Again the word of the LORD came unto me, saying:

'Son of man, cause Jerusalem to know her abominations,

and say: Thus saith the Lord GOD unto Jerusalem: Thine origin and thy nativity is of the land of the Canaanite; the Amorite was thy father, and thy mother was a Hittite.

And as for thy nativity, in the day thou wast born thy navel was not cut, neither wast thou washed in water for cleansing; thou was not salted at all, nor swaddled at all.

No eye pitied thee, to do any of these unto thee, to have compassion upon thee; but thou wast cast out in the open field in the loathsomeness of thy person, in the day that thou wast born.

And when I passed by thee, and saw thee wallowing in thy blood, I said unto thee: In thy blood, live; yea, I said unto thee: In thy blood, live;

I cause thee to increase, even as the growth of the field. And thou didst increase and grow up, and thou camest to excellent beauty: thy breasts were fashioned, and thy hair was grown; yet thou wast naked and bare.

Now when I passed by thee, and looked upon thee, and, behold, thy time was the time of love, I spread my skirt over thee, and covered thy nakedness; yea, I swore unto thee, and entered into a covenant with thee, saith the Lord GOD, and thou becamest Mine.

Then washed I thee with water; yea, I cleansed away thy blood from thee, and I anointed thee with oil.

I clothed thee also with richly woven work, and shod thee with sealskin, and I wound fine linen about thy head, and covered thee with silk.

I decked thee also with ornaments, and I put bracelets upon thy hands, and a chain on thy neck.

12 Pea naʻaku ʻai ʻae maka mahuʻinga ʻi ho foʻi laʻē, mo e mama ʻi ho telinga, mo e pale lelei ki ho ʻulu.

And I put a ring upon thy nose, and earrings in thine ears, and a beautiful crown upon thy head.

13 Naʻe pehē ʻae teuteu ʻaki koe ʻae koula mo e siliva; naʻe kofuʻaki koe ʻae tupenu lelei mo e silika, mo e tuitui fakasanisani; naʻa ke kai ʻi he mahoaʻa lelei mo e honi, mo e lolo: pea naʻa ke hoihoifua ʻaupito pea naʻa ke tupu lelei ʻo hoko ko e puleʻanga.

Thus wast thou decked with gold and silver; and thy raiment was of fine linen, and silk, and richly woven work; thou didst eat fine flour, and honey, and oil; and thou didst wax exceeding beautiful, and thou wast meet for royal estate.

And thy renown went forth among the nations for thy beauty; for it was perfect, through My splendour which I had put upon thee, saith the Lord GOD.

But thou didst trust in thy beauty and play the harlot because of thy renown, and didst pour out thy harlotries on every one that passed by; his it was.

16 Pea naʻa ke toʻo ho ngaahi kofu pea ne ke teuteu ʻaki ia ho ngaahi potu māʻolunga ʻi he meʻa pule kehekehe, pea naʻa ke fai feʻauaki ʻi ai: pea ʻe ʻikai toe hoko ha meʻa pehē; ʻe ʻikai ʻaupito pehē.

And thou didst take of thy garments, and didst make for thee high places decked with divers colours, and didst play the harlot upon them; the like things shall not come, neither shall it be so.

Thou didst also take thy fair jewels of My gold and of My silver, which I had given thee, and madest for thee images of men, and didst play the harlot with them;

18 Kuo ke fakakofuʻaki ʻakinautolu ho ngaahi kofu fakasanisani: pea kuo ke tuku ʻi honau ʻao ʻa ʻeku lolo mo e meʻa namu kakala ʻaʻaku.

and thou didst take thy richly woven garments and cover them, and didst set Mine oil and Mine incense before them.

19 Ko ʻeku meʻakai foki, ʻaia naʻaku foaki kiate koe, ʻae mahoaʻa lelei, mo e lolo mo e honi, naʻaku fafanga ʻaki koe, naʻa mo ia kuo ke tuku ʻi honau ʻao, ko e meʻa namu kakala.” ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova ko e ʻOtua, naʻe pehē ʻa hono fai.

