< 1 Samuela 24 >

1 Pea ʻi he liu mai ʻa Saula mei heʻene tuli ʻae kau Filisitia, pea hoko ʻo pehē, naʻe tala kiate ia, ʻo pehē, “Vakai, ʻoku ʻi he toafa ʻo Eni-Keti ʻa Tevita.”
And it cometh to pass when Saul hath turned back from after the Philistines, that they declare to him, saying, 'Lo, David [is] in the wilderness of En-gedi.'
2 Pea naʻe ʻave ʻe Saula ʻae kau tangata naʻe fili ʻe toko tolu afe mei ʻIsileli kotoa pē, pea naʻe ʻalu ia ke kumi ʻa Tevita mo hono kau tangata ʻi he funga ʻoe ngaahi maka ʻoe fanga kosi kaivao.
And Saul taketh three thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and goeth to seek David and his men, on the front of the rocks of the wild goats,
3 Pea naʻe hoko ia ki he ngaahi lotoʻā sipi ʻi he veʻehala, ʻaia naʻe ʻi ai ʻae ʻana, pea hū ki ai ʻa Saula ke ʻufiʻufi hono vaʻe: pea naʻe ʻi he tafaʻaki ʻana ʻa Tevita mo hono kau tangata.
and he cometh in unto folds of the flock, on the way, and there [is] a cave, and Saul goeth in to cover his feet; and David and his men in the sides of the cave are abiding.
4 Pea pehē ʻe he kau tangata ʻo Tevita kiate ia, “Vakai, ko eni ʻae ʻaho ʻaia naʻe pehē ai ʻe Sihova kiate koe, Vakai, te u tukuange ho fili ki ho nima, koeʻuhi ke ke fai kiate ia ʻaia ʻoku lelei kiate koe.” Pea naʻe tuʻu hake ʻa Tevita ʻo ne heleʻi ʻo motuhi fakafufū ʻae mui kofu ʻo Saula.
And the men of David say unto him, 'Lo, the day of which Jehovah said unto thee, Lo, I am giving thine enemy into thy hand, and thou hast done to him as it is good in thine eyes;' and David riseth and cutteth off the skirt of the upper robe which [is] on Saul — gently.
5 Pea hili ʻa hono fai naʻe tautea ʻa Tevita ʻe hono loto, ko e meʻa ʻi heʻene motuhi ʻae potu ʻoe kofu ʻo Saula.
And it cometh to pass afterwards that the heart of David smiteth him, because that he hath cut off the skirt which [is] on Saul,
6 Pea pehē ʻe ia ki hono kakai, “Ke taʻofi ʻe Sihova ke ʻoua naʻaku fai ʻae meʻa ni ki hoku ʻeiki, ko e fakatapui ʻe Sihova, ke mafao atu hoku nima angatuʻu kiate ia, ka ko e pani ia ʻa Sihova.”
and he saith to his men, 'Far be it from me, by Jehovah; I do not do this thing to my lord — to the anointed of Jehovah — to put forth my hand against him, for the anointed of Jehovah he [is].'
7 Ko ia naʻe taʻofi ʻe Tevita ʻene kau tamaioʻeiki ʻaki ʻae ngaahi lea ni, pea naʻe ʻikai tuku ʻakinautolu kenau tuʻu hake kia Saula. Ka naʻe tuʻu hake ʻa Saula mei he ʻana, pea ʻalu ʻi hono hala.
And David subdueth his men by words, and hath not permitted them to rise against Saul; and Saul hath risen from the cave, and goeth on the way;
8 Pea naʻe tuʻu foki ʻa Tevita ʻo ʻalu kituʻa mei he ʻana, pea kalanga ia kia Saula ʻo pehē, “ʻA hoku ʻeiki ko e tuʻi.” Pea naʻe tafoki ʻo vakai ki mui ʻa Saula, ʻoku tulolo ʻa Tevita hono mata ki he kelekele, pea punou ia.
and David riseth afterwards, and goeth out from the cave, and calleth after Saul, saying, 'My lord, O king!' And Saul looketh attentively behind him, and David boweth — face to the earth — and doth obeisance.
9 Pea naʻe pehē ʻe Tevita kia Saula, “Ko e hā ʻoku ke tokanga ai ki he ngaahi lea ʻae kau tangata, ʻoku pehē, ‘Vakai, ʻoku kumi ʻe Tevita ke ke lavea?’
And David saith to Saul, 'Why dost thou hear the words of man, saying, Lo, David is seeking thine evil?
10 Vakai, kuo ke mamata ʻaki ho mata he ʻaho ni ki heʻene tuku mai koe ʻe Sihova he ʻaho ni ki hoku nima ʻi he ʻana pea naʻe tala ʻe he niʻihi ke u taaʻi koe ka naʻe fakamoʻui koe ʻe hoku mata; pea ne u pehē, ‘ʻE ʻikai te u mafao atu hoku nima ʻo angatuʻu ki hoku ʻeiki he ko e fakatapui ia ʻa Sihova.’
