1 ௧ யோசுவா இறந்தபின்பு இஸ்ரவேல் மக்கள் யெகோவாவை நோக்கி: கானானியர்களை எதிர்த்து யுத்தம்செய்யும்படி, எங்களில் யார் முதலில் எழுந்து புறப்படவேண்டும் என்று கேட்டார்கள்.
After the death of Joshua, the Israelites inquired of the LORD, “Who will be the first to go up and fight for us against the Canaanites?”
2 ௨ அதற்குக் யெகோவா: யூதா எழுந்து புறப்படட்டும்; இதோ, அந்த தேசத்தை அவனுடைய கையிலே ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தேன் என்றார்.
“Judah shall go up,” answered the LORD. “Indeed, I have delivered the land into their hands.”
3 ௩ அப்பொழுது யூதாவின் மனிதர்கள் தங்களுடைய சகோதரர்களாகிய சிமியோனின் மனிதர்களை நோக்கி: நாம் கானானியர்களோடு யுத்தம்செய்ய நீங்கள் என்னுடைய சுதந்திரப் பங்குவீதத்தில் எங்களோடு எழுந்துவாருங்கள்; உங்களுடைய சுதந்திரப் பங்குவீதத்தில் நாங்களும் உங்களோடு வருவோம் என்றார்கள்; அப்படியே சிமியோன் கோத்திரத்தார்கள் அவர்களோடு போனார்கள்.
Then the men of Judah said to their brothers the Simeonites, “Come up with us to our allotted territory, and let us fight against the Canaanites. And we likewise will go with you to your territory.” So the Simeonites went with them.
4 ௪ யூதா மனிதர்கள் எழுந்துபோனபோது, யெகோவா கானானியர்களையும், பெரிசியர்களையும் அவர்களுடைய கையிலே ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தார்; அவர்கள் பேசேக்கிலே 10,000 பேரை வெட்டினார்கள்.
When Judah attacked, the LORD delivered the Canaanites and Perizzites into their hands, and they struck down ten thousand men at Bezek.
5 ௫ பேசேக்கிலே அதோனிபேசேக்கைப் பார்த்து, அவனோடு யுத்தம்செய்து, கானானியர்களையும், பெரிசியர்களையும் வெட்டினார்கள்.
And there they found Adoni-bezek and fought against him, striking down the Canaanites and Perizzites.
6 ௬ அதோனிபேசேக் ஓடிப்போகும்போது, அவனைப் பின்தொடர்ந்து பிடித்து, அவனுடைய கை கால்களின் பெருவிரல்களை வெட்டிப்போட்டார்கள்.
As Adoni-bezek fled, they pursued him, seized him, and cut off his thumbs and big toes.
7 ௭ அப்பொழுது அதோனிபேசேக்: 70 ராஜாக்கள், கை கால்களின் பெருவிரல்கள் வெட்டப்பட்டவர்களாக என்னுடைய மேஜையின்கீழ் விழுந்ததைப் பொறுக்கித் தின்றார்கள்; நான் எப்படிச் செய்தேனோ, அப்படியே தேவன் எனக்கும் செய்து சரிகட்டினார் என்றான். அவனை எருசலேமிற்குக் கொண்டுபோனார்கள்; அங்கே அவன் இறந்தான்.
Then Adoni-bezek said, “Seventy kings with their thumbs and big toes cut off have gathered the scraps under my table. As I have done to them, so God has repaid me.” And they brought him to Jerusalem, where he died.
8 ௮ யூதாவின் மக்கள் எருசலேமின்மேல் யுத்தம்செய்து, அதைப் பிடித்து, அங்குள்ளவர்களை கூர்மையான பட்டயத்தினால் வெட்டி, பட்டணத்தை அக்கினிக்கு இரையாக்கினார்கள்.
Then the men of Judah fought against Jerusalem and captured it. They put the city to the sword and set it on fire.
9 ௯ பின்பு யூதாவின் மக்கள் மலைத்தேசத்திலும், தெற்கிலும், பள்ளத்தாக்குகளிலும் குடியிருக்கிற கானானியர்களோடு யுத்தம்செய்யப் புறப்பட்டுப்போனார்கள்.
Afterward, the men of Judah marched down to fight against the Canaanites living in the hill country, in the Negev, and in the foothills.
