< ʻIsikieli 20 >

1 Pea naʻe hoko ʻo pehē ʻi hono fitu ʻoe taʻu, ʻi hono nima ʻoe māhina, pea ʻi hono hongofulu ʻoe ʻaho ʻi he māhina, naʻe haʻu ai ʻae niʻihi ʻi he kau mātuʻa ʻo ʻIsileli ke fakafehuʻi kia Sihova, pea naʻa nau nofo ʻi hoku ʻao.
It came about in the seventh year, on the tenth day of the fifth month, that elders of Israel came to inquire of Yahweh and sat before me.
Then the word of Yahweh came to me, saying,
3 “Foha ʻoe tangata, lea ki he kau mātuʻa ʻo ʻIsileli, pea ke pehē kiate kinautolu, ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova ko e ʻOtua; kuo mou haʻu ke fakafehuʻi kiate au? ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova ko e ʻOtua, Hangē ʻoku ou moʻui, ʻe ʻikai te u tali ha fakafehuʻi meiate kimoutolu.
“Son of man, declare to the elders of Israel and say to them, 'The Lord Yahweh says this: Have you come to inquire of me? As I live, I will not be inquired of by you!—this is the Lord Yahweh's declaration.'
4 “ʻIkai te ke fakahalaia ʻakinautolu, ʻe foha ʻoe tangata, ʻikai te ke fakahalaia ʻakinautolu? Fakaʻilo kiate kinautolu ʻae fakalielia ʻo ʻenau ngaahi tamai:
Will you judge them? Will you judge, son of man? Let them know about their fathers' abominations.
5 Pea ke pehē kiate kinautolu, ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova ko e ʻOtua; ʻI he ʻaho ko ia naʻaku fili ʻa ʻIsileli, pea u hiki hake hoku nima ki he hako ʻoe fale ʻo Sēkope, pea naʻaku fakahā au kiate kinautolu ʻi he fonua ko ʻIsipite, ʻi heʻeku hiki hake hoku nima kiate kinautolu, pea u pehē, Ko au, ko Sihova, ko homou ʻOtua;
Say to them, 'The Lord Yahweh says this: On the day that I chose Israel and raised my hand to swear an oath to the descendants of the house of Jacob, and made myself known to them in the land of Egypt, when I raised my hand to swear an oath to them. I said, “I am Yahweh your God”—
6 ‌ʻI he ʻaho naʻaku hiki hake hoku nima kiate kinautolu, ke u ʻomi ʻakinautolu mei he fonua ko ʻIsipite, ki ha fonua ne u fili mai moʻonautolu, naʻe fetāfeaki ai ʻae huʻahuhu mo e hone, ʻaia ko e fungani ʻi he fonua kotoa pē.
on that day I raised my hand to swear an oath to them that I would bring them out of the land of Egypt into a land that I had carefully selected for them. It was flowing with milk and honey; it was the most beautiful ornament among all the lands.
7 Pea naʻaku toki pehē ai kiate kinautolu, Liʻaki atu ʻekimoutolu, ʻe he tangata taki taha ʻae ngaahi meʻa fakalielia ʻoku ne sio ki ai, pea ʻoua naʻa fakaʻuli ʻakimoutolu ʻi he ngaahi tamapua ʻo ʻIsipite: Ko au ko Sihova, ko homou ʻOtua.
I said to them, “Let each man throw away the detestable things from before his eyes and the idols of Egypt. Do not make yourselves unclean; I am Yahweh your God.”
But they rebelled against me and were unwilling to listen to me. Each man did not throw away the detestable things from before his eyes nor forsake the idols of Egypt, so I determined to pour out my fury upon them to satisfy my wrath among them in the middle of the land of Egypt.
9 Ka naʻaku ngāue koeʻuhi ko hoku huafa, koeʻuhi ke ʻoua naʻa fakalielia ia ʻi he ʻao ʻoe hiteni, ʻaia naʻa nau nofo ai, ʻakinautolu naʻaku fakahā au ʻi honau ʻao kiate kinautolu, ʻi heʻeku ʻomi ʻakinautolu mei he fonua ko ʻIsipite.
I acted for my name's sake so it would not be profaned in the eyes of the nations among whom they were staying. I made myself known to them, in their eyes, by bringing them out of the land of Egypt.
