< 1 Tuʻi 21 >
1 Pea hili ʻae ngaahi meʻa ni, naʻe maʻu ha ngoue vaine ʻe Napoti ko e tangata Sesilili, ʻaia naʻe ʻi Sesilili ʻo vāofi mo e fale fakaʻeiʻeiki ʻo ʻEhapi ko e tuʻi ʻo Samēlia.
And it came to pass after these things, [that] Naboth the Jizreelite had a vineyard, which was in Jizreel, by the side of the palace of Ahab king of Samaria.
And Ahab spoke to Naboth saying, Give me thy vineyard, that I may have it for a garden of herbs, for it is near, by the side of my house; and I will give thee for it a better vineyard than it; if it seem good to thee, I will give thee its value in money.
3 Pea naʻe pehē ʻe Napoti kia ʻEhapi, “Ke taʻofi au mei ai ʻe Sihova, ʻa ʻeku foaki ʻae tofiʻa ʻo ʻeku ngaahi tamai kiate koe.”
And Naboth said to Ahab, Jehovah forbid it me, that I should give the inheritance of my fathers to thee!
4 Pea naʻe hū atu ʻa ʻEhapi ki hono fale kuo māfasia mo mamahi koeʻuhi ko e lea naʻe lea ʻaki kiate ia ʻe Napoti ko e tangata Sesilili; he kuo pehē ʻe ia, ʻe ʻikai siʻi te u foaki ʻae tofiʻa ʻo ʻeku ngaahi tamai kiate koe. Pea naʻa ne tokoto hifo ʻi hono mohenga, pea ne tafoki atu ʻa hono mata, pea naʻe ʻikai te ne kai ha meʻa.
And Ahab came into his house sullen and vexed because of the word that Naboth the Jizreelite had spoken to him; for he had said, I will not give thee the inheritance of my fathers. And he lay down on his bed, and turned away his face, and ate no bread.
5 Ka naʻe haʻu kiate ia ʻa Sisipeli ko hono uaifi mo ne pehē kiate ia, “Ko e hā ʻoku mamahi pehē fau ai ho loto, ʻoku ʻikai ai te ke kai ha meʻa?”
And Jezebel his wife came to him, and said to him, Why is thy spirit sullen, and thou eatest no bread?
6 Pea naʻe pehē ʻe ia kiate ia, “Koeʻuhi naʻaku lea kia Napoti ko e tangata Sesilili, pea u pehē kiate ia, ‘Tuku mai kiate au hoʻo ngoue vaine ʻi ha totongi; pea kapau ʻe lelei kiate koe te u ʻatu ha ngoue vaine kehe ko hono fetongi:’ pea naʻa ne pehē mai, ‘ʻE ʻikai te u foaki kiate koe ʻa ʻeku ngoue vaine.’”
And he said to her, Because I spoke to Naboth the Jizreelite and said to him, Give me thy vineyard for money; or else, if it please thee, I will give thee a vineyard for it; and he said, I will not give thee my vineyard.
7 Pea naʻe pehē kiate ia ʻe Sisipeli ko hono uaifi, “ʻOku ke pule eni koā ki he puleʻanga ʻo ʻIsileli? Tuʻu hake, mo ke kai, pea tuku ke fiefia ho loto: te u ʻatu ʻeau kiate koe ʻae ngoue vaine ʻo Napoti ko e tangata Sesilili.”
And Jezebel his wife said to him, Dost thou now exercise sovereignty over Israel? arise, eat bread, and let thy heart be glad: I will give thee the vineyard of Naboth the Jizreelite.
8 Ko ia naʻa ne fai ʻae ngaahi tohi ʻi he hingoa ʻo ʻEhapi, mo ne fakamaʻu ia ʻaki ʻa ʻene fakaʻilonga, mo ne ʻave ʻae ngaahi tohi ki he kau mātuʻa, mo e houʻeiki naʻe nonofo mo Napoti ʻi hono kolo.
And she wrote a letter in Ahab's name, and sealed it with his seal, and sent the letter to the elders and to the nobles that were in his city, dwelling with Naboth.
