1 Naʻe toe hoko foki ʻae folofola ʻa Sihova kiate au, ʻo pehē,
Again the word of YHWH came unto me, saying,
2 “Foha ʻoe tangata, lea ki he fānau ʻa hoʻo kakai, pea ke pehē kiate kinautolu, Kapau te u ʻomi ʻae heletā ki ha fonua, pea ʻe vaheʻi ʻe he kakai ʻoe fonua ha tangata ʻi honau potu fonua, pea tuku ia ko honau tangata leʻo:
Son of man, speak to the children of thy people, and say unto them, When I bring the sword upon a land, if the people of the land take a man of their coasts, and set him for their watchman:
3 Pea kapau ʻi heʻene sio ʻoku haʻu ʻae heletā ki he fonua, pea ʻoku ne ifi ʻae meʻalea, mo tala ki he kakai;
If when he seeth the sword come upon the land, he blow the trumpet, and warn the people;
4 Ka pehē, ko ia kotoa pē ʻoku fanongo ki he hā mai ʻae meʻalea, ka ʻoku ʻikai tuitala; kapau ʻe hoko mai ʻae heletā, pea teʻia ʻaki ia, ʻe ʻi hono tumuʻaki pe ʻoʻona ʻa hono toto.
Then whosoever heareth the sound of the trumpet, and taketh not warning; if the sword come, and take him away, his blood shall be upon his own head.
5 He naʻa ne fanongo ki he leʻo ʻoe meʻalea ka naʻe ʻikai valokia ai ia: ʻe ʻiate ia pe ʻa hono toto. Ka ko ia ʻoku tuitala ʻe fakamoʻui ʻe ia ʻa hono laumālie.
He heard the sound of the trumpet, and took not warning; his blood shall be upon him. But he that taketh warning shall deliver his soul.
6 Pea kapau ʻe sio ʻae tangata leʻo ʻoku haʻu ʻae heletā, ka ʻoku ʻikai ifi ʻe ia ʻae meʻalea, pea ʻoku ʻikai ha tala ki he kakai: kapau ʻe hoko mai ʻae heletā ʻo teʻia ʻaki ha taha ʻiate kinautolu, ʻe ʻave moʻoni ia ʻi heʻene hia, ka ko hono toto te u ʻeke ki ai ki he nima ʻoe tangata leʻo.
But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman's hand.
7 Pea ʻoku pehē, ʻE foha ʻoe tangata, kuo u tuku koe ko e leʻo ki he fale ʻo ʻIsileli; ko ia te ke fanongo ki he folofola mei hoku fofonga, pea ke valokiʻi ʻakinautolu meiate au.
So thou, O son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth, and warn them from me.
8 ‌ʻO kau ka pehē ki he angahala, ʻE angahala ko e moʻoni te ke mate koe; kapau ʻe ʻikai te ke lea koe ke valokiʻi ʻae angahala mei hono hala, ʻe mate ʻae angahala ko ia ʻi heʻene hia, ka te u ʻekeʻi hono toto mei ho nima ʻoʻou.
When I say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die; if thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.
9 Ka ko eni, kapau te ke valoki ʻae angahala ke liliu mei hono hala; pea kapau ʻe ʻikai tafoki ia mei hono hala ʻe mate moʻoni ia ʻi heʻene hia; ka kuo ke fakatonuhiaʻi ʻe koe ʻa ho laumālie.
Nevertheless, if thou warn the wicked of his way to turn from it; if he do not turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.
10 “Ko ia, ʻE foha ʻoe tangata, ke ke lea ki he fale ʻo ʻIsileli; ʻoku mou lea, ʻo pehē, ‘Kapau ʻoku ʻiate kimautolu pē ʻemau fai kovi mo ʻemau angahala, pea ʻoku mau fakaʻaʻau ai ki mui, pea tā koeʻumaʻā ʻemau moʻui?’
Therefore, O thou son of man, speak unto the house of Israel; Thus ye speak, saying, If our transgressions and our sins be upon us, and we pine away in them, how should we then live?
11 Lea kiate kinautolu, ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova ko e ʻOtua, hangē ʻoku ou moʻui, ʻoku ʻikai te u fiemālie ʻi he mate ʻae angahala; ka ʻi he tafoki ʻae angahala mei hono hala ke ne moʻui: tafoki mai, tafoki mai mei homou hala kovi: he ko e hā te mou fie mate ai, ʻe fale ʻo ʻIsileli?
Say unto them, As I live, saith the Sovereign YHWH, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?
12 Ko ia, ʻa koe foha ʻoe tangata, ke ke pehē ki he fānau ʻa hoʻo kakai, ʻE ʻikai fakamoʻui ʻaki ʻae māʻoniʻoni ʻa ʻene māʻoniʻoni ʻi he ʻaho ʻo ʻene fai hala: pea koeʻuhi ko e fai hala ʻae angahala, ʻe ʻikai te ne hinga ai ʻi he ʻaho ko ia ʻoku ne tafoki mei heʻene angahala; pea ʻe ʻikai faʻa moʻui ʻae māʻoniʻoni ʻi he ʻaho ʻoku ne angahala ai.
