< Hakeai 1 >

1 ‌ʻI hono ua ʻoe taʻu ʻo Talaiasi ko e tuʻi, ʻi hono ono ʻoe māhina, ʻi he ʻuluaki ʻaho ʻoe māhina, naʻe hoko ai ʻae folofola ʻa Sihova, ʻia Hakeai ko e palōfita, kia Selupepeli ko e foha ʻo Sialiteli, ko e pule ʻo Siuta, pea kia Siosiua ko e foha ʻo Sosataki, ko e taulaʻeiki, ʻo pehē,
In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, the LORD’s word came by Haggai the prophet, to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, saying,
2 ‌ʻOku folofola ʻe Sihova ʻoe ngaahi kautau ʻo pehē, “ʻOku lea, ʻe he kakai ni, ʻoku teʻeki ke hoko ʻae kuonga, ʻae kuonga ke langa ai ʻae fale ʻo Sihova.”
“This is what the LORD of Armies says: These people say, ‘The time hasn’t yet come, the time for the LORD’s house to be built.’”
3 Pea naʻe toki hoko ʻae folofola ʻa Sihova ia Hakeai ko e palōfita, ʻo pehē.
Then the LORD’s word came by Haggai the prophet, saying,
4 “Ko e kuonga koā eni kiate kimoutolu, ʻakimoutolu ʻae kakai, ke nonofo ʻi homou ngaahi fale kuo ʻaofi, ka e tuku siʻaki ʻae fale ni?
“Is it a time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, while this house lies waste?
5 Pea ko ia ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova ʻoe ngaahi kautau: Fakakaukau ki homou ngaahi ʻaluʻanga.
Now therefore this is what the LORD of Armies says: ‘Consider your ways.
6 Kuo lahi hoʻomou tūtuuʻi, kae siʻi ʻae utu; ʻoku mou kai, ka ʻoku ʻikai te mou mākona; ʻoku mou inu, ka ʻoku ʻikai te mou fiu ʻi he inu; ʻoku mou fakakofuʻi ʻakimoutolu, ka ʻoku ʻikai ha taha ʻoku māfana; pea ko ia ʻoku maʻu totongi, ʻoku maʻu totongi ke ne ʻai ia ki he kato ava.
You have sown much, and bring in little. You eat, but you don’t have enough. You drink, but you aren’t filled with drink. You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm; and he who earns wages earns wages to put them into a bag with holes in it.’
7 “ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova ʻoe ngaahi kautau; Fakakaukau ki homou ngaahi ʻaluʻanga.
“This is what the LORD of Armies says: ‘Consider your ways.
8 ‌ʻAlu hake ki he moʻunga, pea ʻomi ʻae ʻakau, pea langa ʻae fale; pea te u fiemālie ki ai, pea ʻe fakaongolelei au,” ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova.
Go up to the mountain, bring wood, and build the house. I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified,” says the LORD.
9 “Naʻa mou sio ki ha meʻa lahi, pea vakai ʻoku siʻi; pea ʻi hoʻomou ʻomi ia ki ʻapi, naʻaku ifi ki ai.” ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova ʻoe ngaahi kautau, “Ko e hā? Koeʻuhi ko hoku fale ʻaia kuo lala, pea ʻoku mou lele taki taha ki hono fale ʻoʻona.
“You looked for much, and, behold, it came to little; and when you brought it home, I blew it away. Why?” says the LORD of Armies, “Because of my house that lies waste, while each of you is busy with his own house.
10 Ko ia kuo taʻofi ai ʻae langi ʻi ʻolunga ʻiate kimoutolu mei he hahau, pea kuo taʻofi ʻae fonua mei hono fua.
Therefore for your sake the heavens withhold the dew, and the earth withholds its fruit.
11 Pea naʻaku ui ʻae laʻāina ki he fonua, pea ki he ngaahi moʻunga, pea ki he uite, pea ki he uaine foʻou, pea ki he lolo, pea ki he meʻa ʻaia ʻoku tupu hake mei he kelekele, pea ki he kakai, pea ki he fanga manu, pea ki he ngaahi ngāue kotoa pē ʻoe nima.
I called for a drought on the land, on the mountains, on the grain, on the new wine, on the oil, on that which the ground produces, on men, on livestock, and on all the labor of the hands.”
Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel and Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the LORD their God’s voice, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the LORD their God had sent him; and the people feared the LORD.
13 Pea naʻe toki lea ʻa Hakeai ko e talafekau ʻa Sihova, ʻi he fekau ʻa Sihova ki he kakai, ʻo pehē, “ʻOku ou ʻiate kimoutolu, ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova.”
Then Haggai, the LORD’s messenger, spoke the LORD’s message to the people, saying, “I am with you,” says the LORD.
14 Pea naʻe ueʻi ʻe Sihova ʻae laumālie ʻo Selupepeli ko e foha ʻo Sialiteli, ko e pule ʻo Siuta, mo e laumālie ʻo Siosiua, ko e foha ʻo Sosataki, ko e taulaʻeiki lahi mo e laumālie he toenga kotoa pē ʻoe kakai; pea naʻa nau haʻu ʻo ngāue ʻi he fale ʻo Sihova ʻoe ngaahi kautau, ko honau ʻOtua,
The LORD stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and worked on the house of the LORD of Armies, their God,
15 ‌ʻI hono uofulu ma fā ʻoe ʻaho, ʻi hono ono ʻoe māhina, ʻi hono ua ʻoe taʻu ʻo Talaiasi ko e tuʻi.
in the twenty-fourth day of the month, in the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king.