10 Ko ia naʻaku pehē ai ke nau ʻalu atu mei he fonua ko ʻIsipite, pea u ʻomi ʻakinautolu ki he toafa.
So I sent them out of the land of Egypt and brought them into the wilderness.
11 Pea naʻaku foaki kiate kinautolu ʻeku ngaahi fekau, pea u fakaʻilo kiate kinautolu ʻa hoku finangalo, ʻaia ka fai ʻe he tangata te ne moʻui moʻoni mei ai.
Then I gave them my statutes and made my decrees known to them, by which a man will live if he obeys them.
12 Pea naʻaku foaki foki kiate kinautolu ʻa hoku ngaahi ʻaho tapu, ko e fakaʻilonga kiate kinautolu mo au, ke nau ʻilo ko au ko Sihova, ʻoku fakamāʻoniʻoniʻi ʻakinautolu.
I also gave them my Sabbaths as a sign between myself and them, for them to know that I am Yahweh who makes them holy.
But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness. They did not walk in my statutes; instead, they rejected my decrees, by which a man will live if he obeys them. They greatly profaned my Sabbaths, so I said I would pour out my fury upon them in the wilderness in order to end them.
14 Ka naʻaku ngāue koeʻuhi ko hoku huafa, ke ʻoua naʻa fakalieliaʻi ia ʻi he ʻao ʻoe hiteni, ʻakinautolu naʻaku ʻomi ai ʻakinautolu ʻi honau ʻao.
But I acted for my name's sake so it would not be profaned in the eyes of the nations, in whose sight I had brought them out of Egypt.
15 Kaeʻumaʻā foki, naʻaku hiki hake hoku nima kiate kinautolu ʻi he toafa, koeʻuhi ke u ʻomi ʻakinautolu ki he fonua naʻaku foaki kiate kinautolu ʻoku fetafeaki ai ʻae huʻahuhu mo e hone, ʻaia ko e fungani ʻi he fonua kotoa pē;
So I myself also raised my hand to swear an oath to them in the wilderness not to bring them into the land that I had been going to give them, a land flowing with milk and honey, which was the most beautiful ornament among all the lands.
16 Koeʻuhi naʻa nau paetaku ki hoku finangalo, pea naʻe ʻikai te nau ʻalu ʻi heʻeku ngaahi fekau, ka naʻa nau fakaʻuliʻi hoku ngaahi ʻaho tapu: he naʻe muimui honau loto ki honau ngaahi tamapua.
I swore this because they had rejected my decrees and did not walk in my statutes, and they profaned my Sabbaths, since their hearts walked after their idols.
17 Ka neongo ia, naʻe mamae hoku mata kiate kinautolu, ke ʻoua naʻa fakaʻauha ʻakinautolu, pea naʻe ʻikai te u fakaʻosiʻosi ʻakinautolu ʻi he toafa.
But my eye spared them from their destruction and I did not annihilate them in the wilderness.
18 Ka naʻaku pehē ki heʻenau fānau ʻi he toafa, ʻoua naʻa mou muimui ʻi he ngaahi fekau ʻa hoʻomou ngaahi tamai, pea ʻoua naʻa fai ki honau loto, pe te mou fakalieliaʻi ʻaki ʻakimoutolu ʻa honau ngaahi tamapua;
I said to their children in the wilderness, “Do not walk in the statutes of your fathers, or keep their rules, or defile yourselves with their idols.
19 Ko au ko Sihova ko homou ʻOtua; ʻeveʻeva ʻi heʻeku ngaahi fekau, pea tauhi ki hoku finangalo ke fai ki ai;
I am Yahweh your God, walk in my statutes; keep my decrees and obey them.
20 Pea fakatapui ʻa hoku ngaahi ʻaho tapu; pea ʻe tuku ia ko e fakaʻilonga kiate kimoutolu mo au, koeʻuhi ke mou ʻilo, ko au, ko Sihova, ko homou ʻOtua.
Keep my Sabbaths holy so that they will be a sign between me and you, so that you will know that I am Yahweh your God.”
But their sons and daughters rebelled against me. They did not walk in my statutes or keep my decrees, by which a man might live if he obeys them. They profaned my Sabbaths, so I determined to pour out my fury upon them to satisfy my wrath against them in the wilderness.
