நியாயாதிபதிகள் 9
1 ௧ யெருபாகாலின் மகன் அபிமெலேக்கு சீகேமிலிருக்கிற தன்னுடைய தாயினுடைய சகோதரர்களிடம் போய், அவர்களையும் தன்னுடைய தாயின் தகப்பனுடைய வம்சமான அனைவரையும் நோக்கி:
And Abimelech the son of Yerubba'al went to Shechem unto his mother's brothers, and spoke unto them, and unto all the family of the house of his mother's father, saying,
2 ௨ யெருபாகாலின் மகன்கள் 70 பேரான எல்லோரும் உங்களை ஆள்வது உங்களுக்கு நல்லதோ, ஒருவன் மட்டும் உங்களை ஆள்வது உங்களுக்கு நல்லதோ என்று நீங்கள் சீகேமிலிருக்கிற எல்லா பெரிய மனிதர்களின் காதுகளும் கேட்கப்பேசுங்கள்; நான் உங்கள் எலும்பும் உங்கள் சரீரமுமானவன் என்று நினைத்துக் கொள்ளுங்கள் என்றான்.
Speak, I pray you, in the ears of all the men of Shechem, What is better for you, either that there should rule over you seventy men, all the sons of Yerubba'al, or that there reign over you one man? and remember that I am your bone and your flesh.
3 ௩ அப்படியே அவன் தாயின் சகோதரர்கள் சீகேமிலிருக்கிற எல்லா பெரிய மனிதர்களின் காதுகளும் கேட்க இந்த வார்த்தைகளையெல்லாம் அவனுக்காகப் பேசினார்கள்; அப்பொழுது: அவன் நம்முடைய சகோதரன் என்று அவர்கள் சொன்னதினால், அவர்கள் இருதயம் அபிமெலேக்கைப் பின்பற்றும்படியாக மாறியது.
And his mother's brothers spoke concerning him in the ears of all the men of Shechem all these words; and their heart became inclined after Abimelech; for they said, He is our brother.
4 ௪ அவர்கள் பாகால் பேரீத்தின் கோவிலிலிருந்து 800 கிராம்ஸ் வெள்ளிக்காசை எடுத்து அவனுக்குக் கொடுத்தார்கள்; அவைகளால் அபிமெலேக்கு வீணரும் போக்கிரிகளுமான மனிதர்களை வேலைக்கு வைத்தான்; அவர்கள் அவனைப் பின்பற்றினார்கள்.
And they gave him seventy pieces of silver out of the house of Ba'al-berith; and Abimelech hired therewith idle and heedless persons, who followed him.
5 ௫ அவன் ஒப்ராவிலிருக்கிற தன்னுடைய தகப்பன் வீட்டிற்குப் போய், யெருபாகாலின் மகன்களான தன்னுடைய சகோதரர்கள் 70 பேரையும் ஒரே கல்லின்மேல் கொலைசெய்தான்; ஆனாலும் யெருபாகாலின் இளைய மகனான யோதாம் ஒளிந்திருந்தபடியால் அவன் தப்பினான்.
And he came unto his father's house at 'Ophrah, and slew his brothers the sons of Yeruhba'al, seventy persons, upon one stone; and there was yet left Yotham the youngest son of Yerubba'al; for he had hidden himself.
6 ௬ பின்பு சீகேமிலிருக்கிற எல்லா பெரிய மனிதர்களும், மில்லோவின் குடும்பத்தார்கள் அனைவரும் ஒன்றுசேர்ந்து போய், சீகேமிலிருக்கிற உயர்ந்த கர்வாலிமரத்தின் அருகில் அபிமெலேக்கை ராஜாவாக்கினார்கள்.
And all the men of Shechem and all Beth-millo assembled together, and went, and made Abimelech king, by the oak of the pillar that was by Shechem.
7 ௭ இது யோதாமுக்கு அறிவிக்கப்பட்டபோது, அவன் போய், கெரிசீம் மலையின் உச்சியில் ஏறி நின்று, உரத்த சத்தமிட்டுக்கூப்பிட்டு, அவர்களை நோக்கி: சீகேமின் பெரிய மனிதர்களே, தேவன் உங்களுக்குச் செவிகொடுக்கும்படி நீங்கள் எனக்குச் செவிகொடுங்கள்.
