1 ௧ இயேசு அந்த இடத்தைவிட்டுப் புறப்பட்டு, அவர் வளர்ந்த ஊருக்கு வந்தார்; அவருடைய சீடர்களும் அவரோடு வந்தார்கள்.
Jesus left and went home to Nazareth with his disciples.
2 ௨ ஓய்வுநாளானபோது, ஜெப ஆலயத்தில் போதகம்பண்ணினார். அதைக் கேட்ட அனைவரும் ஆச்சரியப்பட்டு, இவைகள் இவனுக்கு எங்கிருந்து வந்தது? இவன் கைகளினால் இப்படிப்பட்ட பலத்த செய்கைகளைச் செய்ய இவனுக்குக் கொடுக்கப்பட்ட ஞானம் எப்படிப்பட்டது?
On Sabbath he began teaching in the synagogue, and many of those who were listening were surprised. “Where does he get these ideas?” they asked. “What's this wisdom he's been given? Where does he get the power to do miracles?
3 ௩ இவன் தச்சன் அல்லவா? மரியாளுடைய குமாரன் அல்லவா? யாக்கோபு, யோசே, யூதா, சீமோன் என்பவர்களுடைய சகோதரன் அல்லவா? இவன் சகோதரிகளும் இங்கே நம்மோடு இருக்கிறார்கள் அல்லவா? என்று சொல்லி, அவரைக்குறித்து இடறல் அடைந்தார்கள்.
Isn't this the carpenter, Mary's son—the brother of James, Joseph, Judas and Simon? Don't his sisters live here among us?” They were offended and rejected him.
4 ௪ இயேசு அவர்களை நோக்கி: தீர்க்கதரிசி ஒருவன் தன் சொந்த ஊரிலும், தன் உறவினர்களிலும், தன் வீட்டிலும்தான் மதிக்கப்படமாட்டான். மற்ற எல்லா இடங்களிலும் மதிக்கப்படுவான் என்றார்.
“A prophet is treated with respect except in his home town, among his relatives, and within his own family,” Jesus told them.
5 ௫ அங்கே அவர் சில நோயாளிகள்மேல்மட்டும் கரங்களை வைத்து, அவர்களைக் குணமாக்கினார், வேறு அற்புதங்கள் எதுவும் செய்யமுடியாமல்.
The result was that Jesus could not do any miracles there, except to heal a few sick people.
6 ௬ அவர்களுக்கு விசுவாசம் இல்லாததினால் அதைக்குறித்து ஆச்சரியப்பட்டு, மற்ற கிராமங்களுக்குச்சென்று, போதகம்பண்ணினார்.
He was amazed at their lack of trust. Jesus traveled around the villages, teaching as he went.
He called together the twelve disciples, and began sending them out two by two, giving them authority over evil spirits.
8 ௮ வழிக்குப் பையையோ, அப்பத்தையோ, இடுப்புக் கச்சையில் பணத்தையோ, எடுத்துக்கொண்டுபோகாமல், ஒரு தடியைமட்டும் எடுத்துக்கொண்டுபோகவும்;
He told them not to take anything with them except a walking stick—no bread, no bag, and no money in their belts.
They could wear sandals, but they were not to take an extra shirt.
10 ௧0 பின்பு அவர்களைப் பார்த்து: நீங்கள் எங்கேயாவது ஒரு வீட்டிற்குச் சென்றால், அந்த இடத்தைவிட்டுப் புறப்படும்வரை அங்கேயே தங்கியிருங்கள்.
“When you're invited into a home, stay there until you leave,” he told them.
11 ௧௧ யாராவது உங்களை ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளாமலும், உங்களுடைய வசனங்களைக் கேட்காமலும் இருந்தால், நீங்கள் அந்த இடத்தைவிட்டுப் புறப்படும்போது, அவர்களுக்கு சாட்சியாக உங்களுடைய கால்களின் கீழே படிந்த தூசியை உதறிப்போடுங்கள். நியாயத்தீர்ப்புநாளிலே அந்தப் பட்டணத்திற்கு சம்பவிப்பதைவிட சோதோம் கொமோரா பட்டணத்திற்கு சம்பவிப்பது இலகுவாக இருக்கும் என்று உண்மையாகவே உங்களுக்குச் சொல்லுகிறேன் என்று சொல்லி, அவர்களை இரண்டு இரண்டுபேராக அனுப்பினார்.
“If you're not welcomed and not listened to, then shake the dust from your feet as you leave as a sign you have given up on them.”
So they went around telling people to repent.
They drove out many demons, and healed many who were sick by anointing them with oil.
