< Selemaia 44 >
1 Ko e lea ʻaia naʻe hoko kia Selemaia ki he kau Siu kotoa pē ʻoku nofo ʻi he fonua ko ʻIsipite, pea ʻi Mikitoli, mo Tapanesi, mo Nofe, pea mo e ngaahi potu ʻo Patalosi, ʻo pehē,
The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the Jews who lived in the land of Egypt, who lived at Migdol, and at Tahpanhes, and at Memphis, and in the country of Pathros, saying,
2 “ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova ʻoe ngaahi kautau, ko e ʻOtua ʻo ʻIsileli; ‘Kuo mou mamata ki he kovi kotoa pē kuo u ʻomi ki Selūsalema, pea mo e ngaahi kolo ʻo Siuta; pea vakai, kuo nau lala ʻi he ʻaho ni, pea ʻoku ʻikai nofo ai ha tangata,
“The LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: ‘You have seen all the evil that I have brought on Jerusalem, and on all the cities of Judah. Behold, today they are a desolation, and no man dwells in them,
3 Koeʻuhi ko ʻenau angahala ʻaia naʻa nau fai ke fakatupu ai ʻeku tuputāmaki, ko e meʻa ʻi heʻenau tutu ʻae meʻa namu kakala, pea tauhi ki he ngaahi ʻotua kehe, ʻaia naʻe ʻikai te nau ʻilo, ʻekinautolu, pe ko kimoutolu, pe ko hoʻomou ngaahi tamai.
because of their wickedness which they have committed to provoke me to anger, in that they went to burn incense, to serve other gods that they didn’t know, neither they, nor you, nor your fathers.
4 Ko ia naʻaku fekau ai kiate kimoutolu, ʻeku kau tamaioʻeiki ko e kau palōfita, ʻo tuʻu hengihengi hake pe ʻo fekauʻi ʻakinautolu, ʻo pehē, “ʻOiauē, ʻoua naʻa fai ʻae meʻa fakalielia ni ʻaia ʻoku ou fehiʻa ki ai.”
However I sent to you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, “Oh, don’t do this abominable thing that I hate.”
5 Ka naʻe ʻikai te nau tokanga, pe fakafanongo honau telinga ke tafoki mei heʻenau angahala, ke ʻoua naʻa tutu ʻae meʻa namu kakala ki he ngaahi ʻotua kehe.
But they didn’t listen and didn’t incline their ear. They didn’t turn from their wickedness, to stop burning incense to other gods.
6 Ko ia naʻe lilingi atu ai hoku houhau mo ʻeku tuʻutāmaki, pea naʻe tutu ia ʻi he ngaahi kolo ʻo Siuta mo e ngaahi hala ʻo Selūsalema; pea kuo lala mo liʻaki ia, ʻo hangē ko e ʻaho ni.’
Therefore my wrath and my anger was poured out, and was kindled in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem; and they are wasted and desolate, as it is today.’
7 “Ko ia ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova, ko e ʻOtua ʻoe ngaahi kautau, ko e ʻOtua ʻo ʻIsileli; Ko e hā ʻoku mou fai ai ʻae kovi lahi ni ki homou laumālie, ke tuʻusi ai meiate kimoutolu ʻae tangata mo e fefine, ʻae tamasiʻi mo e kei huhu, ʻi Siuta, ke ʻoua naʻa toe ha taha ʻiate kimoutolu;
“Therefore now the LORD, the God of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: ‘Why do you commit great evil against your own souls, to cut off from yourselves man and woman, infant and nursing child out of the middle of Judah, to leave yourselves no one remaining,
8 Ko e meʻa ʻi hoʻomou fakahouhau ʻaki au ʻae ngaahi ngāue ʻa homou nima, ʻi he tutu ʻae meʻa namu kakala ki he ngaahi ʻotua kehe ʻi he fonua ko ʻIsipite, ʻaia naʻa mou ʻalu ke nofo ki ai, koeʻuhi ke mou kapusi ʻakimoutolu, pea te mou hoko ko e fakamalaʻia mo e ongoongo kovi ki he ngaahi puleʻanga kotoa pē ʻo māmani?
in that you provoke me to anger with the works of your hands, burning incense to other gods in the land of Egypt where you have gone to live, that you may be cut off, and that you may be a curse and a reproach among all the nations of the earth?