And they told it to Yotham; and he went and stood on the top of mount Gerizzim, and he lifted up his voice, and cried; and he said unto them, Hearken unto me, ye men of Shechem, so that God may hearken unto you.
8 ௮ மரங்கள் தங்களுக்கு ஒரு ராஜாவை அபிஷேகம்செய்யும்படி போய், ஒலிவமரத்தைப் பார்த்து: நீ எங்களுக்கு ராஜாவாக இரு என்றது.
The trees went once forth to anoint a king over them; and they said unto the olive-tree, Reign thou over us.
9 ௯ அதற்கு ஒலிவமரம்: தேவனையும் மனிதனையும் கனப்படுத்துகிற என்னிலுள்ள என்னுடைய எண்ணெயை நான் விட்டு, மரங்களை அரசாளப்போவேனோ என்றது.
But the olive-tree said unto them, Should I give up my fatness, wherewith through me they honor God and men, and shall I go to be promoted over the trees!
And the trees said to the fig-tree, Come thou, reign over us.
11 ௧௧ அதற்கு அத்திமரம்: நான் என்னுடைய இனிமையையும் என்னுடைய நற்கனியையும் விட்டு, மரங்களை அரசாளப்போவேனோ என்றது.
But the fig-tree said unto them, Should I give up my sweetness, and my good productiveness, and go to be promoted over the trees?
Then said the trees unto the vine, Come thou, reign over us.
13 ௧௩ அதற்குத் திராட்சைச்செடி: தெய்வங்களையும் மனிதர்களையும் மகிழச்செய்யும் என்னுடைய ரசத்தை நான் விட்டு மரங்களை அரசாளப்போவேனோ என்றது.
But the vine said unto them, Should I give up my fresh wine, which rejoiceth God and men, and go to be promoted over the trees!
Then said all the trees unto the bramble, Come thou, reign over us.
15 ௧௫ அதற்கு முட்செடியானது மரங்களைப் பார்த்து: நீங்கள் என்னை உங்களுக்கு ராஜாவாக அபிஷேகம் செய்கிறது உண்மையானால், என்னுடைய நிழலிலே வந்தடையுங்கள்; இல்லாவிட்டால் முட்செடியிலிருந்து அக்கினி புறப்பட்டு லீபனோனின் கேதுரு மரங்களை எரிக்கட்டும் என்றது.
And the bramble said unto the trees, If in truth ye anoint me as king over you, then come seek protection in my shadow; and if not, then let fire come out of the bramble, and devour the cedars of the Lebanon.
16 ௧௬ என் தகப்பன் உங்களுக்காக யுத்தம்செய்து, தன்னுடைய ஜீவனை நினைக்காமற்போய், உங்களை மீதியானியர்களின் கையிலிருந்து காப்பாற்றினார்.
And now, if ye have acted in truth and sincerity, when ye made Abimelech king, and if ye have dealt well with Yerubba'al and his house, and have done unto him according to the merit of his hands;
17 ௧௭ நீங்களோ இன்று என்னுடைய தகப்பனுடைய குடும்பத்திற்கு எதிராக எழும்பி, அவருடைய மகன்களான 70 பேரையும் ஒரே கல்லின்மேல் கொலைசெய்து, அவருடைய வேலைக்காரியின் மகனான அபிமெலேக்கு உங்கள் சகோதரனானபடியால், அவனைச் சீகேம் பட்டணத்தார்களுக்கு ராஜாவாக்கினீர்கள்.
(In that my father fought for you, and cast his life far away, and delivered you out of the hand of Midian;
While ye are risen up against my father's house this day, and have slain his sons, seventy men, upon one stone, and have made Abimelech, the son of his maid-servant, king over the men of Shechem, because he is your brother; )
19 ௧௯ நீங்கள் யெருபாகாலையும் அவர் குடும்பத்தாரையும் நன்மையாக நடத்தி, அவர் கைகளின் செய்கைக்குத் தகுந்ததை அவருக்குச் செய்து, இப்படி இந்த நாளில் அவரையும் அவர் குடும்பத்தாரையும் நடத்தினது உண்மையும் உத்தமுமாக இருக்குமானால், அபிமெலேக்கின்மேல் நீங்களும் சந்தோஷமாக இருங்கள்; உங்கள்மேல் அவனும் சந்தோஷமாக இருக்கட்டும்.
