< ʻIsaia 64 >
1 Taumaiā ke ke haeʻi ʻae ngaahi langi, koeʻuhi ke ke hāʻele hifo, koeʻuhi ke tafe hifo ʻae ngaahi moʻunga ʻi hoʻo ʻafio mai.
Oh that thou mightest rend the heavens, come down: at thy presence would mountains [then] melt away.
2 ʻO hangē ʻoku ulo ʻae afi vela, ʻoku ngaohi ʻe he afi ʻae vai ke lili, ke pehē hoʻo fakahā ho huafa ki ho ngaahi fili, koeʻuhi ke tetetete ʻae ngaahi puleʻanga ʻi ho ʻao!
As fire is kindled on brushwood, as water is made to bubble up by fire—to make thy name known to thy adversaries, that at thy presence nations might tremble!
3 ʻI hoʻo fai ʻae ngaahi meʻa fakamanavahē ʻaia naʻe ʻikai te nau ʻamanaki ki ai, naʻa ke hāʻele hifo, naʻe tafe hifo ʻae ngaahi moʻunga ʻi ho ʻao ʻi hoʻo ʻafio mai.
[As] when thou didst fearful deeds which we had not looked for, thou camest down, [while] at thy presence mountains melted away;
4 He talu ʻae kamataʻanga ʻo māmani ʻoku teʻeki fanongo, pe ongoʻi ʻe he telinga, pe mamata ʻe ha mata, ki ha ʻOtua mo koe, ʻaia kuo ne fai ʻae ngaahi meʻa pehē ni maʻanautolu ʻoku tatali kiate ia.
Yea! what from the beginning of the world men had not heard, not perceived by their hearing; no eye [also] had seen a god beside thee, who could do [the like] for the one that waiteth for him.
5 ʻOku ke fakafetaulaki kiate ia ʻoku fiefia pea fai māʻoniʻoni, kiate kinautolu ʻoku manatu kiate koe ʻi ho ngaahi hala: vakai, ʻoku ke houhau; he kuo mau fai angahala: ka ʻoku tuʻumaʻu [ʻena], pea te mau moʻui.
Thou acceptest him that rejoiceth and worketh righteousness, those that remember thee in thy ways: behold, thou wast wroth, for we had sinned on them continually; and can we thus be saved?
6 ʻOku mau tatau kotoa pē mo e taʻemaʻa, pea ʻoku tatau ʻemau māʻoniʻoni kotoa pē mo e ngaahi konga holoholo fakalielia; pea ʻoku mau mae kotoa pē ʻo hangē ko e louʻakau; pea ko ʻemau ngaahi hia, ʻo hangē ko e matangi, kuo ne ʻāvea ʻakimautolu.
And we are become like an unclean man all of us, and like a soiled garment, all our righteousness; and we wither like a leaf all of us; and our iniquities, like the wind, will bear us away.
7 Pea ʻoku ʻikai ha taha ʻoku ui ki ho huafa, pe ueʻi ʻe ia ia ke puke kiate koe: he kuo ke fufū ho fofonga ʻiate kimautolu, pea kuo fakaʻauha ʻakimautolu, koeʻuhi ko ʻemau ngaahi hia.
And there is none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth himself up to lay hold of thee; for thou hast hidden thy face from us, and hast let us melt away, through the force of our iniquities.
8 Ka ko eni, ʻE Sihova, ko koe ko ʻemau tamai; ko e ʻumea ʻakimautolu, pea ko homau ngaohi koe: pea ko e ngāue ʻa ho nima ʻakimautolu kotoa pē.
But now, O Lord, our father art thou; we are the clay, and thou our fashioner; and the work of thy hand are we all.
9 ʻOua naʻa ke houhau lahi, ʻE Sihova, pe manatu maʻuaipē ki he hia: vakai, pea ʻafioʻi, ʻoku mau kole kiate koe, he ko hoʻo kakai ʻakimautolu kotoa pē.
Be not wroth, O Lord, so very greatly, and do not for ever remember [our] iniquity: behold, look, we beseech thee, thy people are we all.
10 Kuo hoko ko e toafa ʻa hoʻo ngaahi kolo māʻoniʻoni, ko e potu liʻaki ʻa Saione, kuo ʻauha ʻa Selūsalema.
Thy holy cities are become a wilderness, Zion is become a wilderness, Jerusalem, a desolate place.
11 Kuo vela ʻi he afi ʻa homau fale matamata ʻeiki mo māʻoniʻoni, ʻaia naʻe fakamālō ai kiate koe ʻa ʻemau ngaahi tamai: pea kuo maumau ʻemau ngaahi meʻa lelei kotoa pē.
Our holy and beautiful house where our fathers praised thee, is burnt up with fire; and all our costly things are become ruins.
12 Te ke taʻofi koe, ʻE Sihova, koeʻuhi ko e ngaahi meʻa ni? Te ke fakalongo pe, pea fakamamahi lahi ʻakimautolu?
Wilt thou for these things refrain thyself, O Lord? wilt thou be silent, and afflict us so very greatly?
