1 Pea naʻe faʻa fakakaukau ʻa Tevita fakataha mo e ngaahi ʻeikitau naʻe pule ki he ngaahi toko afe mo e ngaahi toko teau, pea mo e kau takimuʻa kotoa pē.
David consulted with the captains of thousands and of hundreds, even with every leader.
2 Pea naʻe pehē ʻe Tevita ki he fakataha kātoa ʻo ʻIsileli, “Kapau ʻoku lelei kiate kimoutolu, pea ʻoku finangalo ki ai ʻa Sihova ko hotau ʻOtua, tuku ketau fekau atu ki hotau kāinga ʻi he potu kotoa pē, ʻakinautolu ʻoku toe ʻi he potu fonua kotoa pē ʻo ʻIsileli, pea ki he kau taulaʻeiki mo e kau Livai fakataha mo kinautolu, ʻi he ngaahi kolo mo honau ngaahi potu ofi, koeʻuhi ke nau fakataha mai kiate kitautolu;
David said to all the assembly of Israel, “If it seems good to you, and if it is of Yahweh our God, let’s send word everywhere to our brothers who are left in all the land of Israel, with whom the priests and Levites are in their cities that have pasture lands, that they may gather themselves to us.
3 Pea ke tau toe ʻomi kiate kitautolu ʻae puha [ʻoe fuakava ]ʻo hotau ʻOtua kiate kitautolu: he naʻe ʻikai te tau fakafehuʻi ki ai ʻi he ngaahi ʻaho ʻo Saula.”
Also, let’s bring the ark of our God back to us again, for we didn’t seek it in the days of Saul.”
4 Pea naʻe pehē ʻe he fakataha kotoa pē te nau fai ia: he naʻe matamata totonu ʻae meʻa ni ki he kakai kotoa pē.
All the assembly said that they would do so, for the thing was right in the eyes of all the people.
5 Ko ia naʻe fakataha ai ʻe Tevita, ʻae kakai kotoa pē, mei Sihoa ʻi ʻIsipite ʻo aʻu atu ki he hūʻanga ki Hamati, koeʻuhi ke ʻomi ʻae puha [ʻoe fuakava ]ʻoe ʻOtua mei Kesa-Sialimi.
So David assembled all Israel together, from the Shihor River of Egypt even to the entrance of Hamath, to bring God’s ark from Kiriath Jearim.
6 Pea naʻe ʻalu hake ʻa Tevita, pea mo ʻIsileli kātoa, ki Peala, (ʻaia ko Kesasialimi, ) ʻaia ʻoku ʻi Siuta, ke ʻohake mei ai ʻae puha ʻoe fuakava ʻoe ʻOtua ko Sihova, ʻaia ʻoku ʻafio ʻi he vahaʻa ʻoe ongo selupi, pea ʻoku ui ʻaki ia ʻa hono huafa.
David went up with all Israel to Baalah, that is, to Kiriath Jearim, which belonged to Judah, to bring up from there God Yahweh’s ark that sits above the cherubim, that is called by the Name.
7 Pea naʻa nau fakaheka ʻae puha [ʻoe fuakava ]ʻoe ʻOtua ki he saliote foʻou mei he fale ʻo ʻApinatapi: pea naʻe angi ki he saliote ʻe Usa mo ʻAhio.
They carried God’s ark on a new cart, and brought it out of Abinadab’s house; and Uzza and Ahio drove the cart.
8 Pea naʻe tā meʻa faiva ʻe Tevita pea mo ʻIsileli kātoa ʻi he ʻao ʻoe ʻOtua ʻaki ʻenau mālohi kotoa, pea ʻi he hiva, mo e tā ʻae haʻape, mo e ngaahi ūtete, mo e ngaahi kihiʻi lali, mo e ukamea tatangi, pea mo e ngaahi meʻalea.
David and all Israel played before God with all their might, even with songs, with harps, with stringed instruments, with tambourines, with cymbals, and with trumpets.
9 Pea ʻi heʻenau hoko ange ki he fale hahaʻanga uite ʻo Kitoni, naʻe ala atu ʻe Usa ʻa hono nima ke puke ki he puha; he naʻe ngaueue ia ʻi he ʻalu ʻae fanga pulu.
When they came to Chidon’s threshing floor, Uzza put out his hand to hold the ark, for the oxen stumbled.
10 Pea naʻe fakatupu ʻae houhau ʻo Sihova kia Usa, pea naʻa ne taaʻi ia, ko e meʻa ʻi heʻene ala ʻa hono nima ki he puha: pea naʻa ne mate ai ʻi he ʻao ʻoe ʻOtua.
Yahweh’s anger burned against Uzza, and he struck him because he put his hand on the ark; and he died there before God.
11 Pea naʻe mamahi ʻa Tevita, koeʻuhi ko e teʻia ʻa Usa ʻe Sihova: pea ko ia kuo ui ai ʻae potu ko ia ko Pelesiusa, ʻo aʻu mai ki he ʻaho ni.
David was displeased, because Yahweh had broken out against Uzza. He called that place Perez Uzza, to this day.
12 Pea naʻe manavahē ʻa Tevita ki he ʻOtua ʻi he ʻaho ko ia, ʻo ne pehē, “ʻE fēfē ʻa ʻeku ʻomi kiate au ʻae puha [ʻoe fuakava ]ʻoe ʻOtua?”
David was afraid of God that day, saying, “How can I bring God’s ark home to me?”
13 Ko ia naʻe ʻikai ʻomi ai ʻe Tevita ʻae puha ʻoe fuakava kiate ia ki he Kolo ʻo Tevita, ka naʻa ne afe atu mo ia ki he fale ʻo ʻOpeti-itomi ko e tangata Kati.
So David didn’t move the ark with him into David’s city, but carried it aside into Obed-Edom the Gittite’s house.
14 Pea naʻe nofo aipē ʻae puha ʻoe fuakava ʻoe ʻOtua ʻi he ʻapi ʻo ʻOpeti-ʻItomi ʻi hono fale ʻi he māhina ʻe tolu. Pea naʻe fakamonūʻia ʻe Sihova ʻae fale ʻo ʻOpeti-ʻItomi, pea mo e meʻa kotoa pē naʻa ne maʻu.
God’s ark remained with the family of Obed-Edom in his house three months; and Yahweh blessed Obed-Edom’s house and all that he had.