If ye have thus acted in truth and sincerity with Yerubba'al and with his house this day: then rejoice ye in Abimelech, and let him also rejoice in you.
20 ௨0 இல்லாவிட்டால் அபிமெலேக்கிலிருந்து அக்கினி புறப்பட்டு, சீகேம் பட்டணத்தார்களையும், மில்லோவின் குடும்பத்தினரையும் எரிக்கவும், சீகேம் பட்டணத்தார்களிலும் மில்லோவின் குடும்பத்தினரிலுமிருந்து அக்கினி புறப்பட்டு, அபிமெலேக்கை எரிப்பதாக என்று யோதாம் சொல்லி,
But if not, let fire come out from Abimelech, and devour the men of Shechem and Beth-millo; and let fire come out from the men of Shechem, and from Beth-millo, and devour Abimelech.
21 ௨௧ தன்னுடைய சகோதரனான அபிமெலேக்குக்குப் பயந்து, தப்பியோடி, பேயேருக்குப் போய், அங்கே குடியிருந்தான்.
And Yotham ran away, and fled, and went to Beer, and dwelt there, for fear of Abimelech his brother.
And Abimelech ruled over Israel three years;
23 ௨௩ அபிமெலேக்குக்கும் சீகேமின் பெரிய மனிதர்களுக்கும் நடுவே தீங்கை உண்டாக்கும் ஆவியை தேவன் வரச்செய்தார்.
And then did God send an evil spirit between Abimelech and the men of Shechem; and the men of Shechem became unfaithful toward Abimelech;
24 ௨௪ யெருபாகாலின் 70 மகன்களுக்குச் செய்யப்பட்ட கொடுமை வந்து பலித்தது, அவர்களுடைய இரத்தப்பழி அவர்களைக் கொன்ற அவர்களுடைய சகோதரனான அபிமெலேக்கின்மேலும், தன்னுடைய சகோதரர்களைக் கொல்ல அவனுடைய கைகளை பெலப்படுத்தின சீகேம் மனிதர்கள் மேலும் சுமரும்படியாகச் சீகேமின் பெரிய மனிதர்கள் அபிமெலேக்குக்கு துரோகம் செய்தார்கள்.
So that the violence [done] to the seventy sons of Yerubba'al might come, and their blood be laid upon Abimelech their brother, who had slain them; and upon the men of Shechem, who had strengthened his hands to slay his brothers.
25 ௨௫ சீகேமின் மனிதர்கள் மலைகளின் உச்சியில் அவனுக்கு ஒளிந்திருக்கிறவர்களை வைத்தார்கள்; அவர்கள் தங்கள் அருகே வழிநடந்துபோகிற எல்லோரையும் கொள்ளையிட்டார்கள்; அது அபிமெலேக்குக்கு அறிவிக்கப்பட்டது.
And the men of Shechem set persons to lie in wait for him on the tops of the mountains, and they robbed all that passed by them on that way: and it was told unto Abimelech.
26 ௨௬ ஏபேதின் மகனான காகால் தன்னுடைய சகோதரர்களோடு சீகேமுக்குள் போனான்; சீகேமின் பெரிய மனிதர்கள் அவனை நம்பி,
And there came Ga'al the son of 'Ebed with his brothers, and passed through Shechem: and the men of Shechem put their confidence in him.
27 ௨௭ வெளியே புறப்பட்டு, தங்கள் திராட்சை தோட்டங்களின் பழங்களை அறுத்து, ஆலையில் ஆட்டி, ஆடிப்பாடி, தங்கள் தேவனின் வீட்டிற்குள் போய், சாப்பிட்டுக்குடித்து, அபிமெலேக்கை சபித்தார்கள்.
And they went out into the field, and gathered their vineyards, and trod [the grapes], and made joyful feasts, and went into the house of their god, and ate and drank, and cursed Abimelech.
28 ௨௮ அப்பொழுது ஏபேதின் மகனான காகால்: அபிமெலேக்கு யார்? சீகேம் யார்? நாம் அவனுக்கு பணியாற்றவேண்டியது என்ன? அவன் யெருபாகாலின் மகன் அல்லவா? சேபூல் அவனுடைய காரியதரிசி அல்லவா? சீகேமின் தகப்பனான ஏமோரின் மனிதர்களையே பணிந்துகொள்ளுங்கள்; அவனை நாங்கள் பணிந்துகொள்வானேன்?
