1 ౧ రేపటి రోజును గూర్చి డంబాలు పలక వద్దు. ఏ రోజున ఏమి జరుగుతుందో ఎవరికి తెలుసు?

Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.

2 ౨ నీ నోరు కాదు, వేరొకరు ఎవరన్నా, నీ స్వంత పెదవులు కాదు ఇతరులే నిన్ను పొగడాలి.

Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.

3 ౩ రాయి బరువు ఇసక భారం గదా. మూర్ఖుడి కోపం ఆ రెంటికంటే బరువు.

A stone [is] heavy, and the sand weighty; but a fool’s wrath [is] heavier than them both.

4 ౪ క్రోధం క్రూరమైనది. కోపం వరదలాగా ముంచెత్తుతుంది. రోషం ఎదుట నిలవ గలిగేది ఎవరు?

Wrath [is] cruel, and anger [is] outrageous; but who [is] able to stand before envy?

5 ౫ లోలోపల ప్రేమించడం కంటే బహిరంగంగా గద్దించడం మేలు.

Open rebuke [is] better than secret love.

6 ౬ స్నేహితుడు మేలు కోరి గాయాలు చేస్తాడు. శత్రువు లెక్క లేనన్ని ముద్దులు పెడతాడు.

Faithful [are] the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy [are] deceitful.

7 ౭ కడుపు నిండిన వాడు తేనెపట్టునైనా సరే కాళ్ళతో తొక్కేస్తాడు. ఆకలి వేసిన వాడికి చేదు పదార్థమైనా తియ్యగా ఉంటుంది.

The full soul loatheth an honeycomb; but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.

8 ౮ తన సొంత ఇల్లు విడిచిపెట్టి తిరిగేవాడు గూడు విడిచి తిరిగే పక్షితో సమానం.

As a bird that wandereth from her nest, so [is] a man that wandereth from his place.

9 ౯ పరిమళం, సుగంధం హృదయాన్ని సంతోషపెడుతుంది. అలాగే మిత్రుడి హృదయంలో నుండి వచ్చే మధుర వాక్కులు హృదయాన్ని సంతోషపెడతాయి.

Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: so [doth] the sweetness of a man’s friend by hearty counsel.

10 ౧౦ నీ స్నేహితుడినైనా నీ తండ్రి స్నేహితుడినైనా విడిచి పెట్టవద్దు. నీ ఆపద దినాన నీ అన్నదమ్ముల ఇళ్ళకు వెళ్లకు. దూరంగా ఉన్న సోదరుడి కంటే దగ్గరున్న పొరుగువాడే మంచిది.

Thine own friend, and thy father’s friend, forsake not; neither go into thy brother’s house in the day of thy calamity: [for] better [is] a neighbour [that is] near than a brother far off.

11 ౧౧ కుమారా, జ్ఞానం సంపాదించి నా హృదయాన్ని సంతోషపెట్టు. అప్పుడు నన్ను నిందించే వారితో నేను ధైర్యంగా మాటలాడతాను.

My son, be wise, and make my heart glad, that I may answer him that reproacheth me.

12 ౧౨ బుద్ధిమంతుడు అపాయం రావడం చూసి దాక్కుంటాడు. జ్ఞానం లేనివారు నిర్లక్ష్యంగా ఆపదలో పడతారు.

A prudent [man] foreseeth the evil, [and] hideth himself; [but] the simple pass on, [and] are punished.

13 ౧౩ ఎదుటి మనిషి విషయంలో హామీ ఉండే వాడి నుంచి అతని వస్త్రం తీసుకో. ఇతరుల కోసం పూచీ తీసుకున్న వాడిచేత వాడి వస్తువులు తాకట్టు పెట్టించు.

Take his garment that is surety for a stranger, and take a pledge of him for a strange woman.

14 ౧౪ పొద్దున్నే లేచి పెద్ద గొంతుకతో తన స్నేహితుణ్ణి దీవించే వాడి దీవెన అతని పాలిట శాపమే.

He that blesseth his friend with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, it shall be counted a curse to him.

15 ౧౫ ముసురు పట్టిన రోజున ఏక ధారగా కురుస్తూ ఉండే నీళ్లు, గయ్యాళి ఇల్లాలు ఒకటే.

A continual dropping in a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike.

16 ౧౬ ఆమెను ఆపాలని ప్రయత్నించేవాడు గాలిని ఆపాలని ప్రయత్నించే వాడితో సమానం. తన కుడిచేతిలో నూనె పట్టుకోవాలని ప్రయత్నించడంతో సమానం.

Whosoever hideth her hideth the wind, and the ointment of his right hand, [which] bewrayeth [itself].

17 ౧౭ ఇనుము చేత ఇనుము పదును అవుతుంది. అలాగే ఒక మనిషి తన సాటి మనిషికి పదును పెడతాడు.

Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.

18 ౧౮ అంజూరు చెట్టు పెంచేవాడు దాని పండ్లు తింటాడు. తన యజమానిని గౌరవించే వాడు ఘనత పొందుతాడు.

Whoso keepeth the fig tree shall eat the fruit thereof: so he that waiteth on his master shall be honoured.

19 ౧౯ నీటిలో ముఖానికి ముఖం కనబడినట్టు ఒకడి మనస్సుకు మరొకడి మనస్సు కనబడుతుంది.

As in water face [answereth] to face, so the heart of man to man.

20 ౨౦ పాతాళానికి, అగాధానికి తృప్తి ఉండదు. అలానే మనిషి కోరికలకు ఎప్పటికీ తృప్తి ఉండదు. (Sheol h7585)

Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied. (Sheol h7585)

21 ౨౧ మూసతో వెండిని కొలిమితో బంగారాన్ని తాను పొందిన కీర్తితో మనిషిని పరీక్షించి చూడ వచ్చు.

[As] the fining pot for silver, and the furnace for gold; so [is] a man to his praise.

22 ౨౨ మూర్ఖుడిని గోదుమలలోబాటు రోకలితో దంచినా వాడి మూఢత వాణ్ణి వదలిపోదు.

Though thou shouldest bray a fool in a mortar among wheat with a pestle, [yet] will not his foolishness depart from him.

23 ౨౩ నీ పశువుల స్థితి జాగ్రత్తగా తెలిసుకో. నీ మందల మీద మనస్సు ఉంచు.

Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, [and] look well to thy herds.

24 ౨౪ డబ్బు శాశ్వతం కాదు. కిరీటం తరతరాలు ఉంటుందా?

For riches [are] not for ever: and doth the crown [endure] to every generation?

25 ౨౫ ఎండిన గడ్డి వామి వేస్తారు. పచ్చిక ఇక కనిపించడం లేదు. మొలకలు వస్తున్నాయి. ఆలమందల కోసం కొండగడ్డి కోసుకొస్తున్నారు.

The hay appeareth, and the tender grass sheweth itself, and herbs of the mountains are gathered.

26 ౨౬ నీకు వెచ్చటి బట్టల కోసం గొర్రెపిల్లలున్నాయి. ఒక చేను కొనడానికి మేకలు సరిపోతాయి.

The lambs [are] for thy clothing, and the goats [are] the price of the field.

27 ౨౭ నీ ఆహారానికి, నీ కుటుంబం తినే ఆహారానికి, నీ దాసదాసీల పోషణకు మేకపాలు ఉంటాయి.

And [thou shalt have] goats’ milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household, and [for] the maintenance for thy maidens.