14 ௧௪ இயேசுவினுடைய பெயர் பிரசித்தமானதினால், ஏரோதுராஜா அவரைக்குறித்துக் கேள்விப்பட்டு: மரித்துப்போன யோவான்ஸ்நானன் உயிரோடு எழுந்தான், எனவே அவனிடம் இப்படிப்பட்டப் பலத்த செய்கைகள் வெளிப்படுகிறது என்றான்.
King Herod got to hear about Jesus since he had become well-known. Some said, “This is John the Baptist risen from the dead. That's why he has such miraculous powers.”
15 ௧௫ சிலர்: அவர் எலியா என்றார்கள். வேறுசிலர்: அவர் ஒரு தீர்க்கதரிசி அல்லது பூர்வகாலத்துத் தீர்க்கதரிசிகளில் ஒருவனைப்போல இருக்கிறார் என்று சொன்னார்கள்.
Others said, “It's Elijah.” Still others said, “He's a prophet, like one of the prophets of the past.”
16 ௧௬ ஏரோது அதைக் கேட்டபொழுது: அவன், நான் தலையை வெட்டிக்கொன்ற யோவான்தான்; அவன் உயிரோடு எழுந்தான் என்றான்.
But when Herod heard about it, he said, “It's John, the one I beheaded! He's come back from the dead!”
For Herod had given orders to arrest and imprison John because of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife, whom Herod had married.
18 ௧௮ யோவான் ஏரோதைப் பார்த்து: நீர் உம்முடைய சகோதரன் மனைவியை வைத்துக்கொள்ளுவது நியாயம் இல்லை என்று சொன்னதினால், ஏரோது போர்வீரர்களை அனுப்பி, யோவானைப் பிடித்துக் கட்டிக் காவலில் வைத்திருந்தான்.
John had been saying to Herod, “It's against the law to marry your brother's wife.”
19 ௧௯ ஏரோதியாளும் அவனுக்குச் சதி நினைத்து, அவனைக் கொன்றுபோட மனதாயிருந்தாள்; ஆனாலும், அவளால் முடியாமல்போனது.
So Herodias had a grudge against John and wanted him killed. But she wasn't able to arrange it
20 ௨0 ஏனென்றால், யோவான் நீதியும் பரிசுத்தமும் உள்ளவன் என்று ஏரோது அறிந்து, அவனுக்குப் பயந்து, அவனைப் பாதுகாத்து, அவன் யோசனையின்படி அநேகக் காரியங்களைச் செய்து, விருப்பத்தோடு அவன் சொல்லைக் கேட்டுவந்தான்.
because Herod knew John was a holy man who did what was right. Herod protected John and though what John said was very disturbing to him, he was still happy to hear what he had to say.
21 ௨௧ ஏரோது தன்னுடைய பிறந்தநாளிலே தன்னுடைய பிரபுக்களுக்கும், படைத்தளபதிகளுக்கும், கலிலேயா நாட்டின் பிரதான மனிதர்களுக்கும் ஒரு விருந்துபண்ணினபோது,
Herodias had her opportunity on Herod's birthday. He gave a banquet for the nobles, military officers, and important leaders of Galilee.
22 ௨௨ ஏரோதியாளின் மகள் சபை நடுவே வந்து நடனம்பண்ணி, ஏரோதுவையும் அவனோடுகூட பந்தியில் இருந்தவர்களையும் சந்தோஷப்படுத்தினாள். அப்பொழுது, ராஜா சிறுபெண்ணை நோக்கி: உனக்கு வேண்டியதை என்னிடம் கேள், அதை உனக்குத் தருவேன் என்று சொல்லி;
Herodias' daughter came in and danced for them. Herod and those eating with him were delighted at her performance, so he told the girl,
23 ௨௩ நீ என்னிடத்தில் எதைக்கேட்டாலும், அது என் ராஜ்யத்தில் பாதியானாலும், அதை உனக்குத் தருவேன் என்று அவளுக்கு வாக்குக்கொடுத்தான்.
“Ask me for whatever you like, and I'll give it to you.” He confirmed his promise with an oath, “I'll give you up to half my kingdom.”
24 ௨௪ அப்பொழுது, அவள் வெளியேபோய், நான் என்ன கேட்கவேண்டும் என்று தன் தாயிடம் கேட்டாள். அதற்கு அவள்: யோவான்ஸ்நானனுடைய தலையைக் கேள் என்றாள்.
She went out and asked her mother, “What should I ask for?” “The head of John the Baptist,” she replied.
25 ௨௫ உடனே அவள் ராஜாவிடம் சீக்கிரமாக வந்து: நீர் இப்பொழுதே ஒரு தட்டில் யோவான்ஸ்நானனுடைய தலையை வைத்து எனக்குத் தரவேண்டும் என்று கேட்டாள்.
The girl hurried back in and said to the king, “I want you to give me right now the head of John the Baptist on a plate.”
