2 Samuela 12
1 Pea naʻe fekau ʻe Sihova ʻa Natani kia Tevita. Pea naʻa ne haʻu kiate ia, ʻo ne pehē ki ai, “Naʻe ai ʻae ongo tangata ʻe toko ua, ʻi he kolo pe taha: naʻe koloaʻia ʻae tokotaha kae masiva ʻae tokotaha.
And the Lord sent Nathan unto David, and he came unto him and said to him, Two men were once in one city, the one rich and the other poor.
2 Naʻe maʻu ʻe he koloaʻia ʻae fanga manu siʻi mo e fanga manu lalahi ʻo lahi ʻaupito:
The rich man had flocks and herds, in great abundance.
3 Ka naʻe ʻikai ha meʻa ʻi he tangata masiva, ka ko e kihiʻi lami fefine pe taha, ʻaia naʻa ne fakatau pea pusiaki: pea naʻe tupu hake ia mo ia pea mo ʻene fānau; pea naʻe kai ia ʻi heʻene meʻakai ʻaʻana, pea ne inu mei heʻene ipu ʻaʻana, pea naʻe tokoto ia ki hono fatafata, pea naʻe tatau ia kiate ia mo ha ʻofefine.
But the poor man had nothing, save one little ewe, which he had bought; and he nourished it, and it grew up with him and with his children together; of his bread it used to eat, and out of his cup it used to drink, and in his bosom it used to lie, and it was to him as a daughter.
4 Pea naʻe haʻu ʻae tangata fononga ki he tangata koloaʻia, pea naʻa ne mamae ke fili mei heʻene fanga manu siʻi ʻaʻana, mo ʻene fanga manu lalahi, ke teuteu ia maʻae tangata fononga ʻaia naʻe haʻu kiate ia; ka naʻa ne ʻomi ʻae lami ʻae tangata masiva, ʻo ne teuteuʻi ia maʻae tangata ʻaia naʻe haʻu kiate ia.”
And there came a traveler unto the rich man; and he felt compunction to take from his own flocks and from his own herds to dress for the wayfarer that was come to him; but he took the ewe of the poor man, and dressed it for the man that was come to him.
5 Pea naʻe tupu ʻo vela lahi ʻae houhau ʻa Tevita ki he tangata; pea naʻa ne pehē kia Netane, “Hangē ʻoku moʻui ʻa Sihova, ʻoku totonu ke mate ʻae tangata ʻaia kuo fai ʻae meʻa ni:
And the anger of David was greatly kindled against the man; and he said to Nathan, As the Lord liveth, surely the man that hath done this deserveth to die;
6 Pea ʻe totongi ia ʻae lami ke liunga fā, koeʻuhi ko ʻene fai ʻae meʻa ni, pea koeʻuhi naʻe ʻikai ʻiate ia ha angaʻofa.”
And the ewe he shall pay fourfold, for punishment that he hath done this thing, and because he had no compassion.
7 Pea naʻe pehē atu ʻe Netane kia Tevita, “Ko koe ʻae tangata ko ia. ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova ko e ʻOtua ʻo ʻIsileli, naʻaku pani lolo koe ke ke tuʻi ʻi ʻIsileli, pea naʻaku fakamoʻui koe mei he nima ʻo Saula;
Then said Nathan to David, Thou art the man! Thus hath said the Lord, the God of Israel, It is I who anointed thee as king over Israel, and it is I who delivered thee out of the hand of Saul;
8 Pea naʻaku tuku kiate koe ʻae fale ʻo hoʻo ʻeiki, pea u tuku ki ho fatafata ʻae ngaahi uaifi ʻo hoʻo ʻeiki, pea u ʻatu kiate koe ʻae fale ʻo ʻIsileli pea mo Siuta; pea ka ne siʻi ia, pehē te u foaki kiate koe mo e ngaahi meʻa kehekehe.
And I gave unto thee the house of thy master, and [put] the wives of thy master into thy bosom, and gave unto thee the house of Israel and Judah: and if this be too little, I could bestow on thee yet many more like these things.
9 Ka ko e hā kuo ke paetaku ai ki he fekau ʻa Sihova, ke fai ʻae kovi ʻi hono ʻao? Kuo ke tāmateʻi ʻa ʻUlia ko e tangata Heti ʻi he heletā, pea kuo ke ʻomi ʻa hono uaifi ke mali mo koe, pea kuo ke tāmateʻi ia ʻaki ʻae heletā ʻoe fānau ʻa ʻAmoni.
Wherefore hast thou despised the word of the Lord to do what is evil in his eyes? Uriyah the Hittite hast thou smitten with the sword, and his wife hast thou taken unto thee for wife; but him hast thou slain with the sword of the children of 'Ammon.
10 Pea ko eni foki, ʻe ʻikai mahuʻi ʻae heletā mei ho fale ʻo taʻengata; koeʻuhi kuo ke manuki kiate au, pea kuo ke ʻomi ʻae uaifi ʻo ʻUlia ko e tangata Heti, ke hoko ko ho uaifi.
And now, the sword shall not depart from thy house for ever; for the reason that thou hast despised me, and hast taken the wife of Uriyah the Hittite to be thy wife.
