< Selemaia 4 >
1 ʻOku pehē mai ʻe Sihova, “Kapau te ke tafoki ʻE ʻIsileli, tafoki kiate au; pea kapau te ke tukuange ʻa hoʻo ngaahi meʻa fakalielia ʻi hoku ʻao, ʻe ʻikai ʻave koe.
If thou wilt return to me, O Israel, saith Jehovah, Thou shalt return [[to thy land]]; If thou wilt put away thy abominations from my sight, Thou shalt no more be a wanderer [[in a foreign land]].
2 Pea te ke fuakava, ‘ʻOku moʻui ʻa Sihova’ ʻi he moʻoni, mo e fakamaau, pea ʻi he angatonu; pea ʻoku meiate ia ʻae fakamonūʻia ʻae ngaahi puleʻanga pea te nau vikiviki ʻiate ia.”
If thou wilt swear, As Jehovah liveth! In truth, in justice, and in righteousness, Then shall the nations bless themselves by thee, And in thee shall they glory.
3 He ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova ki he kau tangata ʻo Siuta, mo Selūsalema, “Mou fakamolū ʻae kelekele foʻou, pea ʻoua naʻa tūtuuʻi ʻi he ngaahi ʻakau talatala.
Thus saith Jehovah to the men of Judah and Jerusalem: Break up your fallow ground, And sow not among thorns!
4 ʻAe kau tangata ʻo Siuta mo e kakai ʻo Selūsalema, mou kamu homou loto kia Sihova, pea toʻo ʻae ʻufiʻufi ʻo homou loto, telia naʻa ʻalu atu ʻeku houhau ʻo hangē ko e afi, pea ʻe vela ia ʻo ʻikai faʻa tāmateʻi, koeʻuhi ko e kovi ʻo hoʻomou ngaahi faianga.”
Circumcise yourselves to Jehovah; Yea, circumcise your hearts, Ye men of Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem! Lest, for the evil of your doings, My fury break forth like fire, And burn so that none can quench it.
5 Mou fakahā ʻi Siuta, pea fakaʻilo ʻi Selūsalema; ʻo pehē, ‘Mou ifi ʻae meʻalea ʻi he fonua:’ fakahā, ʻi he potu kotoa pē, ʻo pehē, ‘Tau fakataha ʻakitautolu, pea ʻalu ki he ngaahi kolo kuo langa.’
Declare ye in Judah, And proclaim in Jerusalem, and say, Blow ye the trumpet in the land; Cry ye aloud, and say, Gather yourselves together, And let us go into the fortified cities;
6 Fokotuʻu ʻae fuka ke hanga ki Saione: mou ʻalu, ʻoua ʻe tatali: he te u ʻomi ʻae kovi mei he tokelau, ʻio, ko e fakaʻauha lahi.
Set up a standard toward Zion, Flee, make no stand! For I am about to bring evil from the north, Even great destruction.
7 Kuo haʻu ʻae laione mei he fihi ʻoe vao, pea ʻoku haʻu ʻi hono hala ʻaia ʻe fakaʻauha ʻae ngaahi puleʻanga; kuo ʻalu atu ia mei hono potu ke fakaʻauha ʻae fonua: pea ʻe lala ʻae ngaahi kolo, ʻo ʻikai ha kakai.
The lion goeth up from his thicket, The destroyer of nations is on his way; He goeth forth from his place to make thy land desolate; Thy cities shall be laid waste so as to be without an inhabitant.
8 Koeʻuhi ko e meʻa ni, nonoʻo ʻaki ʻakimoutolu ʻae vala tauangaʻa, pea mamahi mo tangi: he ʻoku teʻeki ai foki meiate kitautolu ʻae houhau kakaha ʻo Sihova.
For this cause gird on sackcloth, Lament and howl! For the fierce anger of Jehovah is not turned away from us.
9 ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova, “ʻE hoko ʻo pehē ʻi he ngaahi ʻaho ko ia, ʻe vaivai ʻae loto ʻoe tuʻi, pea mo e loto ʻoe houʻeiki; pea ʻe ofo ʻae kau taulaʻeiki, pea ʻe fakatumutumu ʻae kau palōfita.”
In that day, saith Jehovah, Shall the heart of the king perish, And the heart of the princes; The priests shall be amazed, And the prophets confounded.
