2 Meʻa Hokohoko 14
1 Pea naʻe mohe ʻa ʻApisa mo ʻene ngaahi tamai, pea naʻa nau tanu ia ʻi he kolo ʻa Tevita: pea naʻe fetongi ia ʻi he pule ʻe hono foha ko ʻAsa. Naʻe melino pe ʻae fonua ʻi hono ngaahi ʻaho ʻoʻona ʻi ha taʻu ʻe hongofulu.
When Abijah died, he was buried in [the part of Jerusalem called] ‘The City of David’. His son Asa became the king. While Asa was ruling, there was peace in Judah for ten years.
2 Pea naʻe fai ʻe ʻAsa ʻaia naʻe lelei ʻi he ʻao ʻo Sihova ko hono ʻOtua:
Asa did things that Yahweh his God considers to be right and good.
3 He naʻa ne fetuku ʻo ʻave ke mamaʻo ʻae ngaahi feilaulauʻanga ʻoe ngaahi ʻotua kehe, mo e ngaahi potu māʻolunga: ʻo ne fesiʻi hifo ʻae ngaahi meʻa fakatātā, pea ne tā hifo ʻae ngaahi vao tapu:
His workers got rid of the altars to worship foreign gods that were on the high hills. They smashed the sacred stone pillars and cut down the poles for worshiping [the goddess] Asherah.
4 Pea naʻa ne fekau ki Siuta ke kumi kia Sihova ko e ʻOtua ʻo ʻenau ngaahi tamai, pea ke fai ki he fono mo e fekau.
Asa commanded the people of Judah to worship [only] Yahweh, the God whom their ancestors worshiped, and to obey his laws and commands.
5 Pea naʻa ne liʻaki foki mei he ngaahi kolo kotoa pē ʻo Siuta ʻae ngaahi potu māʻolunga mo e ngaahi meʻa fakatātā: pea naʻe anga fakamelino pe ʻae puleʻanga ʻi hono ʻao.
His workers destroyed all the shrines on the hilltops and the altars for burning incense [to idols] in every town in Judah. As a result, there was peace while Asa ruled the kingdom [of Judah].
6 Pea naʻe langa ʻe ia ʻae ngaahi kolotau ʻi Siuta: he naʻe anga fakamelino pe ʻae fonua, pea naʻe ʻikai ha tau kiate ia ʻi he ngaahi taʻu ko ia: koeʻuhi naʻe foaki ʻe Sihova ʻae fiemālie kiate ia.
His workers built cities and constructed walls around them. No army attacked Judah during that time, because Yahweh enabled them to have peace.
7 Ko ia naʻe pehē ai ʻe ia ki Siuta, “Ke tau langa ʻae ngaahi kolo ni maʻatautolu, pea langa ki ai ʻae ngaahi ā, mo e ngaahi fale māʻolunga, mo e ngaahi matapā, mo e ngaahi ʻakau fakalava, ʻi he kei ʻi hotau ʻao ʻae fonua: ko e meʻa ʻi heʻetau kumi ʻa Sihova ko hotau ʻOtua, naʻa tau kumi ia, pea kuo ne tuku ʻae fiemālie kiate kitautolu ʻi he potu kotoa pē.” Ko ia naʻa nau langa pea monūʻia.
Asa said to the people of Judah, “We should protect these towns by building walls around them, with watchtowers and gates that have bars. This country still belongs to us because we have requested Yahweh our God to help us. We requested him for his help, and he has given us peace in our entire country.” So they built buildings and prospered.
8 Pea naʻe ʻia ʻAsa ʻae kau tangata tau, naʻe fua ʻae ngaahi pā mo e ngaahi tao, ko e toko tolu afe mei Siuta: pea ko e toko ua kilu mo e toko valu mano meia Penisimani naʻe fua pā pea teke ʻae kaufana: ko e kau tangata toʻa mo mālohi ʻakinautolu ni kotoa pē.
