< 2 Samuela 24 >

And the Lord caused his anger to burn forth again in Israel, and [Satan] stirred up David against them, saying, Go, number Israel and Juda.
2 He naʻe pehē ʻe he tuʻi kia Soape ko e ʻeiki pule ki he kautau, ʻaia naʻe ʻiate ia, “ʻAlu hake eni ki he faʻahinga kotoa pē ʻo ʻIsileli mei Tani ʻo aʻu atu ki Peasipa, pea lau ʻae kakai, koeʻuhi ke u ʻilo ai pe ʻoku toko fiha ʻae kakai.”
And the king said to Joab commander of the host, who was with him, Go now through all the tribes of Israel and Juda, from Dan even to Bersabee, and number the people, and I will know the number of the people.
3 Pea naʻe pehē ʻe Soape ki he tuʻi, “Manavahē tuku ʻe Sihova ko ho ʻOtua ke ne fakatokolahi ki hoʻo kakai, pe ko e hā ia ʻa honau tokolahi, ke liunga teau hake, pea ne tuku foki ke sio ki ai ʻae mata ʻo hoku ʻeiki ko e tuʻi: ka ko e hā ʻoku fiefie fai ai ʻae meʻa ni ʻe hoku ʻeiki ko e tuʻi?”
And Joab said to the king, Now may the Lord add to the people a hundred-fold as many as they are, and [may] the eyes of my lord the king see it: but why does my lord the king desire this thing?
4 Ka neongo ia naʻe mālohi atu ʻae lea ʻae tuʻi kia Soape, pea ki he houʻeiki naʻe pule ki he kautau. Pea naʻe ʻalu atu ʻa Soape, mo e houʻeiki naʻe pule ki he kautau, mei he ʻao ʻoe tuʻi kenau lau ʻae kakai ʻo ʻIsileli.
Nevertheless the word of the king prevailed against Joab an the captains of the host: And Joab and the captains of the host went out before the king to number the people of Israel.
5 Pea naʻa nau ʻalu ki he kauvai ʻe taha ʻo Sioatani, ʻonau ʻapitanga ʻi ʻAloeli, ki he potu toʻomataʻu ʻoe kolo ʻaia ʻoku tuʻu ki he lotolotonga ʻoe teleʻa ʻo Kata, ʻo hanga tonu ki Sesa:
And they went over Jordan, and encamped in Aroer, on the right of the city which is in the midst of the valley of Gad and Eliezer.
6 Hili ia naʻa nau omi ki Kiliati, pea ki he fonua ko Tatimi-Otisi: pea naʻa nau hoko atu ki Tani-Saani, ʻo fai hake ki Saitoni,
And they came to Galaad, and into the land of Thabason, which is Adasai, and they came to Danidan and Udan, and compassed Sidon.
7 ‌ʻO nau omi ki he kolo mālohi ʻo Taia, pea ki he ngaahi kolo kotoa pē ʻoe kakai Hevi, pea mo e kakai Kēnani: pea naʻa nau ʻalu atu ki he potu tonga ʻo Siuta, ʻo aʻu ki Peasipa.
And they came to Mapsar of Tyre, and to all the cities of the Evite and the Chananite: and they came by the South of Juda to Bersabee.
8 Pea ko ia, hili ʻenau ʻalu atu ki he potu kotoa pē ʻoe fonua, naʻa nau hoko mai ki Selūsalema ʻi he kātoa ʻoe māhina ʻe hiva mo e ʻaho ʻe uofulu.
And they compassed the whole land; and they arrived at Jerusalem at the end of nine months and twenty days.
9 Pea naʻe tuku atu ʻe Soape ki he tuʻi ʻa hono lau fakataha ʻae toko fiha ʻoe kakai: pea naʻe ʻi ʻIsileli ʻae kau tangata mālohi naʻe faʻa toʻo ʻae heletā, ko e toko valu kilu; pea ko e kau tangata naʻe ʻi Siuta, ko e toko nima kilu.
And Joab gave in the number of the census of the people to the king: and Israel consisted of eight hundred thousand men of might that drew sword; and the men of Juda, five hundred thousand fighting men.
10 Pea naʻe valoki ʻa Tevita ʻe hono loto hili ʻa ʻene lau ʻae kakai. Pea naʻe pehē ʻe Tevita kia Sihova, kuo u fai angahala lahi ʻi he meʻa ʻaia kuo u fai: pea ko eni, “ʻE Sihova, ʻoku ou kole kiate koe ke ʻave ʻae hia ʻa hoʻo tamaioʻeiki; he kuo u fai vale lahi ʻaupito.”