My bread also which I gave thee, fine flour, and oil, and honey, wherewith I fed thee, thou didst even set it before them for a sweet savour, and thus it was; saith the Lord GOD.

Moreover thou hast taken thy sons and thy daughters, whom thou hast borne unto Me, and these hast thou sacrificed unto them to be devoured. Were thy harlotries a small matter,

21 Kaeʻumaʻā ʻa hoʻo tāmateʻi ʻeku fānau, mo ke tuku ʻakinautolu ke ʻalu atu [ʻi he afi ]maʻanautolu?

that thou hast slain My children, and delivered them up, in setting them apart unto them?

22 Pea ʻi hoʻo ngaahi fakalielia kotoa pē mo hoʻo feʻauaki kotoa pē ʻoku ʻikai te ke manatu ki he ngaahi ʻaho ʻo hoʻo kei siʻi, ʻaia naʻa ke telefua mo masiva ai, pea ke fakalielia ʻi ho toto pe ʻoʻou.”

And in all thine abominations and thy harlotries thou hast not remembered the days of thy youth, when thou wast naked and bare, and wast wallowing in thy blood.

23 Pea naʻe hoko ʻo pehē, “ʻi heʻene hili kotoa pē ʻa hoʻo fai kovi, (Malaʻia, malaʻia kiate koe! ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova ko e ʻOtua; )

And it came to pass after all thy wickedness — woe, woe unto thee! saith the Lord GOD —

that thou hast built unto thee an eminent place, and hast made thee a lofty place in every street.

25 Kuo ke langa ho fale feʻauaki ʻi he tefito hala kotoa pē pea kuo ke ngaohi ho hoihoifua ko e fehiʻanekina, mo ke fakaava ho vaʻe kiate ia kotoa pē naʻe ʻalu ange mo ke fakalahi pe ki hoʻo feʻauaki.

Thou hast built thy lofty place at every head of the way, and hast made thy beauty an abomination, and hast opened thy feet to every one that passed by, and multiplied thy harlotries.

26 Kuo ke fai angahala foki mo ho kaunga nofoʻanga, ko e kakai ʻIsipite ʻoku sino lalahi: pea kuo ke fakalahi ki hoʻo feʻauaki, ko e fakatupu ʻita kiate au.

Thou hast also played the harlot with the Egyptians, thy neighbours, great of flesh; and hast multiplied thy harlotry, to provoke Me.

Behold, therefore I have stretched out My hand over thee, and have diminished thine allowance, and delivered thee unto the will of them that hate thee, the daughters of the Philistines, that are ashamed of thy lewd way.

Thou hast played the harlot also with the Assyrians, without having enough; yea, thou hast played the harlot with them, and yet thou wast not satisfied.

29 Kuo ke fakalahi foki ʻa hoʻo feʻauaki ʻi he fonua ko Kēnani ʻo aʻu ki Kalitia; ka naʻa mo ia naʻe ʻikai te ke fiu ai.”

Thou hast moreover multiplied thy harlotry with the land of traffic, even with Chaldea; and yet thou didst not have enough herewith.

30 “ʻOiauē! ʻAe vaivai ho loto,” ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova ko e ʻOtua, “He kuo ke fai eni kotoa pē, ko e ngāue ʻae fefine faʻa feʻauaki mo fakamofutofuta;

How weak is thy heart, saith the Lord GOD, seeing thou doest all these things, the work of a wanton harlot;

31 Pea ko e meʻa ʻi hoʻo langa ha fale feʻauaki ʻi he tefito hala kotoa pē, pea ngaohi ho potu māʻolunga ʻi he hala kotoa pē, pea ʻoku ʻikai te ke tatau mo e fefine feʻauaki ko e meʻa ʻi hoʻo fehiʻa ki he totongi;

in that thou buildest thine eminent place in the head of every way, and makest thy lofty place in every street; and hast not been as a harlot that enhanceth her hire.

