< 1 Meʻa Hokohoko 23 >
1 Ko ia, ʻi heʻene hoko ʻo motuʻa lahi ʻa Tevita pea kakato ʻa hono ngaahi ʻaho, naʻa ne tuku ʻa Solomone ko hono foha ke ne tuʻi ki ʻIsileli.
When David was old and full of years, he installed his son Solomon as king over Israel.
2 Pea naʻa ne tānaki fakataha ʻae houʻeiki kotoa pē ʻo ʻIsileli, mo e kau taulaʻeiki pea mo e kau Livai.
Then he gathered all the leaders of Israel, as well as the priests and Levites.
3 Ka ko eni, naʻe lau hono tokolahi ʻoe kau Livai mei he taʻu ʻe tolungofulu ʻo fai hake: pea ko honau lau fakatefua, ʻae tangata taki taha, ko e tokotolu mano mo e toko valu afe.
The Levites thirty years of age or older were counted, and the total number of men was 38,000.
4 Pea naʻe ʻoe toko ua mano mo e toko fā afe ʻae tokanga ki he ngāue ki he fale ʻo Sihova; pea ko e toko ono afe, ko e kau pule mo e kau fakamaau ʻakinautolu.
“Of these,” said David, “24,000 are to oversee the work of the house of the LORD, 6,000 are to be officers and judges,
5 Pea ko e kau leʻo matapā ʻae toko fā afe; pea ko e toko fā afe naʻe hiva kia Sihova ʻaki ʻae ngaahi meʻa hiva ʻaia naʻe ngaohi ke fai ʻaki ʻae fakafetaʻi.
4,000 are to be gatekeepers, and 4,000 are to praise the LORD with the instruments I have made for giving praise.”
6 Pea naʻe vahe fakalakanga ʻakinautolu ʻe Tevita, ki he ngaahi foha ʻo Livai, kia Kesomi, mo Kohate, pea mo Melali.
Then David divided the Levites into divisions according to the sons of Levi: Gershom, Kohath, and Merari.
7 Naʻe ʻoe kau Kesomi, ʻa Latani, pea mo Simi.
The Gershonites: Ladan and Shimei.
8 Ko e ngaahi foha eni ʻo Latani; ko honau tuʻukimuʻa ʻa Sieli, mo Sitami, mo Soeli, ko e tokotolu.
The sons of Ladan: Jehiel the first, Zetham, and Joel—three in all.
9 Ko e ngaahi foha ʻo Simi; ko Silomiti, mo ʻAsieli, mo Halani, ko e tokotolu. Ko e kau tuʻukimuʻa ʻakinautolu ni ʻi he kau mātuʻa ʻo Latani.
The sons of Shimei: Shelomoth, Haziel, and Haran—three in all. These were the heads of the families of Ladan.
10 Pea ko e ngaahi foha eni ʻo Simi; ko Sehati, mo Sina, mo Siusi, mo Pelia. Ko e toko fā ni ko e ngaahi foha ʻo Simi
And the sons of Shimei: Jahath, Zina, Jeush, and Beriah. These were the sons of Shimei—four in all.
11 Pea naʻe tuʻukimuʻa ʻi ai ʻa Sehati, pea hoko mo ia ʻa Sisa: ka naʻe ʻikai ke tokolahi ʻae ngaahi foha ʻo Siusi mo Pelia; ko ia naʻe lau fakataha ai ʻakinaua ʻo fakatatau mo e fale ʻo ʻena tamai.
Jahath was the first and Zizah was the second; but Jeush and Beriah did not have many sons, so they were counted as one family and received a single assignment.
12 Ko e ngaahi foha eni ʻo Kohate: ko ʻAmilami, mo ʻIsa, mo Hepeloni, mo ʻUsili, ko e toko fā.
The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel—four in all.
13 Pea ko e ngaahi foha eni ʻo ʻAmilami ko ʻElone mo Mōsese: pea naʻe vaheʻi ʻa ʻElone, koeʻuhi ke ne fakatapui ʻae ngaahi meʻa māʻoniʻoni lahi, ʻe ia mo hono ngaahi foha ke lauikuonga, ke tutu ʻae meʻa namu kakala ʻi he ʻao ʻo Sihova, pea ke tauhi kiate ia, pea ke fakafetaʻi ki hono huafa ʻo taʻengata.
The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses. Aaron and his descendants were set apart forever to consecrate the most holy things, to burn incense before the LORD, to minister before Him, and to pronounce blessings in His name forever.
14 Pea koeʻuhi ko Mōsese ko e tangata ʻae ʻOtua, naʻe lau ʻa hono ngaahi foha ki he faʻahinga ʻo Livai.
As for Moses the man of God, his sons were named among the tribe of Levi.
15 Ko e ngaahi foha eni ʻo Mōsese: ko Kesomi, mo ʻEliesa.
The sons of Moses: Gershom and Eliezer.
16 ʻI he ngaahi foha ʻo Kesomi, naʻe tuʻukimuʻa ʻa Sipueli.
The descendants of Gershom: Shebuel was the first.
17 Pea ko e ngaahi foha eni ʻo ʻEliesa ko hono tuʻukimuʻa ʻa Lihapea. Pea naʻe ʻikai mo ha ngaahi foha ʻo ʻEliesa, ka naʻe tokolahi ʻaupito ʻae ngaahi foha ʻo Lihapea.
