1 Naʻe ngaohi ʻe Nepukanesa ko e tuʻi ha meʻa fakatātā koula, ʻaia naʻe teau ma uofulu ʻae hanga ʻo hono māʻolunga, pea ko hono māukupu ko e hanga ʻe hongofulu ma ua; naʻa ne fokotuʻu ia ʻi he toafa ʻo Tula ʻi he vahe fonua ʻo Papilone.
King Nebuchadnezzar made an image of gold, the height of which was sixty cubits, and the breadth of which was six cubits: he set it up in the valley of Dura, in the province of Babylon.
2 Pea naʻe fekau ʻe Nepukanesa, ke fakataha ʻae houʻeiki hau mo e ngaahi pule, mo e ngaahi ʻeikitau, mo e ngaahi houʻeiki, mo e kau pule koloa, mo e kau tangata fakamatala fono, mo e kau fakamaau, pea mo e kau pule kotoa pē ʻoe ngaahi fonua, ke nau haʻu ki he fakatapui ʻoe meʻa fakatātā ʻaia naʻe fokotuʻu ʻe he tuʻi ko Nepukanesa.
And king Nebuchadnezzar sent to assemble [his] lieutenants, the superintendents, and the governors, the judges, the treasurers, the counsellors, those learned in the law, and all the rulers of the provinces, to come to the dedication of the image which king Nebuchadnezzar had set up.
3 Ko ia naʻe fakataha ai ʻae houʻeiki hau, mo e ngaahi pule, mo e ngaahi ʻeikitau, mo e houʻeiki mo e kau pule koloa, mo e kau fakamatala fono, mo e kau fakamaau, pea mo e kau pule ʻoe ngaahi fonua, ki he fakatapui ʻoe meʻa fakatātā ʻaia naʻe fokotuʻu ʻe he tuʻi ko Nepukanesa; pea naʻa nau tuʻu ʻi he ʻao ʻoe meʻa fakatātā ʻaia naʻe fokotuʻu ʻe Nepukanesa.
Thereupon were assembled the lieutenants, the superintendents, and the governors, the judges, the treasurers, the counsellors, those learned in the law, and all the rulers of the provinces unto the dedication of the image that king Nebuchadnezzar had set up; and they stood opposite to the image that Nebuchadnezzar had set up.
4 Pea naʻe kalanga mālohi ʻae tangata fekau; “ʻOku fekau kiate kimoutolu, ʻae kakai mo e ngaahi puleʻanga mo e kakai ʻi he lea kehekehe;
Then a herald called out with a loud voice, To you it is commanded, O people, nations, and languages,
5 ʻoka mou ka fanongo ki he leʻo ʻoe koaneti, mo e fangufangu, ʻae haʻape mo e sakipute, ʻae saliteli mo e lali, mo e ngaahi meʻa hiva kehekehe kotoa pē, te mou punou hifo, mo hū ki he meʻa fakatātā ʻaia kuo fokotuʻu ʻe he tuʻi ko Nepukanesa;
That at the time when ye do hear the sound of the cornet, flute, guitar, harp, psaltery, bagpipe, and all kinds of music, ye shall fall down and bow yourselves to the golden image which king Nebuchadnezzar hath set up:
6 Pea ko ia ʻe ʻikai punou mo hū, ʻe lī ia ʻi he feituʻulaʻā ko ia ki he loto afi vela kakaha.”
And whoso doth not fall down and bow himself shall in the same hour be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.
7 Ko ia ʻi he feituʻulaʻā ko ia, ʻi he fanongo ʻae kakai kotoa pē ki he leʻo ʻoe koaneti mo e fangufangu, ʻae haʻape, mo e sakipute, ʻae saliteli, pea mo e ngaahi meʻa hiva kehekehe kotoa pē, naʻe punou hifo ʻo hū ʻae kakai kotoa pē, ʻae ngaahi puleʻanga, pea mo e ngaahi lea, ki he meʻa fakatātā koula ʻaia naʻe fokotuʻu ʻe he tuʻi ko Nepukanesa.
