< Teutalonome 13 >
1 “Kapau ʻoku tupu hake meiate kimoutolu ha taha ʻoku kikite, pe ko e tokotaha ʻoku misi ʻae ngaahi misi, pea tuku kiate koe ha fakaʻilonga pe ha meʻa fakaofo,
“Possibly there will be people among you who [say that they] are prophets. They may say that they are able to interpret the meaning of dreams or perform various kinds of miracles [DOU].
2 Pea ʻe hoko ʻae fakaʻilonga pe ko e meʻa fakaofo ʻaia naʻa ne lea ki ai, pea pehē ʻe ia, Ketau ʻalu ʻo muimui ʻi he ngaahi ʻotua kehe, ʻaia naʻe ʻikai te ke ʻilo, pea ketau tauhi ʻakinautolu;
They will say those things in order to induce/persuade you to worship gods that you have never known about before. But even if what they predict happens,
3 ʻOua naʻa ke tokanga ki he lea ʻae kikite ko ia, pe ko e tokotaha ko ia ʻoku misi ʻae ngaahi misi: he ʻoku ʻahiʻahiʻi ʻakimoutolu ʻe Sihova ko homou ʻOtua, ke ʻilo pe te mou ʻofa kia Sihova ko homou ʻOtua ʻaki homou loto kotoa mo homou laumālie kotoa:
do not pay attention to what they say. Yahweh our God will be testing you to find out if you love him with all your inner being.
4 Ke mou muimui ʻia Sihova ko homou ʻOtua, pea manavahē kiate ia, pea tauhi ʻene ngaahi fekau, pea fai talangofua ki hono leʻo, pea ke mou tauhi ia, pea pikitai kiate ia.
You must conduct your lives as Yahweh our God wants you to, and you must revere him, and do what he tells you to do [MTY], and worship only him, and (be faithful to/have a close relationship with) him.
5 Pea ko e kikite ko ia, pe ko e tokotaha ʻoku misi ʻae ngaahi misi ko ia, ʻe tāmateʻi ia; ko e meʻa ʻi heʻene lea ke fakatafoki ʻakimoutolu meia Sihova ko homou ʻOtua, ʻaia naʻa ne ʻomi ʻakimoutolu mei he fonua ko ʻIsipite, ʻo ne huhuʻi ʻakimoutolu mei he fale fakapōpula, ke fakahēʻi koe mei he hala ʻaia naʻe fekau ʻe Sihova ko ho ʻOtua ke ke ʻalu ai. Pea ʻe pehē pe hoʻo tukuange ʻae kovi meiate koe.
“But you must execute anyone who [falsely says that he] is a prophet, or someone who [falsely] says that he can interpret dreams, or who tells you to rebel against Yahweh our God, who rescued your ancestors from being slaves in Egypt. People like that are only wanting to cause you to stop conducting your lives as Yahweh has commanded you to do. Execute them, to get rid of this evil among you.
6 “Kapau ʻoku fakahekeheke fakafufū kiate koe ʻe ho tokoua, ko e tama ʻa hoʻo faʻē, pē ko ho foha, pē ko ho ʻofefine, pē ko e uaifi ʻo ho fatafata, pe ko ho kaumeʻa ʻaia ʻoku tatau mo ho laumālie ʻoʻou, ʻo pehē, ‘Ke ta ō ʻo tauhi ʻotua kehe,’ ʻaia naʻe ʻikai te ke ʻiloʻi, ʻe koe, pe ʻe hoʻo ngaahi tamai;
It does not matter if even your brother or your daughter or your wife or some close/dear friend secretly urges you, saying ‘Let’s worship other gods. They are gods which you or your ancestors have never known about.
7 ʻI he ngaahi ʻotua ʻoe kakai ʻaia ʻoku nofo takatakai ʻiate kimoutolu pe ʻoku [nau ]ofi kiate koe, pe ʻoku mamaʻo atu ʻiate koe, mei he ngataʻanga ʻe taha ʻo māmani ʻo aʻu atu ki he ngataʻanga ʻe taha;
Some of them may encourage you to worship gods that people-groups that live near you worship, or gods that groups who live far away worship.
8 ʻOua naʻa ke tui kiate ia, pe fie tokanga ki ai; pea ke ʻoua naʻa ʻofa ho mata kiate ia, pea ʻoua naʻa ke mamae ki ai, pea ʻoua naʻa ke fufū ia:
Do not [SYN] do what they suggest. Do not even listen to them. Do not even be merciful to them, and do not keep secret what they have done.