The descendants of Eliezer: Rehabiah was the first. Eliezer did not have any other sons, but the sons of Rehabiah were very numerous.
18 ʻI he ngaahi foha ʻo ʻIsa: ko hono tuʻukimuʻa ʻa Silomiti.
The sons of Izhar: Shelomith was the first.
19 ʻI he ngaahi foha ʻo Hepeloni; ko e ʻuluaki ʻa Selia, ko hono toko ua ʻa ʻAmalia, ko hono tokotolu ʻa Saesieli, pea ko hono toko fā ʻa Sikamiami.
The sons of Hebron: Jeriah was the first, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth.
20 ʻI he ngaahi foha ʻo ʻUsili: ko hono ʻuluaki ʻa Maika, pea ko hono tokoua ʻa Sisia.
The sons of Uzziel: Micah was the first and Isshiah the second.
21 Pea ko e ngaahi foha eni ʻo Melali ko Mali mo Musi. Ko e ngaahi foha ʻo Mali; ko ʻEliesa mo Kisi.
The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli: Eleazar and Kish.
Eleazar died without having any sons; he had only daughters. Their cousins, the sons of Kish, married them.
23 Ko e ngaahi foha ʻo Musi eni: ko Mali, mo Iteli, mo Selimoti, ko e tokotolu.
The sons of Mushi: Mahli, Eder, and Jeremoth —three in all.
24 Ko kinautolu eni ko e ngaahi foha ʻo Livai ʻo fakatatau mo e fale ʻo ʻenau ngaahi tamai; ko e kau tuʻukimuʻa ʻi heʻenau ngaahi tamai, ʻo hangē ko e lau hake ʻakinautolu ʻi honau lakanga, ʻakinautolu naʻe fai ʻae ngāue ʻoe tauhi ʻi he fale ʻo Sihova, mei he taʻu ʻe uofulu ʻo ʻenau motuʻa ʻo fai hake.
These were the descendants of Levi by their families—the heads of families, registered individually by name—those twenty years of age or older who worked in the service of the house of the LORD.
25 He naʻe pehē ʻe Tevita, “Kuo foaki ʻe Sihova ko e ʻOtua ʻo ʻIsileli, ʻae mālōlō ki hono kakai, koeʻuhi ke nau nofo ʻi Selūsalema ʻo taʻengata:
For David had said, “The LORD, the God of Israel, has given rest to His people and has come to dwell in Jerusalem forever.
26 Pea ki he kau Livai foki; ʻe ʻikai te nau kei fua ʻae fale fehikitaki, pe ko e ngaahi ipu ʻi ai ʻoku fai ʻaki ʻa hono ngāue.”
So now the Levites no longer need to carry the tabernacle or any of the articles for its service.”
27 He ko e ngaahi lea fakamuimui ʻa Tevita naʻe lau ai ʻae kau Livai mei he uofulu taʻu ʻo ʻenau motuʻa ʻo fai hake:
For according to the final instructions of David, the Levites twenty years of age or older were counted,
28 He ko ʻenau ngāue ʻanautolu ke tali fekau ki he ngaahi foha ʻo ʻElone, ʻi he ngāue ʻoe fale ʻo Sihova, ʻi he ngaahi lotoʻā, pea ʻi he ngaahi potu fale, pea ʻi he fakamaʻa ʻae ngaahi meʻa tapu kotoa pē, pea ʻi he ngāue ʻoe tauhi ki he fale ʻoe ʻOtua;
but their duty was to assist the descendants of Aaron with the service of the house of the LORD, being responsible for the courts and chambers, the purification of all the holy things, and the work of the service of the house of God,
29 ʻI he tokonaki ʻae mā ʻoe ʻao, mo e mahoaʻa lelei ki he feilaulau meʻakai, pea mo e foʻi mā manifi naʻe ʻikai fakalēvani, pea mo ia naʻe fakapaku, pea mo ia naʻe tunu, pea ʻi he faʻahinga meʻa fuofua kotoa pē;
as well as for the rows of the showbread, the fine flour for the grain offering, the wafers of unleavened bread, the baking, the mixing, and all measurements of quantity and size.
30 Pea ke nau tuʻu ʻi he pongipongi kotoa pē ke fakafetaʻi mo hiva kia Sihova, pea ke pehē foki ʻi he efiafi;
They were also to stand every morning to give thanks and praise to the LORD, and likewise in the evening.
31 Pea ke ʻohake ʻae ngaahi feilaulau tutu kia Sihova ʻi he ngaahi ʻaho tapu, pea ʻi he ngaahi māhina foʻou, pea ʻi he ngaahi kātoanga naʻe kotofa, ʻo hangē ko hono lau, pea fakatatau mo hono lakanga naʻe fekauʻi kiate kinautolu, ʻo maʻuaipē ʻi he ʻao ʻo Sihova:
Whenever burnt offerings were presented to the LORD on the Sabbaths, New Moons, and appointed feasts, they were to serve regularly before the LORD in the numbers prescribed for them.
32 Pea koeʻuhi ke nau tokanga ki he tauhi ʻoe fale fehikitaki ʻoe fakataha, mo e tokanga ki he potu toputapu, mo e tokanga ki he ngaahi foha ʻo ʻElone ko honau kāinga, ʻi he ngāue ʻoe fale ʻo Sihova.
So the Levites were to carry out the responsibilities for the Tent of Meeting and the Holy Place, and, under their brothers the descendants of Aaron, the service of the house of the LORD.