Lo, this day have thine eyes seen how that Jehovah hath given thee to-day into my hand in the cave; and [one] said to slay thee, and [mine eye] hath pity on thee, and I say, I do not put forth my hand against my lord, for the anointed of Jehovah he [is].
11 Pea ko eni foki, ʻa ʻeku tamai, vakai, ʻio, vakai ki he potu ʻo ho kofu ʻi hoku nima: ʻi heʻeku heleʻi ke motu ʻae kapa ʻo ho kofu, ʻo ʻikai te u taaʻi koe, ke ke ʻilo ai mo vakai ʻoku ʻikai ha kovi pe ha angahala ʻi hoku nima, pea kuo ʻikai te u fai angahala kiate koe; ka ʻoku ke tuli ʻa ʻeku moʻui ke taaʻi ia.
'And, my father, see, yea see the skirt of thine upper robe in my hand; for by cutting off the skirt of thy upper robe, and I have not slain thee, know and see that there is not in my hand evil and transgression, and I have not sinned against thee, and thou art hunting my soul to take it!
12 Ke fakamaauʻi ʻe Sihova kiate au mo koe, pea totongi kiate koe ʻe Sihova koeʻuhi ko au: ka ʻe ʻikai ʻiate koe ʻa hoku nima ʻoʻoku.
'Jehovah doth judge between me and thee, and Jehovah hath avenged me of thee, and my hand is not on thee;
13 Kae hangē: ko e lea ʻae mātuʻa ʻi muʻa, ‘ʻOku tupu ʻae fai kovi mei he angakovi’ ka ʻe ʻikai ʻiate koe ʻa hoku nima.
as saith the simile of the ancients, From the wicked goeth out wickedness, and my hand is not on thee.
14 Kuo haʻu ʻae tuʻi ʻo ʻIsileli ʻo tuli kia hai? ʻOku ke tulia ʻa hai? Ko e kulī mate, ko e kutufisi.
'After whom hath the king of Israel come out? after whom art thou pursuing? — after a dead dog! after one flea!
15 Ko ia ke fakamaau ʻe Sihova, pea fakamaau kiate au mo koe, pea vakai, ʻo langomakiʻi au, pea fakamoʻui au mei ho nima.”
And Jehovah hath been for judge, and hath judged between me and thee, yea, he seeth and pleadeth my cause, and doth deliver me out of thy hand.'
16 Pea naʻe hoko ʻo pehē, ʻi he fakaʻosi ʻe Tevita ʻae ngaahi lea ni kia Saula, naʻe pehē ʻe Saula, “He ko ho leʻo eni, ʻE Tevita ko hoku foha?” Pea naʻe hiki hono leʻo ʻe Saula ʻo ne tangi.
And it cometh to pass, when David completeth to speak these words unto Saul, that Saul saith, 'Is this thy voice, my son David?' and Saul lifteth up his voice, and weepeth.
17 Pea naʻe pehē ʻe ia kia Tevita, “ʻOku ke angatonu lahi koe ʻiate au: he kuo ke totongi lelei kiate au, ka kuo u totongi kovi kiate koe.
And he saith unto David, 'More righteous thou [art] than I; for thou hast done me good, and I have done thee evil;
18 Pea kuo ke fakahā he ʻaho ni ʻa hoʻo fai lelei kiate au: koeʻuhi ʻi he tukuange au ʻe Sihova ki ho nima, naʻe ʻikai te ke tāmateʻi au.
and thou hast declared to-day how that thou hast done good with me, how that Jehovah shut me up into thy hand, and thou didst not slay me,
19 He kapau ʻoku ʻilo ʻe ha tangata hono fili, te ne tuku ke toe ʻalu moʻui? Ko ia ke totongi lelei ʻe Sihova kiate koe, ʻi he meʻa kuo ke fai kiate au he ʻaho ni.
and that a man doth find his enemy, and hath sent him away in a good manner; and Jehovah doth repay thee good for that which thou didst to me this day.
20 Pea ko eni, vakai, ʻOku ou ʻilo pau ko e moʻoni te ke hoko ke tuʻi, pea ʻe fakatuʻumaʻu ʻae puleʻanga ʻo ʻIsileli ʻiate koe.
'And, now, lo, I have known that thou dost certainly reign, and the kingdom of Israel hath stood in thy hand;
21 Ko ia ke ke fuakava ni kiate au ʻia Sihova, ke ʻoua naʻa ke motuhi hoku hako kimui ʻiate au, pea ʻoua naʻa ke fakaʻauha hoku hingoa mei he fale ʻo ʻeku tamai.”
and, now, swear to me by Jehovah — thou dost not cut off my seed after me, nor dost thou destroy my name from the house of my father.'
22 Pea naʻe fuakava ʻe Tevita kia Saula, pea ʻalu ʻa Saula ki hono ʻapi, ka naʻe ʻalu hake ʻa Tevita mo hono kau tangata ki he toitoiʻanga.
And David sweareth to Saul, and Saul goeth unto his house, and David and his men have gone up unto the fortress.
