1 Pea naʻe hoko ʻo pehē, ʻi he te u ʻe Sihova ke toʻo hake ʻa ʻIlaisiā ki loto langi ʻi he ʻahiohio, naʻe ʻalu ʻa ʻIlaisiā mo ʻIlaisa mei Kilikali.
When Yahweh was about to take [the prophet] Elijah up to heaven in a (whirlwind/twisting wind), Elijah and [his fellow prophet] Elisha were traveling [south] from Gilgal [town].
2 Pea naʻe pehē ʻe ʻIlaisiā kia ʻIlaisa, “ʻOku ou kole ke ke tatali koe ʻi heni; he kuo fekauʻi au ʻe Sihova ki Peteli.” Pea naʻe pehē ʻe ʻIlaisa, “ʻOku moʻui ʻa Sihova, pea ʻoku moʻui ho laumālie, pea ʻe ʻikai te u mahuʻi meiate koe.” Pea ko ia naʻa na ʻalu hifo ai ki Peteli.
Elijah said to Elisha, “Stay here, because Yahweh has told [only] me to go to Bethel [town].” But Elisha replied, “Just as certainly as Yahweh lives and you live, I will not leave you!” So they went down [together] to Bethel.
3 Pea naʻe hū mai kia ʻIlaisa ʻae ngaahi foha ʻoe kau palōfita ʻaia naʻe ʻi Peteli, ʻonau pehē kiate ia, “ʻOku ke ʻilo ʻe ʻave ʻe Sihova ʻa hoʻo ʻeiki mei ho ʻulu he ʻaho ni?” Pea naʻe pehē ʻe ia, “ʻIo, ʻoku ou ʻilo; ka mou longo pe kimoutolu.”
A group of prophets came to Elisha [and Elijah before they entered the town], and they asked Elisha, “Do you know that Yahweh is going to take your master/boss [Elijah] away from you today?” Elisha answered, “Certainly I know that, but don’t talk about it!” [IDM]
4 Pea naʻe pehē ʻe ʻIlaisiā kiate ia, “ʻIlaisa, ʻOku ou kole ke ke tatali ʻi heni; he kuo fekauʻi au ʻe Sihova ki Seliko.” Pea naʻe pehē ʻe ia, “ʻOku moʻui ʻa Sihova, pea ʻoku moʻui ho laumālie, pea ʻe ʻikai te u mahuʻi meiate koe.” Ko ia naʻa na hoko ai ki Seliko.
Then Elijah said to Elisha, “Stay here, because Yahweh has told [only] me to go to Jericho.” But Elisha replied [again], “Just as certainly as Yahweh lives and you live, I will not leave you!” So they went [together] to Jericho [city].
5 Pea naʻe haʻu ʻae ngaahi foha ʻoe kau palōfita ʻaia naʻe ʻi Seliko kia ʻIlaisa, ʻonau pehē kiate ia, “ʻOku ke ʻilo ʻe ʻave ʻe Sihova ʻa hoʻo ʻeiki mei ho ʻulu he ʻaho ni?” Pea naʻe pehē ʻe ia, “ʻIo, ʻoku ou ʻilo; ka mou longo pe kimoutolu.”
[As they neared] Jericho, a group of prophets who were from there came to Elisha and said to him, “Do you know that Yahweh is going to take your master/boss [Elijah] away from you today?” He answered again, “Certainly I know that, but don’t talk about it!” [IDM]
6 Pea naʻe pehē ʻe ʻIlaisiā kiate ia, “ʻOku ou kole ke ke tatali koe ʻi heni; he kuo fekauʻi au ʻe Sihova ki Sioatani.” Pea naʻe pehē ʻe ia, “ʻOku moʻui ʻa Sihova, pea ʻoku moʻui ho laumālie, pea ʻe ʻikai te u mahuʻi meiate koe.” Pea naʻe ʻalu atu pe ʻakinaua ni.
Then Elijah said to Elisha, “Stay here, because Yahweh has told [only] me to go to the Jordan [River].” But [again] Elisha replied, “As certainly as Yahweh lives and you live, I will not leave you!” So they continued walking together.
7 Pea naʻe ʻalu ʻae kau tangata ʻe toko nimangofulu ʻoe ngaahi foha ʻoe kau palōfita, ʻonau tutuʻu ke sio mei he mamaʻo: pea naʻe tutuʻu ʻakinaua ʻo feʻunga atu mo Sioatani.
Fifty men from a group of prophets [who were from Jericho] also went, but they watched from a distance as Elijah and Elisha stopped at the edge of the Jordan [River].
8 Pea naʻe toʻo ʻe ʻIlaisiā ʻa hono pulupulu, mo ne takai fakataha ia, mo ne tā ʻaki ia ʻae ngaahi vai, pea naʻe vaheua ia, pea ko ia naʻa na ʻalu atu ai ʻi he kelekele mōmoa.