Therefore at the same time, when all the people heard the sound of the cornet, flute, guitar, harp, psaltery, and all kinds of music, all the people, the nations, and the languages fell down bowing themselves to the golden image which king Nebuchadnezzar had set up.
8 Pea ʻi he ʻaho ko ia naʻe ʻunuʻunu atu ha niʻihi ʻoe kau Kalitia, ʻo talatalaakiʻi ʻae kau Siu.
Therefore at the same time certain Chaldean men came near, and accused the Jews treacherously.
9 Naʻa nau lea ki he tuʻi ko Nepukanesa ʻo pehē, “ʻE tuʻi, ke ke moʻui ʻo taʻengata.
They commenced and said to king Nebuchadnezzar, O king, live for ever.
10 Ko koe, ʻe tuʻi, kuo ke fai fono, koeʻuhi ko e tangata kotoa pē ʻaia ʻe fanongo ki he leʻo ʻoe koaneti, mo e fangufangu, ʻae haʻape, mo e sakipute, ʻae saliteli, mo e lali, mo e meʻa hiva kehekehe ke ne punou hifo ʻo hū ki he meʻa fakatātā koula:
Thou, O king, hadst made a decree, that every man that should hear the sound of the cornet, flute, guitar, harp, psaltery, and bagpipe, and all kinds of music, should fall down and bow himself to the golden image;
11 Pea ko ia ʻe ʻikai tōmapeʻe ʻo hū, ʻe lī ia ki he loto afi vela kakaha.
And that whoso should not fall down and bow himself should be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.
12 ʻOku ai ʻae kau Siu niʻihi, ʻaia kuo ke fokotuʻu ke pule ki he ngaahi ngāue ʻi he potu ʻo Papilone, ko Seteleki, mo Mesake, mo ʻApeteniko; ko e kau tangata ni, ʻe tuʻi, kuo nau taʻetokanga kiate koe; ʻoku ʻikai te nau tauhiʻi ho ngaahi ʻotua, pe hū ki he meʻa fakatātā koula, ʻaia kuo ke fokotuʻu.”
There are certain Jewish men whom thou hast appointed over the public service of the province of Babylon, Shadrach, Meshach, and 'Abed-nego: these men, O king, have not paid any regard to thee; thy god they do not worship, and to the golden image which thou hast set up they do not bow themselves.
13 Ko ia naʻe fekau ʻe Nepukanesa ʻi heʻene houhau mo ʻene tuputāmaki ke ʻomi ʻa Seteleki, mo Mesake, mo ʻApeteniko. Ko ia naʻa nau ʻomi ʻae kau tangata ni ki he ʻao ʻoe tuʻi.
Then ordered Nebuchadnezzar in rage and fury to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and 'Abed-nego. Then were these men brought before the king.
14 Pea ne lea ʻa Nepukanesa, ʻo pehēange kiate kinautolu, “ʻOku moʻoni, ʻe Seteleki, mo Mesake, mo ʻApeteniko, ʻoku ʻikai te mou tauhiʻi ʻa hoku ngaahi ʻotua, pe hū ki he meʻa fakatātā koula ʻaia kuo u fokotuʻu?
Nebuchadnezzar commenced and said unto them, Is it out of disrespect, O Shadrach, Meshach, and 'Abed-nego? My god ye do not worship, and to the golden image which I have set up ye do not bow yourselves?
15 Ko eni, kapau te mou tali ʻoka mou ka fanongo ki he leʻo ʻoe koaneti, mo e fangufangu, ʻae haʻape, mo e sakipute, ʻae saliteli, mo e lali, mo e ngaahi meʻa hiva kehekehe kotoa pē, pea te mou punou ʻo hū ki he meʻa fakatātā ʻaia kuo u ngaohi; pehē ʻe lelei: pea kapau ʻe ʻikai te mou hū, ʻe lī ʻakimoutolu ʻi he feituʻulaʻā ko ia, ki he loto afi vela kakaha; pea ko hai ʻae ʻotua ko ia te ne fakahaofi ʻakimoutolu mei hoku nima?”