Asa had an army of 300,000 men from Judah. They all carried large shields and spears. He also had 280,000 men from the tribe of Benjamin [in his army]. They carried [smaller] shields, and bows [and arrows]. They were all brave soldiers.
9 Pea naʻe haʻu ke tauʻi ʻakinautolu ʻa Sela ko e tangata ʻItiopea mo e fuʻu tau ko e taha miliona, mo e saliote ʻe tolungeau: pea naʻa nau hoko ki Malesa.
Zerah, a man from Ethiopia/Sudan, marched with a huge army and 300 chariots to attack [the army of Judah and Benjamin]. They went as far as [the town of] Mareshah [about 25 miles/southwest of Jerusalem].
10 Pea naʻe toki ʻalu kituaʻā ʻa ʻAsa ko hono tali, pea naʻa nau teuteu ke fai ʻae tau ʻi he potu talalo ʻo Sefata ʻi Malesa.
Asa went [with his army] to fight against them, and both armies took their positions in the Zephathah Valley.
11 Pea naʻe tangi ʻa ʻAsa kia Sihova ko hono ʻOtua, ʻo ne pehē, “ʻE Sihova, ko e meʻa noa pe kiate koe ke tokoni, ki he tokolahi, pe kiate kinautolu ʻoku ʻikai hanau mālohi: ʻE Sihova ko homau ʻOtua, ke ke tokoni kiate kimautolu: he ʻoku mau falala kiate koe, pea ʻi ho huafa ʻoku mau ʻalu atu ki he fuʻu kakai ni. ʻE Sihova, ko koe pe ko homau ʻOtua ʻoua naʻa mālohi ʻae tangata kiate koe.”
Then Asa cried out to Yahweh his God, saying, “Yahweh, there is no one like you who can help those who have very little power to resist a mighty army. Yahweh our God, help us, because we are relying on you; and trusting in you we have come [to fight] against this huge army. Yahweh, you are our God; do not allow anyone to defeat you.”
12 Ko ia naʻe taaʻi ʻe Sihova ʻae kakai ʻItiopea ʻi he ʻao ʻo ʻAsa, mo e ʻao ʻo Siuta pea naʻe hola ʻae kakai ʻItiopea.
Then Yahweh enabled Asa and the army of Judah to defeat the army from Ethiopia. They fled,
13 Pea naʻe tuli ʻakinautolu ʻe ʻAsa mo e kakai naʻe ʻiate ia ʻo aʻu ki Kela: pea ʻi he maveuveu ʻae kakai ʻItiopea, naʻe ʻikai te nau mafai ke toe fakahaofi ʻakinautolu he naʻe fakaʻauha ʻakinautolu ʻi he ʻao ʻo Sihova pea ʻi he ʻao ʻo ʻene tau: pea naʻa nau fetuku ʻo ʻave ʻae vete lahi.
and Asa and his army pursued them [to the southwest] as far as Gerar. A huge number of the soldiers from Ethiopia were killed, with the result that those [who were not killed] were unable to fight any more. They were greatly defeated by Yahweh and his army, and the men of Judah carried away a great amount of their possessions.
14 Pea naʻa nau teʻia ʻae ngaahi kolo kotoa pē naʻe tuʻu takatakai ʻi Kela: he naʻe tō ʻae manavahē kia Sihova kiate kinautolu: pea naʻa nau maumau ʻae ngaahi kolo kotoa pē: he naʻe lahi ʻaupito ʻae koloa ʻi ai.
The men of Judah were able to destroy the people in villages near Gerar because Yahweh had caused the people there to become terrified [and unable to fight]. The army of Judah took away all the valuable things from those villages.
15 Pea naʻa nau teʻia foki ʻae ngaahi fale ʻoe fanga manu lalahi: pea naʻe fetuku ʻo ʻave ʻae fanga sipi mo e fanga kāmeli ke lahi ʻaupito ʻonau liu mai ki Selūsalema.
They also attacked the places where the local people who took care of domestic animals had set up their tents, and they took away big herds of sheep and goats and camels. Then they returned to Jerusalem.
