1 “Fanongo, ʻE ʻIsileli: ʻoku ke ʻalu he ʻaho ni ki he kauvai ʻe taha ʻo Sioatani, ke ʻalu ke maʻu ʻae ngaahi puleʻanga ʻoku lahi hake mo mālohi lahi ʻiate koe, ʻae ngaahi kolo ʻoku lahi, mo mole ki langi ʻa honau ʻā.
Hear, Israel: you are to pass over the Jordan this day, to go in to dispossess nations greater and mightier than yourself, cities great and fortified up to the sky,
2 Ko e kakai lalahi mo lōloa, ko e fānau ʻae kau ʻAnaki ʻakinautolu ʻoku ke ʻiloʻi, pea kuo ke fanongo ʻae lau ki ai, ʻo pehē, Ko hai ʻe faʻa tuʻu ʻi he ʻao ʻoe fānau ʻa ʻAnaki!
a people great and tall, the sons of the Anakim, whom you know, and of whom you have heard say, "Who can stand before the sons of Anak?"
3 Ko ia ke ke ʻilo he ʻaho ni, ko Sihova ko ho ʻOtua ko ia ia ʻoku ʻalu muʻomuʻa ʻiate koe; hangē ko e afi fakaʻauha te ne fakaʻauha ʻakinautolu, pea ʻe tulaki hifo ʻe ia ʻakinautolu ʻi ho ʻao: ko ia te ke kapusi ai ʻakinautolu kituʻa, ʻo fakaʻauha vave ʻakinautolu, ʻo hangē ko e folofola ʻa Sihova kiate koe.
Know therefore this day, that the LORD your God is he who goes over before you as a devouring fire; he will destroy them, and he will bring them down before you: so you shall drive them out, and make them to perish quickly, as the LORD has spoken to you.
4 ‌ʻOua naʻa ke lea ʻe koe ʻi ho loto, ʻoka hili hono kapusi kituʻa ʻakinautolu ʻe Sihova ko ho ʻOtua mei ho ʻao, ʻo pehē, Ko e meʻa ʻi heʻeku māʻoniʻoni ko ia kuo ʻomi ai au ʻe Sihova ke u maʻu ʻae fonua ni: ka ko e meʻa ʻi he angakovi ʻoe ngaahi puleʻanga ni, ko ia ʻoku kapusi ai ʻe Sihova ʻakinautolu kituʻa mei ho ʻao.
Do not say in your heart, after the LORD your God has thrust them out from before you, saying, "For my righteousness the LORD has brought me in to possess this land"; because the LORD drives them out before you because of the wickedness of these nations.
5 ‌ʻOku ʻikai ko e meʻa ʻi hoʻo māʻoniʻoni, pe ʻi he angatonu ʻo ho loto, ʻoku ke ʻalu ke maʻu honau fonua: ka ko e meʻa ʻi he angakovi ʻoe ngaahi puleʻanga ni ko ia ʻoku kapusi ai kituʻa ʻakinautolu ʻe Sihova ko ho ʻOtua mei ho ʻao, pea koeʻuhi ke ne fakamoʻoni ki he folofola ʻaia naʻe fuakava ai ʻa Sihova ki hoʻo ngaahi tamai, ko ʻEpalahame, mo ʻAisake, mo Sēkope.
Not for your righteousness, or for the uprightness of your heart, do you go in to possess their land; but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD does drive them out from before you, and that he may establish the word which he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.
6 Ko ia ke ke ʻilo, ʻoku ʻikai foaki ʻe Sihova ko ho ʻOtua ʻae fonua lelei ni kiate koe ke ke maʻu ia ʻi hoʻo māʻoniʻoni: he ko e kakai kia kekeva ʻakimoutolu.
Know therefore, that the LORD your God doesn't give you this good land to possess it for your righteousness; for you are a stiff-necked people.
7 “Ke ke manatu, pea ʻoua naʻa fakangalongaloʻi, ʻa hoʻo fakatupu ʻae houhau ʻo Sihova ko ho ʻOtua ʻi he toafa: talu ʻae ʻaho naʻa ke hiki ai mei he fonua ko ʻIsipite, ʻo aʻu ki hoʻomou hoko ki he potu ni, kuo mou fai angatuʻu kia Sihova.
Remember, do not forget, how you provoked the LORD your God to wrath in the wilderness: from the day that you went forth out of the land of Egypt, until you came to this place, you have been rebellious against the LORD.
8 Pea ʻi Holepi foki naʻa mou fakatupu ʻae houhau ʻo Sihova, ko ia naʻe houhau ai ʻa Sihova kiate kimoutolu ke fakaʻauha ʻakimoutolu.