26 ௨௬ அப்பொழுது ராஜா அதிக துக்கமடைந்தான்; ஆனாலும், வாக்குக் கொடுத்ததினாலும், அவனோடுகூட பந்தியில் இருந்தவர்களுக்காகவும், அவள் கேட்டுக்கொண்டதை மறுக்க அவனுக்கு மனம் இல்லாமல்;
The king was very upset, but because of the oaths he'd made in front of his guests, he didn't want to refuse her.
So he immediately sent an executioner to bring him John's head. After beheading him in the prison,
28 ௨௮ அப்படியே அவன்போய், காவல்கூடத்திலே அவனுடைய தலையை வெட்டி, அவன் தலையை ஒரு தட்டிலே கொண்டுவந்து, அதை அந்தச் சிறு பெண்ணுக்குக் கொடுத்தான்; அந்தச் சிறுபெண் அதைத் தன் தாயிடம் கொடுத்தாள்.
the executioner brought John's head on a plate and gave it to the girl, and the young girl handed it to her mother.
29 ௨௯ அவனுடைய சீடர்கள் அதைக் கேள்விப்பட்டு வந்து, அவன் சரீரத்தை எடுத்து, ஒரு கல்லறையில் வைத்தார்கள்.
When John's disciples heard what had happened they came and took his body and placed it in a tomb.
30 ௩0 அப்பொழுது அப்போஸ்தலர்கள் இயேசுவிடம் கூடிவந்து, தாங்கள் செய்தவைகள் போதித்தவைகள் எல்லாவற்றையும் அவருக்கு அறிவித்தார்கள்.
The apostles returned and gathered around Jesus. They told him all they had done and what they had taught.
31 ௩௧ அவர் அவர்களைப் பார்த்து: வனாந்திரமான ஒரு இடத்திற்குச் சென்று தனிமையில் கொஞ்சம் ஓய்வெடுக்கலாம் வாருங்கள் என்றார்; ஏனென்றால், அநேக மக்கள் அவரிடம் வருகிறதும் போகிறதுமாக இருந்ததினால் அவர்களுக்கு சாப்பிட நேரமில்லாமல் இருந்தது.
“Come with me, just yourselves. We'll go to a quiet place, and rest for a while,” Jesus told them, because there was so much coming and going that they didn't even have time to eat.
So they went by boat to a quiet place to be alone.
33 ௩௩ அவர்கள் புறப்பட்டுப் போகிறதை மக்கள் பார்த்தார்கள். அவரை அறிந்த மக்கள் எல்லாப் பட்டணங்களிலுமிருந்து கால்நடையாகவே அந்த இடத்திற்கு ஓடி, அவர்களுக்கு முன்பே அங்கு சென்றுசேர்ந்து, அவரிடம் கூடிவந்தார்கள்.
But people saw them leaving and recognized them. So people from all the surrounding towns ran ahead and got there before them.
34 ௩௪ இயேசு கரையில் வந்து, அங்கே கூடிவந்த மக்களைப் பார்த்து, அவர்கள் மேய்ப்பன் இல்லாத ஆடுகளைப்போல இருந்ததினால், அவர்கள்மேல் மனதுருகி, அநேகக் காரியங்களை அவர்களுக்குப் போதிக்கத்தொடங்கினார்.
When Jesus got off the boat he saw a huge crowd, and he felt pity for them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began to teach them about many things.
It was getting late in the day and Jesus' disciples came to him. They told him, “We're miles from anywhere, and it's really late.
36 ௩௬ சாப்பிடுகிறதற்கும் இவர்களிடம் ஒன்றும் இல்லை; எனவே இவர்கள் சுற்றிலும் இருக்கிற கிராமங்களுக்கும் ஊர்களுக்கும்போய், அப்பங்களை வாங்கிக்கொள்ள இவர்களை அனுப்பிவிடவேண்டும் என்றார்கள்.
You should tell the people to go and buy themselves something to eat in the villages and countryside nearby.”
37 ௩௭ அவர் அவர்களைப் பார்த்து: நீங்களே அவர்களுக்கு உணவுகொடுங்கள் என்றார். அதற்கு அவர்கள்: நாங்கள்போய், இருநூறு வெள்ளிக்காசுகளுக்கு அப்பங்களை வாங்கி இவர்களுக்குச் சாப்பிடக் கொடுக்கலாமா? என்றார்கள்.
But Jesus replied, “You give them something to eat.” “What? We'd need more than six month's pay to buy bread to feed all these people,” the disciples replied.
38 ௩௮ அதற்கு அவர்: உங்களிடம் எத்தனை அப்பங்கள் இருக்கிறது என்று போய்ப் பாருங்கள் என்றார். அவர்கள் பார்த்துவந்து: ஐந்து அப்பங்களும், இரண்டு மீன்களும் இருக்கிறது என்றார்கள்.
