நியாயாதிபதிகள் 17

1 ௧ எப்பிராயீம் மலைத்தேசத்தானாகிய மீகா என்னும் பெயருள்ள ஒரு மனிதன் இருந்தான்.

There was a man named Micah who lived in the hilly area where the tribe of Ephraim live.

2 ௨ அவன் தன்னுடைய தாயை நோக்கி: உன்னிடத்திலிருந்த 1,100 வெள்ளிக்காசு திருட்டுபோனதே, அதைக்குறித்து என்னுடைய காதுகள் கேட்க நீ சாபமிட்டாயே, அந்தப் பணம், இதோ, என்னிடத்தில் இருக்கிறது; அதை எடுத்தவன் நான்தான் என்றான். அதற்கு அவன் தாய்: என் மகனே, நீ யெகோவாவால் ஆசீர்வதிக்கப்படுவாய் என்றாள்.

One day he said to his mother, “I heard you curse whoever stole (1,100 pieces/28 pounds/13 kg.) of silver from your house. I am the one who took the silver, and I still have it.” His mother replied, “My son, I pray that Yahweh will bless you [for admitting that you took it].”

3 ௩ அவன் அந்த 1,100 வெள்ளிக்காசைத் தன்னுடைய தாயினிடத்தில் திரும்பக் கொடுத்தான்; அவள்: செதுக்கப்பட்ட ஒரு சிலையையும் வார்ப்பிக்கப்பட்ட ஒரு விக்கிரகத்தையும் உண்டாக்க, நான் என்னுடைய கையிலிருந்த இந்த வெள்ளியை என் மகனுக்காக முழுவதும் யெகோவாக்கென்று நியமித்தேன்; இப்போதும் இதை உனக்குத் திரும்பக் கொடுக்கிறேன் என்றாள்.

Micah gave all the silver back to his mother. Then she said [to herself], “I will give [some of] this silver to Yahweh.” And she said to her son, “My son, I want you to make an idol and a statue [from this silver]. So I will give [some of] this silver back to you [for making these things].”

4 ௪ அவன் அந்த வெள்ளியைத் தன்னுடைய தாய்க்குத் திரும்பக் கொடுத்தான்; அப்பொழுது அவன் தாய் 200 வெள்ளிக்காசை எடுத்து, கொல்லன் கையிலே கொடுத்தாள்; அவன் அதினாலே, செதுக்கப்பட்ட ஒரு சிலையையும் வார்ப்பிக்கப்பட்ட ஒரு விக்கிரகத்தையும் செய்தான்; அவைகள் மீகாவின் வீட்டில் இருந்தது.

So when he gave all the silver to his mother, she took (200 pieces/about 5 pounds/1.6 kg.) of it to a (silversmith/man who made things from silver). With the silver that man made an idol and a statue, [and gave them to Micah]. Micah put them in his house.

5 ௫ மீகா, சிலைகளுக்கு ஒரு வீட்டை அறையை ஏற்படுத்தி வைத்திருந்தான்; அவன் ஒரு ஏபோத்தையும், சிலைகளையும் உண்டாக்கி, தன்னுடைய மகன்களில் ஒருவனை அர்ப்பணம் செய்தான்; இவன் அவனுக்கு ஆசாரியனானான்.

He had in his house a special (shrine/place for putting sacred things). He made a sacred vest and some small idols [and put them in this shrine along with the big idol and the statue]. Then Micah chose one of his sons to become his priest.

6 ௬ அந்நாட்களில் இஸ்ரவேலிலே ராஜா இல்லை; அவனவன் தன்தன் பார்வைக்குச் சரியானபடி செய்துவந்தான்.

At that time, the Israeli people did not have a king. So [Micah and everyone else] did whatever they considered to be the right thing to do.

7 ௭ யூதாவிலுள்ள பெத்லெகேம் ஊர்க்காரனும் லேவியனுமான ஒரு வாலிபன் அங்கே தங்கியிருந்தான்;

There was a young man who had been living in Bethlehem in the area where the tribe of Judah lives. He [wanted to work as a priest because he] was a member of the tribe of Levi.

8 ௮ அந்த மனிதன் எங்கேயாவது போய்த் தங்கும்படி, யூதாவிலுள்ள பெத்லெகேம் ஊரைவிட்டுப் புறப்பட்டுப் பயணம்போகும்போது, எப்பிராயீம் மலைத்தேசத்தில் இருக்கிற மீகாவின் வீட்டில் வந்து சேர்ந்தான்.

So he left Bethlehem to find another place to live [and work]. He came to Micah’s house in the hilly area where the tribe of Ephraim live.

9 ௯ எங்கே இருந்து வந்தாய் என்று மீகா அவனைக் கேட்டதற்கு, அவன்: நான் யூதாவிலுள்ள பெத்லெகேம் ஊரானாகிய லேவியன், எங்கேயாவது போய்த் தங்கப்போகிறேன் என்றான்.

Micah asked him, “Where are you from?” He replied, “I come from Bethlehem. I am from the tribe of Levi, and I am looking for a place to live [and work as a priest].”

10 ௧0 அப்பொழுது மீகா: நீ என்னிடத்தில் இரு, நீ எனக்குத் தகப்பனும் ஆசாரியனுமாக இருப்பாய்; நான் உனக்கு வருடத்திலே 10 வெள்ளிக்காசையும், மாற்று ஆடைகளையும், உனக்கு வேண்டிய ஆகாரத்தையும் கொடுப்பேன் என்று அவனிடத்தில் சொன்னான்; அப்படியே லேவியன் உள்ளே போனான்.

Micah said to him, “Stay with me, and you can become like a father [to counsel me], and be my priest. Each year I will give to you ten pieces of silver and some [new] clothes. And I will provide food for you.”

11 ௧௧ அந்த லேவியன் அந்த மனிதனிடத்தில் இருக்கச் சம்மதித்தான்; அந்த வாலிபன் அவனுக்கு அவனுடைய மகன்களில் ஒருவனைப்போல் இருந்தான்.

So the young man agreed to live with Micah. He became like one of Micah’s own sons.

12 ௧௨ மீகா அந்த லேவியனைப் புனிதமான வேலைக்கு அர்ப்பணம் செய்தான்; அந்த வாலிபன் அவனுக்கு ஆசாரியனாகி, மீகாவின் வீட்டில் இருந்தான்.

Micah appointed him to be a priest, and he lived in Micah’s house.

13 ௧௩ அப்பொழுது மீகா: எனக்கு ஆசாரியனாக ஒரு லேவியன் அகப்பட்டபடியினால், யெகோவா எனக்கு நன்மை செய்வார் என்று இப்பொழுது அறிந்திருக்கிறேன் என்றான்.

Then Micah said, “Now I know that Yahweh will do good things for me, because I have a man from the tribe of Levi to be my priest.”
