< Hosea 7 >

1 ‌ʻI he ʻeku tokanga ke fakamoʻui ʻa ʻIsileli, naʻe toki hā ʻae angahala ʻa ʻIfalemi, pea mo e angakovi ʻa Samēlia: he ʻoku nau fai kākā; pea ʻoku hū ki loto ʻae kaihaʻa, pea ʻoku maumau ʻituʻa ʻe he fakataha ʻoe kau kaihaʻa.
When I would have healed Israel, then the iniquity of Ephraim was disclosed, and the wickedness of Samaria: for they commit falsehood; and the thief cometh in, [and] the troop of robbers strippeth without.
2 Pea ʻoku ʻikai te nau tokanga ʻi honau loto, ʻoku ou manatu ki heʻenau angakovi kotoa pē: ko eni, ʻoku kāpui ʻakinautolu ʻe heʻenau faianga ʻanautolu; ʻoku ʻi hoku ʻao ia.
And they consider not in their hearts [that] I remember all their wickedness: now their own doings have beset them around; they are before my face.
3 ‌ʻOku nau fakafiefiaʻi ʻae tuʻi ʻi heʻenau angakovi, pea mo e houʻeiki ʻi heʻenau ngaahi loi.
They make the king glad with their wickedness, and the princes with their lies.
4 Ko e kau feʻauaki ʻakinautolu kotoa pē: ʻo hangē ko e ngotoʻumu kuo fakaʻafu ʻe he tangata taʻo mā, ʻoku ne tuku ia hili ʻene natu ʻae mā, kaeʻoua ke tupu.
They [are] all adulterers, as an oven heated by the baker, [who] ceaseth from raising after he hath kneaded the dough, until it is leavened.
5 ‌ʻI he ʻaho ʻo hotau tuʻi kuo fakakona ia ʻe he houʻeiki ʻaki ʻae ngaahi hina uaine; naʻa ne mafao hono nima mo e kau manuki.
In the day of our king the princes have made [him] sick with bottles of wine; he stretched out his hand with scorners.
6 Kuo nau teuteu honau loto hangē ko e ngotoʻumu, ʻi heʻenau kei lama: ʻoku mohe ʻi he pō kotoa ʻenau tangata taʻo mā; ʻi he pongipongi ʻoku vela ia hangē ko e afi ulo.
For they have made ready their heart like an oven, while they lie in wait: their baker sleepeth all the night; in the morning it burneth as a flaming fire.
7 ‌ʻOku nau vela kotoa pē hangē ko e ngotoʻumu; kuo nau kai ʻo ʻosi ʻenau kau fakamaau; kuo hinga honau ngaahi tuʻi kotoa pē: ʻoku ʻikai ha tokotaha ʻiate kinautolu ʻoku ui kiate au.
They are all hot as an oven, and have devoured their judges; all their kings are fallen: [there is] none among them that calleth to me.
8 Kuo fakataha ia mo e kakai ʻa ʻIfalemi; ko e foʻi mā taʻefokihi ʻa ʻIfalemi.
Ephraim, he hath mixed himself among the people; Ephraim is a cake not turned.
9 Kuo kai hono mālohi ʻe he kau muli, ka ʻoku ʻikai te ne ʻilo; ʻio, ko e louʻulu hinehina ʻoku ʻiate ia ʻi heni mo ʻena, ka ʻoku ʻikai te ne ʻilo ia.
Strangers have devoured his strength, and he knoweth [it] not: yes, gray hairs are here and there upon him, yet he knoweth not.
10 Pea ko e fielahi ʻa ʻIsileli, ʻoku fakatōhifo ia ʻi hono ʻao: pea ʻoku ʻikai te nau tafoki kia Sihova ko honau ʻOtua, pe kumi kiate ia ʻi he ngaahi meʻa ni kotoa pē.
And the pride of Israel testifieth to his face: and they do not return to the LORD their God, nor seek him for all this.
11 “ʻOku hangē foki ʻa ʻIfalemi ko e lupe vale ʻoku ʻikai hano loto: ʻoku nau ui ki ʻIsipite, pea nau ʻalu ki ʻAsilia.
Ephraim also is like a silly dove without heart: they call to Egypt, they go to Assyria.
When they shall go, I will spread my net upon them; I will bring them down as the fowls of the heaven; I will chastise them, as their congregation hath heard.
13 Malaʻia kiate kinautolu! He kuo nau hola meiate au: fakaʻauha ʻakinautolu! Koeʻuhi kuo nau talangataʻa kiate au: neongo ʻa ʻeku huhuʻi ʻakinautolu, kuo nau lea loi kiate au.
Woe to them! for they have fled from me: destruction to them! because they have transgressed against me: though I have redeemed them, yet they have spoken lies against me.
14 Pea ʻoku ʻikai te nau tangi kiate au, ʻaki honau loto ʻi heʻenau kaila ʻi honau mohenga: ʻoku nau fakataha ʻakinautolu ki he koane mo e uaine, pea ʻoku nau angatuʻu kiate au.
And they have not cried to me with their heart, when they howled upon their beds: they assemble themselves for corn and wine, [and] they rebel against me.
15 Neongo ʻeku nonoʻo mo fakamālohi honau nima, ka ʻoku nau filioʻi kovi kiate au.
Though I have bound [and] strengthened their arms, yet do they imagine mischief against me.
16 ‌ʻOku nau tafoki, kae ʻikai ki he Fungani Māʻolunga: ʻoku nau hangē ko e kaufana kākā: ʻe tō ʻi he heletā honau houʻeiki, ko e meʻa ʻi he ʻita ʻa honau ʻelelo; ko honau manuki eni ʻi he fonua ko ʻIsipite.
They return, [but] not to the most High: they are like a deceitful bow: their princes shall fall by the sword for the rage of their tongue: this [shall be] their derision in the land of Egypt.
