எண்ணாகமம் 25
1 ௧ இஸ்ரவேல் சித்தீமிலே தங்கியிருக்கும்போது, மக்கள் மோவாபின் மகள்களோடு விபசாரம் செய்யத் தொடங்கினார்கள்.
Now when Israel was living in Shittim the people became false to the Lord, doing evil with the daughters of Moab:
2 ௨ அவர்கள் தங்களுடைய தெய்வங்களுக்கு செலுத்திய பலிகளை விருந்துண்ணும்படி மக்களை அழைத்தார்கள்; மக்கள் போய் சாப்பிட்டு, அவர்கள் தெய்வங்களைப் பணிந்துகொண்டார்கள்.
For they sent for the people to be present at the offerings made to their gods; and the people took part in their feasts and gave honour to their gods.
3 ௩ இப்படி இஸ்ரவேலர்கள் பாகால்பேயோரைப் பற்றிக்கொண்டார்கள்; அதனால் இஸ்ரவேலர்கள்மேல் யெகோவாவுடைய கோபம் வந்தது.
So Israel had relations with the women of Moab in honour of the Baal of Peor: and the Lord was moved to wrath against Israel.
4 ௪ யெகோவா மோசேயை நோக்கி: “யெகோவாவுடைய கடுமையான கோபம் இஸ்ரவேலை விட்டு நீங்கும்படி நீ மக்களின் தலைவர் எல்லோரையும் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு, அப்படிச் செய்தவர்களைச் சூரிய வெளிச்சத்திலே யெகோவாவுடைய சந்நிதானத்தில் தூக்கில்போடும்படி செய் என்றார்.
Then the Lord said to Moses, Take all the chiefs of the people, hanging them up in the sun before the Lord, so that the wrath of the Lord may be turned from Israel.
5 ௫ அப்படியே மோசே இஸ்ரவேலின் நியாயாதிபதிகளை நோக்கி: “நீங்கள் அவரவர் பாகால்பேயோரைப் பற்றிக்கொண்ட உங்களுடைய மனிதர்களைக் கொன்றுபோடுங்கள்” என்றான்.
So Moses said to the judges of Israel, Let everyone put to death those of his men who have had relations with the women of Moab in honour of the Baal of Peor.
6 ௬ அப்பொழுது மோசேயும் இஸ்ரவேல் மக்களாகிய சபையார் அனைவரும் ஆசரிப்புக் கூடாரத்தின்வாசலுக்கு முன்பாக அழுதுகொண்டு நிற்கும்போது, அவர்கள் கண்களுக்கு முன்பாக இஸ்ரவேல் மக்களில் ஒருவன் ஒரு மீதியானிய பெண்ணைத் தன்னுடைய சகோதரர்களிடம் அழைத்துக்கொண்டுவந்தான்.
Then one of the children of Israel came to his brothers, taking with him a woman of Midian, before the eyes of Moses and all the meeting of the people, while they were weeping at the door of the Tent of meeting.
7 ௭ அதை ஆசாரியனாகிய ஆரோனின் மகனான எலெயாசாரின் மகன் பினெகாஸ் பார்த்தபோது, அவன் நடுச்சபையிலிருந்து எழுந்து, ஒரு ஈட்டியைத் தன்னுடைய கையிலே பிடித்து,
And Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, seeing it, got up from among the people and took a spear in his hand,
8 ௮ இஸ்ரவேலனாகிய அந்த மனிதன் விபசாரம்செய்யும் அறையிலே அவன் பின்னாலே போய், இஸ்ரவேல் மனிதனும் அந்த பெண்ணுமாகிய இருவருடைய வயிற்றிலும் ஈட்டி வெளியே போகுமளவுக்கு அவர்களைக் குத்திப்போட்டான்; அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேல் மக்களில் உண்டான வாதை நின்றுபோயிற்று.
And went after the man of Israel into the tent, driving the spear through the two of them, through the man of Israel and through the stomach of the woman. So the disease was stopped among the children of Israel.
But twenty-four thousand of them had come to their death by the disease.
And the Lord said to Moses,
11 ௧௧ “நான் என்னுடைய எரிச்சலில் இஸ்ரவேல் மக்களை அழிக்காதபடி, ஆசாரியனாகிய ஆரோனின் மகனான எலெயாசாரின் மகன் பினெகாஸ், எனக்காக அவர்கள் நடுவில் பக்திவைராக்கியம் காண்பித்ததினால், இஸ்ரவேல் மக்கள்மேல் உண்டான என்னுடைய கடுங்கோபத்தை திருப்பினான்.
Through Phinehas, and because of his passion for my honour, my wrath has been turned away from the children of Israel, so that I have not sent destruction on them all in my wrath.
So say to them that I will make with him an agreement of peace:
13 ௧௩ அவன் தன்னுடைய தேவனுக்காக பக்திவைராக்கியம் காண்பித்து, இஸ்ரவேல் மக்களுக்காகப் பாவநிவிர்த்தி செய்தபடியினால், அவனுக்கும் அவனுக்குப் பின்பு அவன் சந்ததிக்கும் நிரந்தர ஆசாரிய பட்டத்திற்குரிய உடன்படிக்கை உண்டாயிருக்கும் என்று சொல்” என்றார்.
And by this agreement, he and his sons after him have the right to be priests for ever; because, by his care for the honour of his God, he took away the sin of the children of Israel.
14 ௧௪ மீதியானிய பெண்ணோடு குத்தப்பட்டு இறந்த இஸ்ரவேல் மனிதனுடைய பெயர் சிம்ரி; அவன் சல்லூவின் மகனும், சிமியோனியர்களின் தகப்பன் வம்சத்தில் ஒரு பிரபுவாகவும் இருந்தான்.
Now the man of Israel who was put to death with the woman of Midian was Zimri, the son of Salu, a chief of one of the families of the Simeonites.
15 ௧௫ குத்தப்பட்ட மீதியானிய பெண்ணின் பெயர் கஸ்பி, அவள் சூரின் மகள், அவன் மீதியானியர்களுடைய தகப்பன் வம்சத்தாரான மக்களுக்குத் தலைவனாக இருந்தான்.
And the woman of Midian who was put to death was Cozbi, the daughter of Zur; he was the head of a family in Midian.
Then the Lord said to Moses,
Take up arms against the Midianites and overcome them;
18 ௧௮ பேயோரின் காரியத்திலும் பேயோரினால் வாதை உண்டான நாளிலே குத்தப்பட்ட அவர்களுடைய சகோதரியாகிய கஸ்பி என்னும் மீதியான் பிரபுவினுடைய மகளின் காரியத்திலும், அவர்கள் உங்களுக்குச் செய்த துரோகங்களினால் உங்களை மோசம்போக்கி நெருக்கினார்களே” என்றார்.
For they are a danger to you with their false ways, causing sin to come on you in the question of Peor, and because of Cozbi, their sister, the daughter of the chief of Midian, who was put to death at the time of the disease which came on you because of Peor.