But I turned my hand away and acted for my name's sake, so it would not be profaned in the eyes of the nations in whose sight I had brought out the Israelites.
23 Pea naʻaku hiki hake foki ʻa hoku nima kiate kinautolu ʻi he toafa, koeʻuhi ke u fakahēʻi ʻakinautolu ki he lotolotonga ʻoe ngaahi hiteni, pea fakamovetevete ʻakinautolu ki he ngaahi fonua;
I myself also lifted up my hand to swear to them in the wilderness, that I would scatter them among the nations and disperse them among the lands.
24 Koeʻuhi naʻe ʻikai te nau fai hoku finangalo, ka naʻa nau manukiʻi ʻa ʻeku ngaahi fekau, mo nau fakaʻuliʻi ʻa hoku ngaahi ʻaho tapu, pea naʻe muimui ʻa honau mata ki he ngaahi tamapua ʻo ʻenau ngaahi tamai.
I decided to do this since they had not obeyed my decrees, and since they had rejected my statutes and profaned my Sabbaths. Their eyes were longing after their fathers' idols.
25 Ko ia naʻaku tuku kiate kinautolu ʻae ngaahi fekau naʻe ʻikai lelei, mo e tuʻutuʻuni ʻe ʻikai te nau moʻui ai;
Then I also gave them statutes that were not good, and decrees by which they could not live.
26 Pea naʻaku fakalieliaʻi ʻakinautolu ʻi heʻenau ngaahi feilaulau ʻanautolu, ko e meʻa ʻi heʻenau tuku ke ʻalu atu ʻi he afi ʻaia kotoa pē naʻe haʻu mei he manāva, koeʻuhi ke u fakatōkilalo ʻakinautolu, koeʻuhi ke nau ʻilo ko au ko Sihova.
I declared them to be unclean through their gifts—they made a sacrifice of every firstborn of the womb and caused them to pass through the fire—that I might fill them with horror so they will know that I am Yahweh!'
27 “Ko ia, foha ʻoe tangata, lea atu ki he fale ʻo ʻIsileli, pea ke pehē kiate kinautolu, ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova ko e ʻOtua; Ko e moʻoni, ko e meʻa eni kuo takuanoa au ʻe hoʻomou ngaahi tamai, koeʻuhi kuo nau fai ʻae angahala kiate au.
Therefore, son of man, speak to the house of Israel and say to them, 'The Lord Yahweh says this: In this also your fathers blasphemed me when they were unfaithful to me.
28 He naʻe hili ʻeku ʻomi ʻakinautolu ki he fonua, ʻaia naʻaku hiki hake ai hoku nima kiate kinautolu, ke u foaki ia kiate kinautolu, pea nau toki mamata ki hono ngaahi potu māʻolunga kotoa pē, mo e vao ʻakau matolu, pea naʻa nau ʻatu ʻi ai ʻenau ngaahi feilaulau, pea nau fai ʻi ai ʻae fakahouhau ʻi heʻenau ngaahi feilaulau: naʻe ngaohi foki ʻi ai ʻenau fakanamu kakala, ʻonau lilingi ʻi ai ʻenau ngaahi feilaulau inu.
When I brought them into the land that I had sworn to give them, and then whenever they saw any high hill and leafy tree, they offered their sacrifices, they provoked me by their offerings, and there they also burned their fragrant incense and poured out their drink offerings.
29 Pea naʻaku toki lea kiate kinautolu, Ko e hā ʻae potu māʻolunga ko ia, ʻaia ʻoku mou ʻalu ki ai? Pea ʻoku ui ia ko Pama, ʻo aʻu mai ki he ʻaho ni.
Then I said to them, “What is this high place where you bring offerings there?” So the name is called Bamah to this day.'
30 “Ko ia, lea ki he fale ʻo ʻIsileli, ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova ko e ʻOtua; kuo mou fakalielia ʻo hangē ko hoʻomou ngaahi tamai? Pea ʻoku mou fai feʻauaki ʻo hangē ko ʻenau ngaahi fakalielia?