Then Elijah rolled up his cloak and struck the water with it. A path opened up for them through the river, and they walked across [as though they were] on dry ground.
9 Pea hili ʻena ʻalu ki he kauvai ʻe taha naʻe pehē ʻe ʻIlaisiā kia ʻIlaisa, “Ke ke tala mai pe ko e hā ha meʻa te u fai maʻau ʻi he teʻeki ʻave au meiate koe.” Pea naʻe pehē ʻe ʻIlaisa, “ʻOku ou kole kiate koe, tuku ke ʻiate au ha vāhenga ʻe ua ʻo ho ʻulungāanga ʻoʻou.”
When they came to the other side, Elijah said to Elisha, “What do you want me to do for you before (I am taken away/Yahweh takes me away)?” Elisha replied, “I want to receive twice as much of your power [as you have had, ] (OR enable me to very powerfully continue your ministry).”
10 Pea naʻe pehē ʻe ia, “ʻOku faingataʻa ʻae meʻa kuo ke kole ki ai: Ka koeʻuhi, kapau te ke mamata ki he ʻave au meiate koe, ʻe hoko ʻo pehē kiate koe pea kapau ʻe ʻikai, pea ʻe ʻikai hoko ia.”
Elijah replied, “You have asked for something which is difficult [for me to cause to happen]. But, if you see me when (I am taken from you/Yahweh takes me from you), you will get what you are requesting. But if you do not see me, then you will not get it.”
11 Pea vakai, lolotonga ʻa ʻena kei ʻalu atu, mo talanoa, naʻe hā mai ha saliote afi, mo e fanga hoosi ʻoe afi, pea naʻe māvae ai ʻakinaua; pea naʻe ʻalu hake ʻa ʻIlaisiā ʻi he ʻahiohio ki he langi.
As they were walking and talking, suddenly a chariot that had fire [surrounding it], pulled by horses which also had fire [surrounding them], appeared. [The chariot driver] drove the chariot between Elijah and Elisha and separated them. Then Elijah was taken up to heaven in a (whirlwind/twisting wind).
12 Pea naʻe mamata ki ai ʻa ʻIlaisa, pea naʻa ne kalanga, “ʻA ʻeku tamai, ʻa ʻeku tamai, ko e saliote ʻo ʻIsileli, mo e kau heka hoosi ʻo ia.” Pea naʻe ʻikai toe mamata ia kiate ia: pea naʻa ne puke ʻa hono ngaahi kofu ʻoʻona, mo ne haeua ia.
Elisha saw it. He cried out, “My father/master! My father/master! The chariots of us Israeli people and their drivers [have taken my master away]!” [They disappeared into the sky, ] and Elisha never saw Elijah again. Then Elisha tore his own robe into two pieces [to show that he was sad].
13 Naʻa ne toʻo hake foki ʻae pulupulu ʻo ʻIlaisiā ʻaia naʻe tō hifo meiate ia, pea ne foki ki mui, mo ne tuʻu ki he kauvai ʻo Sioatani:
Elijah’s cloak [had fallen off when he was taken away, so] Elisha picked it up and returned to the bank of the Jordan [River].
14 Pea naʻa ne toʻo ʻae pulupulu ʻo ʻIlaisiā ʻaia naʻe tō hifo meiate ia, ʻo ne tā ʻaki ʻae ngaahi vai, mo ne pehē, “Ko fē ia ʻa Sihova ko e ʻOtua ʻo ʻIlaisiā?” Pea ʻi heʻene tā foki ʻe ia ʻae ngaahi vai, naʻa nau vahe kehekehe, ka ka ʻalu atu ʻa ʻIlaisa [ki he kauvai ]ʻe taha.
He [rolled up the cloak and] struck the water with it, and cried out, “Will Yahweh, the God who [enabled] Elijah [to perform miracles, enable me to do similar things]?” Then the water separated, and a path opened up for him, and Elisha went across.
15 Pea ʻi he sio kiate ia ʻae ngaahi foha ʻoe kau palōfita ʻaia naʻe ʻalu atu mei Seliko ke mamata, naʻa nau pehē, “Kuo hoko ʻae laumālie ʻo ʻIlaisiā kia ʻIlaisa.” Pea naʻa nau omi ke fetaulaki mai kiate ia, mo nau fakatōmapeʻe hifo kinautolu ki he kelekele ʻi hono ʻao.
When the group of prophets from Jericho saw what happened, they exclaimed, “Elisha now has the power that Elijah had!” [MTY] They walked over to him and bowed down in front of him.