Therefore, thou son of man, say unto the children of thy people, The righteousness of the righteous shall not deliver him in the day of his transgression: as for the wickedness of the wicked, he shall not fall thereby in the day that he turneth from his wickedness; neither shall the righteous be able to live for his righteousness in the day that he sinneth.
13 ‌ʻO kau ka pehē ʻeau ki he māʻoniʻoni, ko e moʻoni te ne moʻui; ka ʻoku ne falala pe ia ki heʻene māʻoniʻoni ʻaʻana, mo ne fai hala, ko ʻene māʻoniʻoni kotoa pē ʻe ʻikai manatuʻi; ka ʻe mate pe ia, ʻi heʻene kovi ʻaia kuo ne fai.
When I shall say to the righteous, that he shall surely live; if he trust to his own righteousness, and commit iniquity, all his righteousnesses shall not be remembered; but for his iniquity that he hath committed, he shall die for it.
14 Mo eni foki, ʻo kau ka pehē ʻeau ki he angahala, ko e moʻoni te ke mate koe; pea kapau te ne tafoki mei heʻene angahala, pea fai ʻe ia ʻaia ʻoku totonu mo lelei;
Again, when I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; if he turn from his sin, and do that which is lawful and right;
15 Ka toe ʻatu ʻe he angahala ʻae meʻa naʻe tuku ko e fakamoʻoni, mo ne toe ʻatu ʻaia naʻa ne kaihaʻasi, mo ne ʻeveʻeva ʻi he fekau ʻoe fakamoʻui, ʻo ʻikai ke toe fai hala; ko e moʻoni ʻe moʻui pe ia, ʻe ʻikai siʻi te ne mate.
If the wicked restore the pledge, give again that he had robbed, walk in the statutes of life, without committing iniquity; he shall surely live, he shall not die.
16 ‌ʻE ʻikai toe lau kiate ia ha taha ʻi he ngaahi angahala ʻaia kuo ne fai: kuo ne fai ʻaia ʻoku totonu mo lelei: ko e moʻoni te ne moʻui.
None of his sins that he hath committed shall be mentioned unto him: he hath done that which is lawful and right; he shall surely live.
17 “Ka ʻoku pehē ʻe he fānau ʻa hoʻo kakai, ʻOku ʻikai fai tatau ʻae ʻulungāanga ʻa Sihova: ka ko kinautolu ia ʻoku fai kehekehe ʻenau anga.
Yet the children of thy people say, The way of YHWH is not equal: but as for them, their way is not equal.
18 ‌ʻOka tafoki ʻaia ʻoku māʻoniʻoni mei heʻene māʻoniʻoni, mo ne fai hala, ʻe mate moʻoni ai ia.
When the righteous turneth from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, he shall even die thereby.
19 Ka ko e angahala ʻoka tafoki mai ia mei heʻene angahala, mo ne fai ʻe ia ʻaia ʻoku totonu mo lelei, ʻe moʻui ai ia.
But if the wicked turn from his wickedness, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall live thereby.
20 Ka ʻoku mou pehē, ʻOku ʻikai fai tatau ʻae ʻulungāanga ʻa Sihova. ʻE fale ʻo ʻIsileli, te u fakamaau ʻakimoutolu ʻo fakatatau ki homou hala taki taha.”
Yet ye say, The way of YHWH is not equal. O ye house of Israel, I will judge you every one after his ways.
21 Pea ʻi heʻene hoko ki hono hongofulu ma ua taʻu ʻo ʻemau pōpula, ʻi hono hongofulu ʻoe māhina, pea mo hono nima ʻoe ʻaho ʻi he māhina, naʻe haʻu kiate au, ha tokotaha naʻe hao mai mei Selūsalema, mo ne pehē mai, Kuo kapa ʻae kolo.
And it came to pass in the twelfth year of our captivity, in the tenth month, in the fifth day of the month, that one that had escaped out of Jerusalem came unto me, saying, The city is smitten.
22 Ka ko eni, ʻi he teʻeki ai ke haʻu ʻaia naʻe hola mai naʻe ʻiate au ʻae nima ʻo Sihova, ʻi he efiafi poʻuli; pea naʻe matoʻo ʻa hoku ngutu, ʻo aʻu ki heʻene hoko mai ʻi he pongipongi; naʻe matoʻo ʻa hoku ngutu, naʻe ʻikai te u kei noa.
Now the hand of YHWH was upon me in the evening, afore he that was escaped came; and had opened my mouth, until he came to me in the morning; and my mouth was opened, and I was no more dumb.