Also in Horeb you provoked the LORD to wrath, and the LORD was angry with you to destroy you.
9 ‌ʻI heʻeku ʻalu hake ki he moʻunga ke maʻu ʻae ongo maka lafalafa, ʻae ongo maka ʻoe fuakava ʻaia naʻe fai ʻe Sihova mo kimoutolu, pea ne u nofo ʻi he moʻunga ʻi he ʻaho ʻe fāngofulu mo e pō ʻe fāngofulu, naʻe ʻikai te u kai mā pe inu vai:
When I was gone up onto the mountain to receive the tablets of stone, even the tablets of the covenant which the LORD made with you, then I stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights; I neither ate bread nor drank water.
10 Pea naʻe tuku mai kiate au ʻe Sihova ʻae ongo maka lafalafa kuo tohi ʻaki ʻae louhiʻi nima ʻoe ʻOtua; pea naʻe tohi ʻi ai ʻo fakatatau ki he ngaahi lea kotoa pē ʻaia naʻe folofola ai ʻa Sihova kiate kimoutolu ʻi he moʻunga mei he lotolotonga ʻoe afi ʻi he ʻaho ʻae fakataha.
The LORD delivered to me the two tablets of stone written with the finger of God; and on them were all the words which the LORD spoke with you on the mountain out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly.
11 Pea hili ʻae ʻaho ʻe fāngofulu mo e pō ʻe fāngofulu, naʻe hoko ʻo pehē, naʻe tuku mai kiate au ʻe Sihova ʻae ongo maka lafalafa, ʻio, ʻae ongo maka lafalafa ʻoe fuakava.
It came to pass at the end of forty days and forty nights, that the LORD gave me the two tablets of stone, even the tablets of the covenant.
12 Pea naʻe folofola ʻa Sihova kiate au, ‘Tuʻu hake pea ke ʻalu vave hifo mei heni; he ko ho kakai ʻaia kuo ke ʻomi kituʻa mei ʻIsipite kuo nau fakahalaʻi ʻakinautolu; kuo nau tafoki leva mei he hala ʻaia naʻaku fekau ai ʻakinautolu; kuo nau ngaohi maʻanautolu ʻae meʻa fakatātā kuo haka.’
The LORD said to me, "Arise, get down quickly from here; for your people whom you have brought out of Egypt have corrupted themselves; they have quickly turned aside out of the way which I commanded them; they have made them a molten image."
13 Pea naʻe folofola ʻa Sihova kiate au foki, ʻo pehē, ‘Kuo u mamata ki he kakai ni, pea vakai, ko e kakai kia kekeva ʻakinautolu:
Furthermore the LORD spoke to me, saying, "I have seen this people, and look, it is a stiff-necked people:
14 Tuku ai pe au, koeʻuhi ke u fakaʻauha ʻakinautolu, pea tāmateʻi honau hingoa mei he lalo langi: pea te u fakatupu ʻiate koe ha hako mālohi mo lahi hake ʻiate kinautolu.’
let me alone, that I may destroy them, and blot out their name from under the sky; and I will make of you a nation mightier and greater than they."
15 Pea naʻaku tafoki ʻo ʻalu hifo ai mei he moʻunga, pea naʻe vela ʻae moʻunga ʻi he afi: pea naʻe ʻi hoku nima ʻae ongo maka lafalafa ʻoe fuakava.
So I turned and came down from the mountain, and the mountain was burning with fire: and the two tablets of the covenant were in my two hands.
16 Pea naʻaku sio, pea vakai, kuo mou fai angahala kia Sihova ko homou ʻOtua, pea kuo mou ngaohi ha fakatātā haka ki he pulu mui: ne mou tafoki vave mei he hala ʻaia naʻe fekau ʻe Sihova kiate kimoutolu.
I looked, and look, you had sinned against the LORD your God; you had made yourselves a molten calf: you had turned aside quickly out of the way which the LORD had commanded you.
17 Pea naʻaku ʻave ʻae ongo maka lafalafa ʻo lī ia mei hoku ongo nima pea naʻe maumau ia ʻi homou ʻao.
I took hold of the two tablets, and cast them out of my two hands, and broke them before your eyes.
18 Pea naʻaku fakafoʻohifo ʻi he ʻao ʻo Sihova, ʻo hangē ko [ʻeku ]muʻaki fai, ʻi he ʻaho ʻe fāngofulu mo e pō ʻe fāngofulu: naʻe ʻikai te u kai ha mā, pe inu ha vai, ko e meʻa ʻi hoʻomou ngaahi angahala ʻaia naʻa mou angahala ai, ʻi he fai kovi ʻi he ʻao ʻo Sihova, ke fakatupu hono houhau.
