< Selemaia 5 >
1 “Mou felele aki ʻi he ngaahi hala ʻo Selūsalema, pea mamata, mo ʻilo, pea kumi ʻi hono ngaahi potu laulahi, kapau te mou faʻa ʻiloʻi ha tangata, pea kapau ʻoku ʻi ai ha taha ʻoku fakamaau totonu, ʻaia ʻoku kumi ki he moʻoni pea te u fakamolemole ia.
“Go up and down the streets of Jerusalem. Look now and take note; search her squares. If you can find a single person, anyone who acts justly, anyone who seeks the truth, then I will forgive the city.
2 Pea kapau ʻoku nau pehē, ‘ʻOku moʻui ʻa Sihova;’ ko e moʻoni ʻoku nau fuakava kākā pe.
Although they say, ‘As surely as the LORD lives,’ they are swearing falsely.”
3 ʻE Sihova, ʻikai ʻoku hanga ki he moʻoni ʻa ho fofonga? Kuo ke taaʻi ʻakinautolu, ka naʻe ʻikai te nau mamahi; kuo ke fakaʻauha ʻakinautolu, ka naʻe ʻikai te nau tokanga ki he tautea: kuo nau fakafefeka hake honau mata ʻi ha maka; ʻoku ʻikai te nau fie tafoki.
O LORD, do not Your eyes look for truth? You struck them, but they felt no pain. You finished them off, but they refused to accept discipline. They have made their faces harder than stone and refused to repent.
4 Ko ia naʻaku pehē, “Ko e moʻoni ʻoku nau masiva: ʻoku nau vale: he ʻoku ʻikai te nau ʻilo ʻae hala ʻo Sihova, pea mo e fakamaau ʻa honau ʻOtua.
Then I said, “They are only the poor; they have played the fool, for they do not know the way of the LORD, the justice of their God.
5 Te u ʻalu ki he kau tangata poto, pea te u lea kiate kinautolu; he kuo nau ʻilo ʻae hala ʻo Sihova, pea mo e fakamaau ʻa honau ʻOtua;” ka ko kinautolu ni kuo nau maumauʻi ʻaupito ʻae haʻamonga, pea motuhi ʻae ngaahi haʻi.
I will go to the powerful and speak to them. Surely they know the way of the LORD, the justice of their God.” But they too, with one accord, had broken the yoke and torn off the chains.
6 Ko ia ʻe tāmateʻi ʻakinautolu ʻe he laione mei he vao, pea ʻe maumauʻi ʻakinautolu ʻe he ulofi ʻoe efiafi, pea ʻe leʻo ki honau ngaahi kolo ʻe he lēpati: ko ia kotoa pē ʻe ʻalu atu ʻi ai ʻe haehae ke iiki; koeʻuhi ko ʻenau ngaahi angahala ʻoku lahi, pea ʻoku tupu ʻenau ngaahi fakaholomui.
Therefore a lion from the forest will strike them down, a wolf from the desert will ravage them. A leopard will lie in wait near their cities, and everyone who ventures out will be torn to pieces. For their rebellious acts are many, and their unfaithful deeds are numerous.
7 “ʻE fēfē ʻeku fakamolemole koe koeʻuhi ko e meʻa ni? Kuo liʻaki au ʻe hoʻo fānau, pea fuakava ʻiate kinautolu ʻoku ʻikai ko e ngaahi ʻotua: hili ʻeku fafanga ʻakinautolu ke mākona, naʻa nau fai angahala, pea nau fakataha ʻo tokolahi ʻi he ngaahi fale ʻoe kau faʻa feʻauaki.
“Why should I forgive you? Your children have forsaken Me and sworn by gods that are not gods. I satisfied their needs, yet they committed adultery and assembled at the houses of prostitutes.
8 Pea naʻa nau hangē ko e fanga hoosi tau kuo fafanga ʻi he pongipongi: pea naʻa nau taki taha holi ki he uaifi ʻo hono kaungāʻapi.”
They are well-fed, lusty stallions, each neighing after his neighbor’s wife.
9 ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova, “ʻIkai te u tautea koeʻuhi ko e ngaahi meʻa ni? Pea ʻikai ʻe totongi ʻe hoku laumālie ki he puleʻanga pehē?
Should I not punish them for these things?” declares the LORD. “Should I not avenge Myself on such a nation as this?