23 Pea naʻe toki ʻomi ia ʻae folofola ʻa Sihova kiate au, ʻo pehē,
Then the word of YHWH came unto me, saying,
24 “Foha ʻoe tangata, ko kinautolu ʻoku nofo ki he ngaahi potu liʻaki ʻo ʻIsileli, ʻoku lea ʻo pehē, ‘Naʻe tokotaha pe ʻa ʻEpalahame, pea ne maʻu ʻe ia ʻae fonua: ka ʻoku mau tokolahi; kuo foaki mai ʻae fonua ko homau tofiʻa.’
Son of man, they that inhabit those wastes of the land of Israel speak, saying, Abraham was one, and he inherited the land: but we are many; the land is given us for inheritance.
25 Ko ia ke ke lea kiate kinautolu, ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova ko e ʻOtua; ʻOku mou kai mo e toto, mo hanga hake homou mata ki homou ngaahi tamapua, mo lilingi toto: pea ʻe ʻomoutolu koā ʻae fonua?
Wherefore say unto them, Thus saith the Sovereign YHWH; Ye eat with the blood, and lift up your eyes toward your idols, and shed blood: and shall ye possess the land?
26 ‌ʻOku mou tuʻu mo hoʻomou heletā, ʻoku mou fai meʻa fakalielia, pea ʻoku mou tonoʻi kotoa pē ʻae uaifi ʻo hono kaungāʻapi: pea ʻe ʻomoutolu koā ʻae fonua?
Ye stand upon your sword, ye work abomination, and ye defile every one his neighbour's wife: and shall ye possess the land?
27 Ke ke lea ʻo pehē kiate kinautolu, ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova ko e ʻOtua; Ko au eni, ʻoku ou moʻui, pea ko e moʻoni ʻe tō hifo ʻi he heletā, ʻakinautolu ʻoku ʻi he ngaahi potu lala, pea mo ia ʻoku ʻi he ʻataʻatā ʻoe ngoueʻanga, te u foaki ia ko e meʻakai ki he fanga manu, pea ko kinautolu ʻe ʻi he kolo tau, pe ʻi he ngaahi ʻanaʻi maka te nau mate ʻi he mahaki fakaʻauha.
Say thou thus unto them, Thus saith the Sovereign YHWH; As I live, surely they that are in the wastes shall fall by the sword, and him that is in the open field will I give to the beasts to be devoured, and they that be in the forts and in the caves shall die of the pestilence.
For I will lay the land most desolate, and the pomp of her strength shall cease; and the mountains of Israel shall be desolate, that none shall pass through.
29 Pea te nau toki ʻilo ko Sihova au, ʻo kau ka fakatōkilalo ʻae fonua ke lala ʻaupito, koeʻuhi ko e ngaahi meʻa fakalielia ʻaia kuo nau fai.”
Then shall they know that I am YHWH, when I have laid the land most desolate because of all their abominations which they have committed.
30 “Ko eni foki, ʻa koe foha ʻoe tangata, ʻoku kei felauʻikoviʻaki koe ʻe he fānau ʻa hoʻo kakai ʻi he veʻe ʻā, pea ʻi he matapā kotoa pē ʻoe fale, mo nau fealēleaʻaki mo taki taha pehē ki hono kāinga, ʻo pehē, ʻOku ou kole ke mou haʻu ke tau fanongo ki ha folofola ʻoku ʻomi meia Sihova.
Also, thou son of man, the children of thy people still are talking against thee by the walls and in the doors of the houses, and speak one to another, every one to his brother, saying, Come, I pray you, and hear what is the word that cometh forth from YHWH.
31 Pea ʻoku nau haʻu kiate koe ʻo hangē ko e haʻu ʻae kakai, pea ʻoku nau nofo ʻi ho ʻao ʻo hangē ko hoku kakai, pea ʻoku nau fanongo ki hoʻo ngaahi lea, ka ʻoku ʻikai te nau fie fai ki ai: he ʻoku nau fakahā ʻaki honau ngutu ʻae ʻofa lahi, ka ʻoku muimui honau loto ki heʻenau manumanu.
And they come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth they shew much love, but their heart goeth after their covetousness.
32 Pea vakai, ʻoku ke tatau kiate kinautolu mo e fasi mālie lahi ʻa ha taha ʻoku leʻo mālie, mo faʻa tā ke mālie ʻae meʻa tatangi: he ʻoku nau fanongo ki hoʻo ngaahi lea, ka ʻoku ʻikai te nau fai ki ai.
And, lo, thou art unto them as a very lovely song of one that hath a pleasant voice, and can play well on an instrument: for they hear thy words, but they do them not.
33 Pea ka hoko mai ʻae meʻa ko eni, (vakai, ʻe hoko pe ia, ) te nau toki ʻilo, tā naʻe ai ha palōfita ʻiate kinautolu.”
And when this cometh to pass, (lo, it will come, ) then shall they know that a prophet hath been among them.
