< Selemaia 10 >

1 ‌ʻE fale ʻo ʻIsileli, mou fanongo ki he lea ʻoku folofolaʻaki ʻe Sihova kiate kimoutolu!
Hear ye the word which the LORD speaketh unto you, O house of Israel;
2 ‌ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova, “ʻOua te mou ako ki he hala ʻoe hiteni, pea ʻoua te mou ilifia ki he ngaahi fakaʻilonga ʻi he langi, he ʻoku ilifia ki ai ʻae hiteni.
thus saith the LORD: Learn not the way of the nations, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the nations are dismayed at them.
3 He ko e vaʻinga ʻae ngaahi tuʻutuʻuni ʻae kakai: he ʻoku tā ʻaki ha toki ʻe ha taha ʻae ʻakau ʻi he vao, ko e ngāue ʻae tufunga.
For the customs of the peoples are vanity; for it is but a tree which one cutteth out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman with the axe.
4 ‌ʻOku nau teuteu ia ʻaki ʻae siliva mo e koula; pea ʻoku nau fakamaʻu ia ʻaki ʻae ngaahi faʻo pea mo e ngaahi hamala, ke ʻoua naʻa ngaueue ia.
They deck it with silver and with gold, they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.
5 ‌ʻOku nau tuʻu tonu ʻo hangē ko e ʻakau ko e ponga, ka ʻoku ʻikai lea: ʻoku fua ʻakinautolu, he ʻoku ʻikai te nau faʻa ʻeveʻeva. Pea ʻoua naʻa manavahē kiate kinautolu; he ʻoku ʻikai te nau faʻa fai ha kovi, pea ʻoku ʻikai ʻiate kinautolu ha fai lelei.”
They are like a pillar in a garden of cucumbers, and speak not; they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them, for they cannot do evil, neither is it in them to do good.
6 He ʻoku ʻikai ha taha ʻoku hangē ko koe, ʻE Sihova; ʻoku ke lahi koe, pea ʻoku lahi ho huafa ʻi he māfimafi.
There is none like unto Thee, O LORD; Thou art great, and Thy name is great in might.
7 Ko hai ʻe taʻemanavahē kiate koe, ʻA koe, ko e Tuʻi ʻoe ngaahi puleʻanga? He ʻoku ʻaʻau ia. He ʻoku ʻikai ha taha ʻoku tatau mo koe, ʻi he kau tangata poto kotoa pē ʻoe ngaahi kakai, pe ʻi honau ngaahi puleʻanga kotoa pē.
Who would not fear Thee, O king of the nations? For it befitteth Thee; forasmuch as among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their royalty, there is none like unto Thee.
8 Ka ʻoku nau anga fakamanu pea vale ʻaupito: ko e meʻa akonaki ki he vale ʻae tamapua.
But they are altogether brutish and foolish: the vanities by which they are instructed are but a stock;
9 ‌ʻOku ʻomi ʻae siliva lafalafa mei Tasisi, pea mo e koula mei ʻUfase, ko e ngāue ʻae tufunga, mo e nima ʻoe tangata ngaohi ukamea; ko honau kofu ʻoku ʻuliʻuli mo kulokula: ko e ngāue kotoa pē ʻae kau tangata poto.
Silver beaten into plates which is brought from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz, the work of the craftsman and of the hands of the goldsmith; blue and purple is their clothing; they are all the work of skilful men.
10 Ka ko Sihova ko e ʻOtua moʻoni, ko e ʻOtua moʻui ia, pea ko e Tuʻi taʻengata: pea ʻe ngaueue ʻa māmani ʻi hono houhau, pea ʻe ʻikai faʻa kātaki ʻe he ngaahi puleʻanga ʻa ʻene tuputāmaki.
But the LORD God is the true God, He is the living God, and the everlasting King; at His wrath the earth trembleth, and the nations are not able to abide His indignation.
11 “Pea te ke lea pehē kiate kinautolu, ‘Ko e ngaahi ʻotua naʻe ʻikai ngaohi ʻae ngaahi langi, mo māmani, ʻe fakaʻauha ʻakinautolu ʻi māmani, pea mei he lalo langi.’”
Thus shall ye say unto them: 'The gods that have not made the heavens and the earth, these shall perish from the earth, and from under the heavens.'
12 Kuo ne ngaohi ʻae kelekele ʻaki hono mālohi, kuo ne fokotuʻumaʻu ʻa māmani ʻaki ʻene ʻilo, pea kuo ne folahi ʻae ngaahi langi ʻi heʻene poto.
He that hath made the earth by His power, that hath established the world by His wisdom, and hath stretched out the heavens by His understanding;
13 ‌ʻOku folofola ia ʻaki hono leʻo, ʻoku lahi ʻae ngaahi vai ʻi he langi, pea ʻoku ne fakatupu hake ʻae ngaahi ʻao mei he ngaahi ngataʻanga ʻo māmani; ʻoku ne fakatupu ʻae ngaahi ʻuhila mo e ʻuha, pea ne ʻomi ʻae matangi mei hono ngaahi tukuʻanga koloa.
