1 Ko e lea naʻe lea ʻaki ʻe Selemaia, ko e palōfita, kia Paluki ko e foha ʻo Nelia, ʻi he hili ʻene tohi ʻi ha tohi ʻae ngaahi lea ni mei he ngutu ʻo Selemaia, ʻi hono fā ʻoe taʻu ʻo Sihoiakimi ko e foha ʻo Siosaia, ko e tuʻi ʻo Siuta, ʻo pehē.
This is the word that Jeremiah the prophet spoke to Baruch son of Neriah when he wrote these words on a scroll at the dictation of Jeremiah in the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah:
2 “ʻE Paluki, ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova, ko e ʻOtua ʻo ʻIsileli, kiate koe;
“This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says to you, Baruch:
3 ‘Naʻa ke pehē, “Ko eni ʻoku ou malaʻia! He kuo fakahoko ʻe Sihova ʻae mamahi ki heʻeku mamahi; naʻaku pongia ʻi heʻeku toʻe, pea ʻoku ʻikai te u ʻilo ha fiemālie.”’
You have said, ‘Woe is me because the LORD has added sorrow to my pain! I am worn out with groaning and have found no rest.’”
4 “Pea te ke lea pehē kiate ia, ʻoku folofola pehē ʻa Sihova; ‘Vakai, ko ia kuo u langa te u fesiʻi hifo, pea ko ia kuo u tō te u taʻaki hake, ʻio, ʻae fonua ni kotoa pē.
Thus Jeremiah was to say to Baruch: “This is what the LORD says: Throughout the land I will demolish what I have built and uproot what I have planted.
5 Pea ʻoku ke kumi ʻae ngaahi meʻa lahi maʻau? ʻOua naʻa kumi ki ai:’ he ʻoku pehē mai ʻe Sihova, ‘Vakai, te u ʻomi ʻae kovi ki he kakano kotoa pē: ka te u foaki hoʻo moʻui kiate koe ʻo hangē ko e koloa kuo vetea, ʻi he potu kotoa pē te ke ʻalu ki ai.’”
But as for you, do you seek great things for yourself? Stop seeking! For I will bring disaster on every living creature, declares the LORD, but wherever you go, I will grant your life as a spoil of war.”