10 “Mou ʻalu hake ki hono ngaahi ʻā, pea fakaʻauha; kaeʻoua naʻa fakaʻosi ʻaupito; ʻave ʻa hono ngaahi vaʻa; he ʻoku ʻikai ʻo Sihova ʻakinautolu.”
Go up through her vineyards and ravage them, but do not finish them off. Strip off her branches, for they do not belong to the LORD.
11 He ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova, “Kuo fai kākā ʻaupito kiate au ʻe he fale ʻo ʻIsileli, pea mo e fale ʻo Siuta.”
For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have been utterly unfaithful to Me,”
12 Kuo nau fakafisingaʻi ʻa Sihova, ʻonau pehē, “ʻOku ʻikai ko ia ia; ʻe ʻikai hoko ha kovi kiate kitautolu pea ʻe ʻikai te tau mamata ki he heletā pe ha honge.
They have lied about the LORD and said: “He will not do anything; harm will not come to us; we will not see sword or famine.
13 Pea ʻe hoko ʻae kau palōfita ʻo hangē ko e matangi, pea ʻoku ʻikai ʻiate kinautolu ha lea: ʻe hoko ʻo pehē kiate kinautolu.”
The prophets are but wind, for the word is not in them. So let their own predictions befall them.”
14 Ko ia ʻoku pehē mai ʻe Sihova ko e ʻOtua ʻoe ngaahi kautau, “Koeʻuhi kuo mou lea ʻaki ʻae lea ni, vakai, te u ngaohi ʻeku ngaahi lea ke hangē ko e afi ʻi ho ngutu, pea ko e kakai ni ke hangē ko e ʻakau, pea te ne fakaʻauha ʻakinautolu.”
Therefore this is what the LORD God of Hosts says: “Because you have spoken this word, I will make My words a fire in your mouth and this people the wood it consumes.
15 Pea ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova, “Vakai, Te u ʻomi ha kakai mei he mamaʻo kiate kimoutolu, ʻE fale ʻo ʻIsileli, ko e kakai mālohi, ko e kakai muʻa pe, ko e kakai ʻe ʻikai te ke poto ʻi heʻenau lea, pe ʻiloʻi ʻaia ʻoku nau lea ʻaki.
Behold, I am bringing a distant nation against you, O house of Israel,” declares the LORD. “It is an established nation, an ancient nation, a nation whose language you do not know and whose speech you do not understand.
16 ʻOku tatau honau hōfangahau mo e fonualoto kuo matangaki, ko e kau tangata mālohi ʻakinautolu kotoa pē.
Their quivers are like open graves; they are all mighty men.
17 Pea te nau kai ʻo ʻosi ʻa homou taʻu, pea mo hoʻomou mā, ʻaia ʻoku totonu ke kai ʻe ho ngaahi foha mo ho ngaahi ʻofefine: te nau kai ke ʻosi hoʻo fanga sipi mo hoʻo fanga manu: te nau kai ke ʻosi hoʻo ngaahi vaine mo e ngaahi ʻakau ko e fiki: te nau fakamasiva ʻaki ʻae heletā ʻa ho ngaahi kolo mālohi, ʻaia naʻa ke falala ki ai.”
They will devour your harvest and food; they will consume your sons and daughters; they will eat up your flocks and herds; they will feed on your vines and fig trees. With the sword they will destroy the fortified cities in which you trust.”
18 ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova, “Ka ʻe ʻikai te u fakaʻosi ʻaupito ʻakimoutolu, ʻi he ngaahi ʻaho ko ia.
“Yet even in those days,” declares the LORD, “I will not make a full end of you.
19 Pea ʻe hoko ʻo pehē, ʻoka mou ka pehē, ‘Ko e hā ʻoku fai ai ʻe Sihova ko hotau ʻOtua ʻae ngaahi meʻa ni kotoa pē kiate kitautolu?’ Pea te ke toki lea pehē kiate kinautolu, ‘ʻO hangē kuo mou liʻaki au, pea tauhi ki he ngaahi ʻotua kehe ʻo homou fonua, ʻe pehē hoʻomou tauhi ki he kakai muli ʻi he fonua ʻoku ʻikai ʻomoutolu.’
And when the people ask, ‘For what offense has the LORD our God done all these things to us?’ You are to tell them, ‘Just as you have forsaken Me and served foreign gods in your land, so will you serve foreigners in a land that is not your own.’”
