< ʻIsikieli 17 >

1 Pea naʻe hoko mai ʻae folofola ʻa Sihova kiate au, ʻo pehē,
And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
2 “Foha ʻoe tangata, fai atu ʻae lea fakapulipuli, pea ke lea ʻaki ʻae fakatātā ki he fale ʻo ʻIsileli;
Son of man, put forth a riddle, and propound a parable unto the house of Israel;
And say, Thus hath said the Lord Eternal, The great eagle with large wings, long winged, full of feathers, who is rich in many colors, came unto the Lebanon, and took the highest branch of the cedar:
4 Naʻa ne fesiʻi ʻae lito ʻo hono ngaahi vaʻa toki tupu, ʻo ne ʻave ia ki he fonua faʻa fakatau; naʻa ne tuku ia ʻi he lotolotonga ʻoe kolo ʻae kau fakatau.
The topmost of its young twigs did he crop off, and carry it into the traders' land; and he set it in a city of merchants.
5 Naʻa ne ʻave foki ʻae tenga mei he fonua ʻo tō ia ʻi he potu kelekele moʻui; naʻa ne ʻai ia ki he veʻe vai lahi, ʻo ne tō ia ʻo hangē ko e ʻakau ko e uilou.
And he took some of the seed of the land, and planted it in a fruitful field: he placed it by great waters, he transplanted it among the willow-trees.
6 Pea naʻe tupu ia ʻo hoko ko e vaine pukupuku ka naʻe holoholofa ʻi lalo, pea hanga hono ngaahi vaʻa kiate ia, pea ʻalu ʻi lalo ʻiate ia hono ngaahi aka: ko ia naʻe hoko ai ia ko e vaine, pea naʻe tupu hono ngaahi vaʻa, pea tupu mai hono moto.
And it grew, and became a trailing vine of low stature, the tendrils of which should turn toward him, and the roots of which should be under him: so it became a vine, and brought forth branches, and sent out shoots.
7 Naʻe ʻi ai foki ʻae ʻikale lahi ʻe taha, naʻe kapakau lalahi, pea lahi mo hono fulufulu: pea vakai naʻe mapeʻe atu ʻae aka ʻoe vaine ko eni kiate ia, pea tupu hono ngaahi vaʻa ʻo hanga kiate ia, koeʻuhi ke ne fakaviviku ia mei he tafeʻanga vai ʻi hono ngoueʻanga.
There was also another great eagle with large wings and many feathers: and, behold, this vine did bend its roots famishing toward him, and shot forth its tendrils toward him, that he might water it, from the beds where it was planted;
8 Naʻe tō ia ki he kelekele lelei ʻi he veʻe vai lahi, koeʻuhi kae tupu ai hono ngaahi vaʻa, pea tupu mo hono fua, pea hoko ia ko e vaine lelei.
[Although] it was planted in a good field by great waters, that it might produce boughs, and that it might bear fruit, that it might become an elegant vine.
9 Ka ke lea ʻe koe, ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova ko e ʻOtua; He ʻe tupu lelei ia?
Say now, Thus hath said the Lord Eternal, Shall it prosper? Behold the other will pull up its roots, and its fruit will he cut away, that it may dry up; every one of its growing leaves shall dry up; and not with great power and numerous people [will he have to come] to tear it away from its roots.
10 ‌ʻIo, vakai, kuo tō, ka te ne tupu? ʻE ʻikai, ʻe mātuʻaki mae ʻoka maʻili ki ai ʻae matangi hahake. ʻE mae ia ʻi he ngaahi luo ʻaia naʻe tupu hake ai.
Yea, behold, although it is planted, shall it prosper? Lo, as soon as the east wind toucheth it, shall it be utterly dried up: in the beds where it groweth shall it dry up.
11 Naʻe hoko foki ʻae folofola ʻa Sihova kiate au, ʻo pehē,
And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
12 Ko eni, tala ki he fale angatuʻu, ʻOku ʻikai te mou ʻilo hono ʻuhinga ʻoe ngaahi meʻa ni? Fakahā kiate kinautolu, Vakai kuo haʻu ʻae tuʻi ʻo Papilone ki Selūsalema pea kuo ne ʻave hono tuʻi mo hono houʻeiki, mo ne tataki ʻakinautolu ki Papilone mo ia;
Do now say to the rebellious family, Know ye not what these things mean? Say, Behold, the king of Babylon came to Jerusalem, and took away its king and its princes, and he brought them unto himself to Babylon;
13 Pea kuo ne ʻave ʻae hako ʻoe tuʻi, pea kuo na fefuakavaʻaki mo ia; pea kuo ne ʻave foki mo kinautolu ʻoku mālohi ʻi he fonua.
And he took one of the royal seed, and made a covenant with him, and bound him with an oath; but the mighty of the land did he take away;
14 Koeʻuhi ke holoki ki lalo ʻae puleʻanga, pea ke ʻoua naʻa hakeakiʻi ia ʻiate ia pe, ka koeʻuhi ke fokotuʻu ia ʻi he fai ʻa ʻene fuakava ʻaʻana.
That the kingdom should be debased, so as not to lift itself up; that it should keep his covenant that it might continue to exist.