Now then if ye be ready at the time when ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, guitar, psaltery, and bagpipe, and all kinds of music, to fall down and bow yourselves to the image which I have made, [well]; but if ye bow yourselves not, ye shall be cast in the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace: and who is the God that can deliver you out of my hand?
16 Pea naʻe tali ʻe Seteleki, mo Mesake, mo ʻApeteniko, ʻo pehē ki he tuʻi, “ʻE Nepukanesa, ʻoku ʻikai te mau toe fifili pe ko e hā haʻamau tali kiate koe ʻi he meʻa ni.
Then answered Shadrach, Meshach, and 'Abed-nego, and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer thee a word in this matter.
17 Kapau ʻoku pehē, ʻoku mālohi ʻa homau ʻOtua, ʻaia ʻoku mau tauhi ke fakahaofi ʻakimautolu mei he afi vela kakaha, pea te ne fakahaofi ʻakimautolu mei ho nima, ʻe tuʻi.
Behold, there is our God whom we worship, he is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace: and out of thy hand, O king, will he deliver us.
18 Pea kapau ʻe ʻikai, ke ke ʻilo pe ʻe tuʻi, ʻe ʻikai te mau tauhiʻi ho ngaahi ʻotua, pe hū ki he meʻa fakatātā koula ʻaia kuo ke fokotuʻu.”
But if not, then be it known unto thee, O king, that thy god will we not worship, and to the golden image which; thou hast set up will we not bow ourselves.
19 Ko ia naʻe fonu ai ʻa Nepukanesa ʻi he houhau, pea naʻe kehe ʻae anga ʻo hono fofonga kia Seteleki, mo Mesake, mo ʻApeteniko, ko ia naʻa ne lea ʻo fekau ke nau tafu ʻae afi ke liunga fitu hake ʻene vela ʻi heʻene faʻa vela.
Then was Nebuchadnezzar filled with fury, and the form of his countenance was changed because of Shadrach, Meshach, and 'Abed-nego; [and] he commenced and ordered that they should heat the furnace thoroughly seven times more than it was wont to be heated.
20 Pea ne fekau ki he kau tangata mālohi hake ʻi heʻene kongakau ke haʻi ʻa Seteleki, mo Mesake, mo ʻApeteniko, pea lī ʻakinautolu ki he afi vela kakaha.
And he ordered the mightiest men in strength that were in his army, to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and 'Abed-nego, [and] to cast them into the burning fiery furnace.
21 Ko ia naʻe haʻi ʻae kau tangata ni mo honau ngaahi kofutuʻa, mo honau ngaahi kofu loto, mo honau ngaahi tatā, pea naʻe lī ʻakinautolu ki he loto afi vela kakaha.
Then were these men bound in their mantles, their under-garments, and their turbans, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.
22 Pea ko e meʻa ʻi he fekau ʻae tuʻi ke fai ke toʻotoʻo, pea mo ʻene vela ʻaupito ʻae afi, naʻe tāmateʻi ʻe he ulo ʻoe afi ʻae kau tangata ko ia naʻe hiki hake ʻa Seteleki, mo Mesake, mo ʻApeteniko.
Now, because the king's command was so urgent, and the furnace exceedingly heated, the flame of the fire slew those men that carried up Shadrach, Meshach, and 'Abed-nego.
23 Pea naʻe tō hifo ʻae kau tangata ʻe toko tolu ni, ko Seteleki, mo Mesake, mo ʻApeteniko, ki he loto afi vela kakaha.
And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and 'Abed-nego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.
24 Pea naʻe ofo ʻae tuʻi ko Nepukanesa, pea ne tuʻu hake fakavave, mo ne lea ʻo pehē, ki he kau tangata tokoni ʻi he pule, “ʻIkai naʻa tau lī ʻae kau tangata ʻe toko tolu kuo haʻi ki he loto afi?” Pea naʻa nau lea ʻo pehē ki he tuʻi, “ʻOku moʻoni, ʻe tuʻi.”
Then was king Nebuchadnezzar astonished, and he rose up in haste, [and] commenced, and said unto his counsellors, Did we not cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, Certainly, O king.