And Ga'al the son of 'Ebed said, Who is Abimelech, and who is Shechem, that we should serve him? is not he the son of Yerubba'al? and Zebul his superintendent? serve the men of Chamor the father of Shechem; for why indeed should we serve him?
29 ௨௯ இந்த மக்கள்மட்டும் என்னுடைய கைக்குள் இருக்கட்டும்; நான் அபிமெலேக்கைத் துரத்திவிடுவேன் என்றான். உன் படையைப் பெருகச்செய்துப் புறப்பட்டுவா என்று, அவன் அபிமெலேக்குக்குச் சொல்லியனுப்பினான்.
And O that some one would put this people into my power! and I would remove Abimelech. And he let it be said to Abimelech, Increase thy army, and come out.
And when Zebul the ruler of the city heard the words of Ga'al the son of 'Ebed, his anger was kindled.
31 ௩௧ இரகசியமாக அபிமெலேக்கினிடத்திற்கு ஆட்களை அனுப்பி: இதோ, ஏபேதின் மகனான காகாலும் அவனுடைய சகோதரர்களும் சீகேமுக்கு வந்திருக்கிறார்கள்; பட்டணத்தை உமக்கு எதிராக எழுப்புகிறார்கள்.
And he sent messengers unto Abimelech privately, saying, Behold, Ga'al the son of 'Ebed and his brothers are come to Shechem; and, behold, they incite the city to enmity against thee.
And now rise up by night, thou and the people that are with thee, and lie in wait in the field:
33 ௩௩ காலையில் சூரியன் உதிக்கும்போது எழுந்து, பட்டணத்தின்மேல் விழுந்து, அவனும் அவனோடிருக்கிற மக்களும் உமக்கு எதிரே புறப்படும்போது, நீர் செய்ய நினைத்ததை அவனுக்குச் செய்யும் என்று சொல்லியனுப்பினான்.
And it shall be, in the morning, the moment the sun shineth, that thou shalt rise early, and set upon the city; and, behold, when he and the people that are with him come out against thee, then mayest thou do to him as thy means may let thee.
34 ௩௪ அப்படியே அபிமெலேக்கும், அவனோடிருந்த எல்லா மக்களும், இரவில் எழுந்துபோய், சீகேமுக்கு எதிராக நான்கு படைகளாக ஒளிந்திருந்தார்கள்.
And Abimelech rose up, and all the people that were with him, by night, and they lay in wait against Shechem in four companies.
35 ௩௫ ஏபேதின் மகன் காகால் புறப்பட்டு, பட்டணத்தின் நுழைவுவாயிலில் நின்றான்; அப்பொழுது ஒளிந்திருந்த அபிமெலேக்கு தன்னோடிருக்கிற மக்களோடு எழும்பி வந்தான்.
And Ga'al the son of 'Ebed went out, and stood in the entrance of the city-gate: and Abimelech rose up, and the people that were with him, from the ambush.
36 ௩௬ காகால் அந்த மக்களைப் பார்த்து: இதோ, மலைகளின் உச்சிகளிலிருந்து மக்கள் இறங்கி வருகிறார்கள் என்று சேபூலோடு சொன்னான். அதற்குச் சேபூல்: நீ மலைகளின் நிழலைப் பார்த்து, மனிதர்கள் என்று நினைக்கிறாய் என்றான்.
And when Ga'al saw the people, he said to Zebul, Behold, people are coming down from the tops of the mountains. And Zebul said unto him, Thou regardest the shadow of the mountains as men.
37 ௩௭ காகாலோ திரும்பவும்: இதோ, மக்கள் தேசத்தின் மத்தியிலிருந்து இறங்கிவந்து, ஒரு படை மெயொனெனீமின் கர்வாலிமரத்தின் வழியாக வருகிறார்கள் என்றான்.
And Ga'al spoke again and said, See people are coming down from the highest point of the land, and one company is coming along by the way of the grove of Me'onenim.
