1 ‌ʻA ʻeku fānau ʻofeina, ʻoku ou tohi ʻae ngaahi meʻa ni kiate kimoutolu, ke ʻoua naʻa mou angahala. Pea kapau ʻe angahala ha taha, ʻoku ai hotau fakalelei ki he Tamai, ko Sisu Kalaisi ko e māʻoniʻoni
My little children, I write these things to you so that you may not sin. If anyone sins, we have a Counselor with the Father, Jesus Christ, the righteous.
2 Pea ko e feilaulau totongi ia ʻi heʻetau ngaahi angahala: pea ʻikai ʻatautolu pe, ka koeʻuhi ko māmani kotoa pē.
And he is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the whole world.
3 Pea ko eni ʻoku tau ʻilo ai ʻoku tau ʻilo ia, ʻo kapau ʻoku tau fai ʻene ngaahi fekau.
This is how we know that we know him: if we keep his commandments.
4 Ko ia ʻoku ne pehē, ʻOku ou ʻilo ia, ka ʻoku ʻikai fai ʻene ngaahi fekau, ko e loi ia, pea ʻoku ʻikai ʻiate ia ʻae moʻoni.
One who says, “I know him,” and doesn’t keep his commandments, is a liar, and the truth isn’t in him.
5 Ka ko ia ʻoku ne fai ki heʻene folofola, kuo fakahaohaoa moʻoni ʻiate ia ʻae ʻofa ʻae ʻOtua: ko eni ia ʻoku tau ʻilo ai ʻoku tau ʻiate ia.
But God’s love has most certainly been perfected in whoever keeps his word. This is how we know that we are in him:
6 Ko ia ia ʻoku ne pehē, ʻoku nofo ia kiate ia, ʻoku totonu ke ne ʻeveʻeva foki ʻo hangē ko ʻene ʻeveʻeva ʻaʻana.
he who says he remains in him ought himself also to walk just like he walked.
7 ‌ʻE kāinga, ʻoku ʻikai te u tohi ha fekau foʻou kiate kimoutolu, ka ko e fekau motuʻa, naʻa mou maʻu mei he kamataʻanga. Ko e fekau motuʻa ko e folofola ia, ʻaia kuo mou ongoʻi mei he kamataʻanga.
Brothers, I write no new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which you heard from the beginning.
8 Ko eni foki, ʻoku ou tohi ʻae fekau foʻou kiate kimoutolu, ʻae meʻa ko ia ʻoku moʻoni kiate ia mo kimoutolu: he kuo mole atu ʻae fakapoʻuli, pea ʻoku ulo ni ʻae maama moʻoni.
Again, I write a new commandment to you, which is true in him and in you, because the darkness is passing away and the true light already shines.
9 Ko ia ʻoku ne pehē, ʻoku ʻi he maama ia, ka ʻoku fehiʻa ki hono tokoua, ʻoku kei ʻi he poʻuli ia.
He who says he is in the light and hates his brother is in the darkness even until now.
10 Ko ia ʻoku ʻofa ki hono tokoua, ʻoku nofo ia ʻi he maama, pea ʻoku ʻikai ʻiate ia ha tūkiaʻanga.
He who loves his brother remains in the light, and there is no occasion for stumbling in him.
11 Ka ko ia ʻoku fehiʻa ki hono tokoua, ʻoku ʻi he poʻuli ia, pea ʻoku ʻeveʻeva ʻi he poʻuli, ʻo ʻikai ʻilo pe ʻoku ne ʻalu ki fē, he kuo fakakui hono mata ʻe he poʻuli.
But he who hates his brother is in the darkness, and walks in the darkness, and doesn’t know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.
12 ‌ʻOku ou tohi kiate kimoutolu, ʻae fānau ʻofeina, koeʻuhi kuo fakamolemolea hoʻomou angahala koeʻuhi ko hono huafa.
I write to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name’s sake.
13 ‌ʻOku ou tohi kiate kimoutolu, ʻae ngaahi tamai, koeʻuhi kuo mou ʻiloʻi ia ʻoku mei he kamataʻanga. ʻOku ou tohi kiate kimoutolu, ʻae kau talavou, koeʻuhi kuo mou ikuna ʻae tokotaha angakovi. ʻOku ou tohi kiate kimoutolu, ʻae fānau siʻi, koeʻuhi kuo mou ʻiloʻi ʻae Tamai.
I write to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I write to you, little children, because you know the Father.
14 Kuo u tohi kiate kimoutolu, ʻae ngaahi tamai, koeʻuhi kuo mou ʻiloʻi ia ʻoku mei he kamataʻanga. Kuo u tohi kiate kimoutolu, ʻae kau talavou, koeʻuhi ʻoku mou mālohi, pea ʻoku nofoʻia ʻakimoutolu ʻe he folofola ʻae ʻOtua, pea kuo mou ikuʻi ʻae tokotaha angakovi.
I have written to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God remains in you, and you have overcome the evil one.