11 ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova, Vakai, te u fakatupu hake ʻae kovi kiate koe mei ho fale pe ʻoʻou, pea te u toʻo atu mei ho ʻao ʻa ho ngaahi uaifi, ʻo ʻatu ʻakinautolu ki ho kaungāʻapi, pea ʻe mohe ia mo ho ngaahi uaifi ʻi he ʻao ʻoe laʻā ni.
Thus hath said the Lord, Behold, I will raise up against thee evil out of thy own house, and I will take away thy wives before thy eyes, and I will give them unto thy neighbor; and he shall lie with thy wives before the face of this sun.
12 He naʻa ke fai fufū ia ʻe koe ka te u fai ʻeau ʻae meʻa ni ʻi he ʻao ʻo ʻIsileli kātoa, pea ʻi he ʻao ʻoe laʻā.’”
For thou hast done it in secret; but I will surely do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.
13 Pea naʻe pehē ʻe Tevita kia Natani, “Kuo u fai ʻae angahala kia Sihova.” Pea naʻe pehē ʻe Netane kia Tevita, “Kuo ʻave foki ʻe Sihova ʻa hoʻo angahala; ʻe ʻikai te ke mate.
Then said David unto Nathan, I have sinned against the Lord. And Nathan said to David, Also the Lord hath caused thy sin to pass away: thou shalt not die.
14 Ka ko eni, koeʻuhi kuo ke tuku ha tuʻunga ʻi he meʻa ni ke lauʻikovi ai ʻa Sihova ʻe hono ngaahi fili, ʻe mate moʻoni ʻae tamasiʻi kuo fanauʻi kiate koe.”
Nevertheless, because thou hast given great cause to the enemies of the Lord to blaspheme through this thing, the child also that hath been born unto thee shall surely die.
15 Pea naʻe ʻalu ʻa Netane ki hono fale. Pea naʻe taaʻi ʻe Sihova ʻae tamasiʻi ʻaia naʻe fānau ʻe he uaifi ʻo ʻUlia kia Tevita, pea naʻe mahaki lahi ia.
And Nathan went to his house; and the Lord struck the child that Uriyah's wife had born unto David, that it became very sick.
16 Ko ia naʻe kole ai ʻa Tevita ki he ʻOtua koeʻuhi ko e tamasiʻi; pea naʻe fai ʻae ʻaukai ʻe Tevita, pea ne ʻalu ʻo tokoto ki he funga kelekele ʻi he pō ʻo ʻaho.
And David besought God in behalf of the lad; and David kept a fast, and came home, and lay over night upon the earth.
17 Pea naʻe tutuʻu hake ʻae kau mātuʻa ʻo hono fale kiate ia, ke hiki hake ia mei he kelekele: ka naʻe ʻikai loto ia ki ai, pea naʻe ʻikai te ne kai ha meʻa mo kinautolu.
And the elders of the house arose about him, to raise him up from the earth; but he would not, and he did not partake of any bread with them.
18 Pea naʻe hoko ʻo pehē, naʻe pekia ʻae tamasiʻi ki hono fitu ʻoe ʻaho. Pea naʻe manavahē ʻae kau tamaioʻeiki ʻa Tevita ke tala kiate ia kuo pekia ʻae tamasiʻi: he naʻa nau pehē, “Vakai, ʻi heʻene kei moʻui ʻae tamasiʻi, naʻa mau lea kiate ia, pea naʻe ʻikai fie tokanga ia ki homau leʻo: kae huanoa ʻa ʻene fakamamahi ia, ʻo kapau te mau tala kiate ia kuo pekia ʻae tamasiʻi?”
And it came to pass on the seventh day that the child died; and the servants of David were afraid to tell him, that the child was dead; for they said, Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spoke to him, and he would not hearken to our voice: how then shall we say to him, The child is dead! he might do [himself] a hurt.
19 Ka ʻi heʻene mamata ʻa Tevita ki he fefanafanahi ʻa ʻene kau tamaioʻeiki, naʻe ʻilo ai ʻe Tevita kuo pekia ʻae tamasiʻi; ko ia naʻe pehē ai ʻe Tevita ki heʻene kau tamaioʻeiki, “Kuo pekia ʻae tamasiʻi?” Pea naʻa nau pehē, “Kuo pekia.”
But when David saw that his servants were whispering to each other, David understood that the child was dead; wherefore David said unto his servants, Is the child dead? and they said, he is dead.
20 Pea naʻe toki tuʻu hake ʻa Tevita mei he kelekele, pea ne kaukau mo tākai ia, pea naʻa ne fetongi hono kofu, pea naʻe haʻu ia ki he fale ʻo Sihova, pea fai ʻene hū: pea hili ia naʻa ne haʻu ki hono fale ʻoʻona; pea ʻi he fai ʻene fekau, naʻa nau ʻomi ʻae meʻakai ki hono ʻao, pea naʻa ne kai.
David then rose up from the earth, and washed and anointed himself, and changed his garments, and went into the house of the Lord and prostrated himself; and then he came to his own house, and asked that they should set food before him, and he ate.