38 ௩௮ அதற்குச் சேபூல்: அபிமெலேக்கை நாம் பணிந்துகொள்வதற்கு அவன் யார் என்று நீ சொன்ன உன்னுடைய வாய் இப்பொழுது எங்கே? நீ நிந்தித்த மக்கள் அவர்கள் அல்லவா? இப்பொழுது நீ புறப்பட்டு, அவர்களோடு யுத்தம்செய் என்றான்.
Then said Zebul unto him, Where is now thy mouth, wherewith thou saidst, Who is Abimelech, that we should serve him! is not this the people that thou hast despised? go out now, I pray, and fight with them.
39 ௩௯ அப்பொழுது காகால் சீகேமின் மனிதர்களுக்கு முன்பாகப் புறப்பட்டுப்போய், அபிமெலேக்கோடு யுத்தம்செய்தான்.
And Ga'al went out before the men of Shechem, and fought with Abimelech.
40 ௪0 அபிமெலேக்கு அவனைத் துரத்த, அவன் அவனுக்கு முன்பாக ஓடினான்; பட்டணவாசல்வரை அநேகர் வெட்டப்பட்டு விழுந்தார்கள்.
And Abimelech pursued him, and he fled before him, and many fell slain, even as far as the entrance of the gate.
41 ௪௧ அபிமெலேக்கு அருமாவில் இருந்து விட்டான்; சேபூல் காகாலையும் அவனுடைய சகோதரர்களையும் சீகேமிலே குடியிருக்கவிடாதபடி துரத்திவிட்டான்.
And Abimelech remained at Arumah: and Zebul banished Ga'al and his brothers, that they should not remain in Shechem.
And it came to pass on the morrow, that the people went out into the field; and it was told to Abimelech.
43 ௪௩ அவன் மக்களைக் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு, அவர்களை மூன்று படைகளாக பிரித்து, வெளியிலே ஒளிந்திருந்து, அந்த மக்கள் பட்டணத்திலிருந்து புறப்பட்டுவருகிறதைப் பார்த்து, அவர்களைத் தாக்கிக் கொன்றான்.
And he took the people, and divided them into three companies, and lay in wait in the field; and as he saw, and, behold, that the people were coming forth out of the city, he rose up against them, and smote them.
44 ௪௪ அபிமெலேக்கும் அவனோடிருந்த படையும் பாய்ந்துவந்து, பட்டணத்தின் நுழைவுவாயிலில் நின்றார்கள்; மற்ற இரண்டு படைகளோ வெளியிலிருக்கிற அனைவரையும் தாக்கி, அவர்களைக் கொன்றார்கள்.
And Abimelech, and the companies that were with him, spread forward, and took position in the entrance of the city-gate: and the two other companies spread over all that were in the fields, and smote them.
45 ௪௫ அபிமெலேக்கு அந்த நாள் முழுதும் பட்டணத்தின்மேல் யுத்தம்செய்து, பட்டணத்தைப் பிடித்து, அதிலிருந்த மக்களைக்கொன்று, பட்டணத்தை இடித்துவிட்டு, அதில் உப்பு விதைத்தான்.
And Ahimelech fought against the city all that day; and he captured the city, and the people that were therein he slew; and he beat down the city, and sowed it with salt.
46 ௪௬ அதைச் சீகேம் கோபுரத்து மனிதர்கள் எல்லோரும் கேள்விப்பட்டபோது, அவர்கள் பேரீத் தெய்வத்தினுடைய கோவில் கோட்டைக்குள் நுழைந்தார்கள்.
And when all the men of the tower of Shechem heard this, they entered into the stronghold of the house of the god Berith.
47 ௪௭ சீகேம் கோபுரத்து மனிதர்கள் எல்லோரும் அங்கே கூடியிருக்கிறது அபிமெலேக்குக்கு அறிவிக்கப்பட்டபோது,
And it was told unto Abimelech, that all the men of the tower of Shechem were gathered together.
48 ௪௮ அபிமெலேக்கு தன்னோடிருந்த எல்லா மக்களோடும் சல்மோன் மலையில் ஏறி, தன்னுடைய கையிலே கோடரியைப் பிடித்து, ஒரு மரத்தின் கிளையை வெட்டி, அதை எடுத்து, தன்னுடைய தோளின்மேல் போட்டுக்கொண்டு, தன்னோடிருந்த மக்களைப் பார்த்து: நான் என்ன செய்கிறேன் என்று பார்க்கிறீர்களே, நீங்களும் விரைவாக என்னைப்போலச் செய்யுங்கள் என்றான்.
