< Selemaia 9 >
1 ʻAmusiaange ʻeau ko e vai ʻa hoku ʻulu, mo e matavai ʻoe loʻimata ʻa hoku mata, ke u tangi ʻi he ʻaho mo e pō, koeʻuhi ko kinautolu kuo mate ʻi he ʻofefine ʻo hoku kakai?
If only my head could produce water, and my eyes be a fountain of tears! For I wish to weep day and night for those among the daughter of my people who have been killed.
2 ʻAmusiaange ʻeau ke u maʻu ʻi he toafa, ʻae fale tali fononga; koeʻuhi ke u tukuange hoku kakai, pea ʻalu ʻiate kinautolu! He ko e kau angahala ʻakinautolu kotoa pē, ko e fakataha ʻoe kau tangata kākā.
If only someone would give me a place for travelers in the wilderness to stay, where I could go to abandon my people. If only I could leave them, since all of them are adulterers, a band of traitors!
3 “Pea ʻoku nau teke honau ʻelelo, ke loi ʻo hangē ko ʻenau kaufana; ka ʻoku ʻikai te nau toʻa, koeʻuhi ko e moʻoni ʻi māmani; he kuo nau ʻalu mei he kovi ki he kovi, pea ʻoku ʻikai te nau ʻilo au,” ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova.
Yahweh declares, “They tread on their bows of lies with their tongues, but it is not because of any faithfulness of theirs that they grow strong on the earth. They go from one wicked act to another. They do not know me.”
4 “Mou taki taha vakai ki hono kaungāʻapi, pea ʻoua naʻa mou tui ki ha tokoua: koeʻuhi ʻe fai fakakākā ʻae tokoua kotoa pē, pea ko e kaungāʻapi kotoa pē ʻe ʻalu fano mo e fakakovi.”
Each of you, be on guard against your neighbor and do not trust in any brother. For every brother is certainly a deceiver, and every neighbor walks in slander.
5 Pea te nau taki taha kākaaʻi hono kaungāʻapi, pea ʻikai te nau lea ki he moʻoni; kuo nau ako honau ʻelelo ke lea loi, pea ʻoku nau fakaongosiaʻi ʻakinautolu ʻi he fai kovi.
Each man mocks his neighbor and does not speak the truth. Their tongues teach deceitful things. They are exhausted from committing iniquity.
6 Pea ko ho nofoʻanga ʻoku ʻi he lotolotonga ʻoe kākā; koeʻuhi ko e kākā ʻoku ʻikai te nau fie ʻilo au, ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova.
Your dwelling is in the midst of deception; in their deceit they refuse to acknowledge me—this is Yahweh's declaration.”
7 Ko ia ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova ʻoe ngaahi kautau, “Vakai, Te u fakavela ke vai ʻakinautolu, pea ʻahiʻahiʻi ʻakinautolu; he ko e hā te u fai koeʻuhi ko e ʻofefine ʻo hoku kakai?
Yahweh of hosts says this, “See, I am about to refine them and test them, for what else can I do, because of what my people have done?
8 ʻOku tatau honau ʻelelo mo e ngahau kuo fanaʻi; ʻoku ne lea ʻaki ʻae kākā: ʻoku ne lea fakafiemālie ʻi hono ngutu ki hono kaungāʻapi, ka ko hono loto ʻoku toka malumu ki ai.”
Their tongues are sharpened arrows; they speak unfaithful things. With their mouths they proclaim peace with their neighbors, but with their hearts they lie in wait for them.
9 Pea ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova, “ʻIkai te u tautea koeʻuhi ko e ngaahi meʻa ni? Pea ʻikai ʻe totongi ʻe hoku laumālie ki he puleʻanga pehē?
Should I not punish them because of these things—this is Yahweh's declaration— and should I not avenge myself on a nation that is like this?
10 Te u tangi mo tangilāulau koeʻuhi ko e ngaahi moʻunga, pea te u tangi koeʻuhi ko e ngaahi nofoʻanga ʻi he toafa, he kuo nau vela ʻo ʻosi, ko ia ʻoku ʻikai ʻalu atu ai ha taha; pea ʻoku ʻikai fanongo ʻi ai ki he leʻo ʻoe fanga manu; kuo puna ʻo mole mei ai ʻae manu ʻoe ʻatā mo e manu ʻoe fonua; kuo nau ʻalu.
I will sing a song of mourning and wailing for the mountains, and a funeral song will be sung for the meadows. For they are burned so no one can pass through them. They will not hear the sound of any cattle. The birds of the skies and the animals have all fled away.
11 “Pea te u ngaohi ʻa Selūsalema, Ko e tuʻunga ʻotoʻota, pea ko e ʻana ʻoe fanga talākoni; pea te u fakalala ʻae ngaahi kolo ʻo Siuta, ke taʻehakakai ʻi ai.”
So I will turn Jerusalem into piles of ruins, a hideout for jackals. I will make Judah's cities ruined places without inhabitants.”
What man is wise enough to understand this? To whom has the mouth of Yahweh spoken, and he will declare it? Why has the land perished and been destroyed like the wilderness that no one can pass through?
13 Pea ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova, “Koeʻuhi kuo nau liʻaki ʻeku fono ʻaia naʻaku tuku ʻi honau ʻao, pea ʻoku ʻikai te nau talangofua ki hoku leʻo, pe ʻeveʻeva ai;
Yahweh says, “It is because they have abandoned my law that I set before them, because they do not listen to my voice or walk by it.
