Selemaia 28

1 Pea naʻe hoko ʻo pehē ʻi he taʻu pe ko ia, ʻi he kamataʻanga ʻoe pule ʻa Setikia ko e tuʻi ʻo Siuta, ʻi hono fā ʻoe taʻu, pea ʻi hono nima māhina, ko Hanania ko e foha ʻo ʻAsuli ko e palōfita, ʻaia naʻe ʻi Kipione, naʻe lea kiate au ʻi he fale ʻo Sihova, ʻi he ʻao ʻoe kau taulaʻeiki, pea mo e kakai kotoa pē, ʻo pehē,

When Zedekiah had been the King of Judah for more than three years, late in the (summer/hot season), Azzur’s son Hananiah, a prophet from Gibeon [city], spoke to me in the [courtyard of the] temple, while [all] the priests and other people were listening. He said,

2 Naʻe pehē mai ʻe Sihova ʻoe ngaahi kautau, ko e ʻOtua ʻo ʻIsileli, “Kuo u maumauʻi ʻae haʻamonga ʻae tuʻi ʻo Papilone.

“This is what the Commander of the armies of angels, the God whom [we] Israelis [worship], says: ‘I will cause the king of Babylon to stop ruling/controlling [MET] [all of you].

3 ‌ʻI he teʻeki ai ʻosi ʻae taʻu ʻe ua te u toe ʻomi ki he potu ni ʻae ngaahi ipu kotoa pē ʻoe fale ʻo Sihova, ʻaia naʻe fetuku ʻe Nepukanesa ko e tuʻi ʻo Papilone mei he potu ni, pea ʻave ia ki Papilone:

(Within two years/Before two years have ended), I will cause to be brought bring back to this temple all the valuable things that King Nebuchadnezzar’s [soldiers] took from this temple and took to Babylon.

4 ‌ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova, Pea te u toe ʻomi ki he potu ni ʻa Sekonia, ko e foha ʻo Sihoiakimi ko e tuʻi ʻo Siuta, mo e kau pōpula kotoa pē ʻo Siuta, ʻaia naʻe ʻalu ki Papilone; he te u maumauʻi ʻae haʻamonga ʻae tuʻi ʻo Papilone.”

And I will also cause King Jehoiachin to be brought back here, and all the [other] people who were captured and taken to Babylon. The king of Babylon has [forced you to do what he wants, like someone] puts a yoke [on the neck of an ox to force it to do what he] wants [MET] it to do. But I will cause that to end. [That will happen because] I, Yahweh, have said it.’”

5 Pea naʻe toki pehē ʻe he palōfita ko Selemaia, ki he palōfita ko Hanania, ʻi he ʻao ʻoe kau taulaʻeiki, pea ʻi he ʻao ʻoe kakai kotoa pē naʻe tutuʻu ʻi he fale ʻo Sihova,

I replied to Hananiah in front of [all] the priests and other people who were standing outside the temple.

6 ‌ʻIo, naʻe pehē ʻe he palōfita ko Selemaia, “ʻEmeni: ke fai pehē ʻe Sihova: ke fakamoʻoni ʻe Sihova ki he ngaahi lea kuo ke kikite ʻaki, ke toe ʻomi ʻae ngaahi ipu ki he fale ʻo Sihova, pea mo e kau pōpula kotoa pē, mei Papilone ki he potu ni.

I said, “(Amen/May that happen)! I desire/hope that what you have predicted will happen. I hope/desire that Yahweh will do everything that you have said! I hope/desire that he will cause [men from Babylon] to bring back from Babylon [all] the valuable things that were in this temple, and all the people who were taken [to Babylon].

7 Ka te ke fanongo eni ki he lea ni te u lea ʻaki ʻi ho telinga, pea ki he telinga ʻoe kakai kotoa pē;

But now listen to what I say to you while all these people are listening.

8 Ko e kau palōfita naʻe muʻomuʻa ʻiate au pea naʻe muʻa ʻiate koe ʻi muʻa, naʻa nau kikite foki ki he ngaahi kakai lahi, pea ki he ngaahi puleʻanga lahi, ki he tau, mo e kovi, pea mo e mahaki fakaʻauha.

