1 “ʻOku ʻeho ʻeku mānava, kuo ʻosi hoku ngaahi ʻaho, ʻoku tali ʻae ngaahi luo kiate au.
My spirit shall be wasted, my days shall be shortened, and only the grave remaineth for me.
2 ʻIkai ʻoku ʻiate au ʻae kau manuki? Pea ʻikai ʻoku nofomaʻu ʻi hoku ʻao ʻenau ʻahiʻahi kovi?
I have not sinned, and my eye abideth in bitterness.
3 “Ko eni, ke tuku hifo, ke ai haʻaku fakamoʻoni meiate koe; ko hai ia te ma tā nima mo au?
Deliver me O Lord, and set me beside thee, and let any man’s hand fight against me.
4 He kuo ke fufū honau loto mei he ʻilo: ko ia ʻe ʻikai ai te ke hakeakiʻi ʻakinautolu.
Thou hast set their heart far from understanding, therefore they shall not be exalted.
5 Ko ia ʻoku ne lea lapu ki hono kāinga, ʻe vaivai ʻae mata ʻo ʻene fānau ʻaʻana.
He promiseth a prey to his companions, and the eyes of his children shall fail.
6 “Kuo ne tuku au ko e taukaeʻanga ʻoe kakai; ka naʻaku tatau muʻa mo e meʻa faiva.
He hath made me as it were a byword of the people, and I am an example before them.
7 Kuo nenefu hoku mata ko e meʻa ʻi he mamahi, pea ko e ata pe ʻa hoku kupuʻi sino kotoa pē.
My eye is dim through indignation, and my limbs are brought as it were to nothing.
8 ʻE ofo ʻae kakai angatonu ʻi he meʻa ni, pea ko e taʻeangahala te ne ueʻi ia ki he mālualoi.
The just shall be astonished at this, and the innocent shall be raised up against the hypocrite.
9 ʻE fakakukafi foki ʻae māʻoniʻoni ʻi hono hala, pea ko ia ʻoku nima maʻa ʻe fakahoko ʻe ia ʻae mālohi ki he mālohi.
And the just man shall hold on his way, and he that hath clean hands shall be stronger and stronger.
10 Ka ko kimoutolu kotoa pē, mou foki ʻo ʻalu: he ʻoku ʻikai te u faʻa ʻilo ha taha ʻoku poto ʻiate kimoutolu.
Wherefore be you all converted, and come, and I shall not find among you any wise man.
11 Kuo ʻosi hoku ngaahi ʻaho, kuo motuhi ʻeku ngaahi tuʻutuʻuni, ʻio, ʻaia naʻaku loto ki ai.
My days have passed away, my thoughts are dissipated, tormenting my heart.
12 ʻOku nau liliu ʻae pō ko e ʻaho: ʻoku fuonounou ʻae maama ko e meʻa ʻi he fakapoʻuli.
They have turned night into day, and after darkness I hope for light again.
13 Kapau te u tatali, ko hoku fale ʻae faʻitoka pē: kuo ngaohi hoku mohenga ʻi he fakapoʻuli. (Sheol )
If I wait hell is my house, and I have made my bed in darkness. (Sheol )
14 Kuo u pehē ki he popo, ‘Ko ʻeku tamai koe:’ pea ki he kelemutu, ‘Ko ʻeku faʻē,’ mo ‘hoku tuofefine.’
If I have said to rottenness: Thou art my father; to worms, my mother and my sister.
15 Pea kofaʻā eni ʻa ʻeku ʻamanaki lelei? ʻIo, ko ʻeku ʻamanaki lelei, ko hai te ne mamata ki ai?
Where is now then my expectation, and who considereth my patience?
16 ʻE ʻalu hifo ia ki he ngaahi tāpuni ʻoe luo, ʻoka tau ka mālōlō fakataha ʻi he efu. (Sheol )
All that I have shall go down into the deepest pit: thinkest thou that there at least I shall have rest? (Sheol )
