< Hosea 13 >

1 ‌ʻI he lea tetetete ʻa ʻIfalemi, naʻa ne hakeakiʻi ia ʻe ia ʻi ʻIsileli; ka ʻi heʻene talangataʻa ia Peali, ne mate ia.
When once Ephraim spoke, [all] trembled, so high was he exalted in Israel; but he offended through Ba'al, and he died.
2 Pea ʻoku nau angahala ni ʻo lahi hake, pea kuo nau ngaohi ʻae ngaahi fakatātā ʻaki ʻa ʻenau siliva kuo haka, pea mo e ngaahi tamapua ʻo fakatatau mo ʻenau ʻilo, ko e ngāue kotoa pē ia ʻae kau tufunga: ʻoku nau pehē ki ai, ‘Tuku ʻae kau tangata ʻoku feilaulau ke ʻuma ki he fanga pulu siʻi.’
And now they yet continue to sin, and have made themselves molten images of their silver, idols according to their own imagining, every one of them the work of the artisan: they say to them, They that sacrifice men may kiss the calves.
3 Ko ia te nau hangē ko e ʻao ʻoe pongipongi, pea hangē ko e hahau ʻoe hengihengi ʻoku mole atu, hangē ko e kafukafu kuo tafi ʻe he ʻahiohio mei he hahaʻanga, pea hangē ko e ʻahu mei he ngotoʻumu.
Therefore shall they be as the morning cloud, and as the dew that early passeth away, as the chaff that is driven by the whirlwind out of the threshing-floor, and as smoke out of a window.
4 “Ka ko Sihova au, ko ho ʻOtua, mei he fonua ʻo ʻIsipite, pea ʻikai te ke ʻilo ha ʻotua kehe ka ko au pe: he ʻoku ʻikai mo ha fakamoʻui ka ko au pe.
Yet I am the Lord thy God from the land of Egypt: and no god but me shalt thou know, and there is no saviour beside me.
5 “Naʻaku ʻilo koe ʻi he toafa, ʻi he fonua ʻoe laʻāina lahi.
I myself did provide for thee in the wilderness, in the land of great drought.
6 ‌ʻO fakatatau ki heʻenau mohuku, naʻa nau mākona; naʻa nau mākona, pea naʻe hiki hake honau loto; ko ia kuo nau fakangaloʻi au.
When they came to their pasture, they became sated; they were sated, and their heart was lifted up: therefore have they forgotten me.
7 Ko ia te u hangē ko e laione kiate kinautolu: hangē ko e lēpati ʻi he hala te u lamasi ʻakinautolu:
And now I will be unto them as a lion: as a leopard will I lie in wait by the way.
8 Te u fakafetaulaki mo kinautolu hangē ko e pea, kuo fakamasiva ʻi he ʻave ʻene fānau, pea te u haeʻi ʻae kofu ʻo honau mafu, pea te u folo ʻakinautolu ʻi ai ʻo hangē ko e laione; ʻe haehae ʻakinautolu ʻe he fanga manu ʻoe vao.
I will meet them as a bear bereaved of her whelps, and I will rend their closed-up heart; and I will devour them there like a lioness, the beasts of the field shall rend them.
9 “ʻE ʻIsileli, kuo ke fakaʻauha koe ʻe koe: ka ʻoku ʻiate au hoʻo tokoni.
Thou hast destroyed thyself, O Israel; for against me, against thy helper [didst thou rebel.]
10 Te u hoko ko ho tuʻi: kofaʻā ia ha taha kehe te ne fakamoʻui koe ʻi ho ngaahi kolo kotoa pē? Pea mo hoʻo kau fakamaau ʻaia naʻa mou pehē ai, ‘Foaki mai ha tuʻi mo e houʻeiki?’
Where then is now thy king, that he may save thee in all thy cities? and thy judges, since thou saidst, Give me a king, and princes?
11 Naʻaku foaki ha tuʻi kiate koe ʻi hoku houhau, pea naʻaku toʻo ia ʻi heʻeku tuputāmaki.
I give thee a king in my anger, and take him away in my wrath.
12 Kuo tākai ʻae hia ʻa ʻIfalemi; kuo fufū ʻene angahala.
Bound up is the iniquity of Ephraim, treasured up is his sin.
13 Ko e ngaahi mamahi ʻae fefine ʻoku langā ʻe hoko kiate ia: ko e foha vale ia; ʻe ʻikai lelei ʻene nofo fuoloa ʻi he potu ʻoku hao ai ʻae fānau.
The pains of a travailing woman shall come upon him; he is an unwise son; for he will not remain steadfast at the time of the breaking forth of the child.
14 Te u huhuʻi ʻakinautolu mei he mālohi ʻoe faʻitoka; te u huhuʻi ʻakinautolu mei he mate! ʻE mate, te u hoko ko ho maumauʻi? ʻE faʻitoka, te u hoko ko ho fakaʻauha? “ʻE puli ʻae fakatomala mei hoku mata. (Sheol h7585)
From the power of the grave would I ransom them, from death would I redeem them; [but now] where are thy plagues, O death, where is thy pestilence, O grave? compassion shall be hidden from my eyes. (Sheol h7585)
15 Neongo ʻoku faʻa fua ia ʻi he lotolotonga ʻo hono kāinga, ʻe hoko ha matangi hahake, ʻe haʻu ʻae matangi ʻa Sihova mei he toafa, pea ʻe maha ʻa ʻene matavai, pea ʻe matuʻu ʻe ʻene vai mapunopuna; te ne maumau ʻae koloa ʻoe ngaahi ipu lelei kotoa pē.
Though he grow luxuriantly in the green meadows, the east wind shall come, the wind of the Lord, rising up from the wilderness, and his spring shall become dry, and his fountain shall be dried up: the same shall plunder the treasure of all precious vessels.
16 ‌ʻE hoko ʻo lala ʻa Samēlia; he kuo ne angatuʻu ki hono ʻOtua: te nau tō ʻi he heletā: ʻe lailai ke iiki ʻa ʻenau fānau kei huhu, pea ko honau kau fefine ʻoku feitama ʻe haehae.”
Samaria shall meet her punishment; for she hath rebelled against her God: by the sword shall they fall; their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their pregnant women shall be ripped up.