9 Ka ke tāmateʻi moʻoni ia; ʻe tomuʻa hoko ho nima kiate ia ke tāmateʻi ia, pea toki hoko ki ai ʻae nima ʻoe kakai kotoa pē.
Execute them! You [who are their relative] must be the first one to [throw stones at them to] kill them, and then let everyone else [MTY] throw stones at them, too.
10 Pea te ke tolongaki ʻaki ia ʻae maka, ke ne mate; ko e meʻa ʻi heʻene ʻahiʻahi ke fakahēʻi koe meia Sihova ko ho ʻOtua, ʻaia naʻa ne ʻomi koe mei he fonua ko ʻIsipite, mei he fale ʻoe pōpula.
Kill such people by throwing stones at them, because they are trying to cause you to stop worshiping Yahweh our God, who rescued your ancestors from being slaves in Egypt.
11 Pea ʻe fanongo ki ai ʻa ʻIsileli kotoa pē, pea manavahē, pea ʻe ʻikai toe fai ha angakovi pehē ʻiate kimoutolu.
When they are executed, all the Israeli people will hear [what happened], and they will become afraid, and none of them will do such an evil thing again.
12 “Kapau te ke fanongo ki he talanoa ʻi ha kolo ʻe taha, ʻaia kuo foaki ʻe Sihova kiate koe ke ke nofo ai, ʻo pehē,
“When you are living in one of the towns in the land that Yahweh our God is giving to you, you may hear
13 Ko e kau tangata niʻihi, ko e fānau ʻae kovi, kuo ʻalu ʻiate kimoutolu, pea kuo nau fakahēʻi ʻae kakai ʻo ʻenau kolo, ʻo pehē, ‘Ke tau ō ʻo tauhi ʻae ngaahi ʻotua kehe,’ ʻaia naʻe ʻikai te mou ʻilo;
that some worthless people there among you [IDM] are deceiving the people of their town, saying, ‘Let’s go and worship other gods,’ but they are gods that you have never heard about before.
14 Te ke toki fehuʻi koe, ʻo faʻa ʻeke, fehuʻi fakapapau; pea vakai, kapau ʻoku moʻoni, pea kuo pau ʻaupito ʻae meʻa ko ia pea kuo fai ʻae meʻa kovi lahi ko ia ʻiate kimoutolu;
Investigate it thoroughly/carefully. If [you find out that] it is true that such a disgraceful thing has happened,
15 Ko e moʻoni te ke teʻia ʻae kakai ʻoe kolo ko ia ʻaki ʻae mata ʻoe heletā, ʻo fakaʻauha ʻaupito ia, mo ia kotoa pē ʻoku ʻi ai, mo e ngaahi fanga manu ʻoku ʻi ai, ʻaki ʻae mata ʻoe heletā.
kill all the people in that town. And kill all their livestock, too. Destroy the town completely.
16 Pea te ke tānaki hono vete kotoa pē ki he loto hala motuʻa, pea ke tutu ʻaki ʻae afi ʻae kolo ko ia, pea mo e vete kotoa pē ʻo ia, koeʻuhi ko Sihova ko ho ʻOtua: ka ʻe hoko ia ko e tafungofunga pe ʻo taʻengata; ʻe ʻikai toe langa ia.
Gather all the possessions that belonged to the people who lived there and pile them up in the city plaza. Then burn the town and everything in it, as though it were an offering to Yahweh that would be completely burned [on the altar]. The ruins/ashes must stay there forever; the town must never be rebuilt.
17 “Pea ke ʻoua naʻa hiki ki homou nima ha meʻa siʻi ʻi he ngaahi meʻa fakamalaʻia, koeʻuhi ke tafoki ʻa Sihova mei hono lahi fau ʻo hono houhau, pea fakahā ʻae ʻaloʻofa kiate koe, pea manavaʻofa kiate koe, pea fakatokolahi koe, ʻo hangē ko ʻene fuakava ki hoʻo ngaahi tamai;
None of you Israelis must take for yourselves [IDM] anything that Yahweh has said must be destroyed. But if you do what I say, Yahweh will stop being angry with you, and he will act mercifully toward you. And he will cause you to have many children/descendants, which is what he promised our ancestors that he would do.
18 ʻOka ke ka tokanga ki he leʻo ʻo Sihova ko ho ʻOtua, ke tauhi ʻene ngaahi fekau kotoa pē ʻaia ʻoku ou fekau kiate koe he ʻaho ni, ke fai ʻaia ʻoku totonu ʻi he ʻao ʻo Sihova ko ho ʻOtua.
Yahweh our God will do all those things if you do what he is telling you to do, and if you obey all the commandments that I am giving to you today and do what Yahweh says is right [for you to do].”