“Well, how much bread do you have?” Jesus asked. “Go and see.” They went and checked, and told him, “Five loaves, and a couple of fish.”
Jesus told everyone to sit down in groups on the green grass.
They sat in groups of hundreds and fifties.
41 ௪௧ அவர் அந்த ஐந்து அப்பங்களையும், அந்த இரண்டு மீன்களையும் எடுத்து, வானத்தை அண்ணாந்துபார்த்து, ஆசீர்வதித்து, அப்பங்களைப் பிட்டு, அவர்களுக்குப் பரிமாறத் தம்முடைய சீடர்களிடம் கொடுத்தார். அப்படியே இரண்டு மீன்களையும் எல்லோருக்கும் பங்கிட்டார்.
Then he took the five loaves and the two fish. Looking up to heaven he blessed the food and broke the bread into pieces. Then he handed the bread to the disciples to give to the people, and he divided the fish up between all of them.
Everyone ate until they were full.
Then they collected up the leftovers of the bread and fish—twelve basketfuls.
A total of five thousand men plus their families ate the food.
45 ௪௫ அவர் மக்களை அனுப்பிவிடும்போது, தம்முடைய சீடர்கள் படகில் ஏறி அக்கரையில் பெத்சாயிதாவிற்கு, தமக்கு முன்பே போகச்சொல்லி, அவர்களை துரிதப்படுத்தினார்.
Immediately after this Jesus instructed his disciples to get back into the boat. They were to go on ahead to Bethsaida on the other side of the lake while he sent the people on their way.
Once he'd said goodbye to them he went up into the hills to pray.
Late that evening the boat was in the middle of the lake while Jesus was alone, still on land.
48 ௪௮ அப்பொழுது எதிர்க்காற்று வீசிக்கொண்டிருந்ததால், அவர்கள் கஷ்டப்பட்டு துடுப்பு போடுகிறதை அவர் பார்த்து, அதிகாலையில் கடலின்மேல் நடந்து அவர்களிடம் வந்து, அவர்களைக் கடந்துபோகிறவர்போல காணப்பட்டார்.
He could see them being buffeted about as they rowed hard because the wind was blowing against them. In the early morning hours Jesus came to them, walking on the water. He would have passed them,
49 ௪௯ அவர் கடலின்மேல் நடக்கிறதை அவர்கள் பார்த்து, அவரை பிசாசு என்று நினைத்து, சத்தமிட்டு அலறினார்கள்.
but when they saw him walking on the water they thought he was a ghost. They screamed out
50 ௫0 அவர்கள் எல்லோரும் அவரைப் பார்த்து கலக்கம் அடைந்தார்கள். உடனே அவர் அவர்களோடு பேசி: திடன்கொள்ளுங்கள், நான்தான், பயப்படாமல் இருங்கள் என்று சொல்லி.
because they could all see him and were absolutely terrified. Jesus told them right away: “Don't worry, it's me. Don't be afraid!”
51 ௫௧ அவர்கள் இருந்த படகில் ஏறினார். அப்பொழுது காற்று அமைதியானது; எனவே அவர்கள் தங்களுக்குள்ளே மிகவும் பிரமித்து ஆச்சரியப்பட்டார்கள்.
He went over to them and climbed into the boat, and the wind died down. They were totally shocked,
for they hadn't understood the meaning of the feeding miracle due to their stubborn, hard-hearted attitude.
After crossing the Sea they arrived at Gennesaret and moored the boat.
As they climbed out, the people immediately recognized Jesus.
55 ௫௫ அந்தச் சுற்றுபுறமெல்லாம் ஓடிச்சென்று, நோயாளிகளைப் படுக்கைகளில் படுக்கவைத்து, அவர் வந்திருக்கிறார் என்று கேள்விப்பட்ட இடங்களிலெல்லாம் சுமந்துகொண்டுவந்தார்கள்;
They ran everywhere around the whole area to bring in all the sick on their mats to where they'd heard Jesus was.
56 ௫௬ இவைகள் இல்லாமல், அவர் சென்ற கிராமங்கள், பட்டணங்கள், நாடுகள் எல்லாவற்றிலும் சந்தைவெளிகளிலே நோயாளிகளைக் கொண்டுவந்து, அவருடைய ஆடையின் ஓரத்தையாவது அவர்கள் தொடுவதற்கு அனுமதிக்கவேண்டும் என்று அவரை வேண்டிக்கொண்டார்கள்; அவரைத் தொட்ட எல்லோரும் சுகம் பெற்றுக்கொண்டார்கள்.
Wherever he went, in the villages, in the towns, or in the countryside, they put the sick in the marketplaces and begged Jesus to let the sick touch just the edge of his clothes. Everyone who touched him was healed.
