ʻIsaia 17

1 Ko e tala mamafa ʻoku kau ki Tamasikusi. “Vakai kuo toʻo atu ʻa Tamasikusi ke ʻoua naʻa kei kolo ia, ka e hoko ia ko e potu tuʻunga fale maumau.

THE WORD AGAINST DAMASCUS. Behold, Damascus shall be taken away from amongst cities, and shall become a ruin;

2 Kuo liʻaki ʻae ngaahi kolo ʻo ʻAloeli: ʻe ʻoe fanga manu ia, pea te nau tokoto ai, pea ʻe ʻikai ha taha ke fakamanavahēʻi ʻakinautolu.

abandoned for ever, to [be] a fold and resting-place for flocks, and there shall be none to go after them.

3 ‌ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova ʻoe ngaahi kautau, ʻE ngata ʻae kolo ʻi ʻIfalemi, mo e puleʻanga ʻo Tamasikusi, pea mo e toenga kakai ʻo Silia: te nau hangē ko e ongoongolelei ʻoe fānau ʻa ʻIsileli.

And she shall no longer be a strong place for Ephraim to flee to, and there shall no longer be a kingdom in Damascus, or a remnant of Syrians; for you are no better than the children of Israel, [even] than their glory; thus says the Lord of hosts.

4 Pea ʻi he ʻaho ko ia ʻe hoko ʻo pehē, ʻe fakasiʻisiʻi ʻae ongoongolelei ʻo Sēkope, pea ʻe fakaʻaʻau ke tutue ʻae ngako ʻo hono sino.

There shall be in that day a failure of the glory of Jacob, and the riches of his glory shall be shaken.

5 Pea ʻe hangē ia ko e tānaki ʻe he tangata ututaʻu ʻene koane, pea tuʻusi hono fua ʻaki hono nima; pea ʻe hangē ia ko ia ʻoku tānaki ʻae fua ʻi he teleʻa ʻo Lifeimi.

And it shall be as if one should gather standing corn, and reap the grain of the ears; and it shall be as if one should gather ears in a rich valley;

6 “Ka e fakatoe ʻi ai ʻae fua ʻoe vaine, ʻo hangē ko e lulululu ʻae ʻakau ko e ʻolive, ko e foʻi fua ʻe ua pe tolu ʻi ʻolunga ʻi he vaʻa taupotu ki ʻolunga, ko e fā pe nima ʻi he ngaahi vaʻa taukakapa ʻo ia ʻoku fua, ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova ko e ʻOtua ʻo ʻIsileli.

and [as if] there should be left stubble therein, or [as it were] the berries of an olive tree, two or three on the topmost bough, or [as if] four or five should be left on their branches; thus says the Lord, the God of Israel.

7 ‌ʻI he ʻaho ko ia ʻe hanga hake ʻae tangata ki hono Tupuʻanga, pea ʻe tokanga ʻa hono mata ki he tokotaha māʻoniʻoni ʻo ʻIsileli.

In that day a man shall trust in him that made him, and his eyes shall have respect to the Holy One of Israel.

8 Pea ʻe ʻikai te ne sio ki he ngaahi feilaulauʻanga, ko e ngāue ʻa hono nima, pe tokanga ki he meʻa kuo ngaohi ʻe hono louhiʻi nima, ki he ngaahi vao tapu, pe ko e ngaahi tamapua.

And they shall not at all trust in their altars, nor in the works of their hands, which their fingers made; and they shall not look to the trees, nor to their abominations.

9 “ʻI he ʻaho ko ia ʻe tatau hono ngaahi kolo mālohi mo ha vaʻa kuo liʻaki, mo ha vaʻa māʻolunga, ʻaia naʻa nau tuku koeʻuhi ko e fānau ʻa ʻIsileli: pea ʻe ʻi ai ʻae fakaʻauha.

In that day your cities shall be deserted, as the Amorites and the Evaeans deserted [theirs], because of the children of Israel; and they shall be desolate.

10 Ko e meʻa ʻi hoʻo fakangalongaloʻi ʻae ʻOtua ʻo hoʻo moʻui, pea taʻemanatu ki he maka ʻo ho mālohi, ko ia te ke tō ʻae ngaahi ʻakau toulekeleka, pea tō mo ia ʻae ngaahi ʻakau mei he fonua kehe:

Because you have forsaken God your Saviour, and have not been mindful of the Lord your helper; therefore shall you plant a false plant, and a false seed.

11 ‌ʻI he ʻaho ko ia te ke ngaohi hoʻo ʻakau ke tupu, pea ʻi he pongipongi te ke ngaohi hoʻo tenga ke moʻui: ka e hoko ʻae ututaʻu ko e fokotuʻunga ʻi he ʻaho ʻoe mamahi, ko e mamahi taʻeʻiaihaʻamanaki lelei.

In the day wherein you shall plant you shall be deceived; but if you sow in the morning, [the seed] shall spring up for a crop in the day wherein you shall obtain an inheritance, and as a man's father, you shall obtain an inheritance for your sons.

12 “ʻE malaʻia ʻae fakataha lahi ʻoe kakai tokolahi, ʻoku longoaʻa ʻo hangē ko e ʻuʻulu ʻoe tahi; pea ʻi he feʻohofi ʻoe ngaahi puleʻanga, ʻoku ʻoho ʻo hangē ko e ʻoho ʻoe ngaahi vai lahi ʻaupito!

Woe [to] the multitude of many nations, as the swelling sea, so shall you be confounded; and the force of many nations shall sound like water;

13 ‌ʻE feʻohofi ʻae ngaahi puleʻanga ʻo hangē ko e ʻoho ʻoe ngaahi vai lahi: ka e lolomi ʻakinautolu[ʻe he ʻOtua], pea te nau hola ki he mamaʻo, pea ʻe tulia ʻakinautolu ʻo hangē ko e mohuku mōmoa ʻoe ngaahi moʻunga ʻoku vilingia ʻi he matangi, pea hangē ko e fisiʻiʻakau ʻi he ʻao ʻoe ʻahiohio.

many nations like much water, as when much water rushes violently: and they shall drive him away, and pursue him afar, as the dust of chaff when men winnow before the wind, and as a storm whirling the dust of the wheel.

14 Pea vakai ko e ongosia ʻi he efiafi poʻuli; pea ʻi he teʻeki hoko ʻae pongipongi kuo ʻikai ia. Ko eni ʻae ʻinasi ʻokinautolu ʻoku fakamālohiʻi ʻakitautolu, mo e ʻinasi ʻokinautolu ʻoku kaihaʻasiʻi ʻakitautolu.”

Towards evening, and there shall be grief; before the morning, and he shall not be. This is the portion of them that spoiled you, and the inheritance to them that robbed you of your inheritance.