15 ‌ʻOua naʻa ʻofa ki māmani, pe ki he ngaahi meʻa ʻi he māmani. Kapau ʻoku ʻofa ha taha ki māmani, ʻoku ʻikai ʻiate ia ʻae ʻofa ʻae Tamai.
Don’t love the world or the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, the Father’s love isn’t in him.
16 He ko e meʻa kotoa pē ʻoku ʻi he māmani, ko e holi ʻoe kakano, pea mo e holi ʻoe mata, mo e laukau ʻoe moʻui, ʻoku ʻikai ʻoe Tamai, ka ʻoku ʻoe māmani ia.
For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—isn’t the Father’s, but is the world’s.
17 Pea ʻoku mole ange ʻa māmani, pea mo e holi ʻo ia: ka ko ia ʻoku ne fai ʻae finangalo ʻoe ʻOtua, ʻoku nofomaʻu ia ʻo taʻengata. (aiōn g165)
The world is passing away with its lusts, but he who does God’s will remains forever.
Little children, these are the end times, and as you heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have arisen. By this we know that it is the final hour.
19 Naʻa nau ʻalu atu meiate kitautolu, ka naʻe ʻikai ke nau ʻotautolu; he ka ne ʻotautolu ʻakinautolu, pehē, kuo nau nofomaʻu mo kitautolu: ka ko e meʻa ia, ke hā ai naʻe ʻikai ʻotautolu ʻakinautolu kotoa pē.
They went out from us, but they didn’t belong to us; for if they had belonged to us, they would have continued with us. But they left, that they might be revealed that none of them belong to us.
20 Ka kuo mou maʻu ʻae pani mei he tokotaha māʻoniʻoni, pea ʻoku mou ʻiloʻi ʻae meʻa kotoa pē.
You have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all have knowledge.
21 Kuo ʻikai te u tohi kiate kimoutolu, koeʻuhi ʻoku ʻikai te mou ʻiloʻi ʻae moʻoni, ka koeʻuhi ʻoku mou ʻiloʻi ia, pea ʻoku ʻikai ha loi ʻe tupu ʻi he moʻoni.
I have not written to you because you don’t know the truth, but because you know it, and because no lie is of the truth.
22 Ko hai ia ʻoku loi, ka ko ia ʻoku ne fakafisinga ʻoku ʻikai ko e Kalaisi ʻa Sisu? Ko e fili ʻo Kalaisi ia, ʻaia ʻoku ne fakafisinga ʻi he Tamai mo e ʻAlo.
Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the Antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son.
23 Ko ia kotoa pē ʻoku ne fakafisinga ʻi he ʻAlo ʻoku ʻikai ʻiate ia ʻae Tamai.
Whoever denies the Son doesn’t have the Father. He who confesses the Son has the Father also.
24 Ko ia, tuku ke nofomaʻu ʻiate kimoutolu ʻaia kuo mou fanongo mei he kamataʻanga. Kapau ʻe nofoʻia ʻakimoutolu ʻe he meʻa kuo mou ongoʻi mei he kamataʻanga, pehē ʻe nofomaʻu foki ʻakimoutolu ʻi he ʻAlo, pea mo e Tamai.
Therefore, as for you, let that remain in you which you heard from the beginning. If that which you heard from the beginning remains in you, you also will remain in the Son, and in the Father.
25 Pea ko eni ʻae talaʻofa, ʻaia kuo ne talaʻofa ai kiate kitautolu, ko e moʻui taʻengata. (aiōnios g166)
This is the promise which he promised us, the eternal life. (aiōnios g166)
26 Ko e ngaahi meʻa eni kuo u tohi kiate kimoutolu, koeʻuhi ko kinautolu ʻoku kākaaʻi ʻakimoutolu.
These things I have written to you concerning those who would lead you astray.
27 Ka ʻoku nofoʻia ʻakimoutolu ʻe he pani ʻoku mou maʻu meiate ia, pea ʻoku ʻikai ʻaonga ke akonakiʻi ʻakimoutolu ʻe ha taha: kae hangē ʻoku akonakiʻi ʻakimoutolu ʻe he pani ko ia ʻi he meʻa kotoa pē, pea ʻoku moʻoni ia, pea ʻoku ʻikai ko e loi, ʻio, ʻo hangē ko ʻene akonekina ʻakimoutolu, ke mou nofo pehē kiate ia.
As for you, the anointing which you received from him remains in you, and you don’t need for anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is no lie, and even as it taught you, you will remain in him.
28 Pea ko eni, ʻe fānau ʻofeina, mou nofo pe kiate ia; koeʻuhi, ʻoka hā mai ia, ketau maʻu ai ʻae mālohi, pea ʻikai mā ʻi hono ʻao, ʻi heʻene hāʻele mai.
Now, little children, remain in him, that when he appears, we may have boldness and not be ashamed before him at his coming.
29 Kapau ʻoku mou ʻilo ʻoku māʻoniʻoni ia, ʻoku mou ʻilo foki, ko ia kotoa pē ʻoku ne fai māʻoniʻoni, kuo fanauʻi ia ʻiate ia.
If you know that he is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness has been born of him.