32 Kae hangē ko e uaifi ʻoku tono tangata ʻoku maʻu ʻae kakai kehe ko e fetongi ʻa hono husepāniti!

Thou wife that committest adultery, that takest strangers instead of thy husband —

33 ‌ʻOku foaki totongi ki he kau fefine feʻauaki kotoa pē; ka ko koe kuo ke foaki meʻaʻofa ki ho kau mamana kotoa pē, pea ke totongi kiate kinautolu, ke nau haʻu kiate koe mei he potu kotoa pē ki hoʻo feʻauaki.

to all harlots gifts are given; but thou hast given thy gifts to all thy lovers, and hast bribed them to come unto thee from every side in thy harlotries.

34 Pea ʻoku ke fai kehe koe ʻi hoʻo fai angahala mo e fefine kehe, koeʻuhi ʻoku ʻikai muimui ha niʻihi kiate koe ke fai ʻae angahala; pea ko e meʻa ʻi hoʻo fai ʻe koe ʻae totongi, ka ʻoku ʻikai ha totongi ʻe fai kiate koe, ko ia ʻoku ke kehe ai.”

And the contrary is in thee from other women, in that thou didst solicit to harlotry, and wast not solicited; and in that thou givest hire, and no hire is given unto thee, thus thou art contrary.

35 Ko ia, ʻe fefine feʻauaki, fanongo ki he folofola ʻa Sihova.

Wherefore, O harlot, hear the word of the LORD!

36 ‌ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova ko e ʻOtua; “Koeʻuhi naʻe lilingi atu hoʻo fakalielia, pea fakahā hoʻo telefua, ʻi hoʻo fai angahala mo ho kau mamana, mo e ngaahi tamapua ʻo hoʻo fakalielia, pea mo e toto ʻo hoʻo fānau ʻaia naʻa ke tuku kiate kinautolu:

Thus saith the Lord GOD: Because thy filthiness was poured out, and thy nakedness uncovered through thy harlotries with thy lovers; and because of all the idols of thy abominations, and for the blood of thy children, that thou didst give unto them;

37 Vakai, ko ia foki te u tānaki ai ho kau mamana kotoa pē, ʻakinautolu kuo ke fakafiefia ai koe, mo kinautolu kotoa pē kuo ke ʻofa ki ai, fakataha mo kinautolu kotoa pē kuo ke fehiʻa ki ai; ʻio, te u tānaki fakataha ʻakinautolu kiate koe, pea te u fakahā hoʻo telefua kiate kinautolu koeʻuhi ke nau mamata ki hoʻo telefua kotoa pē.

therefore behold, I will gather all thy lovers, unto whom thou hast been pleasant, and all them that thou hast loved, with all them that thou hast hated; I will even gather them against thee from every side, and will uncover thy nakedness unto them, that they may see all thy nakedness.

38 Pea te u fakamaauʻi koe, ʻo tatau mo e fakamaau ki he kau fefine ʻoku maumau ʻae fakamaʻu mali mo lilingi ʻae toto: pea te u fakainu ʻaki koe ʻae toto ʻi heʻeku houhau mo ʻeku fuaʻa.

And I will judge thee, as women that break wedlock and shed blood are judged; and I will bring upon thee the blood of fury and jealousy.

39 Pea te u tukuange koe foki ki honau nima, pea te nau holoki hifo ho fale ongoongo, ʻo maumauʻi ki lalo ho ngaahi potu māʻolunga: pea te nau haehae foki meiate koe ho ngaahi kofu, mo nau ʻave hoʻo ngaahi meʻa teunga, pea te nau fakatelefuaʻi mo fakamasivaʻi koe.

I will also give thee into their hand, and they shall throw down thine eminent place, and break down thy lofty places; and they shall strip thee of thy clothes, and take thy fair jewels; and they shall leave thee naked and bare.