Many years ago, those who were prophets before you and I [became prophets] spoke messages about many nations and great kingdoms. They predicted/prophesied that wars and disasters and plagues/diseases would occur in those nations.

9 Ko e palōfita ʻoku kikite ki he melino, ʻoka fakamoʻoni ʻo hoko ʻae lea ʻae palōfita, ʻe toki ʻilo ai ʻae palōfita, ʻaia naʻe fekau moʻoni ʻe Sihova.”

[So now you or] any other prophet who predicts that things will go well [for us must show that your message is correct. Only] if what you predict actually happens will we know that you were truly appointed by Yahweh.”

10 Pea naʻe toki toʻo ʻe Hanania ko e palōfita ʻae haʻamonga mei he kia ʻoe palōfita ko Selemaia, pea maumauʻi ia.

Then Hananiah took the yoke off my neck and broke it.

11 Pea lea ʻa Hanania ʻi he ʻao ʻoe kakai kotoa pē, ʻo pehē, “ʻOku pehē mai ʻe Sihova; ʻE pehē ʻeku maumauʻi ʻae haʻamonga ʻo Nepukanesa ko e tuʻi ʻo Papilone mei he kia ʻoe kakai kotoa pē ʻi he teʻeki ai ʻosi kotoa ʻae taʻu ʻe ua.” Pea naʻe ʻalu atu ʻae palōfita ko Selemaia.

Then he said this to all the people who were there: “This is what Yahweh says: ‘Just like Hananiah has broken this yoke, within two years I will cause King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon to [stop forcing the people to do what he wants, which has been like] a heavy yoke on all their necks [MET].’” After Hananiah said that, I left the temple area.

12 Pea hili hono maumauʻi ʻe he palōfita ko Hanania ʻae haʻamonga mei he kia ʻoe palōfita ko Selemaia, naʻe toki hoko mai ʻae folofola ʻa Sihova ki he palōfita ko Selemaia, ʻo pehē,

[Soon] after Hananiah had broken the yoke that was around my neck, Yahweh gave this message to me:

13 “ʻAlu ʻo tala kia Hanania, ʻo pehē, ʻOku pehē mai ʻa Sihova; Kuo ke maumauʻi ʻae ngaahi haʻamonga ʻakau; ka te ke ngaohi maʻanautolu ʻae ngaahi haʻamonga ukamea.

“Go and say this to Hananiah: ‘Yahweh says that you have broken a wooden yoke, but that he will replace it with an iron yoke.

14 He ʻoku pehē mai ʻa Sihova ʻoe ngaahi kautau, ko e ʻOtua ʻo ʻIsileli; kuo u ʻai ʻae haʻamonga ukamea ki he kia ʻoe kakai kotoa pē, koeʻuhi ke nau tauhi kia Nepukanesa ko e tuʻi ʻo Papilone; pea te nau tauhi kiate ia: pea kuo u foaki foki kiate ia ʻae ngaahi manu ʻoe ngoue.”

I have forced the people of all these nations to [become slaves of] King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon. That is [like] [MET] an iron yoke around their necks. I have put everything, even wild animals, under his control.’”

15 Pea naʻe toki pehē ʻe he palōfita ko Selemaia ki he palōfita ko Hanania, “Fanongo mai, Hanania; naʻe ʻikai fekau koe ʻe Sihova; ka kuo ke ngaohi ʻae kakai ni ke nau falala ki he loi.

Then I [went to] Hananiah and said to him, “Hananiah, listen [to this]: Yahweh has not appointed you; instead, [you have told] lies to the people, and they have believed your lies.

16 Ko ia ʻoku pehē mai ʻa Sihova; Vakai, te u lī koe mei he funga ʻoe fonua: te ke mate ʻi he taʻu ni, koeʻuhi kuo ke ako ʻaki ʻae angatuʻu kia Sihova.”

Therefore, this is what Yahweh says: ‘You will [soon] die. Before the end of this year, you will die, because you have rebelled against Yahweh.’”

17 Pea naʻe mate ʻa Hanania ko e palōfita ʻi he taʻu ko ia ʻi hono fitu māhina.

Hananiah died two months later.
