< Hapakuki 1 >

1 Ko e tala mamafa ʻaia naʻe mamata ki ai ʻae palōfita ko Hapakuki.
THE burden which Habakkuk the prophet did see.
2 ‌ʻE Sihova, ʻe fēfē hono fuoloa ʻo ʻeku tangi, kae ʻikai te ke fanongo! ʻIo, ʻa ʻeku tangi kalanga kiate koe, koeʻuhi ko e fakamālohi, kae ʻikai te ke fakamoʻui!
O Lord, how long shall I cry, and thou wilt not hear! even cry out unto thee of violence, and thou wilt not save!
3 Ko e hā ʻoku ke fakahā ai kiate au ʻae angahala, pea pule ke u mamata ki he mamahi? He ʻoku ʻi hoku ʻao ʻae maumau mo e fakamālohi: pea ʻoku ai ʻaia ʻoku fakatupu ʻae fekeʻikeʻi, mo e fakakikihi.
Why dost thou shew me iniquity, and cause me to behold grievance? for spoiling and violence are before me: and there are that raise up strife and contention.
4 Ko ia ʻoku vaivai ai ʻae fono, pea ʻoku ʻikai ʻaupito ke ʻalu atu ʻae fakamaau: he kuo kāpui ʻae māʻoniʻoni ʻe he angahala; ko ia kuo ʻalu atu ai ʻae fakamaau taʻetotonu.
Therefore the law is slacked, and judgment doth never go forth: for the wicked doth compass about the righteous; therefore wrong judgment proceedeth.
5 “Vakai, ʻakimoutolu ʻi he ngaahi hiteni, pea tokanga, mo ofo lahi: he te u fai ha ngāue ʻi homou ngaahi ʻaho, ʻe ʻikai te mou tui ki ai, ʻo kapau ʻe tala ia kiate kimoutolu.
Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvellously: for I will work a work in your days, which ye will not believe, though it be told you.
6 He vakai, ʻoku ou fokotuʻu hake ʻae kakai Kalitia, ko e puleʻanga fakaʻita mo fakatoʻotoʻo, ʻaia ʻe ʻalu atu ki he māukupu ʻoe fonua, ke maʻu ʻae ngaahi potu nofoʻanga ʻoku ʻikai ʻonautolu.
For, lo, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, which shall march through the breadth of the land, to possess the dwellingplaces that are not theirs.
7 ‌ʻOku fakailifia mo fakamanavahē ʻakinautolu: ko ʻenau fakamaau mo e nāunau ʻe ʻalu atu ʻiate kinautolu.
They are terrible and dreadful: their judgment and their dignity shall proceed of themselves.
8 ‌ʻOku veʻe vave foki ʻa ʻenau fanga hoosi ʻi he fanga lēpati, pea ʻoku fekai ʻi he fanga ulofi ʻoe efiafi: pea ko honau kau tangata heka hoosi, ʻe mafola ʻakinautolu, pea ʻe haʻu ʻakinautolu mei he mamaʻo: te nau puna ʻo hangē ko e ʻikale ʻoku fakavave ke kai.
Their horses also are swifter than the leopards, and are more fierce than the evening wolves: and their horsemen shall spread themselves, and their horsemen shall come from far; they shall fly as the eagle that hasteth to eat.
9 ‌ʻE haʻu ʻakinautolu kotoa pē ko e fakamālohi: ʻe kokomo hake ʻe honau mata, ʻo hangē ko e matangi hahake, pea te nau tānaki ʻae pōpula, ʻo hangē ko e ʻoneʻone.
They shall come all for violence: their faces shall sup up as the east wind, and they shall gather the captivity as the sand.
10 Pea te nau manuki ki he ngaahi tuʻi, pea ʻe hoko ʻae houʻeiki ko e manukiʻanga kiate kinautolu: te nau taukaea ʻae ngaahi potu mālohi kotoa pē; he te nau fokotuʻu hake ʻae kelekele, ʻo maʻu ia.
And they shall scoff at the kings, and the princes shall be a scorn unto them: they shall deride every strong hold; for they shall heap dust, and take it.
11 Pea ʻe toki liliu ai hono loto, pea te ne ʻalu atu, mo fai talangataʻa, ʻo tuki hono mālohi ni ki hono ʻotua.”
Then shall his mind change, and he shall pass over, and offend, imputing this his power unto his god.
12 ʻIkai ʻoku ke talu mei muʻa koe, ʻE Sihova, ko hoku ʻOtua, ko ʻeku tokotaha māʻoniʻoni? ʻE ʻikai te mau mate. ʻE Sihova, kuo ke tuʻutuʻuni ʻakinautolu maʻa e fakamaau; pea kuo ke fokotuʻu ʻakinautolu maʻa e tautea, ʻE ʻOtua māfimafi.
Art thou not from everlasting, O Lord my God, mine Holy One? we shall not die. O Lord, thou hast ordained them for judgment; and, O mighty God, thou hast established them for correction.
13 ‌ʻOku ke fofonga māʻoniʻoni fau ʻā koe, pea ʻikai ai te ke faʻa ʻafio ki he kovi, pea ʻoku ʻikai te ke faʻa sio ki he angahala: ko e hā ʻoku ke ʻafio ai kiate kinautolu ʻoku fai kākā, pea ke longo pe, ka ʻoku fakaʻauha ʻe he angahala ʻaia ʻoku māʻoniʻoni hake ʻiate ia?
Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity: wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously, and holdest thy tongue when the wicked devoureth the man that is more righteous than he?
14 Pea ʻoku ngaohi ʻae kakai ʻo hangē ko e ngaahi ika ʻoe tahi, mo tatau mo e ngaahi meʻa totolo, ʻoku ʻikai ha pule kiate kinautolu?
And makest men as the fishes of the sea, as the creeping things, that have no ruler over them?
15 ‌ʻOku nau toʻo hake ʻakinautolu kotoa pē ʻi he mātaʻu, ʻoku nau moʻua ʻakinautolu ʻi honau kupenga, mo tānaki ʻakinautolu ʻi honau kupenga toho, ko ia ʻoku nau fiefia mo nekeneka ai.
They take up all of them with the angle, they catch them in their net, and gather them in their drag: therefore they rejoice and are glad.
16 Ko ia ʻoku nau feilaulau ki honau kupenga, mo feilaulau tutu ki honau kupenga toho; koeʻuhi ko e meʻa ʻiate kinautolu ʻoku momona ai honau ʻinasi, pea lahi ʻa ʻenau meʻakai.
Therefore they sacrifice unto their net, and burn incense unto their drag; because by them their portion is fat, and their meat plenteous.
17 Ko ia, ʻe ʻaʻau koā honau kupenga, pea ʻikai ʻaupito ha taʻofi ki he fakaʻauha ʻoe ngaahi puleʻanga?
Shall they therefore empty their net, and not spare continually to slay the nations?