And the heart of David struck him after he had numbered the people; and David said to the Lord, I have sinned grievously, O Lord, [in] what I have now done: remove, I pray you, the iniquity of your servant, for I have been exceedingly foolish.
11 He koeʻuhi ʻi heʻene tuʻu hake ʻa Tevita ʻi he pongipongi, naʻe hoko mai ʻae folofola ʻa Sihova ki he palōfita ko Kata, ko e tangata kikite ʻo Tevita, ʻo pehē,
And David rose early in the morning, and the word of the Lord came to the prophet Gad, the seer, saying, Go, and speak to David, saying,
12 “ʻAlu ʻo fakahā kia Tevita, ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova, ʻOku ou tuku ke ke fili ki he meʻa ʻe tolu: fili kiate koe ha taha mei ai, koeʻuhi ke u fai ia kiate koe.”
Thus says the Lord, I bring [one of] three things upon you: now choose you one of them, and I will do [it] to you.
13 Ko ia naʻe haʻu ai ʻa Kata kia Tevita, ʻo ne tala ki ai, ʻo ne pehē kiate ia, “ʻE hoko ha honge kiate koe ʻi ho fonua ʻi he taʻu ʻe fitu? Pe te ke fie hola ʻi he māhina ʻe tolu mei he ʻao ʻo ho ngaahi fili, ka nau tulia koe? Pe[te ke fili ]ke ai ha mahaki fakaʻauha ʻi ho fonua ʻi he ʻaho ʻe tolu? Fakakaukau eni ki ai, pea vakai pe ko e hā ha lea te u toe lea ʻaki kiate ia naʻa ne fekauʻi au.”
And Gad went in to David, and told him, and said to him, Choose [one of these things] to befall you, whether there shall come upon you [for] three years famine in your land; or that you should flee three months before your enemies, and they should pursue you; or that there should be [for] three days mortality in your land. Now then decide, and see what answer I shall return to him that sent me.
14 Pea naʻe pehē ʻe Tevita kia Kata, “Kuo ʻefihiaʻi lahi ʻaupito au: tuku eni ketau hinga atu ki he nima ʻo Sihova: he ʻoku lahi ʻa ʻene ʻaloʻofa: kaeʻoua naʻaku tō atu ki he nima ʻoe tangata.”
And David said to Gad, On every side I am much straitened: let me fall now into the hands of the Lord, for his compassions [are] very many; and let me not fall into the hands of man.
15 Ko ia naʻe ʻomi ai ʻe Sihova ʻae mahaki fakaʻauha ki ʻIsileli mei he pongipongi ʻo aʻu atu ki he feituʻu ʻaho ʻaia naʻe tuʻutuʻuni: pea naʻe pekia ʻi he kakai mei Tani ʻo aʻu atu ki Peasipa, ʻae kakai tangata ʻe toko fitu mano.
So David chose for himself the mortality: and [they were] the days of wheat harvest; and the Lord sent a pestilence upon Israel from morning till noon, and the plague began among the people; and there died of the people from Dan even to Bersabee seventy thousand men.
16 Pea ʻi heʻene mafao atu ʻe he ʻāngelo ʻa hono nima ki Selūsalema ke fakaʻauha ia, naʻe liliu ʻa Sihova mei he fakahoko ʻae kovi, pea ne folofola ki he ʻāngelo ʻaia naʻe tāmateʻi ʻae kakai, “Kuo lahi; ke taʻofi eni ho nima.” Pea naʻe feʻunga ʻae ʻāngelo ʻo Sihova mo e hahaʻanga uite ʻo ʻAlauna ko e tangata Sepusi.
And the angel of the Lord stretched out his hand against Jerusalem to destroy it, and the Lord repented of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed the people, [It is] enough now, withhold your hand. And the angel of the Lord was by the threshing floor of Orna the Jebusite.
17 Pea naʻe lea ʻa Tevita kia Sihova, ʻi heʻene mamata ki he ʻāngelo ʻaia naʻe taaʻi ʻae kakai, ʻo ne pehē, “Vakai, kuo u fai angahala, pea kuo u fai ʻae kovi lahi: ka ko e fanga sipi na ko e hā kuo nau fai? ʻOku ou kole kiate koe, tuku ho nima ke mafao mai kiate au, pea ki he fale ʻo ʻeku tamai.”