40 Pea te nau ʻomi mo e niʻihi kiate koe, pea te nau lisingi koe ʻaki ʻae maka, pea tui ʻaki koe ʻenau heletā ke ʻasi.

They shall also bring up an assembly against thee, and they shall stone thee with stones, and thrust thee through with their swords.

41 Pea te nau tuungia ho ngaahi fale, mo nau fai ʻae tautea kiate koe ʻi he ʻao ʻoe kau fefine tokolahi: te u ngaohi koe ke ke tuku hoʻo feʻauaki, pea ʻe ʻikai ʻaupito te ke toe fai ha totongi.

And they shall burn thy houses with fire, and execute judgments upon thee in the sight of many women; and I will cause thee to cease from playing the harlot, and thou shalt also give no hire any more.

42 Ko ia ia ʻe lolou ai ʻa hoku houhau kiate koe, pea ʻe hiki hoku fuaʻa meiate koe, pea te u fiemālie, pea ʻe ʻikai te u toe ʻita.

So will I satisfy My fury upon thee, and My jealousy shall depart from thee, and I will be quiet, and will be no more angry.

43 Koeʻuhi ʻoku ʻikai te ke manatuʻi ʻae ngaahi ʻaho ʻo hoʻo kei siʻi, ka kuo ke fakamataliliʻi au ʻi he ngaahi meʻa ni kotoa pē, ko ia, vakai, te u fakahoko ki ho tumuʻaki hono nunuʻa ʻo hoʻo faianga, ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova ko e ʻOtua: pea ʻe ʻikai te ke fakalahi ʻaki hoʻo ngaahi fakalielia kotoa pē ʻa hoʻo fai ʻae fakalielia ko eni.”

Because thou hast not remembered the days of thy youth, but hast fretted Me in all these things; lo, therefore I also will bring thy way upon thy head, saith the Lord GOD; or hast thou not committed this lewdness above all thine abominations?

Behold, every one that useth proverbs shall use this proverb against thee, saying: As the mother, so her daughter.

45 Ko e taʻahine koe ʻa hoʻo faʻē, ʻaia ʻoku fehiʻa ki hono husepāniti mo ʻene fānau; pea ko e tehina koe ʻo ho ngaahi tokoua, ʻakinautolu naʻe fehiʻa ki honau husepāniti mo ʻenau fānau: ko hoʻo faʻē ko e [fefine ]Heti, pea ko hoʻo tamai ko e [tangata ]ʻAmoli ia.

Thou art thy mother's daughter, that loatheth her husband and her children; and thou art the sister of thy sisters, who loathed their husbands and their children; your mother was a Hittite, and your father an Amorite.

46 Pea ko ho taʻokete ko Samēlia ia, ʻaia mo ʻene fānau fefine, ʻoku nofo ʻi ho nima toʻohema: pea ko ho tehina, ʻaia ʻoku nofo ʻi ho nima toʻomataʻu, ko Sotoma ia mo ʻene fānau fefine.

And thine elder sister is Samaria, that dwelleth at thy left hand, she and her daughters; and thy younger sister, that dwelleth at thy right hand, is Sodom and her daughters.

47 Ka naʻe ʻikai te ke ʻeveʻeva koe ʻi honau hala, pe fai ʻo hangē ko ʻenau ngaahi fakalielia: kae hangē naʻe siʻi ʻaupito haʻanautolu, ka kuo ke fai fakalielia lahi hake ʻaupito koe ʻiate kinautolu, ʻi hoʻo anga kotoa pē.”

Yet hast thou not walked in their ways, nor done after their abominations; but in a very little while thou didst deal more corruptly than they in all thy ways.

48 ‌ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova ko e ʻOtua, “ʻO hangē ʻoku ou moʻui, naʻe ʻikai fai ʻe ho tehina ko Sotoma, ʻa ia, pe ko ʻene fānau fefine, ʻo tatau mo ia kuo ke fai ʻe koe, ʻa koe, mo hoʻo kau taʻahine.