14 Ka kuo nau muimui ki he mahalo ʻa honau loto, pea ʻia Peali, ʻaia naʻe ako ʻe heʻenau ngaahi tamai kiate kinautolu.”
It is because they have walked by their stubborn hearts and have followed the Baals as their fathers taught them to do.
15 Ko ia ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova ʻoe ngaahi kautau, ko e ʻOtua ʻo ʻIsileli: “Vakai, Te u fafanga ʻaki ʻae kakai ni ʻae meʻa kona, pea te u foaki kiate kinautolu ʻae huhuʻa kona ʻoe ʻahu ke nau inu.
Therefore Yahweh of hosts, the God of Israel, says this, 'See, I am about to make this people eat wormwood and drink poisonous water.
Then I will scatter them among the nations that they have not known, neither they nor their ancestors. I will send out a sword after them until I have completely destroyed them.'”
17 ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova ʻoe ngaahi kautau, “Mou fakakaukau, pea ui ki he kau fefine tangi ke nau haʻu, pea mo e kau fefine poto ke nau omi:
Yahweh of hosts says this, “Think about this: Summon funeral singers; let them come. Send out for women skilled at lamenting; let them come.
18 Pea ke nau fakatoʻotoʻo, mo tangi koeʻuhi ko kitautolu, koeʻuhi ke tafe ʻae loʻimata ʻi hotau mata, pea ha ʻae vai ʻi hotau laumata.
Let them hurry and sing a mournful song over us, so our eyes may run with tears and our eyelids flow with water.
19 He ʻoku ongo mai mei Saione ʻae leʻo ʻoe tangi, ʻo pehē, ‘Kuo vetea ʻakitautolu, kuo tau puputuʻu lahi, koeʻuhi kuo tau tukuange ʻae fonua, pea kuo kapusi ʻakitautolu ʻi hotau ʻapi.’”
For the sound of wailing is heard in Zion, 'How we are devastated. We are greatly ashamed, for we have abandoned the land since they tore down our houses.'
20 Ka neongo ia, ke mou fanongo, ʻakimoutolu ʻae kau fefine ki he folofola ʻa Sihova, pea ongoʻi ʻe homou telinga ʻae folofola ʻa hono fofonga, pea ako ʻae tangi ki hoʻomou fānau fefine, pea ako ke taki taha tangi ʻa hono kaungāʻapi.
So you women, hear Yahweh's word; pay attention to the messages that come from his mouth. Then teach your daughters a mourning song, and each neighbor woman a funeral song.
21 He kuo hake ʻae mate ki he ngaahi kātupa; pea kuo hū ia ki he ngaahi fale fakaʻeiʻeiki, ke tutuʻu ʻae fānau mei tuʻa, pea mo e kau talavou ʻi he ngaahi hala.”
For death has come through our windows; it goes into our palaces. It destroys children from outside, and young men in the city squares.
22 ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova, “Ke ke lea,” ʻo pehē, “Naʻa mo e ngaahi ʻangaʻanga ʻoe kau tangata ʻe tō ia ki he ʻataʻatā ʻoe ngoue, ʻo hangē ko ha kinohaʻa, pea tatau mo e falukunga ʻoku toe, ʻoka hili ʻae ututaʻu, koeʻuhi ʻe ʻikai tānaki ʻakinautolu ʻe ha taha.”
Declare this, 'This is Yahweh's declaration—the corpses of men will fall like dung in the fields, and like grain stalks after the reapers, and there will be no one to gather them.'”
23 ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova, “ʻOua naʻa polepole ʻae tangata poto ʻi heʻene poto, pe ko e tangata mālohi ʻi heʻene mālohi, pea ʻoua naʻa polepole ʻae tangata maʻu meʻa ʻi heʻene koloa.
Yahweh says this, “Do not let the wise man take pride in his wisdom, or the warrior in his might. Do not let the wealthy man take pride in his riches.
24 Ka ko ia ʻoku polepole ke polepole ʻi he meʻa ni, koeʻuhi ʻoku ne poto mo ʻiloʻi au, Ko au ko Sihova ʻoku ou faʻa manavaʻofa, mo fakamaau, mo angatonu ʻi māmani:” he ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova, “ʻOku ou fiefia ʻi he ngaahi meʻa ni.”
For if a man takes pride in anything, let it be in this, that he has insight and knows me. For I am Yahweh, who acts with covenant loyalty, justice and righteousness on earth. For it is in these that I take pleasure —this is Yahweh's declaration.”
25 ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova, “Vakai, ʻoku haʻu ʻae ngaahi ʻaho te u tautea ai ʻae kamu fakataha mo e taʻekamu;
“See, days are coming—this is Yahweh's declaration—when I will punish all the circumcised who are such only in their body.
26 Ko ʻIsipite, mo Siuta, mo ʻItomi, pea mo e fānau ʻa ʻAmoni, mo Moape, mo kinautolu ʻoku ʻi he ngaahi potu mamaʻo, mo kinautolu ʻoku nofo ʻi he toafa: he ʻoku taʻekamu ʻae ngaahi kakai ni kotoa pē, pea ʻoku taʻekamu ʻae loto ʻo ʻIsileli kotoa pē.”
I will punish Egypt and Judah, Edom, the people of Ammon, Moab, and all the people who cut the hair on their heads very short. For all these nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel has an uncircumcised heart.”