Therefore say to the house of Israel, 'The Lord Yahweh says this: Why do you make yourselves unclean with the ways of your fathers? So why do you act like prostitutes, searching for disgusting things?
31 He ka mou ka ʻatu hoʻomou ngaahi feilaulau, pea ka mou ka tuku ke ʻalu atu ʻi he afi ʻa homou ngaahi foha, ʻoku mou fakalieliaʻi ʻakimoutolu mo homou ngaahi tamapua, ʻo aʻu mai ki he ʻaho ni: pea ʻe fakafehuʻi au ʻekimoutolu, ʻe fale ʻo ʻIsileli? ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova ko e ʻOtua, hangē ʻoku ou moʻui, ʻe ʻikai te u tali haʻamou fakafehuʻi kiate au.
When you offer up your gifts—when you cause your sons to pass through the fire—to this day you defile yourselves with all your idols. So why should I let you seek me, house of Israel? As I live—this is the Lord Yahweh's declaration—I will not allow you to seek me.
32 Pea ko ia ʻoku ʻi homou loto ke fai, ʻe ʻikai ʻaupito hoko ia, ʻaia ʻoku mou lea ʻaki, Te mau hangē ko e hiteni, ʻo hangē ko e ngaahi faʻahinga ʻi he ngaahi fonua, ʻoku tauhi ki he ʻakau mo e maka.
The thought that is forming in your mind will never happen. You say, “Let us be like the other nations, like the clans in the other lands who worship wood and stone.”
33 “ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova ko e ʻOtua, ʻo hangē ʻoku ou moʻui, te u puleʻi moʻoni ʻaki ʻakimoutolu ʻae nima mālohi, pea mo e nima kuo mafao, mo e lilingi atu ʻoe houhau.
As I live—this is the Lord Yahweh's declaration—I will certainly reign over you with a mighty hand, a raised arm, and fury that will be poured out on you.
34 Pea te u ʻomi ʻakimoutolu mei he kakai, pea te u tānaki ʻakimoutolu mei he ngaahi fonua kuo mou he ki ai, ʻaki ʻae nima mālohi mo e nima kuo mafao, pea mo e lilingi atu ʻoe houhau.
I will bring you out from the other peoples and will gather you out of the countries among whom you have been scattered. I will do this with a mighty hand and with fury poured out.
35 Pea te u ʻomi ʻakimoutolu ki he ‘Toafa ʻoe Kakai,’ pea te ta fai mo koe ʻi ai ko e mata ki he mata.
Then I will bring you into the wilderness of the peoples, and there I will judge you face to face.
36 Hangē ko ʻeku fai mo hoʻomou ngaahi tamai ʻi he toafa ʻoe fonua ko ʻIsipite, ʻe pehē ʻa ʻeku fai mo kimoutolu,” ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova ko e ʻOtua.
As I judged your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so also I will judge you—this is the Lord Yahweh's declaration.
37 “Pea te u pule ke mou ʻalu atu ʻi he lolo vaʻa ʻakau, pea te u ʻomi ʻakimoutolu ke mou puke ki heʻeku fuakava:
I will cause you to pass under my rod, and I will make you obey the requirements of the covenant.
38 Pea te u fakamaʻa ʻakimoutolu mei ho kau angatuʻu mo kinautolu ʻoku fai angahala kiate au: Te u ʻomi ʻakinautolu mei he fonua ʻoku nau ʻāunofo ai, pea ʻe ʻikai te nau hū atu ki he fonua ʻo ʻIsileli; pea te mou ʻilo ko Sihova au.
I will purge from among you the rebels and those who revolt against me. I will send them out from the land where they are staying as foreigners, but they will not enter the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am Yahweh.
39 Pea ko e meʻa kiate kimoutolu, ʻe fale ʻo ʻIsileli, ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova ko e ʻOtua; ʻAlu ʻakimoutolu, tauhi taki taha ki hono tamapua, ʻo fai ki mui foki, ʻo kapau ʻe ʻikai te mou fanongo kiate au: kaeʻoua naʻa mou toe fakalieliaʻi ʻa hoku huafa tāpuhā ʻi hoʻomou feilaulau, pea mo homou ngaahi tamapua.
So to you, house of Israel, the Lord Yahweh says this: Each of you should go to his own idols. Worship them if you will refuse to listen to me, but you must no longer profane my holy name with your gifts and your idols.