16 Pea naʻa nau pehē kiate ia, “Ko eni, vakai, ʻoku ʻi hoʻo kau tamaioʻeiki ʻae kau tangata mālohi ʻe toko nimangofulu; ʻoku mau kole, ke ke tuku ʻakinautolu ke ʻalu, ʻo kumi ki hoʻo ʻeiki: telia naʻa kuo toʻo hake ia ʻe he Laumālie ʻo Sihova, mo ne lī hifo ia ki ha tumuʻaki moʻunga, pe ki ha teleʻa.” Pea naʻe pehēange ʻe ia, “ʻE ʻikai te mou fekau [ha niʻihi].”
[One of] them said, “Sir, if you permit us, 50 of our strongest men will go and search for your master [on the other side of the river]. Perhaps the Spirit of Yahweh has left him on some mountain or in some valley.” Elisha replied, “No, do not send them.”
17 Pea ʻi heʻenau kole fakafiu kiate ia, naʻa ne pehē, “Fekau pe.” Ko ia naʻa nau fekau atu ʻae kau tangata ʻe toko nimangofulu; pea naʻa nau kumi ʻi he ʻaho ʻe tolu, ka naʻe ʻikai ʻilo ia.
But they kept insisting. Finally he was tired of saying “No,” and he said, “Okay, send them.” So 50 men searched for three days, but they did not find Elijah.
18 Pea ʻi heʻenau toe hoko mai kiate ia, (he naʻa ne tatali pe ʻi Seliko, ) naʻa ne pehē kiate kinautolu, “ʻIkai naʻaku tala kiate kimoutolu, Ke ʻoua naʻa mou ʻalu?”
They returned to Jericho, and Elisha was still there. He said to them, “I told you that you should not go, [because you would not find him]!” [RHQ]
19 Pea naʻe pehē ʻe he kau tangata ʻoe kolo kia ʻIlaisa, “Vakai koe, ʻoku matamatalelei ʻae tuʻuʻanga ʻoe kolo ni, ʻo hangē ko ia ʻoku sio ki ai ʻa hoku ʻeiki: ka ʻoku kovi ʻa hono vai, pea ʻoku kakā ʻae kelekele.”
Then the leaders of [Jericho] city came to talk with Elisha. One of them said, “Our master, we have a problem. You can see that this is a very nice place [to live in]. But the water is bad, and as a result, crops will not grow on the land.”
20 Pea naʻe pehēange ʻe ia, “ʻOmi kiate au ha ipu kelekele foʻou, pea ʻai ha māsima ki ai.” Pea naʻa nau ʻomi ia kiate ia.
Elisha said to them, “Put some salt in a new bowl and bring the bowl to me.” So they brought it to him.
21 Pea naʻe ʻalu atu ia ki he punaʻanga ʻoe ngaahi vai, mo ne lī ki ai ʻae māsima, mo ne pehē, “ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova, ‘Kuo u fakamoʻui ʻae ngaahi vai ni; ʻe ʻikai toe hoko mei ai ha mate pe ha taʻefua.’”
Then he went out to the spring [from which the people in the town got water]. He threw the salt into the spring. Then he said, “This is what Yahweh says: ‘I have made this water good/pure. No longer will anyone die, from having drunk this water, and now crops will be able to grow.’” [LIT]
22 Pea pehē, naʻe fakamoʻui ʻae ngaahi vai ʻo aʻu mai ki he ʻaho ni, ʻo fakatatau ki he lea naʻe lea ʻaki ʻe ʻIlaisiā.
And the water became pure, just as Elisha said it would be. Since that time it has always remained pure.
23 Pea naʻa ne ʻalu hake mei he potu ko ia ki Peteli: pea ʻi heʻene ʻalu hake ʻi he hala, naʻe hū mai mei he kolo ʻae tamaiki iiki, ʻonau manuki kiate ia, mo nau pehē ki ai, “ʻAlu hake, ʻa koe ko e tula; ʻalu hake ʻa koe ko e tula ē.”
Elisha left Jericho and went up to Bethel. As he was walking along the road, a group of young boys from Bethel [saw him and] started to make fun of him. They continued shouting, “Go away, you bald-headed man!”
24 Pea naʻa ne tangaki ki mui, mo ne sio kiate kinautolu, pea ne fakamalaʻiaʻi ʻakinautolu ʻi he huafa ʻo Sihova. Pea naʻe haʻu mei he vao ʻae ongo pea fefine ʻe ua, ʻo na haehae ʻae fānau ʻe toko fāngofulu ma toko ua ʻiate kinautolu.
Elisha turned around and looked/glared at them. He asked Yahweh to (curse them/do something bad to them). Immediately two bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of them.
25 Pea naʻa ne ʻalu atu mei he potu ko ia ki he moʻunga ko Kameli, pea naʻa ne foki mai mei ai ki Samēlia.
Elisha left Bethel and went to Carmel Mountain, and after that he returned to Samaria [city].