21 Pea naʻe toki pehē ai ʻe heʻene kau tamaioʻeiki kiate ia, “Ko e hā ʻae meʻa ko eni ʻaia kuo ke fai? Naʻa ke ʻaukai mo tangi koeʻuhi ko e tamasiʻi ʻi heʻene kei moʻui; ka ʻi heʻene pekia ʻae tamasiʻi, naʻa ke tuʻu hake mo ke kai ʻae meʻakai.”
And his servants then said unto him, What is this thing which thou hast done? On account of the child when living thou didst fast and weep; but as soon as the child was dead thou didst arise and eat bread!
22 Pea naʻe pehēange ʻe ia, “Lolotonga ʻae kei moʻui ʻae tamasiʻi, naʻaku ʻaukai mo tangi: he naʻaku pehē, Ko hai ʻoku ʻilo, naʻa ʻaloʻofa ʻae ʻOtua kiate au, koeʻuhi ke moʻui ʻae tamasiʻi?
And he said, While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept; because I said, Who knoweth, but that the Lord will be gracious to me, that the child may live?
23 Ka ko eni kuo ne mate, pea ko e ʻumaʻā ʻeku ʻaukai? He te u faʻa fai ke toe omi ia? Te u ʻalu atu kiate ia ka e ʻikai toe haʻu ia kiate au.
But now he is dead, wherefore should I fast then? can I restore him again? I am going to him; but he will not return to me.
24 Pea naʻe fakafiemālieʻi ʻe Tevita ʻa hono uaifi ko Patisepa, pea naʻa ne ʻalu ange kiate ia, mo ne mohe mo ia: pea naʻa ne fanauʻi ʻae tama tangata, pea naʻa ne fakahingoa ia ko Solomone pea naʻe ʻofeina ia ʻe Sihova.
And David comforted Bath-sheba' his wife, and he went in unto her, and lay with her; and she bore a son, and called his name Solomon; and the Lord loved him.
25 Pea naʻa ne fekau kiate ia ia Netane ko e palōfita; pea naʻa ne fakahingoa ia ko Sitaia, koeʻuhi ko Sihova.
And he sent by the hand of Nathan the prophet, and called his name, Yedideyah in behalf of the Lord.
26 Pea naʻe fai ʻae tau ʻe Soape ki Lapa ʻoe fānau ʻa ʻAmoni, mo ne kapasi ʻae kolo ʻoe tuʻi.
And Joab fought against Rabbah of the children of 'Ammon, and captured the royal city.
27 Pea naʻe ʻave ʻe Soape ʻae kau talafekau kia Tevita, ʻo ne pehē, “Kuo u tau ki Lapa, pea kuo kapasi ʻae kolo ʻoe ngaahi vai.
And Joab sent messengers to David; and said, I have fought against Rabbah, and have also captured the water-town.
28 Ko ia foki, tānaki mai ʻae toenga ʻoe kakai, pea fakanofo ʻae tau ki he kolo, pea lavaʻi ia: telia naʻaku lavaʻi ʻeau ʻae kolo, pea ʻe fakahingoa ia ki hoku hingoa ʻoʻoku.”
And now gather the rest of the people together, and encamp against the city, and capture it: lest I capture the city myself, and it be called by my name.
29 Pea naʻe tānaki fakataha ʻe Tevita ʻae kakai kotoa pē, pea ne ʻalu ki Lapa, pea ne tau ki ai, ʻo ne hamu ia.
And David gathered all the people together and went to Rabbah, and fought against it, and captured it.
30 Pea naʻa ne toʻo ʻae tatā fakatuʻi mei he fofonga ʻo honau tuʻi, ko hono mamafa ko e taleniti ʻe taha ʻoe koula fakataha mo hono ngaahi maka mahuʻinga: pea naʻe ʻai ia ki he fofonga ʻo Tevita. Pea naʻa ne fetuku kituʻa ʻae koloa vete ʻoe kolo ʻo lahi ʻaupito.
And he took the crown of Malkam from off his head, and its weight was a talent of gold, and [on it was] a precious stone, and it was set on the head of David; and the booty of the city he brought out in great abundance.
31 Pea naʻa ne ʻomi kituʻa ʻae kakai naʻe ʻi ai, ʻo ne tuku ʻakinautolu ki he lalo kili, pea ki lalo ʻi he ngaahi meʻa toho vangavanga naʻe ngaohi ʻaki ʻae ʻaione, pea ki lalo ʻi he ngaahi toki ukamea, pea naʻa ne pule kenau ʻalu atu ʻi he lotolotonga ʻoe tutuʻanga makaʻumea: pea naʻe pehē pe ʻa ʻene fai ki he ngaahi kolo kotoa pē ʻoe fānau ʻa ʻAmoni. Pea naʻe liu mai ki Selūsalema ʻa Tevita pea mo e kakai kotoa pē.
And the people that were therein he brought forward, and put them under saws, and under iron threshing-wagons, and under axes of iron, and made them pass through brick-kilns; and thus did he unto all the cities of the children of 'Ammon: and David returned with them with all the people unto Jerusalem.