15 Ka naʻe angatuʻu ia kiate ia, ko e meʻa ʻi heʻene ʻave ʻae kau talafekau ki ʻIsipite, koeʻuhi ke nau ʻomi mei ai ʻae fanga hoosi mo e kakai tokolahi. ʻE monūʻia ia? ʻE hao ia ʻaia ʻoku fai ʻae meʻa pehē? Pe te ne maumau ʻae fuakava pea hao?
But he rebelled against him by sending his messengers into Egypt, that they might give him horses and numerous people. Shall he prosper? shall he escape that doth such things? yea, he hath broken the covenant, and shall he escape?
16 ‌ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova ko e ʻOtua, ʻo hangē ʻoku ou moʻui, ʻi he potu ʻoku nofo ai ʻae tuʻi ko ia ʻaia naʻe fakanofo ia ko e tuʻi, ka naʻa ne manukiʻi ʻena tuki, mo maumauʻi ʻena fuakava, ʻio, ʻe mate ia ʻi he lotolotonga ʻo Papilone mo ia.
As I live, saith the Lord Eternal, surely in the residence of the king that hath made him king, whose oath he hath despised, and whose covenant he hath broken, even near him in the midst of Babylon shall he die.
17 Pea ʻikai kau mo ia ʻi he tau ʻa Felo mo ʻene kautau mālohi, pe ha tokolahi, ʻi he tanu puke mo e langa kolo, ke tāmateʻi ha tokolahi;
And not with a mighty army and a large assembly shall Pharaoh labor for him in the war, when [the other] casteth up mounds, and buildeth works of attack, to cut off many souls.
18 Koeʻuhi naʻa ne manuki ʻae tuki ʻi heʻene maumauʻi ʻae fuakava, kae vakai, naʻa na fepukeaki nima, pea kuo ne fai ʻae ngaahi meʻa ni, ʻe ʻikai ʻaupito te ne hao.”
Yea, he that hath despised the oath by breaking the covenant, when, lo, he had given his hand, and hath done all these things, shall not escape.
19 Ko ia ʻoku pehē ai ʻe Sihova ko e ʻOtua; “Hangē ʻoku ou moʻui, ko ʻeku tuki, ʻaia kuo ne manuki ki ai, pea ko ʻeku fuakava kuo ne maumauʻi, te u totongi ia kiate ia ʻi hono tumuʻaki.
Therefore thus hath said the Lord Eternal, As I live, surely my oath that he hath despised, and my covenant that he hath broken, —even this will I bring upon his own head.
20 Pea te u lafo hoku kupenga kiate ia, pea ʻe moʻua ia ʻi heʻeku tauhele, pea te u ʻomi ia ki Papilone, pea te ma fai ia mo ia ʻi heʻene hia kuo ne fai kovi ai kiate au.
And I will spread my net over him, and he shall be caught in my snare, and I will bring him to Babylon, and will hold judgment with him there for his trespass which he hath committed against me.
21 Pea ko e kau hola kotoa pē mei ai mo hono matatau kotoa pē, ʻe teʻia ʻaki ʻae heletā, pea ko hono toe ʻe vilingia atu ki he feituʻu matangi kotoa pē: pea te mou ʻilo ko au, ko Sihova, kuo folofola ki ai.”
And all his fugitives with all the wings of his army shall fall by the sword, and those that remain shall be dispersed toward all winds: and ye shall know that I the Lord have spoken it.
22 ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova ko e ʻOtua; “Te u toʻo foki ʻae vaʻa ʻoku taupotu ki ʻolunga ʻi he sita māʻolunga, pea te u tō ia; te u fesiʻi mei ʻolunga, mei hono vaʻa toki tupu, ʻae vaʻa ʻoku kei vaivai, pea ʻe tō ia ʻi he moʻunga māʻolunga mo ongoongo:
Thus hath said the Lord Eternal, But I myself will take [a part] of the highest branch of the high cedar, and will preserve it; from the topmost of its young twigs will I crop off a tender one, and I myself will plant it firmly upon a high and eminent mountain:
23 Te u tō ia ʻi he moʻunga māʻolunga ʻo ʻIsileli: pea ʻe tupu hono ngaahi vaʻa, pea ʻe fua ia, pea hoko ko e sita lelei: pea ʻe nofo ʻi lalo ʻi ai ʻae manupuna ʻi he faʻahinga kehekehe kotoa pē: ʻe nofo ʻakinautolu ʻi he malumalu ʻo hono ngaahi vaʻa.
On the mountain of the height of Israel will I plant it firmly; and it shall produce boughs, and bear fruit, and become an elegant cedar; and there shall dwell under it all fowls, every thing that hath wing; in the shadow of its light branches shall they dwell.
24 Pea ʻe ʻilo ʻe he ʻakau kotoa pē ʻoe vao, ko au ko Sihova, kuo u tulaki ki lalo ʻae ʻakau māʻolunga, pea kuo u fokotuʻu ki ʻolunga ʻae ʻakau māʻulalo, kuo u fakamae ʻae ʻakau naʻe maʻuiʻui, pea u ngaohi ke tupu lelei ʻae ʻakau naʻe mōmoa; ko au, ko Sihova kuo folofola, pea ko au kuo fai ki ai.”
And all the trees of the field shall know that I the Lord have made low the high tree, have made high the lowly tree, that I have dried up the green tree, and have caused to flourish the dry tree: I the Lord have spoken and have done it.