9 Kuo ngalo ʻiate kimoutolu ʻae ngaahi angahala ʻa hoʻomou ngaahi tamai, mo e angahala ʻae ngaahi tuʻi ʻo Siuta, mo e angahala ʻa honau ngaahi uaifi, mo hoʻomou angahala ʻamoutolu, mo e angahala ʻa homou uaifi, ʻaia kuo nau fai ʻi he fonua ʻo Siuta, pea ʻi he ngaahi hala ʻo Selūsalema?
Have you forgotten the wickedness of your fathers, the wickedness of the kings of Judah, the wickedness of their wives, your own wickedness, and the wickedness of your wives which they committed in the land of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?
10 Pea ʻoku ʻikai fakavaivaiʻi ʻakinautolu ʻo aʻu ki he ʻaho ni, pea ʻoku ʻikai te nau manavahē, pe ʻeveʻeva ʻi heʻeku fono, mo ʻeku ngaahi tuʻutuʻuni, ʻaia kuo u tuku ʻi honau ʻao, pea mo e ʻao ʻo ʻenau ngaahi tamai.’
They are not humbled even to this day, neither have they feared, nor walked in my law, nor in my statutes, that I set before you and before your fathers.’
11 “Ko ia ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova ʻoe ngaahi kautau, ko e ʻOtua ʻo ʻIsileli; Vakai, te u fakahangatonu atu hoku fofonga kiate kimoutolu ki he kovi, pea ke motuhi ʻa Siuta kotoa pē.
“Therefore the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: ‘Behold, I will set my face against you for evil, even to cut off all Judah.
12 Pea te u ʻave ʻae toenga ʻo Siuta, ko kinautolu kuo fakahangatonu atu honau mata ke ʻalu ki he fonua ko ʻIsipite ke ʻāunofo ai, pea te nau tō ʻi he fonua ko ʻIsipite pea ʻe ʻauha kotoa pē; ʻio, ʻe fakaʻauha ʻakinautolu ʻaki ʻae heletā pea mo e honge: te nau mate ʻi he heletā mo e honge, ʻo fai mei he iiki ʻo aʻu ki he lalahi: pea te nau hoko ko e fehiʻanekina, mo e fakaofo, mo e fakamalaʻia, pea mo e ongoongo kovi.
I will take the remnant of Judah that have set their faces to go into the land of Egypt to live there, and they will all be consumed. They will fall in the land of Egypt. They will be consumed by the sword and by the famine. They will die, from the least even to the greatest, by the sword and by the famine. They will be an object of horror, an astonishment, a curse, and a reproach.
13 He te u tautea ʻakinautolu ʻoku nofo ʻi he fonua ko ʻIsipite, ʻo hangē ko ʻeku tautea ʻa Selūsalema, ʻaki ʻae heletā, mo e honge, pea mo e mahaki fakaʻauha:
For I will punish those who dwell in the land of Egypt, as I have punished Jerusalem, by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence;
14 Koeʻuhi ke ʻoua naʻa hao pe toe ha taha ʻi he toenga ʻo Siuta, ʻaia kuo ʻalu ki he fonua ko ʻIsipite ke ʻāunofo ai, pe te ne toe foki ki he fonua ko Siuta, ʻaia ʻoku nau fie foki ke nofo ai: ka ko e tokosiʻi pe ʻe hola te nau foki mai.’”
so that none of the remnant of Judah, who have gone into the land of Egypt to live there, will escape or be left to return into the land of Judah, to which they have a desire to return to dwell there; for no one will return except those who will escape.’”
15 Pea ko e kau tangata kotoa pē kuo ʻilo kuo tutu ʻe honau ngaahi uaifi ʻae meʻa namu kakala ki he ngaahi ʻotua kehe, pea mo e kau fefine kotoa pē naʻe tutuʻu ai, ko e tokolahi, ʻio, ko e kakai kotoa pē ʻoku nofo ki he fonua ko ʻIsipite, ʻi Patalosi, naʻa nau tali kia Selemaia, ʻo pehē,
Then all the men who knew that their wives burned incense to other gods, and all the women who stood by, a great assembly, even all the people who lived in the land of Egypt, in Pathros, answered Jeremiah, saying,
16 “Ko e meʻa ʻi he lea kuo ke lea ʻaki kiate kimautolu ʻi he huafa ʻo Sihova, ʻe ʻikai te mau fanongo kiate koe.
“As for the word that you have spoken to us in the LORD’s name, we will not listen to you.