9 Pea naʻa ne tohi ʻi he ngaahi tohi, ʻo pehē, “Fanongonongo ha ʻaukai, pea ʻai ke māʻolunga hake ʻa Napoti ʻi he kakai:
And she wrote in the letter saying, Proclaim a fast, and set Naboth at the head of the people;
10 Pea tuku ha tangata ʻe toko ua, ko e fānau ʻoe angakovi, ke tuʻu ʻi hono ʻao, mo talatalaakiʻi ia, ʻo pehē, “Naʻa ke lea kapekape ki he ʻOtua pea mo e tuʻi.” Pea mou ʻave ia, mo lisingi ʻaki ʻae maka, ke ne mate ai.”
and set two men, sons of Belial, before him, and they shall bear witness against him saying, Thou didst curse God and the king; and carry him out, and stone him, that he may die.
11 Pea naʻe fai ʻe he kau tangata ʻo hono kolo, pea mo e kau mātuʻa, mo e houʻeiki ʻaia naʻe nofo ʻi hono kolo, ʻo hangē ko ia naʻe fekau ʻe Sisipeli kiate kinautolu, pea hangē ko e tohi ʻi he ngaahi tohi ʻaia naʻa ne ʻatu kiate kinautolu.
And the men of his city, the elders and the nobles that dwelt in his city, did as Jezebel had sent to them, as it was written in the letter that she had sent to them:
12 Naʻa nau fanongonongo ʻae ʻaukai, mo [nau ]fakamāʻolunga hake ʻa Napoti ʻi he kakai.
they proclaimed a fast, and set Naboth at the head of the people.
13 Pea naʻe hū mai ha ongo tangata, ko e fānau ʻoe angakovi, ʻo na nofo ʻi hono ʻao: pea naʻe talatalaakiʻi ia ʻe he ongo tangata ʻoe angakovi, ʻio, kia Napoti, ʻi he ʻao ʻoe kakai, ʻo pehē, naʻe lea kapekape ʻa Napoti ki he ʻOtua pea mo e tuʻi. Pea naʻa nau toki ʻave ia ki he tuaʻā kolo, mo lisingi ia ʻaki ʻae ngaahi maka ke ne mate.
And there came the two men, sons of Belial, and sat before him; and the men of Belial witnessed against him, against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, Naboth blasphemed God and the king. And they carried him forth out of the city, and stoned him with stones, that he died.
14 Pea hili ia naʻa nau fekau kia Sisipeli, ʻo pehē, “Kuo lisingi ʻa Napoti pea kuo ne mate.”
And they sent to Jezebel saying, Naboth is stoned, and is dead.
15 Pea ʻi heʻene fanongo ʻe Sisipeli kuo lisingi ʻa Napoti pea kuo ne mate, naʻe pehē ʻe Sisipeli kia ʻEhapi, “Tuʻu hake, mo maʻu ʻae ngoue vaine ʻo Napoti ko e tangata Sesilili, ʻaia naʻe ʻikai te ne fie tuku kiate koe ʻi ha paʻanga: he ʻoku ʻikai moʻui ʻa Napoti ka kuo mate.”
And it came to pass when Jezebel heard that Naboth was stoned and was dead, that Jezebel said to Ahab, Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jizreelite, which he refused to give thee for money; for Naboth is not alive, but dead.
16 Pea ʻi heʻene fanongo ʻe ʻEhapi kuo mate ʻa Napoti, naʻe tuʻu hake ʻa ʻEhapi ke ne ʻalu hifo ki he ngoue vaine ʻo Napoti ko e tangata Sesilili, ke ne maʻu ia maʻana.
And it came to pass when Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, that Ahab rose up to go down to the vineyard of Naboth the Jizreelite, to take possession of it.
17 Pea naʻe hoko mai ʻae folofola ʻa Sihova kia ʻIlaisiā ko e tangata Tisipa, ʻo pehē,
And the word of Jehovah came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying,
Arise, go down to meet Ahab king of Israel, who is in Samaria: behold, he is in the vineyard of Naboth, whither he is gone down to take possession of it.
19 Pea te ke lea kiate ia, ʻo pehē, ‘ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova, Kuo ke fai ʻae fakapō, pea kuo ke maʻu foki maʻau? Pea te ke lea kiate ia, ʻo pehē, ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova, ʻI he potu ko ia naʻe ʻemo ai ʻe he fanga kulī ʻae toto ʻo Napoti ʻe ʻemo ai ʻe he fanga kulī ho toto ʻoʻou, ʻio, ʻoʻou.’”
And thou shalt speak unto him saying, Thus saith Jehovah: Hast thou killed, and also taken possession? And thou shalt speak unto him saying, Thus saith Jehovah: In the place where the dogs licked the blood of Naboth shall the dogs lick thy blood, even thine.