25 Pea naʻe lea ʻae tuʻi ʻo pehēange kiate kinautolu, “Vakai, ʻoku ou mamata ki he kau tangata ʻe toko fā, ʻoku ʻataʻatā, pea ʻoku nau ʻeveʻeva ʻi he loto afi, pea ʻoku ʻikai ha kovi kiate kinautolu, pea ko e anga ʻo hono toko fā, ʻoku hangē ia ko e ʻAlo ʻoe ʻOtua.”
He answered and said, Lo, I see four men unbound, walking in the midst of the fire, and there is no injury on them; and the appearance of the fourth is like a son of the gods.
26 Pea naʻe ʻunuʻunu atu ʻa Nepukanesa ʻo ofi ki he matapā ki he afi vela kakaha, ʻo ne lea ʻo pehē, “ʻE Seteleki, mo Mesake, mo ʻApeteniko, ʻakimoutolu ʻae kau tamaioʻeiki ʻae ʻOtua māʻolunga, mou hū mai pea haʻu ki heni.” Pea naʻe hū mai ʻa Seteleki, mo Mesake, mo ʻApeteniko, mei he loto afi.
Then came Nebuchadnezzar near to the door of the burning fiery furnace, commenced, and said, Shadrach, Meshach, and 'Abed-nego, ye servants of the most high God, step forth, and come hither. Then stepped Shadrach, Meshach, and 'Abed-nego forth out of the midst of the fire.
27 Pea naʻe mamata ʻe he houʻeiki hau, mo e ngaahi pule, mo e ngaahi ʻeikitau, mo e kau mātuʻa ʻae tuʻi, ʻi heʻenau fakataha, ki he kau tangata ni, ʻaia naʻe ʻikai ke mālohi ʻae afi ki honau sino, pea naʻe ʻikai mahunuhunu ha tuʻoni louʻulu ʻe taha ʻi honau ʻulu, pea naʻe ʻikai ke fakakehe honau kofu, pea naʻe ʻikai ke hoko ʻae nanamu ʻoe afi kiate kinautolu.
And the lieutenants, superintendents, and governors, and the king's counsellors, being assembled together, saw these men, over whose bodies the fire had had no power, and the hair of whose head was not singed, whose mantles were not changed, and on whom there was not come the smell of fire.
28 Pea naʻe lea ʻa Nepukanesa ʻo pehē, “ʻOku monūʻia ʻae ʻOtua ʻo Seteleki, mo Mesake, mo ʻApeteniko, ʻaia kuo fekau ʻa ʻene ʻāngelo, pea kuo ne fakahaofi ʻene kau tamaioʻeiki naʻe falala kiate ia, pea kuo nau liliu ʻae lea ʻae tuʻi, ʻo fakahaofi ʻa honau sino, koeʻuhi ke ʻoua naʻa nau tauhi, pe hū ki ha ʻotua, ka ko honau ʻOtua pe.
Then commenced Nebuchadnezzar, and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and 'Abed-nego, who hath sent his angel, and delivered his servants that had trusted in him, and had transgressed the king's word, and yielded up their bodies, that they might not worship no bow themselves to any god, except their own God.
29 Ko ia ʻoku ou fokotuʻu ʻae fono, ʻilonga ha kakai, pe ha puleʻanga, pe ha lea, ʻoku lea kovi ki he ʻOtua ʻo Seteleki, mo Mesake, mo ʻApeteniko, ʻe tuʻutuʻu fakaikiiki ʻakinautolu, pea ʻe ngaohi honau ngaahi fale ko e tuʻunga ʻotoʻota: koeʻuhi ʻoku ʻikai mo ha ʻOtua ʻe faʻa fakahaofi ʻo hangē ko eni.”
Therefore do I make a decree, That every people, nation, and language, that may speak any thing disrespectful against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and 'Abed-nego, shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be changed into a dunghill; because there is no other God that can deliver like this one.
30 Pea naʻe hakeakiʻi ʻe he tuʻi ʻa Seteleki, mo Mesake, mo ʻApeteniko, ʻi he fonua ʻo Papilone.
Then did the king promote Shadrach, Meshach, and 'Abed-nego, in the province of Babylon.
