< Hosea 12 >
1 ʻOku kai ʻe ʻIfalemi ʻae matangi, pea ʻoku muimui ki he matangi hahake: ʻoku ne fakalahi ʻi he ʻaho kotoa pē ʻae loi mo e fakaʻauha, pea ʻoku nau fai ʻae fuakava mo e kau ʻAsilia, pea ʻoku ʻave ʻae lolo ki ʻIsipite.
Ephraim feedeth on wind, and followeth after the east wind: he daily increaseth lies and desolation; and they do make a covenant with the Assyrians, and oil is carried into Egypt.
YHWH hath also a controversy with Judah, and will punish Jacob according to his ways; according to his doings will he recompense him.
3 Naʻa ne kuku ʻae muivaʻe ʻo hono taʻokete ʻi he manāva, pea ʻi hono mālohi naʻa ne lavaʻi ʻae ʻOtua:
He took his brother by the heel in the womb, and by his strength he had power with Elohim:
4 ʻIo, naʻa ne mālohi ki he ʻāngelo, pea ne lavaʻi: naʻa ne tangi, pea ne lotu tāumaʻu kiate ia: naʻa ne ʻilo ia ʻi Peteli, pea naʻa ne folofola kiate kitautolu ʻi ai.
Yea, he had power over the angel, and prevailed: he wept, and made supplication unto him: he found him in Bethel, and there he spake with us;
5 ʻIo, ko Sihova, ko e ʻOtua ʻoe ngaahi tokolahi; ko Sihova ko hono fakamanatu ia.
Even YHWH Elohim of hosts; YHWH is his memorial.
6 Ko ia, tafoki koe ki ho ʻOtua: fai ki he ʻaloʻofa mo e fakamaau, pea tatali ki ho ʻOtua maʻuaipē.
Therefore turn thou to thy Elohim: keep mercy and judgment and wait on thy Elohim continually.
7 Ko e tangata fakatau ia, ʻoku ʻi hono nima ʻae meʻa fua tautau ʻoe kākā: ʻoku ne manako ke fakamālohiʻi.
He is a merchant, the balances of deceit are in his hand: he loveth to oppress.
8 Pea naʻe pehē ʻe ʻIfalemi, “Kuo hoko au ʻo koloaʻia, kuo u ʻilo maʻaku ʻae meʻa lahi: ʻi heʻeku ngaahi ngāue kotoa pē ʻe ʻikai te nau ʻilo ai ha hia ʻiate au ke angahala.”
And Ephraim said, Yet I am become rich, I have found me out substance: in all my labours they shall find none iniquity in me that were sin.
9 “Pea ko au, ko Sihova, ko ho ʻOtua, mei he fonua ʻo ʻIsipite, te u toe ngaohi koe ke nofo ʻi he ngaahi fale fehikitaki, ʻo hangē ko e ngaahi ʻaho ʻoe kātoanga mamafa.
And I that am YHWH thy Elohim from the land of Egypt will yet make thee to dwell in tabernacles, as in the days of the solemn feast.
10 Kuo u lea foki ʻi he kau palōfita, pea kuo u fakalahi ʻae ngaahi meʻa hā mai, pea kuo u lea ʻaki ʻae fakatātā, ʻi he ngāue ʻae kau palōfita.
I have also spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and used similitudes, by the ministry of the prophets.
11 ʻOku ai ʻae hia ʻi Kiliati? Ta ko e moʻoni ko e vaʻinga ʻakinautolu: ʻoku nau feilaulau ʻaki ʻae fanga pulu ʻi Kilikali; ʻio, ko honau ngaahi feilaulauʻanga ʻoku hangē ko e fokotuʻunga ʻi he ngaahi luo ʻoe ngoue.
Is there iniquity in Gilead? surely they are vanity: they sacrifice bullocks in Gilgal; yea, their altars are as heaps in the furrows of the fields.
12 Pea naʻe hola ʻa Sēkope ki he fonua ʻo Silia, pea naʻe tauhi ʻe ʻIsileli ke maʻu ha uaifi, pea ke maʻu ha uaifi naʻa ne tauhi sipi.
And Jacob fled into the country of Syria, and Israel served for a wife, and for a wife he kept sheep.
13 Pea naʻe ʻomi ʻe Sihova ʻa ʻIsileli mei ʻIsipite ʻi ha palōfita, pea ʻi ha palōfita naʻe fakamoʻui ia.
And by a prophet YHWH brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet was he preserved.
14 Naʻe fakatupu ʻiate ia ʻae houhau fakamamahi ʻe ʻIfalemi: ko ia te ne tuku hono toto ʻiate ia, pea ko hono manuki ʻe toe liliu kiate ia ʻe hono ʻEiki.
Ephraim provoked him to anger most bitterly: therefore shall he leave his blood upon him, and his reproach shall his master return unto him.