20 Pea naʻe pehē ʻe ʻEhapi kia ʻIlaisiā, “Kuo ke ʻiloʻi au, ʻa koe ko hoku fili?” Pea naʻa ne pehēange, “Kuo u ʻiloʻi koe; koeʻuhi kuo ke fakatau atu koe ke fai ha ngāue kovi ʻi he ʻao ʻo Sihova.
And Ahab said to Elijah, Hast thou found me, mine enemy? And he said, I have found [thee]; because thou hast sold thyself to do evil in the sight of Jehovah.
21 ‘Vakai, te u fakahoko mai ʻae kovi kiate koe, pea te u toʻo ʻo ʻave ho hako, pea te u motuhi meia ʻEhapi ʻae kakai tangata, pea mo ia kuo tāpuni mo toe ʻi ʻIsileli,
Behold, I will bring evil upon thee, and will take away thy posterity, and will cut off from Ahab every male, and him that is shut up and left in Israel;
22 Pea [te u ]ngaohi ho fale ke hangē ko e fale ʻo Selopoami ko e foha ʻo Nipati, pea hangē ko e fale ʻo Paʻasa ko e foha ʻo ʻAhisa, ko e meʻa ʻi he kovi kuo ke fakatupu ai ʻeku houhau, mo ke fakaangahala ai ʻa ʻIsileli.’
and I will make thy house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah, for the provocation wherewith thou hast provoked me to anger, and made Israel to sin.
23 Pea ia Sisipeli foki naʻe folofola ai ʻa Sihova, ʻo pehē, ʻE kai ʻa Sisipeli ʻe he fanga kulī ʻi he veʻe ʻa ʻo Sesilili.
And of Jezebel also spoke Jehovah saying, The dogs shall eat Jezebel by the moat of Jizreel.
24 Ko ia ʻoku kau kia ʻEhapi ʻe mate ʻi he kolo ʻe kai ia ʻe he fanga kulī: pea ko ia ʻoku mate ʻi he ngoue ʻe keina ʻe he fanga manupuna ʻoe ʻatā.
Him that dieth of Ahab in the city shall the dogs eat, and him that dieth in the field shall the fowl of the heavens eat.
25 (“Ka naʻe ʻikai tatau ha tokotaha mo ʻEhapi, ʻaia naʻa ne fakatau ia ke fai ʻae ngāue kovi ʻi he ʻao ʻo Sihova, ʻaia naʻe ueʻi hake ʻe hono uaifi ko Sisipeli.
(Surely there was none like to Ahab, who did sell himself to do evil in the sight of Jehovah, Jezebel his wife urging him on.
26 Pea naʻa ne fai ʻo fakalielia lahi ʻi he muimui ki he ngaahi tamapua, ʻo tatau mo ia kotoa pē naʻe fai ʻe he kakai ʻAmoli, ʻakinautolu naʻe kapusi atu ʻe Sihova mei he ʻao ʻoe fānau ʻa ʻIsileli.)
And he did very abominably in following idols, according to all that the Amorites did, whom Jehovah had dispossessed before the children of Israel.)
27 Pea ʻi heʻene fanongo ʻe ʻEhapi ki he ngaahi lea ni, naʻa ne haehae hono ngaahi kofu, mo ne ʻai ʻae tauangaʻa ki hono sino, ʻo ne ʻaukai, mo ne tokoto hifo ʻi he tauangaʻa, mo ne ʻalu fakaʻehiʻehi.
And it came to pass when Ahab heard these words, that he rent his garments, and put sackcloth upon his flesh, and fasted, and lay in sackcloth, and went softly.
28 Pea naʻe hoko mai ʻae folofola ʻa Sihova kia ʻIlaisiā ko e tangata Tisipa, ʻo pehē,
And the word of Jehovah came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying,
29 “ʻOku ke mamata kia ʻEhapi mo ʻene fakavaivaiʻi ia ʻi hoku ʻao? Ko e meʻa ʻi heʻene fakavaivaiʻi ia ʻi hoku ʻao, ʻe ʻikai ai te u ʻomi ʻae kovi ʻi hono ngaahi ʻaho ʻoʻona: ka ʻi he ngaahi ʻaho ʻo hono foha te u ʻomi ʻae kovi ki hono fale.”
Seest thou how Ahab humbleth himself before me? because he humbleth himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days: in his son's days will I bring the evil upon his house.
