நியாயாதிபதிகள் 21
1 ௧ இஸ்ரவேலர்கள் மிஸ்பாவிலே இருக்கும்போது: நம்மில் ஒருவனும் தன்னுடைய மகளைப் பென்யமீனர்களுக்கு திருமணம் செய்துகொடுப்பதில்லை என்று சத்தியம் செய்திருந்தார்கள்.
Now the men of Israel had made a promise at Mizpah, “None of us will give his daughter to marry a Benjamite.”
2 ௨ ஆகவே, மக்கள் பெத்தேலுக்குப்போய், அங்கே தேவனுக்கு முன்பாக மாலைவரை உட்கார்ந்திருந்து, சத்தமிட்டு மிகவும் அழுது:
Then the people went to Bethel and sat there before God until the evening, and with loud voices they wept bitterly.
3 ௩ இஸ்ரவேலின் தேவனாகிய யெகோவாவே, இன்று இஸ்ரவேலில் ஒரு கோத்திரம் குறைந்துபோகும்படி இஸ்ரவேலில் இந்தக் காரியம் சம்பவித்தது என்ன என்றார்கள்.
They called out, “Why, Yahweh, God of Israel, has this happened to Israel, that one of our tribes should be missing today?”
4 ௪ மறுநாளிலே, மக்கள் அதிகாலையில் எழுந்து, அங்கே ஒரு பலிபீடத்தைக் கட்டி, சர்வாங்கதகனபலிகளையும் சமாதானபலிகளையும் செலுத்தினார்கள்.
The next day the people got up early and built an altar there and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings.
5 ௫ யெகோவாவுடைய சந்நிதியில் மிஸ்பாவுக்கு வராதவன் நிச்சயமாகக் கொலைசெய்யப்படவேண்டும் என்று அவர்கள் பெரிய ஆணையிட்டிருந்தபடியால், இஸ்ரவேல் மக்கள்: யெகோவாவுடைய சந்நிதியில் சபைகூடினபோது, இஸ்ரவேலுடைய எல்லாக் கோத்திரங்களிலுமிருந்து வராமல்போனவர்கள் யார் என்று விசாரித்தார்கள்.
The people of Israel said, “Which of all the tribes of Israel did not come up in the assembly to Yahweh?” For they had made an important promise concerning anyone who did not come up to Yahweh at Mizpah. They said, “He would certainly be put to death.”
6 ௬ இஸ்ரவேல் மக்கள் தங்கள் சகோதரனாகிய பென்யமீனனை நினைத்து, வேதனையடைந்து: இன்று இஸ்ரவேலில் ஒரு கோத்திரம் அறுப்புண்டு போயிற்றே.
The people of Israel had compassion for their brother Benjamin. They said, “Today one tribe has been cut off from Israel.
7 ௭ மீதியாக இருப்பவர்களுக்கு மனைவிகள் கிடைக்க நாம் அவர்களுக்கு என்ன செய்யலாம்? நம்முடைய மகள்களில் ஒருத்தியையும் அவர்களுக்குக் கொடுப்பதில்லை என்று நாம் யெகோவா மேல் ஆணையிட்டுக் கொண்டோமே.
Who will provide wives for those who are left, since we have made a promise to Yahweh that we will not let any of them marry our daughters?”
8 ௮ இஸ்ரவேலின் கோத்திரங்களில் மிஸ்பாவிலே யெகோவாவுடைய சந்நிதியில் வராமல் போனவர் உண்டோ என்று விசாரித்தார்கள்; அப்பொழுது கீலேயாத்திலுள்ள யாபேசின் மனிதர்களில் ஒருவரும் முகாமில் சபைகூடினபோது வரவில்லை.
They said, “Which of the tribes of Israel did not come up to Yahweh at Mizpah?” It was found that no one had come to the assembly from Jabesh Gilead.
9 ௯ மக்கள் கணக்கு பார்க்கப்பட்டபோது, கீலேயாத்திலிருக்கிற யாபேசின் குடியிருப்புகளில் அங்கே ஒருவரும் இருக்கவில்லை.
For when the people were set out in an orderly manner, behold, none of the inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead were there.
10 ௧0 உடனே சபையார் பெலவான்களில் பன்னிரண்டாயிரம்பேரை அங்கே அழைத்து: நீங்கள் கீலேயாத்திலுள்ள யாபேசிற்குப் போய், பெண்களையும் பிள்ளைகளையும்கூட கூர்மையான பட்டயத்தால் கொன்றுபோடுங்கள்.
The assembly sent twelve thousand of their bravest men with instructions to go and strike the inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead with the edge of the sword, including the women and children.
11 ௧௧ எல்லா ஆண்பிள்ளைகளையும், திருமணமான எல்லா பெண்பிள்ளைகளையும் கொன்றுபோடவேண்டும் என்று அவர்களுக்குக் கட்டளை கொடுத்து அனுப்பினார்கள்.
“Do this: You must kill every male and every woman who has slept with a man.”
12 ௧௨ இவர்கள் கீலேயாத்திலுள்ள யாபேசின் குடியிருக்கிறவர்களிடத்தில் திருமணமாகாத 400 கன்னிப்பெண்களைக் கண்டுபிடித்து, அவர்களைக் கானான்தேசமான சீலோவிலிருக்கிற முகாமிற்கு கொண்டுவந்தார்கள்.
The men found among those living in Jabesh Gilead four hundred young women who had never slept with a man, and they took them to the camp at Shiloh, in Canaan.
13 ௧௩ அப்பொழுது ரிம்மோன் கன்மலையிலிருக்கிற பென்யமீன் மக்களோடு பேசவும், அவர்களுக்குச் சமாதானம் கூறவும், சபையார் எல்லோரும் செய்தி அனுப்பினார்கள்.