At the sound of His giving a multitude of waters in the heavens, when He causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth; when He maketh lightnings with the rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of His treasuries;
14 ‌ʻOku vale ʻi he ʻilo ʻae tangata kotoa pē: ʻoku puputuʻu ʻae tufunga kotoa pē ʻi he tamapua kuo tā: he ko e loi ʻene tamapua, pea ʻoku ʻikai ha mānava ʻi ai.
Every man is proved to be brutish, without knowledge, every goldsmith is put to shame by the graven image, his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them.
15 Ko e vaʻinga ʻakinautolu, ko e ngāue ʻae vale: pea ʻe ʻauha ʻakinautolu ʻi he ʻaho ʻe tautea ai ʻakinautolu.
They are vanity, a work of delusion; in the time of their visitation they shall perish.
16 ‌ʻOku ʻikai tatau mo kinautolu ʻae ʻinasi ʻo Sēkope: he ko e tupuʻanga ia ʻoe ngaahi meʻa kotoa pē; pea ko e fuofua ʻo hono tofiʻa ko ʻIsileli: Ko hono huafa ko Sihova.
Not like these is the portion of Jacob; for He is the former of all things, and Israel is the tribe of His inheritance; the LORD of hosts is His name.
17 ‌ʻA koe ko e nofo kolo, ke ke tānaki ho ngaʻotoʻota ʻo ke hola ʻi he fonua.
Gather up thy wares from the ground, O thou that abidest in the siege.
18 He ʻoku pehē mai ʻa Sihova, “Vakai, te u lī ʻae kakai ni ʻi he fonua, ʻo hangē ko e maka tā, pea te u fakamamahiʻi ʻakinautolu, koeʻuhi ke nau ongoʻi ia.”
For thus saith the LORD: Behold, I will sling out the inhabitants of the land at this time, and will distress them, that they may feel it.
19 Kuo u malaʻia ʻi hoku lavea! ʻOku lahi hoku kafu: ka naʻaku pehē, “Ko e mamahi moʻoni eni, ka te u kātaki pe ia.”
Woe is me for my hurt! My wound is grievous; but I said: 'This is but a sickness, and I must bear it.'
20 Kuo hae hoku fale fehikitaki, pea kuo motuhi ʻeku maea kotoa pē: kuo ʻalu ʻiate au ʻeku fānau, pea kuo ʻikai ʻakinautolu: ʻoku ʻikai toe ha niʻihi ke toe folahi ʻa hoku fale fehikitaki, pea ke tautau hoku puipui.
My tent is spoiled, and all my cords are broken; my children are gone forth of me, and they are not; there is none to stretch forth my tent any more, and to set up my curtains.
21 He kuo liliu ʻo anga fakakakano ʻae kau tauhi, pea ʻoku ʻikai te nau kumi kia Sihova: ko ia ʻe ʻikai te nau monūʻia, pea ʻe fakamovetevete honau kakai.
For the shepherds are become brutish, and have not inquired of the LORD; therefore they have not prospered, and all their flocks are scattered.
22 Vakai, ʻoku ongo mai ʻae ongoongo ʻoe longoaʻa, pea mo e maveuveu lahi mei he fonua tokelau, ke fakalala ʻae ngaahi kolo ʻo Siuta, pea ke ngaohi ia ko e ʻana ʻoe fanga talākoni.”
Hark! a report, behold, it cometh, and a great commotion out of the north country, to make the cities of Judah desolate, a dwelling-place of jackals.
23 ‌ʻE Sihova, ʻoku ou ʻilo ʻoku ʻikai ʻi he tangata pe hono hala: ʻoku ʻikai ʻi he tangata ʻoku ʻeveʻeva ke fakahinohino hono ʻaluʻanga.
O LORD, I know that man's way is not his own; it is not in man to direct his steps as he walketh.
24 ‌ʻE Sihova, ke ke taaʻi au, pea ke fai ʻi he ʻofa; ʻoua naʻa ʻi ho houhau, telia naʻa ke fakaʻauha au.
O LORD, correct me, but in measure; not in Thine anger, lest Thou diminish me.
25 Lilingi ho houhau ki he hiteni ʻaia ʻoku ʻikai te nau ʻilo koe, pea ki he ngaahi kaunga fale ʻoku ʻikai ui ki ho huafa: he kuo nau kai ʻo ʻosi ʻa Sēkope, pea kuo folo hifo ia, pea kuo nau fakaʻauha ia, pea fakalala hono nofoʻanga.
Pour out Thy wrath upon the nations that know Thee not, and upon the families that call not on Thy name; for they have devoured Jacob, yea, they have devoured him and consumed him, and have laid waste his habitation.
