.
22 ʻOku haʻu ʻae ʻafua mei he tokelau: ʻoku ʻi he ʻOtua ʻae ngeia fakamanavahē.
From the north cometh gold; But with God is terrible majesty!
23 Ko e Māfimafi, ʻoku ʻikai te tau faʻa ʻiloʻi ia: ʻoku lahi ia ʻi he mālohi, mo e fakamaau, pea mohu angatonu: ʻe ʻikai te ne tautea.
The Almighty, we cannot find him out; Great is he in power and justice, Abundant in righteousness; he doth not oppress.
24 Ko ia ʻoku manavahē ai ʻae kakai kiate ia: ʻoku ʻikai te ne tokanga ki ha tokotaha ʻoku loto poto.”
Therefore let men fear him! Upon none of the wise in heart will he look.
