< Hosea 8 >
1 “ʻAi ʻae meʻalea ki ho ngutu. Te ne haʻu ʻo hangē ko e ʻikale ki he fale ʻo Sihova, koeʻuhi kuo nau maumauʻi ʻeku fuakava, pea fai talangataʻa ki heʻeku fono.
Put a trumpet to your lips! An eagle swoops over the house of the Lord because they have broken my agreement and rebelled against my law.
2 ʻE tangi ʻa ʻIsileli kiate au, ʻo pehē, ‘ʻE hoku ʻOtua, ʻoku mau ʻilo koe.’
Israel calls out to me, “Our God, we know you!”
3 Kuo liʻaki ʻe ʻIsileli ʻae meʻa ʻoku lelei: ʻe tuli ia ʻe he fili.
But Israel has rejected what is good. An enemy will chase after them.
4 Kuo nau fakanofo ʻae ngaahi tuʻi, kae ʻikai ʻiate au: kuo nau tuʻutuʻuni ʻae ngaahi ʻeiki, pea naʻe ʻikai te u ʻilo: kuo nau ngaohi ʻaki ʻa ʻenau siliva mo ʻenau koula ʻae tamapua, koeʻuhi ka nau ʻauha.
They appointed kings without my consent and chose princes without my knowledge. With their silver and gold they made idols for their own destruction.
5 Ko hoʻo ʻuhiki pulu, ʻE Samēlia, kuo ne liʻaki koe; kuo tupu ʻeku ʻita kiate kinautolu: ʻe fēfē hono fuoloa, ka nau hoko ʻo taʻehalaia?
Samaria, I reject this calf idol you have made! My anger burns against them! How long will you be incapable of being good?
6 He naʻe meia ʻIsileli foki ia: ko e tufunga naʻa ne ngaohi ia; ko ia ʻoku ʻikai ko e ʻOtua ia: ka ko e pulu siʻi ʻa Samēlia, ʻe maumauʻi ia ke fakaikiiki.
This idol is from Israel! A craftsman made it—it's not God! The calf of Samaria will be broken in pieces!
7 He kuo nau tūtuuʻi ʻae matangi, pea te nau utu ʻae ʻahiohio: ʻoku ʻikai hano muka: ʻe ʻikai maʻu ha mahoaʻa mei hono fua: ka ai ha fua, ʻe kai ia ʻo ʻosi ʻe he kau muli.
Those who sow the wind will reap the whirlwind. The stalk has no head of grain; it will produce no flour. Even if it did produce grain, foreigners would swallow it all up.
8 Kuo fōngia hifo ʻa ʻIsileli: te nau hoko ni ʻi he lotolotonga ʻoe Senitaile, ʻo hangē ko e ipu ʻoku ʻikai ʻi ai ha fiemālie.
Israel is swallowed up; among the nations they are like something nobody wants.
9 He kuo nau ʻalu hake ki ʻAsilia, ha ʻasi kai vao tokotaha pe: kuo unga ʻe ʻIfalemi ʻae kau mamana.
They have gone up to Assyria like a donkey wandering alone. Ephraim has hired lovers.
10 ʻIo, neongo kuo nau unga ʻi he ngaahi puleʻanga, te u tānaki ni ʻakinautolu, pea te nau mamahi siʻi, koeʻuhi ko e kavenga ʻae tuʻi ʻoe ngaahi ʻeiki.
Even though they have hired allies among the nations, I will gather them together. Then they will writhe under the burden of the great king.
11 Koeʻuhi kuo ngaohi ʻe ʻIfalemi ʻae ngaahi feilaulauʻanga lahi ke angahala, ʻe ai ʻae ngaahi feilaulauʻanga ke angahala ai.
Though Ephraim built many altars to make sin offerings, they instead became altars of sin!
12 Kuo u tohi kiate ia ʻae ngaahi meʻa lahi ʻa ʻeku fono, ka naʻe lau ia hangē ha meʻa kehe.
I wrote down for them the many aspects of my law, but they looked on them as foreign.
13 ʻOku nau feilaulau ʻaki ʻae kakano, ko e ngaahi feilaulau ʻo ʻeku ngaahi hifo, pea kai; ka ʻoku ʻikai ke maʻu ia ʻe Sihova, he te ne manatu ni ʻenau hia, pea totongi ki heʻenau ngaahi angahala: te nau liliu atu ki ʻIsipite.
They present me with their sacrifices, and they eat the meat, but I the Lord do not accept them. Now he will remember their wickedness, and punish them for their sins. They will return to Egypt.
14 He kuo fakangaloʻi ʻe ʻIsileli ʻa hono Tupuʻanga, pea ʻoku ne langa ʻae ngaahi fale fakaʻeiki; pea kuo fakalahi ʻe Siuta ʻae ngaahi kolo kuo ʻāʻi: ka te u fekau ʻae afi ki hono ngaahi kolo, pea te ne kai ʻae ngaahi fale fakaʻeiʻeiki ʻi ai.”
Israel has forgotten his maker, and built palaces; Judah has built many fortified cities. But I will rain fire down on their cities and burn up their fortresses.