20 “Fakahā ʻae meʻa ni ʻi he fale ʻo Sēkope, pea fakahā ia ʻia Siuta, ʻo pehē,
Declare this in the house of Jacob and proclaim it in Judah:
21 ‘Fanongo, ki he meʻa ni, ʻae kakai vale, pea taʻeloto; ʻakimoutolu ʻoku mata, ka ʻoku ʻikai mamata; ʻakimoutolu ʻoku telinga ka ʻoku ʻikai ongoʻi.’
“Hear this, O foolish and senseless people, who have eyes but do not see, who have ears but do not hear.
22 ʻOku pehē mai ʻe Sihova, ‘ʻIkai te mou manavahē kiate au? ʻE ʻikai te mou tetetete ʻi hoku ʻao? Kuo u ʻai ʻae ʻoneʻone ko e fakangatangata ʻoe tahi ʻi he fono taʻengata, ʻaia ʻe ʻikai te ne faʻa laka ai; kapau ʻe hake hono ngaahi peau, ʻe ʻikai te nau mālohi; kapau te nau ʻuʻulu, ka ʻe ʻikai te nau faʻa laka ai.’
Do you not fear Me?” declares the LORD. “Do you not tremble before Me, the One who set the sand as the boundary for the sea, an enduring barrier it cannot cross? The waves surge, but they cannot prevail. They roar but cannot cross it.
23 “Ka ʻoku maʻu ʻe he kakai ni ʻae loto tafoki mo angatuʻu; kuo nau tafoki pea ʻalu.
But these people have stubborn and rebellious hearts. They have turned aside and gone away.
24 Pea naʻe ʻikai te nau pehē ʻi honau loto, ‘Ko eni, ke tau manavahē kia Sihova ko hotau ʻOtua, ʻaia ʻoku ne foaki kiate kitautolu ʻae ʻuha muʻa mo e ʻuha mui, ʻi hono ʻaho totonu: pea kuo ne tauhi maʻatautolu ʻae ngaahi uike tuʻutuʻuni ki he ututaʻu.’
They have not said in their hearts, ‘Let us fear the LORD our God, who gives the rains, both autumn and spring, in season, who keeps for us the appointed weeks of harvest.’
25 “Kuo fakaafe ʻae ngaahi meʻa ni meiate kimoutolu ʻe hoʻomou ngaahi angahala, pea kuo taʻofi ʻae ngaahi meʻa lelei meiate kimoutolu ʻe hoʻomou ngaahi hia.
Your iniquities have diverted these from you; your sins have deprived you of My bounty.
26 He ʻoku ai ʻae kau angakovi ʻi hoku kakai: ʻoku nau toitoi, ʻo hangē ko ia ʻoku tautau ʻae ngaahi hele; ʻoku nau ʻai ʻae tauhele, ke nau moʻua ai ʻae kau tangata.
For among My people are wicked men; they watch like fowlers lying in wait; they set a trap to catch men.
27 Pea ʻoku pito honau ngaahi fale ʻi he kākā, ʻo hangē ʻoku pito ʻae finaki ʻi he ngaahi manupuna: ko ia kuo nau hoko ai ke lahi, pea maʻu meʻa.
Like cages full of birds, so their houses are full of deceit. Therefore they have become powerful and rich.
28 Kuo nau hoko ke sino, pea ngingila; ʻio, kuo nau kovi lahi hake ʻi he kau angahala: ʻoku ʻikai te nau fakamaau ʻae meʻa, ko e meʻa ʻae tamai mate; pea ʻoku ʻikai te nau fakamaau ʻae meʻa totonu ʻae masiva, ka ʻoku nau monūʻia.”
They have grown fat and sleek, and have excelled in the deeds of the wicked. They have not taken up the cause of the fatherless, that they might prosper; nor have they defended the rights of the needy.
29 ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova; “ʻIkai te u tautea koeʻuhi ko e ngaahi meʻa ni?”
Should I not punish them for these things?” declares the LORD. “Should I not avenge Myself on such a nation as this?
30 Kuo fai ha meʻa fakaofo mo fakailifia ʻi he fonua.
A horrible and shocking thing has happened in the land.
31 ʻOku kikite kākā ʻae kau palōfita, pea ʻoku kau taha mo kinautolu ʻae kau taulaʻeiki; pea ʻoku loto ʻa hoku kakai ke pehē pe ia: pea ko e hā te mou fai ʻi hono ikuʻanga?
The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests rule by their own authority. My people love it so, but what will you do in the end?