10 Pea naʻaku toki pehē ai, “ʻOiauē, ʻE ʻEiki Sihova! Ko e moʻoni kuo ke tukuange ʻae kakai ni mo Selūsalema ki he kākā, ʻo pehē, ‘Te mou maʻu ʻae fiemālie;’ kae ʻosi kuo hoko ʻae heletā ki he laumālie.”
Then said I, Alas, O Lord Jehovah! Surely thou hast greatly deceived this people and Jerusalem; Thou hast said, “Ye shall have peace”; And the sword reacheth to the very life!
11 Pea ʻe lea ki he kakai ni mo Selūsalema ʻi he ngaahi ʻaho ko ia; ʻo pehē, “ʻOku haʻu ʻae matangi vela mei he ngaahi potu māʻolunga ʻi he toafa ki he ʻofefine ʻo hoku kakai, ka ʻoku ʻikai ke tatafi pe fakamaʻa.
At that time shall it be said to this people and to Jerusalem: A dry wind cometh from the hills of the desert, It cometh toward my people, Not to fan, nor to cleanse.
12 ʻE haʻu ʻae matangi lahi mei he ngaahi potu ko ia kiate au; pea te u fakamaau ni ʻakinautolu foki.
Yea, a wind stronger than this shall come; Now will I myself give sentence against them.
13 Vakai, te ne haʻu ʻo hangē ko e ngaahi ʻao, pea ko ʻene ngaahi saliote ʻo hangē ko e ʻahiohio: ʻoku veʻe vave hake ʻene fanga hoosi ʻi he puna ʻae ʻikale. ʻOku tau malaʻia! He kuo fakaʻauha ʻakitautolu.
Behold, he cometh up like clouds, And his chariots are like a whirlwind; His horses are swifter than eagles. Woe to us! for we are laid waste!
14 ʻE Selūsalema, ke ke fakamaʻa ho loto mei he angahala, koeʻuhi ke ke moʻui. ʻE fēfē hono fuoloa ʻae nofo ʻa hoʻo ngaahi mahalo kovi ʻiate koe?
Wash thy heart from wickedness, O Jerusalem, That thou mayst be saved! How long shall thy evil devices lodge within thee?
15 He ʻoku ongoʻi ʻae leʻo mei Tani, pea ʻoku fakahā ʻae meʻa fakamamahi mei he moʻunga ʻo ʻIfalemi.
For a voice proclaimeth tidings from Dan, And announceth calamity from mount Ephraim.
16 “Vakai, mou tala ki he ngaahi kakai; fakahā ki Selūsalema, ‘Kuo haʻu ʻae kau leʻo mei he potu mamaʻo, pea te nau kalanga ki he ngaahi kolo ʻo Siuta.’”
Proclaim ye to the nations, Behold, publish ye to Jerusalem, “Watchmen are coming from a far country, And lift their voice against the cities of Judah.”
17 ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova, “ʻOku nau takatakai ia ʻo hangē ko e kau tauhi ngoue koeʻuhi kuo ne angatuʻu kiate au.
Like keepers of fields are they round about her Because she hath rebelled against me, saith Jehovah.
18 Kuo hoko ʻae ngaahi meʻa ni kiate koe ko e meʻa ʻi hoʻo anga mo hoʻo ngaahi faianga; ko eni hoʻo mamahi ʻoku kakaha ia, koeʻuhi ʻoku ʻasi ia ki ho loto.”
Thy way and thy doings have brought this upon thee; This is the fruit of thy wickedness; It is bitter; it reacheth to thy heart.
19 ʻA hoku fatu, ʻa hoku fatu! ʻOku ou mamahi ʻo aʻu ki hoku loto: ʻoku ueʻi hoku loto ʻiate au; ʻoku ʻikai te u faʻa fakalongo pe, koeʻuhi kuo u fanongo ki he meʻalea, kuo fanongo ʻa hoku laumālie ki he teu tau.
O my breast, my breast! I am pained in the walls of my heart; My heart trembleth within me; I cannot be silent; For thou hearest, O my soul, the sound of the trumpet, The alarm of war!
20 Kuo hoko ʻae fakaʻauha ki he fakaʻauha, he kuo lala ʻae fonua kotoa pē; kuo maumauʻi fakafokifā ʻa hoku fale fehikitaki; pea mo hoku ngaahi puipui.
There is a cry of destruction upon destruction; Yea, the whole land is laid waste; Suddenly are my tents destroyed, And my canopies in an instant.
21 ʻE fēfē hono fuoloa ʻo ʻeku mamata ki he fuka, pea fanongo ki he leʻo ʻoe meʻalea?