As I live, saith the Lord GOD, Sodom thy sister hath not done, she nor her daughters, as thou hast done, thou and thy daughters.

Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom: pride, fulness of bread, and careless ease was in her and in her daughters; neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.

50 Pea naʻa nau fielahi, mo nau fai fakalielia ʻi hoku ʻao; ko ia naʻaku faʻiteliha pe au ʻo ʻave ai ʻakinautolu.

And they were haughty, and committed abomination before Me; therefore I removed them when I saw it.

51 Pea naʻa mo Samēlia, ʻoku ʻikai te ne fai hala ʻe ia ke tatau mo e vaeua haʻau; he kuo ke fakatupu hoʻo ngaahi fakalielia ke lahi hake ʻiate kinautolu, pea kuo tonuhia ange ʻiate koe, ʻa ho ngaahi tokoua, ʻi hoʻo ngaahi fakalielia, ʻaia kuo ke fai ʻe koe.

Neither hath Samaria committed even half of thy sins; but thou hast multiplied thine abominations more than they, and hast justified thy sisters by all thine abominations which thou hast done.

52 ‌ʻA koe foki, kuo ke fakaanga ki ho ngaahi tokoua, fua pe ʻe koe, ʻa hoʻo mā ʻaʻau, ʻi hoʻo ngaahi angahala kuo ke fai fakalielia lahi ai ʻiate kinautolu: ʻoku nau māʻoniʻoni hake ʻiate koe: ʻio, ke ke puputuʻu koe, pea ke fua hoʻo mā, ko e meʻa ʻi hoʻo fakatonuhiaʻi ho ngaahi tokoua.

Thou also, bear thine own shame, in that thou hast given judgment for thy sisters; through thy sins that thou hast committed more abominable than they, they are more righteous than thou; yea, be thou also confounded, and bear thy shame, in that thou hast justified thy sisters.

53 ‌ʻO kau ka toe ʻomi mei he pōpula, ʻae kau pōpula ʻo Sotoma mo ʻene fānau fefine, mo e pōpula ʻo Samēlia mo ʻene fānau fefine ʻaʻana, te u toki ʻomi ʻae pōpula ʻi hoʻo kau pōpula ki honau lotolotonga:

And I will turn their captivity, the captivity of Sodom and her daughters, and the captivity of Samaria and her daughters, and the captivity of thy captives in the midst of them;

54 Koeʻuhi ke ke fua ʻe koe pe ʻa hoʻo mā, pea ke puputuʻu ʻi he meʻa kotoa pē kuo ke fai, koeʻuhi ko hoʻo fakafiemālieʻi ʻakinautolu.

that thou mayest bear thine own shame, and mayest be ashamed because of all that thou hast done, in that thou art a comfort unto them.

55 ‌ʻOka toe liliu mai ʻa Sotoma mo ʻene fānau fefine ki heʻenau nofo muʻa, pea liliu ʻa Samēlia mo ʻene fānau fefine ki heʻenau muʻaki nofo, ʻe toki liliu ai koe mo hoʻo fānau fefine ki hoʻomou nofo muʻa ʻamoutolu.

And thy sisters, Sodom and her daughters, shall return to their former estate, and Samaria and her daughters shall return to their former estate, and thou and thy daughters shall return to your former estate.

56 He naʻe ʻikai te ke meimei lea ʻaki mei ho ngutu, ʻa ho taʻokete ko Samēlia, ʻi he ʻaho ʻo hoʻo fielahi,

For thy sister Sodom was not mentioned by thy mouth in the day of thy pride;

Then shalt thou remember thy ways, and be ashamed, when thou shalt receive thy sisters, thine elder sisters and thy younger; and I will give them unto thee for daughters, but not because of thy covenant.

that thou mayest remember, and be confounded, and never open thy mouth any more, because of thy shame; when I have forgiven thee all that thou hast done, saith the Lord GOD.'