I fell down before the LORD, as at the first, forty days and forty nights; I neither ate bread nor drank water; because of all your sin which you sinned, in doing that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.
19 He naʻaku manavahē ʻi he houhau pea ʻi he houhau vela, ʻaia naʻe houhau ʻaki ʻe Sihova kiate kimoutolu ke fakaʻauha ʻakimoutolu. Ka naʻe tokanga ʻa Sihova kiate au ʻi he kuonga ko ia foki.
For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure, with which the LORD was angry against you to destroy you. But the LORD listened to me that time also.
20 Pea naʻe houhau lahi ʻa Sihova kia ʻElone ke fakaʻauha ia: pea naʻaku lotua ʻa ʻElone foki ʻi he kuonga ko ia.
The LORD was very angry with Aaron to destroy him: and I prayed for Aaron also at the same time.
21 Pea ne u ʻave hoʻomou angahala, ko e ʻuhiki pulu naʻa mou ngaohi, pea tutu ia ʻaki ʻae afi, pea malamalaki ia, peau momomomosi ia ke iiki ʻaupito, ʻo tatau mo e efuefu: pea naʻaku lī ʻa hono efuefu ki he vaitafe naʻe ʻalu hifo mei he moʻunga.
I took your sin, the calf which you had made, and burnt it with fire, and stamped it, grinding it very small, until it was as fine as dust: and I cast its dust into the brook that descended out of the mountain.
22 Pea ʻi Tapela, mo Masa, pea ʻi Kipiloti-Hateva, naʻa mou fakatupu ʻae houhau ʻo Sihova.
At Taberah, and at Massah, and at Kibroth Hattaavah, you provoked the LORD to wrath.
When the LORD sent you from Kadesh Barnea, saying, "Go up and possess the land which I have given you"; then you rebelled against the commandment of the LORD your God, and you did not believe him, nor listen to his voice.
24 Kuo mou angatuʻu kia Sihova talu mei he ʻaho naʻaku ʻilo ai ʻakimoutolu.
You have been rebellious against the LORD from the day that I knew you.
25 Naʻe pehē pe ʻa ʻeku fakatōmapeʻe au ʻi he ʻao ʻo Sihova ʻi he ʻaho ʻe fāngofulu mo e pō ʻe fāngofulu, ʻo hangē ko ʻeku tomuʻa fai ia; ko e meʻa ʻi he pehē ʻe Sihova te ne fakaʻauha ʻakimoutolu.
So I fell down before the LORD the forty days and forty nights that I fell down, because the LORD had said he would destroy you.
26 Ko ia ne u lotu ai kia Sihova, ʻo pehē, ‘ʻE Sihova ko e ʻOtua, ʻoua naʻa ke fakaʻauha ho kakai mo ho tofiʻa, ʻaia kuo ke huhuʻi ʻi hoʻo māfimafi, ʻaia kuo ke ʻomi mei ʻIsipite ʻaki ʻae nima mālohi.
I prayed to God, and said, "Lord GOD, do not destroy your people and your inheritance, that you have redeemed through your greatness, that you have brought out of Egypt with a mighty hand.
27 Manatu ki hoʻo kau tamaioʻeiki, ko ʻEpalahame, mo ʻAisake, mo Sēkope; ʻoua naʻa ke ʻafio ki he talangataʻa ʻae kakai ni, pe ki heʻenau angakovi, pe ko ʻenau angahala:
Remember your servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; do not look to the stubbornness of this people, nor to their wickedness, nor to their sin,
28 Telia naʻa lau pehē ʻe he fonua naʻa ke ʻomi ʻakimautolu mei ai, Ko e meʻa ʻi he ʻikai mafai ʻe Sihova ke ʻomi ʻakinautolu ki he fonua ʻaia naʻa ne talaʻofa kiate kinautolu, pea ko e meʻa ʻi heʻene ʻita kiate kinautolu, ko ia kuo ne ʻomi ai ʻakinautolu kituaʻā ke tāmateʻi ʻakinautolu ʻi he toafa.
lest the land you brought us out from say, 'Because the LORD was not able to bring them into the land which he promised to them, and because he hated them, he has brought them out to kill them in the wilderness.'
29 Ka ko e moʻoni ko ho kakai ʻakinautolu mo ho tofiʻa, ʻaia naʻa ke ʻomi kituaʻā ʻi ho mālohi lahi pea ʻi ho nima kuo mafao.’
Yet they are your people and your inheritance, which you brought out by your great power and by your outstretched arm."