And David spoke to the Lord when he saw the angel striking the people, and he said, Behold, it is I that have done wrong, but these sheep what have they done? Let your hand, I pray you, be upon me, and upon my father's house.
18 Pea naʻe haʻu ʻa Kata ʻi he ʻaho ko ia kia Tevita ʻo ne pehē kiate ia, “ʻAlu hake, pea ke fokotuʻu ha feilaulauʻanga kia Sihova ʻi he hahaʻanga uite ʻo ʻAlauna ko e tangata Sepusi.”
And Gad came to David in that day, and said to him, Go up, and set up to the Lord and altar in the threshing floor of Orna the Jebusite.
19 Pea naʻe ʻalu hake ʻa Tevita, ʻo hangē ko e tala ʻa Kata, pea hangē ko ia naʻe fekau ʻe Sihova.
And David went up according to the word of Gad, as the Lord commanded him.
20 Pea naʻe sio ʻa ʻAlauna, ʻo ne mamata ki heʻene haʻu kiate ia ʻae tuʻi pea mo ʻene kau tamaioʻeiki: pea naʻe ʻalu atu ʻa ʻAlauna, pea naʻa ne punou hifo ia ʻi he ʻao ʻoe tuʻi ki hono mata ki he kelekele.
And Orna looked out, and saw the king and his servants coming on before him: and Orna went forth, and did obeisance to the king with his face to the earth.
21 Pea naʻe pehē ʻe ʻAlauna, “Ko e hā kuo haʻu ai ʻa hoku ʻeiki ko e tuʻi ki heʻene tamaioʻeiki?” Pea naʻe pehēange ʻe Tevita, “Koeʻuhi ke u fakatau meiate koe ʻae hahaʻanga uite, ke fokotuʻu ai ha feilaulauʻanga kia Sihova, ke ngata ai ʻae mahaki fakaʻauha mei he kakai.”
And Orna said, Why has my lord the king come to his servant? and David said, To buy of you the threshing floor, in order to build an altar to the Lord that the plague may be restrained from off the people.
22 Pea naʻe pehē ʻe ʻAlauna kia Tevita, “Tuku ke toʻo ʻe hoku ʻeiki ko e tuʻi mo ne feilaulau ʻaki ha meʻa ʻoku lelei kiate ia: vakai, ʻoku ʻi heni ʻae fanga pulu ki he feilaulau tutu, mo e nāunau ʻoe haha uite, mo e nāunau ʻoe fanga pulu ke fefie ʻaki.”
And Orna said to David, Let my lord the king take and offer to the Lord that which is good in his eyes: behold, [here are] oxen for a whole burnt offering, and the wheels and furniture of the oxen for wood.
23 Ko e ngaahi meʻa ni kotoa pē naʻe fai fakaʻeiʻeiki ai ʻa ʻAlauna ʻo ne foaki ia ki he tuʻi. Pea naʻe pehē ʻe ʻAlauna ki he tuʻi, “Ke ʻofeina koe ʻe Sihova ko ho ʻOtua.”
Orna gave all to the king: and Orna said to the king, The Lord your God bless you.
24 Pea naʻe pehē ʻe he tuʻi kia ʻAlauna, “ʻE ʻikai pehē; ka te u fakatau moʻoni ia meiate koe ʻaki ha totongi: pea ʻe ʻikai foki te u ʻatu ha feilaulau tutu kia Sihova ko hoku ʻOtua, ʻi ha meʻa kuo u maʻu taʻetotongi.” Pea ko ia naʻe fakatau ai ʻe Tevita ʻae hahaʻanga uite, pea mo e fanga pulu, ʻaki ʻae sikeli siliva ʻe nimangofulu.
And the king said to Orna, Nay, but I will surely buy it of you at a fair price, and I will not offer to the Lord my God a whole burnt offering for nothing. So David purchased the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.
Pea pehē, naʻe fakakolekolea ʻa Sihova koeʻuhi ko e fonua, pea naʻe taʻofi ʻae mahaki fakaʻauha mei ʻIsileli.
And David built there an altar to the Lord, and offered up whole burnt offerings and peace-offerings: and Solomon made an addition to the altar afterwards, for it was little at first. And the Lord listened to the land, and the plague was stayed from Israel.