17 Ka te mau fai moʻoni ki he meʻa kotoa pē kuo ʻalu atu ʻi homau ngutu, ke tutu ʻae meʻa namu kakala ki he ʻeiki fefine ʻoe langi, pea lilingi ʻemau feilaulau inu kiate ia, ʻo hangē ko ia naʻa mau fai, ʻakimautolu mo ʻemau ngaahi tamai, mo homau ngaahi tuʻi, mo homau houʻeiki, ʻi he ngaahi kolo ʻo Siuta, pea ʻi he ngaahi hala ʻo Selūsalema: he naʻa mau maʻu ai ʻae meʻakai lahi, pea naʻa mau lelei, pea ʻikai mamata ki he kovi.
But we will certainly perform every word that has gone out of our mouth, to burn incense to the queen of the sky and to pour out drink offerings to her, as we have done, we and our fathers, our kings and our princes, in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem; for then we had plenty of food, and were well, and saw no evil.
18 Kae talu ʻemau tuku ʻemau tutu meʻa namu kakala ki he ʻeiki fefine ʻoe langi, pea mo ʻemau lilingi feilaulau inu kiate ia, kuo mau masiva ʻi he ngaahi meʻa kotoa pē, pea kuo fakaʻauha ʻakimautolu ʻaki ʻae heletā, pea mo e honge.
But since we stopped burning incense to the queen of the sky, and pouring out drink offerings to her, we have lacked all things, and have been consumed by the sword and by the famine.”
19 “Pea ʻi he ʻemau tutu ʻae meʻa namu kakala ki he ʻeiki fefine ʻoe langi, pea lilingi ʻae ngaahi feilaulau inu kiate ia, naʻa mau ngaohi ʻae mā maʻana, pea hū ki ai, mo lilingi ʻae ngaahi feilaulau inu kiate ia, taʻehamau kau tangata?”
The women said, “When we burned incense to the queen of the sky and poured out drink offerings to her, did we make her cakes to worship her, and pour out drink offerings to her, without our husbands?”
20 Pea naʻe toki pehē ʻe Selemaia ki he kakai kotoa pē, ki he kau tangata, mo e kau fefine, pea mo e kakai kotoa pē naʻe tali ʻaki ʻae lea ko ia, ʻo pehē,
Then Jeremiah said to all the people—to the men and to the women, even to all the people who had given him an answer, saying,
21 “Ko e meʻa namu kakala ʻaia kuo mou tutu ʻi he ngaahi kolo ʻo Siuta, pea ʻi he ngaahi hala ʻo Selūsalema, ʻakimoutolu, mo hoʻomou ngaahi tamai, mo homou ngaahi tuʻi, pea mo homou houʻeiki, pea mo e kakai ʻoe fonua, ʻikai naʻe manatu ʻa Sihova ki ai, pea ʻikai naʻe hoko ia ki hono finangalo?
“The incense that you burned in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, you and your fathers, your kings and your princes, and the people of the land, didn’t the LORD remember them, and didn’t it come into his mind?
22 Ko ia naʻe ʻikai toe faʻa kātaki ʻa Sihova, koeʻuhi ko e kovi ʻa hoʻomou ngaahi faianga, pea koeʻuhi ko e ngaahi meʻa fakalielia kuo mou fai; ko ia kuo lala ai homou fonua, pea ko e meʻa fakaofo, pea ko e malaʻia, pea taʻehanokakai, ʻo hangē ko ia ʻi he ʻaho ni.
Thus the LORD could no longer bear it, because of the evil of your doings and because of the abominations which you have committed. Therefore your land has become a desolation, an astonishment, and a curse, without inhabitant, as it is today.
23 Koeʻuhi kuo mou tutu ʻae meʻa namu kakala, pea koeʻuhi kuo mou angahala kia Sihova, pea ʻikai talangofua ki he leʻo ʻo Sihova, pe ʻeveʻeva ʻi heʻene ngaahi fono, pe ʻi heʻene ngaahi tuʻutuʻuni, pe ʻi heʻene ngaahi fakamoʻoni; ko ia kuo hoko ai ʻae kovi ni kiate kimoutolu, ʻo hangē ko e ʻaho ni.”
Because you have burned incense and because you have sinned against the LORD, and have not obeyed the LORD’s voice, nor walked in his law, nor in his statutes, nor in his testimonies; therefore this evil has happened to you, as it is today.”