How long shall I see the standard, Hear the sound of the trumpet?
22 “He ʻoku vale ʻa hoku kakai, ʻoku teʻeki ai te nau ʻilo au: ko e fānau faha ʻakinautolu ʻoku ʻikai hanau poto; ʻoku nau poto ki he fai kovi, ka ʻoku ʻikai te nau maʻu ʻae ʻiloʻi ki he fai lelei.”
My people is foolish, They have no regard to me; Stupid children are they, And have no understanding; They are wise to do evil, But for doing good they have no knowledge.
23 Pea naʻaku mamata ki he fonua, pea vakai, kuo maveuveu mo ngeʻesi pe ia; pea ki he ngaahi langi foki, pea naʻe ʻikai ha maama.
I look to the earth, and lo! emptiness and desolation; To the heavens, and there is no light.
24 Ne u mamata ki he ngaahi moʻunga, pea vakai, kuo nau tetetete, pea naʻe ueʻi ʻae ngaahi tafungofunga kotoa pē, ʻo hangē ko e meʻa maʻamaʻa.
I look to the mountains, and lo! they tremble, And all the hills shake.
25 Naʻaku mamata, pea vakai, naʻe ʻikai ha tangata, pea kuo mole kotoa pē ʻae fanga manupuna ʻoe langi.
I look, and lo! there is not a man, And all the birds of heaven are fled.
26 Ne u mamata, pea vakai, kuo toafa ʻae potu fua lelei, pea kuo maumauʻi hifo ʻae ngaahi kolo kotoa pē ʻi he ʻao ʻo Sihova, ʻi hono houhau kakaha.
I look, and lo! Carmel is a desert, And all its cities are thrown down, Before the presence of Jehovah, Before the heat of his anger.
27 He kuo pehē ʻe Sihova, “ʻE lala ʻae fonua kotoa pē; ka ʻe ʻikai te u fakaʻosi ʻaupito.
For thus saith Jehovah: The whole land shall be desolate, Yet will I not make a full end.
28 ʻE mamahi ʻa māmani koeʻuhi ko e meʻa ni, pea ʻe ʻuliʻuli ai ʻae ngaahi langi ʻi ʻolunga: koeʻuhi kuo u lea ʻaki ia, pea ʻe ʻikai te u fakatomala; kuo u tuʻutuʻuni ia, pea ʻe ʻikai te u tafoki mei ai.”
Therefore shall the earth mourn, And the heavens above be black, Because I have spoken, and I will not repent; I have purposed, and I will not recede from it.
29 ʻE hola ʻae kolo kotoa pē koeʻuhi ko e patū ʻae kau tangata heka hoosi, mo e kau tangata fakakaufana; te nau ʻalu ki he vao fihi pea kaka ki he ngaahi maka: pea ʻe liʻaki ʻae kolo kotoa pē, pea ʻe ʻikai nofo ha tangata ʻi ai.
At the noise of the horsemen and bowmen every city fleeth; They go into thickets, And climb up upon the rocks; All the cities are forsaken, And not a man dwelleth in them.
30 Pea ʻoka maumauʻi koe, ko e hā te ke fai? Kapau te ke fakakofuʻaki koe ʻae kulokula, pea kapau te ke teuteu ʻaki koe ʻae ngaahi meʻa teunga, pea kapau te ke loa ho mata ʻaki ʻae vali, ʻoku taʻeʻaonga ho fakahoihoifua koe; ʻe fehiʻa kiate koe ʻakinautolu naʻe ʻofa, pea te nau kumi hoʻo moʻui.
And thou, destined to perish, what wilt thou do? Though thou clothe thyself in scarlet, And deck thyself with ornaments of gold, And rend thine eyes with paint, In vain dost thou adorn thyself; Thy lovers despise thee; They seek thy life.
31 He kuo u fanongo ki he leʻo ʻo hangē ko e fefine ʻoku langā, pea mo e mamahi ʻo hangē ko ia kuo ne fāʻeleʻi ʻene ʻuluaki tama, ko e leʻo ʻoe ʻofefine ʻo Saione, ʻaia ʻoku toʻe pea mafao hono nima, ʻo pehē, “ʻOiauē au! He ʻoku vaivai hoku laumālie koeʻuhi ko e kau fakapō.”
I hear a cry, as of a woman in travail, Anguish, as of her that bringeth forth her first child. The voice of the daughter of Zion. She sobbeth, she spreadeth out her hands, “Ah! woe is me! I am dying by murderers!”