The entire assembly sent a message and told the people of Benjamin who were at the rock of Rimmon that they were offering them peace.
14 ௧௪ எனவே, அக்காலத்தில் பென்யமீனர்கள் திரும்ப வந்தார்கள்; கீலேயாத்திலிருக்கிற யாபேசின் பெண்களில் உயிரோடு வைத்த பெண்களை அவர்களுக்குக் கொடுத்தார்கள்; அப்படிச் செய்தும் அவர்கள் எல்லோருக்கும் பெண்கள் போதாமலிருந்தது.
The Benjamites returned at that time and they were given the women of Jabesh Gilead, but there were not enough women for all of them.
15 ௧௫ இஸ்ரவேல் கோத்திரங்களிலே யெகோவா ஒரு பிரிவை உண்டாக்கினார் என்று மக்கள் பென்யமீனர்களுக்காக மனவேதனை அடைந்தார்கள்.
The people were sorry for what happened to Benjamin, because Yahweh made a division between the tribes of Israel.
16 ௧௬ பென்யமீன் கோத்திர பெண்கள் இறந்தபடியினாலே, மீதியான மற்றவர்களுக்கும் மனைவிகள் கிடைக்கும்படி என்ன செய்யலாம் என்று சபையின் மூப்பர்கள் கேட்டு,
Then the leaders of the assembly said, “How will we arrange wives for the Benjamites who are left, since the women of Benjamin have been killed?”
17 ௧௭ இஸ்ரவேலில் ஒரு கோத்திரம் அழிந்துபோகாதபடி, தப்பினவர்களுடைய சுதந்தரம் பென்யமீனுக்கு இருக்கவேண்டுமே,
They said, “There must be an inheritance for the survivors of Benjamin, so that a tribe is not destroyed from Israel.
18 ௧௮ நாமோ நம்முடைய மகள்களில் அவர்களுக்கு பெண் கொடுக்கக்கூடாது; பென்யமீனர்களுக்குப் பெண் கொடுக்கிறவன் சபிக்கப்பட்டவன் என்று, இஸ்ரவேல் மக்கள் ஆணையிட்டார்களே என்றார்கள்.
We cannot give them wives from our daughters, for the people of Israel had made a promise, 'Cursed be anyone who gives a wife to Benjamin.'”
19 ௧௯ பின்னும், இதோ, பெத்தேலுக்கு வடக்கில் பெத்தேலிலிருந்து சீகேமுக்குப் போகிற பாதைக்குக் கிழக்காகவும் லிபோனாவுக்குத் தெற்காகவும் இருக்கிற சீலோவிலே ஒவ்வொரு வருடமும் யெகோவாவுக்குப் பண்டிகை கொண்டாடப்படுகிறதே என்று சொல்லி,
So they said, “You know there is a feast for Yahweh every year at Shiloh (which is north of Bethel, east of the road that goes up from Bethel to Shechem, and south of Lebonah).”
They instructed the men of Benjamin, saying, “Go and hide in secret and wait in the vineyards.
21 ௨௧ சீலோவின் பெண்பிள்ளைகள் கீதவாத்தியத்தோடு நடனம் செய்கிறவர்களாகப் புறப்பட்டு வருகிறதை நீங்கள் பார்க்கும்போது, திராட்சைத் தோட்டங்களிலிருந்து விரைந்து, உங்களில் அவரவர் சீலோவின் பெண்பிள்ளைகளில் ஒவ்வொரு பெண்ணைப் பிடித்துப் பென்யமீன் தேசத்திற்குக் கொண்டுபோங்கள்.
Watch for the time when the girls from Shiloh come out to dance, then rush out of the vineyards and each one of you should grab a wife from the girls of Shiloh, then go back to the land of Benjamin.
22 ௨௨ அவர்களுடைய தகப்பன்மார்களாகிலும், சகோதரர்களாகிலும் எங்களிடத்தில் முறையிட வரும்போது, நாங்கள் அவர்களை நோக்கி: எங்களுக்காக அவர்களுக்குத் தயவு செய்யுங்கள்; நாங்கள் யுத்தம் செய்து, அவனவனுக்கு மனைவியைப் பிடித்துக்கொடுக்கவில்லை; உங்கள்மேல் குற்றமுண்டாக, இப்போது நீங்கள் அவர்களுக்கு உங்கள் மகள்களைக் கொடுக்கவும் இல்லை என்போம் என்று சொன்னார்கள்.
When their fathers or their brothers come to protest to us, we will say to them, 'Show us favor! Let them remain because we did not get wives for each man during the war. You are innocent, since you did not give your daughters to them.'”
23 ௨௩ பென்யமீன் மக்கள் அப்படியே செய்து, நடனம்செய்கிறவர்களிலே தங்கள் எண்ணிக்கைக்குச் சரியான பெண்களை மனைவிகளாகப் பிடித்துக்கொண்டு, தங்கள் சுதந்தரத்திற்குத் திரும்பிப்போய், பட்டணங்களைப் புதுப்பித்துக் கட்டி, அவைகளில் குடியிருந்தார்கள்.
The people of Benjamin did so. They took the number of wives that they needed from the girls who were dancing and they carried them off to be their wives. They went and returned to the place of their inheritance. They rebuilt the towns and lived in them.
24 ௨௪ இஸ்ரவேல் மக்களும் அக்காலத்திலே அவ்விடம் விட்டு அவரவர் தங்கள் கோத்திரத்திற்கும் தங்கள் குடும்பத்திற்கும் போய், அவரவர் தங்கள் சுதந்தரத்தில் சேர்ந்தார்கள்.
Then the people of Israel left that place and went home, each one to his own tribe and clan, and each one to his own inheritance.
In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did what was right in his own eyes.
