< Hosea 10 >
1 Ko e vaine mōmoa ʻa ʻIsileli, ʻoku ne fua mai kiate ia pe: ʻo fakatatau ki he lahi ʻo hono fua kuo ne fakalahi ʻae ngaahi feilaulauʻanga; ʻo fakatatau ki he lelei ʻo hono fonua kuo nau ngaohi ʻae ngaahi tamapua masani.
Israel was a luxuriant vine, yielding fruit for himself. The more his fruit increased, the more he increased the altars. The better his land produced, the better he made the sacred pillars.
2 Kuo mavahevahe honau loto; ko eni, ʻe ʻilo kuo nau hala: te ne lī hifo honau ngaahi feilaulauʻanga, pea maumauʻi ʻenau ngaahi tamapua.
Their hearts are devious; now they must bear their guilt. The LORD will break down their altars and demolish their sacred pillars.
3 He te nau pehē ni, “ʻOku ʻikai hamau tuʻi, koeʻuhi naʻe ʻikai te mau manavahē kia Sihova; pea ko e hā ʻe fai maʻamautolu ʻe ha tuʻi?”
Surely now they will say, “We have no king, for we do not revere the LORD. What can a king do for us?”
4 Kuo nau lea ʻaki ʻae ngaahi lea, ʻo tuki loi ʻi he fai ʻae fuakava: ko ia kuo tupu ʻae fakamaau ʻo hangē ko e hemiloki ʻi he luoluo ʻoe ngoue.
They speak mere words; with false oaths they make covenants. So judgment springs up like poisonous weeds in the furrows of a field.
5 ʻE manavahē ʻae kakai ʻo Samēlia, koeʻuhi ko e ngaahi pulu siʻi ʻa Pete-ʻAveni: ʻe tangilāulau ai ʻae kakai ʻo ia, mo e kau taulaʻeiki ʻaia naʻe fiefia ai, koeʻuhi ko hono nāunau, ko e meʻa ʻi heʻene mahuʻi mei ai.
The people of Samaria will fear for the calf of Beth-aven. Indeed, its people will mourn with its idolatrous priests— those who rejoiced in its glory— for it has been taken from them into exile.
6 ʻE ʻave ia foki ki ʻAsilia ko e meʻaʻofa ki he tuʻi ko Salepi: ʻe hoko ʻae mā kia ʻIfalemi, pea ʻe mā ʻa ʻIsileli ʻi heʻene fakakaukau ʻaʻana.
Yes, it will be carried to Assyria as tribute to the great king. Ephraim will be seized with shame; Israel will be ashamed of its wooden idols.
7 Ka ko Samēlia, ʻe tapipi hono tuʻi, ʻo hangē ko e koā mei he fukahi vai.
Samaria will be carried off with her king like a twig on the surface of the water.
8 ʻE ʻauha foki ʻae ngaahi potu māʻolunga ʻo ʻAveni, ko e angahala ʻa ʻIsileli: ko e ʻakau talatala mo e tiseli ʻe tupu hake ʻi honau ngaahi feilaulauʻanga; pea te nau lea ki he ngaahi moʻunga, ʻo pehē, “ʻUfiʻufi kimautolu;” pea ki he ngaahi tafungofunga, ʻo pehē, “Taʻomia kimautolu.”
The high places of Aven will be destroyed— it is the sin of Israel; thorns and thistles will overgrow their altars. Then they will say to the mountains, “Cover us!” and to the hills, “Fall on us!”
9 “ʻE ʻIsileli, kuo ke angahala talu mei he ngaahi ʻaho ʻo Kipea: naʻa nau tuʻu ʻi ai: ko e tau ʻi Kipea ki he fānau ʻae angahia naʻe ʻikai te ne fakamoʻua ʻakinautolu.
Since the days of Gibeah you have sinned, O Israel, and there you have remained. Did not the battle in Gibeah overtake the sons of iniquity?
10 ʻOku ʻi heʻeku holi ke tautea ʻakinautolu; pea ʻe fakataha ʻae kakai kiate kinautolu, ʻoka nau ka haʻisia ʻakinautolu ʻi heʻena ongo luo.
I will chasten them when I please; nations will be gathered against them to put them in bondage for their double transgression.
11 Ko ʻIfalemi ko e pulu mui kuo akonekina, ʻoku manako ke malaki [ʻae koane]: ka naʻaku laka ʻi hono kia matamatalelei: te u ngaohi ʻa ʻIfalemi ke heka; ʻe toho huo ʻa Siuta, pea momosi hono kelekele fefeka ʻe Sēkope.
Ephraim is a well-trained heifer that loves to thresh; but I will place a yoke on her fair neck. I will harness Ephraim, Judah will plow, and Jacob will break the hard ground.
12 Tūtuuʻi kiate kimoutolu ʻi he angatonu, utu ʻi he ʻaloʻofa, fakamolū ʻae kelekele; ʻoku tuku vaoa he ko e kuonga eni ke kumi kia Sihova, kaeʻoua ke ne hāʻele mai, pea fakaʻuha ʻae māʻoniʻoni kiate kimoutolu.
Sow for yourselves righteousness and reap the fruit of loving devotion; break up your unplowed ground. For it is time to seek the LORD until He comes and sends righteousness upon you like rain.
13 Kuo mou keli ʻaki ʻae huo toho ʻi he angakovi, kuo mou utu ʻi he angahia; kuo mou kai ʻae fua ʻoe loi: koeʻuhi kuo ke falala ki ho hala, mo hono tokolahi ʻo hoʻo kau tangata mālohi.
You have plowed wickedness and reaped injustice; you have eaten the fruit of lies. Because you have trusted in your own way and in the multitude of your mighty men,
14 Ko ia ʻe tupu ʻae maveuveu ʻi he lotolotonga ʻoe kakai, pea ʻe maumauʻi ho ngaahi kolo tau, hangē naʻe maumauʻi ʻe Salimani ʻa Peteapeli ʻi he ʻaho ʻoe tau: naʻe lailai ʻae faʻē mo feleteni mo ʻene fānau.
the roar of battle will rise against your people, so that all your fortresses will be demolished as Shalman devastated Beth-arbel in the day of battle, when mothers were dashed to pieces along with their children.
15 ʻE pehē ʻae fai ʻe Peteli kiate kimoutolu, koeʻuhi ko hoʻomou ngaahi angakovi lahi: ʻi ha pongipongi pe ʻe mātuʻaki tuʻusi ʻae tuʻi ʻo ʻIsileli.
Thus it will be done to you, O Bethel, because of your great wickedness. When the day dawns, the king of Israel will be utterly cut off.
