< Selemaia 19 >

1 ‌ʻOku pehē mai ʻa Sihova, ʻAlu, ʻo toʻo ʻae hina ʻumea ʻoe tufunga ngaohi ipu, pea ʻave ʻae kau mātuʻa niʻihi ʻoe kakai, pea mo e kau mātuʻa ʻoe kau taulaʻeiki;
This is what the Lord says: Go and buy a clay jar from a potter. Take some of the elders of the people and leaders of the priests with you,
2 Pea ke ʻalu ki he teleʻa ʻoe foha ʻo Henomi, ʻaia ʻoku ʻi he matapā hahake, pea fakahā ʻi ai ʻae ngaahi lea ʻaia te u tala kiate koe,
and go through the Broken Pottery Gate to the valley of Ben-hinnom. Announce this message I'm giving you.
3 Pea ke pehē, “ʻE ngaahi tuʻi ʻo Siuta, mo e kakai ʻo Selūsalema, mou fanongo ki he folofola ʻa Sihova; ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova ʻoe ngaahi kautau, ko e ʻOtua ʻo ʻIsileli; Vakai, te u ʻomi ʻae kovi ki he potu ni, pea ko ia ʻe fanongo ki ai, ʻe vavana ai hono telinga.
Tell them, Listen to what the Lord says, kings of Judah and people living in Jerusalem. This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: I am going to bring down on this place such a disaster that it will make the ears of anyone who hears about it ring.
4 Koeʻuhi kuo nau liʻaki au, pea kuo fakakehe ʻae potu ni, kuo tutu ʻi ai ʻae meʻa namu kakala ki he ngaahi ʻotua kehe, ʻaia naʻe ʻikai te nau ʻilo, pe ko ʻenau ngaahi tamai, pe ko e ngaahi tuʻi ʻo Siuta, pea kuo fakapito ʻaki ʻae potu ni ʻae toto ʻoe taʻehalaia.
My people have deserted me and have made this a place where foreign gods are worshiped. They have burned incense in it to other gods that they and their forefathers and the kings of Judah never knew anything about. They have filled this place with the blood of innocent people.
They have built pagan shrines to Baal where they burn their children in the fire as offerings to Baal. This is something I never commanded or even mentioned. I never even thought of such a thing!
6 Ko ia, ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova, ʻOku haʻu ʻae ngaahi ʻaho, ʻe ʻikai toe ui ʻae potu ni ko Tofeti, pe ko e teleʻa ʻoe foha ʻo Henomi, ka Ko e teleʻa ʻoe tāmateʻi.
So watch out! The time is coming, declares the Lord, when instead of Topheth and the Valley of Hinnom this place will be called the Valley of Killing.
7 Pea te u fakataʻeʻaonga ʻae fakakaukau ʻa Siuta mo Selūsalema ʻi he potu ni: pea te u pule ke nau tō ʻi he heletā ʻi he ʻao ʻo honau ngaahi fili, pea mo e nima ʻonautolu ʻoku kumi ʻenau moʻui: pea te u foaki honau ʻangaʻanga ke kai ʻe he fanga manu ʻoe ʻatā, pea mo e fanga manu ʻoe fonua.
Right here in this place I'm going to spoil the plans of Judah and Jerusalem. I will let their enemies who want to kill them come and do exactly that. Their dead bodies will be food for birds of prey and wild animals.
8 Pea te u ngaohi ʻae kolo ni ke lala, pea ko e manukiʻanga; pea ʻe ofo mo fakaʻiseʻisa ki ai ʻakinautolu kotoa pē ʻoku ʻalu ki ai, koeʻuhi ko hono ngaahi tautea kotoa pē.
I'm going to make this city desolate, a place that is mocked. Everyone who passes by will be horrified, shocked by all its damage.
9 Pea te u pule ke nau kai ʻae kakano ʻo honau ngaahi foha, pea mo e kakano ʻo honau ngaahi ʻofefine, pea te nau taki taha kai ʻae kakano ʻo hono kāinga ʻi he tau mo e mamahi, ʻaia ʻe fakamamahi ʻaki ʻakinautolu ʻe honau ngaahi fili, pea mo kinautolu ʻoku kumi ʻenau moʻui.”
The siege brought by their enemies who want to kill them will be so terrible that I will make them eat each other, even their own sons and daughters.
10 Pea te ke toki foa ʻae hina ʻi he ʻao ʻoe kau tangata ʻoku nau ʻalu mo koe,
Then smash the jar in front of the people with you.
11 Pea te ke lea kiate kinautolu, “ʻOku pehē mai ʻa Sihova ʻoe ngaahi kautau; ʻE pehē ʻeku maumauʻi ʻae kakai ni, pea mo e kolo ni, ʻo hangē ʻoku foaʻi ʻe ha taha ʻae ipu ʻae tufunga ngaohi ipu, ʻaia ʻe ʻikai toe faʻa ngaohi ke haohaoa: pea ʻe tanu [ʻakinautolu ]ʻi Tofeti, pea ʻe ʻikai ha potu ʻe hao ai honau tanu.
Tell them: this is what the Lord Almighty says: I'm going to smash this nation and this city, just like a clay jar is smashed so it can't ever be repaired. People will bury their dead in Topheth until it's full.
12 ‌ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova, Te u fai pehē ki he potu ni, pea mo hono kakai, pea te u ngaohi ʻae kolo ni ke hangē ko Tofeti:
This is what I'm going to do to this place and to the people who live here, declares the Lord. I will turn this city into Topheth.
13 Pea ʻe fakaʻuliʻi ʻae ngaahi fale ʻo Selūsalema, pea mo e ngaahi fale ʻoe ngaahi tuʻi ʻo Siuta, ʻo hangē ko e potu ʻo Tofeti, koeʻuhi ko e ngaahi fale kotoa pē ʻaia kuo tutu ai ʻae meʻa namu kakala ʻi honau tuʻa fale ki he ngaahi meʻa ʻoe langi, pea kuo lilingi ai ʻae feilaulau inu ki he ngaahi ʻotua kehe.”
All the houses of Jerusalem and the palaces of the kings of Judah will become unclean just like Topheth, because they are all the houses whose rooftops they used to burn incense to the sun, moon, and stars, and poured out drink offerings to other gods.
14 Pea naʻe toki haʻu ʻa Selemaia mei Tofeti, ʻaia naʻe fekau ia ki ai ʻe Sihova ke kikite; pea ne tuʻu ʻi he lotoʻā ʻoe fale ʻo Sihova ʻo ne lea ki he kakai kotoa pē,
Jeremiah returned from Topheth, where the Lord had sent him to deliver this message. He went and stood in the court of the Lord's Temple and announced to everyone,
15 ‌ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova ʻoe ngaahi kautau, ko e ʻOtua ʻo ʻIsileli; “Vakai te u ʻomi ki he kolo ni, pea mo hono ngaahi potu kakai kotoa pē, ʻae kovi kotoa pē ʻaia naʻaku lea ki ai, koeʻuhi kuo nau fakakekeva honau kia, telia naʻa nau fanongo ki heʻeku ngaahi lea.”
This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Watch out! I am about to bring down on this city and on all its surrounding villages every disaster I warned them about, because they have stubbornly refused to listen to what I say.