24 Naʻe lea foki ʻa Selemaia, ki he kakai kotoa pē, mo e kau fefine kotoa pē, “Fanongo ki he folofola ʻa Sihova, ʻa Siuta kotoa pē ʻoku ʻi he fonua ko ʻIsipite:
Moreover Jeremiah said to all the people, including all the women, “Hear the LORD’s word, all Judah who are in the land of Egypt!
25 ʻOku folofola ʻa Sihova ʻoe ngaahi kautau, ko e ʻOtua ʻo ʻIsileli, ʻo pehē, ‘Kuo lea ʻaki homou ngutu ʻomoutolu mo homou ngaahi uaifi, pea fakamoʻoni ʻaki homou nima, ʻo pehē, “Te mau fakamoʻoni ʻemau ngaahi fuakava ʻaia kuo mau fuakava ʻaki ke tutu ʻae meʻa namu kakala ki he ʻeiki fefine ʻoe langi, pea te mau lilingi ʻemau ngaahi feilaulau inu kiate ia:” “‘Ko e moʻoni te mou fakahoko ʻa hoʻomou ngaahi fuakava, ko e moʻoni te mou fakamoʻoni ʻa hoʻomou ngaahi fuakava.
The LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says, ‘You and your wives have both spoken with your mouths, and with your hands have fulfilled it, saying, “We will surely perform our vows that we have vowed, to burn incense to the queen of the sky, and to pour out drink offerings to her.” “‘Establish then your vows, and perform your vows.’
26 “Ko ia mou fanongo ki he folofola ʻa Sihova, ʻa Siuta kotoa pē ʻoku nofo ʻi he fonua ko ʻIsipite; Vakai, kuo u fuakava ʻi hoku huafa lahi, ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova, koeʻuhi ke ʻoua naʻa toe takua hoku huafa ʻe he ngutu ʻo ha tangata ʻo Siuta ʻi he fonua kotoa pē ʻo ʻIsipite, ʻo pehē, “ʻOku moʻui ʻae ʻEiki ko Sihova.’
“Therefore hear the LORD’s word, all Judah who dwell in the land of Egypt: ‘Behold, I have sworn by my great name,’ says the LORD, ‘that my name will no more be named in the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, “As the Lord GOD lives.”
27 Vakai, te u leʻohi ʻaki ʻakinautolu ʻae kovi, kae ʻikai ha lelei: pea ʻe fakaʻauha ʻae kau tangata kotoa pē ʻo Siuta, ʻoku ʻi he fonua ko ʻIsipite ʻaki ʻae heletā, mo e honge, ke ʻoua ke ʻosi ʻakinautolu.
Behold, I watch over them for evil, and not for good; and all the men of Judah who are in the land of Egypt will be consumed by the sword and by the famine, until they are all gone.
28 Ka ko e tokosiʻi pe ʻe hao mei he heletā pea liliu mai mei he fonua ko ʻIsipite ki he fonua ko Siuta, pea ʻe ʻilo ʻe he toenga kakai kotoa pē ʻo Siuta kuo ʻalu ki he fonua ko ʻIsipite ke ʻāunofo ʻi ai, pe ko e lea ʻa hai ʻe tuʻumaʻu, ʻaʻaku, pe ʻanautolu.”
Those who escape the sword will return out of the land of Egypt into the land of Judah few in number. All the remnant of Judah, who have gone into the land of Egypt to live there, will know whose word will stand, mine or theirs.
29 “Pea ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova, ‘Ko e fakaʻilonga eni kiate kimoutolu, te u tautea ʻakimoutolu ʻi he potu ni, koeʻuhi ke mou ʻilo ʻoku moʻoni ʻe tuʻumaʻu ʻeku ngaahi lea kiate kimoutolu ke mou kovi ai:’
“‘This will be the sign to you,’ says the LORD, ‘that I will punish you in this place, that you may know that my words will surely stand against you for evil.’
30 ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova; ‘Vakai, Te u tukuange ʻa Felo-Hofala ko e tuʻi ʻo ʻIsipite ki he nima ʻo hono ngaahi fili, pea ki honau nima ʻoku kumi ki heʻene moʻui, ʻo hangē ko ʻeku tuku ʻa Setikia ko e tuʻi ʻo Siuta ki he nima ʻo Nepukanesa ko e tuʻi ʻo Papilone, ko hono fili, ʻaia naʻe kumi ki heʻene moʻui.”’
The LORD says, ‘Behold, I will give Pharaoh Hophra king of Egypt into the hand of his enemies and into the hand of those who seek his life, just as I gave Zedekiah king of Judah into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, who was his enemy and sought his life.’”