And Abimelech went thereupon up to mount Zalmon, he and all the people that were with him; and Abimelech took an axe in his hand, and cut down a bough from a tree, and bore it, and laid it on his shoulder; and he said unto the people that were with him, What ye have seen that I have done, make haste, and do like me.
49 ௪௯ அப்படியே எல்லா மக்களும் அவரவர் ஒவ்வொரு கிளைகளை வெட்டி, அபிமெலேக்குக்குப் பின்சென்று, அவைகளை அந்தக் கோட்டைக்கு அருகே போட்டு, அக்கினி கொளுத்தி அந்த கோட்டையை எரித்துப்போட்டார்கள்; அதினால் ஆண்களும் பெண்களும் ஏறக்குறைய 1,000 சீகேம் கோபுரத்து மனிதர்கள் எல்லோரும் இறந்தார்கள்.
And all the people also cut down every man his bough, and followed Abimelech, and put the same to the stronghold, and set the stronghold over them on fire: and thus died also all the people of the tower of Shechem, about a thousand men and women.
And Abimelech went then to Thebez, and encamped against Thebez, and captured it.
51 ௫௧ அந்தப் பட்டணத்தின் நடுவே பலத்த கோபுரம் இருந்தது; அங்கே எல்லா ஆண்களும் பெண்களும் பட்டணத்து மனிதர்கள் அனைவரும் ஓடிப் புகுந்து, கதவைப் பூட்டிக்கொண்டு, கோபுரத்தின்மேல் ஏறினார்கள்.
But there was a strong tower within the city, and thither fled all the men and the women, and all the chief persons of the city, and shut the doors behind them, and went up to the roof of the tower.
52 ௫௨ அபிமெலேக்கு அந்த கோபுரம்வரை வந்து, அதின்மேல் யுத்தம்செய்து, கோபுரத்தின் கதவைச் சுட்டெரித்துப் போடும்படி, வாசலின் அருகே வந்தான்.
And Abimelech came up to the tower, and fought against it, and approached as far as the door of the tower to burn it with fire.
53 ௫௩ அப்பொழுது ஒரு பெண் ஒரு மாவரைக்கும் கல்லின் துண்டை அபிமெலேக்குடைய தலையின்மேல் போட்டாள்; அது அவனுடைய மண்டையை உடைத்தது.
But a certain woman cast a piece of an upper millstone upon Abimelech's head, and crushed his skull.
54 ௫௪ உடனே அவன் தன்னுடைய ஆயுதம் ஏந்திய வேலைக்காரனைக் கூப்பிட்டு: ஒரு பெண் என்னைக் கொன்றாள் என்று என்னைக் குறித்துச் சொல்லாதபடி, நீ உன் பட்டயத்தை உருவி, என்னைக் கொன்று போடு என்று அவனோடு சொன்னான்; அப்படியே அவன் வேலைக்காரன் அவனை, பட்டயம் மறுபக்கம் துளையிட்டு வெளியேறுமாறு குத்தினான், அவன் இறந்துபோனான்.
Then called he hastily unto the young man that bore his armor, and said unto him, Draw thy sword, and slay me, that people may not say of me, A woman hath slain him. And his young man thrust him through, and he died.
55 ௫௫ அபிமெலேக்கு இறந்துபோனதை இஸ்ரவேல் மனிதர்கள் பார்த்தபோது, அவர்கள் தங்கள்தங்கள் இடங்களுக்குப் போய் விட்டார்கள்.
And when the men of Israel saw that Abimelech was dead, they departed every man to his place.
56 ௫௬ இப்படியே அபிமெலேக்கு தன்னுடைய 70 சகோதரர்களைக் கொலை செய்ததால், தன்னுடைய தகப்பனுக்குச் செய்த தீங்கை தேவன் அவன்மேல் திரும்பும்படி செய்தார்.
Thus did God compensate the evil of Abimelech, which he had done unto his father, in slaying his seventy brothers:
57 ௫௭ சீகேம் மனிதர்கள் செய்த எல்லா தீமையையும் தேவன் அவர்கள் தலையின்மேல் திரும்பும்படி செய்தார்; யெருபாகாலின் மகன் யோதாமின் சாபம் அவர்களுக்குப் பலித்தது.
