Siope 10
1 “ʻOku fiu hoku laumālie ʻi heʻeku moʻui; te u tuku au ke u lāunga; te u lea ʻi he mamahi ʻo hoku laumālie.
Weary in my soul, I will pour my words with groans upon him: I will speak being straitened in the bitterness of my soul.
2 Te u pehē ki he ʻOtua, ʻoua naʻa ke tuku au ko e halaia; fakahā mai pe ko e hā ʻoku ke fakamamahiʻi ai au.
And I will say to the Lord, Do not teach me to be impious; and wherefore hast thou thus judged me?
3 He ʻoku taau mo koe ke fakamamahi, koeʻuhi ke ke fehiʻa ki he ngāue ʻa ho nima, ka ke fakamaama ki he fakakaukau ʻae angahala?
Is it good before thee if I be unrighteous? for thou hast disowned the work of thy hands, and attended to the counsel of the ungodly.
4 He ʻoku ke mata fakakakano? Pe ʻoku ke mamata ʻo hangē ko e mamata ʻae tangata?
Or dost thou see as a mortal sees? or wilt thou look as a man sees?
5 He ʻoku tatau ho ngaahi ʻaho mo e ngaahi ʻaho ʻoe tangata? Mo ho ngaahi taʻu mo e ngaahi ʻaho ʻoe tangata,
Or is thy life human, or thy years [the years] of a man,
6 Koeʻuhi ʻoku ke ʻekea ʻeku angahala, mo ke hakule ʻa ʻeku fai kovi?
that thou hast enquired into mine iniquity, and searched out my sins?
7 ʻOku ke ʻilo ʻoku ʻikai te u fai kovi, pea ʻoku ʻikai ha taha ʻe faʻa fakahaofi mei ho nima.
For thou knowest that I have not committed iniquity: but who is he that can deliver out of thy hands?
8 “Kuo ngaohi au ʻe ho nima mo fakafuofua takatakai au; ka ʻoku ke tāmateʻi au.
Thy hands have formed me and made me; afterwards thou didst change [thy mind], and smite me.
9 ʻOku ou kole kiate koe, ke ke manatuʻi, kuo ke ngaohi au ʻo hangē ko e ʻumea pea te ke toe ʻomi au ki he efu?
Remember that thou hast made me [as] clay, and thou dost turn me again to earth.
10 He naʻe ʻikai te ke lilingi au ʻo hangē ko e huʻahuhu, mo fakafefeka au ʻo hangē ko e siisi?
Hast thou not poured me out like milk, and curdled me like cheese?
11 Kuo ke fakakofuʻaki au ʻae kili mo e kakano, pea kuo ke ʻāʻi au ʻaki ʻae ngaahi hui mo e uoua.
And thou didst clothe me with skin and flesh, and frame me with bones and sinews.
12 Kuo ke tuku kiate au ʻae moʻui mo e ʻofa, pea kuo fakatolonga ʻeku moʻui ʻi hoʻo faʻa ʻaʻahi.
And thou didst bestow upon me life and mercy, and thy oversight has preserved my spirit.
13 Pea kuo ke fufū ʻae ngaahi meʻa ni ʻi ho loto: ʻoku ou ʻilo ʻoku ʻiate koe eni.
Having these things in thyself, I know that thou canst do all things; for nothing is impossible with thee.
14 Kapau te u fai hala, ʻoku ke fakaʻilongaʻi au, pea ʻe ʻikai te ke fakatonuhiaʻi au mei heʻeku angahia.
And if I should sin, thou watchest me; and thou hast not cleared me from iniquity.
15 Kapau ʻoku ou fai hala ko au pe ʻe malaʻia; pea kapau te u māʻoniʻoni, kae ʻikai te u faʻa hanga hake hoku ʻulu. ʻOku ou pito ʻi he puputuʻu; ko ia ke ke vakai ki heʻeku mamahi;
Or if I should be ungodly, woe is me: and if I should be righteous, I cannot lift myself up, for I am full of dishonour.
16 He ʻoku tupulekina ia. ʻOku ke tuli au ʻo hangē ko ha laione fekai: pea ʻoku ke toe fakahā ʻo fakamanavahē koe kiate au.
For I am hunted like a lion for slaughter; for again thou hast changed and art terribly destroying me;
17 ʻOku ke fakafoʻou hoʻo kau fakamoʻoni kiate au, pea ke fakalahi ho houhau kiate au; ʻoku tautaufetongi ʻae tau kiate au.
renewing against me my torture: and thou hast dealt with me in great anger, and thou hast brought trials upon me.
18 “Pea ko e hā kuo ke ʻomi ai au mei he manāva? Taumaiā ne u mate, ke ʻoua naʻa mamata ha mata kiate au!
Why then didst thou bring me out of the womb? and why did I not die, and no eye see me,
19 Ka ne pehē te u hangē naʻe ʻikai te u ʻi ai; pea ʻe fua au mei he manāva ki he faʻitoka.
and I become as if I had not been? for why was I not carried from the womb to the grave?
20 ʻIkai ʻoku siʻi pe hoku ngaahi ʻaho, pea tuku muʻa, ʻo tuku ai pe au, kau fakafiemālie siʻi,
Is not the time of my life short? suffer me to rest a little,
21 ʻI he teʻeki ai te u ʻalu pea ʻikai te u toe haʻu, ʻio, ki he fonua ʻoe fakapoʻuli mo e ʻata ʻoe mate;
before I go whence I shall not return, to a land of darkness and gloominess;
22 Ko e fonua ʻoe fakapoʻuli, ʻo hangē ko e poʻuli ʻoe ʻata ʻoe mate, ʻo taʻeʻiai ha fakatonutonu, pea ʻoku tatau hono nima mo e fakapoʻuli.’”
to a land of perpetual darkness, where there is no light, neither [can any one] see the life of mortals.