40 Koeʻuhi ʻe tauhi au ʻe he fale kotoa ʻo ʻIsileli, ʻi hoku moʻunga māʻoniʻoni, ʻi he moʻunga ʻoe māʻolunga ʻo ʻIsileli, ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova ko e ʻOtua: te u maʻu ʻakinautolu ʻi ai, pea te u ʻamanaki ʻi ai ki hoʻomou ngaahi feilaulau, mo e ʻinasi mei hoʻomou meʻa foaki, mo hoʻomou meʻa māʻoniʻoni kotoa pē.
For on my holy mountain, on the mountain peak of Israel—this is the Lord Yahweh's declaration—all of the house of Israel will worship me there in the land. I will be pleased to require your offerings there, and also the firstfruits of your tribute with all your holy things.
41 Te u maʻu ʻakimoutolu mo hoʻomou namu kakala, ʻo kau ka ʻomi ʻakimoutolu mei he kakai, pea tānaki ʻakimoutolu mei he ngaahi fonua ʻaia kuo mou hē ki ai, pea ʻe fakamāʻoniʻoniʻi au ʻiate kimoutolu ʻi he ʻao ʻoe hiteni.
I will accept you like fragrant incense when I bring you out from the peoples and gather you out of the countries where you have been scattered. I will show myself as holy among you for the nations to see.
42 Pea te mou ʻilo ko au ko Sihova, ʻo kau ka toe ʻomi ʻakimoutolu ki he fonua ʻo ʻIsileli, ki he fonua ko ia, naʻaku hiki hake ai hoku nima, ke foaki ia ki hoʻomou ngaahi tamai.
Then, when I bring you to the land of Israel, to the land that I have lifted up my hand to swear to give to your fathers, you will know that I am Yahweh.
43 Pea te mou manatu ʻi ai ki homou ngaahi hala, pea mo hoʻomou faianga, ʻaia kuo mou fakalielia ai; pea te mou fehiʻa kiate kimoutolu ʻi homou ʻao pe ʻomoutolu, koeʻuhi ko e ngaahi kovi ʻaia kuo mou fai.
There you will call to mind your conduct and all of your deeds by which you defiled yourselves, and you will despise yourselves in your own eyes for all your evil deeds that you have done.
So you will know that I am Yahweh when I do this to you because of my name's sake, and not because of your evil deeds, and not because of your corrupt deeds, house of Israel—this is the Lord Yahweh's declaration.'”
Then the word of Yahweh came to me, saying,
46 “Foha ʻoe tangata, fakahanga ho mata ki he feituʻu tonga, pea tuku hoʻo lea ki he feituʻu tonga, pea ke kikite ki he vao ʻakau ʻoe ngoue ʻi he feituʻu tonga;
“Son of man, set your face toward the southern lands, and speak against the south; prophesy against the forest of the Negev.
47 Pea lea ki he vao ʻakau ʻi he feituʻu tonga, Fanongo ki he folofola ʻa Sihova; ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova ko e ʻOtua; Vakai, te u tutu ʻae afi ʻiate koe, pea ʻe maumau ai ʻae ʻakau mata kotoa pē ʻoku ʻiate koe, mo e ʻakau mōmoa kotoa pē; ʻe ʻikai fuʻifuʻi ʻae afi ulo, pea ʻe mangia ai ʻae mata kotoa pē, mei he feituʻu tonga ʻo ʻalu ki he tokelau.
Say to the forest of the Negev, 'This is Yahweh's declaration—the Lord Yahweh says this: See, I will set a fire among you. It will devour every fresh tree and every dried tree among you. The fiery flame will not be quenched; every face from the south to the north will be burned.
48 Pea ʻe mamata ʻe he kakai kotoa pē ko au, ko Sihova, kuo tutu ia; pea ʻe ʻikai fuʻifuʻi ia.”
Then all flesh will see that I am Yahweh when I light the fire, and it will not be quenched.'”
ʻOku nau pehē kiate au, ‘ʻIkai ʻoku lea ia ʻi he fakatātā pe?’”
Then I said, “Alas! Lord Yahweh, they are saying of me, 'Is he not a mere teller of parables?'”