10 ௧0 அப்படியே யூதா கோத்திரத்தார்கள் எபிரோனிலே குடியிருக்கிற கானானியர்களுக்கு எதிராகப்போய் சேசாய், அகீமான், தல்மாய் என்பவர்களை வெட்டிப்போட்டார்கள். முன்நாட்களில் அந்த எபிரோனுக்கு கீரியாத் அர்பா என்று பெயர்.
Judah also marched against the Canaanites who were living in Hebron (formerly known as Kiriath-arba), and they struck down Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai.
11 ௧௧ அங்கேயிருந்து தெபீரில் குடியிருப்பவர்களுக்கு எதிராகப் போனார்கள்; முன்நாட்களில் தெபீருக்கு கீரியாத்செப்பேர் என்று பெயர்.
From there they marched against the inhabitants of Debir (formerly known as Kiriath-sepher).
12 ௧௨ அப்பொழுது காலேப்: கீரியாத்செப்பேரை முறியடித்துப் பிடிக்கிறவனுக்கு என்னுடைய மகளாகிய அக்சாளைத் திருமணம் செய்துகொடுப்பேன் என்றான்.
And Caleb said, “To the man who strikes down Kiriath-sepher and captures it, I will give my daughter Acsah in marriage.”
13 ௧௩ அப்பொழுது காலேபுடைய தம்பியாகிய கேனாசின் மகன் ஒத்னியேல் அதைப் பிடித்தான்; எனவே, தன்னுடைய மகளாகிய அக்சாளை அவனுக்குத் திருமணம் செய்துகொடுத்தான்.
So Othniel son of Caleb’s younger brother Kenaz captured the city, and Caleb gave his daughter Acsah to him in marriage.
14 ௧௪ அவள் புறப்படும்போது, என்னுடைய தகப்பனிடத்தில் ஒரு வயல்வெளியைக் கேட்கவேண்டும் என்று ஒத்னியேலினிடத்தில் அனுமதி பெற்றுக்கொண்டு கழுதையின்மேலிருந்து இறங்கினாள். காலேப் அவளை நோக்கி: உனக்கு என்னவேண்டும் என்றான்.
One day Acsah came to Othniel and urged him to ask her father for a field. When she got off her donkey, Caleb asked her, “What do you desire?”
15 ௧௫ அப்பொழுது அவள்: எனக்கு ஒரு ஆசீர்வாதம் தரவேண்டும்; வறட்சியான நிலத்தை எனக்குத் தந்தீர்; நீர்ப்பாய்ச்சலான நிலங்களையும் எனக்குத் தரவேண்டும் என்றாள்; அப்பொழுது காலேப்: மேற்புறத்திலும் கீழ்ப்புறத்திலும் அவளுக்கு நீர்ப்பாய்ச்சலான நிலங்களைக் கொடுத்தான்.
“Give me a blessing,” she answered. “Since you have given me land in the Negev, give me springs of water as well.” So Caleb gave her both the upper and lower springs.
16 ௧௬ மோசேயின் மாமனாகிய கேனியனின் மக்களும் யூதாவின் மக்களோடு பேரீச்சை மரங்களின் பட்டணத்திலிருந்து ஆராத்திற்குத் தெற்கில் இருக்கிற யூதாவின் வனாந்திரத்திற்கு வந்து, மக்களோடு குடியேறினார்கள்.
Now the descendants of Moses’ father-in-law, the Kenite, went up with the men of Judah from the City of Palms to the Wilderness of Judah in the Negev near Arad. They went to live among the people.
17 ௧௭ யூதா தன்னுடைய சகோதரனாகிய சிமியோனோடு போனான்; அவர்கள் சேப்பாத்தில் குடியிருக்கிற கானானியர்களை முறியடித்து, அதை அழித்து, அந்தப் பட்டணத்திற்கு ஓர்மா என்று பெயரிட்டார்கள்.
Then the men of Judah went with their brothers the Simeonites, attacked the Canaanites living in Zephath, and devoted the city to destruction. So it was called Hormah.
18 ௧௮ யூதா, காசாவையும் அதின் எல்லையையும், அஸ்கலோனையும் அதின் எல்லையையும், எக்ரோனையும் அதின் எல்லையையும் பிடித்தான்.
And Judah also captured Gaza, Ashkelon, and Ekron—each with its territory.
19 ௧௯ யெகோவா யூதாவோடு இருந்ததினால், மலைத்தேசத்தார்களைத் துரத்திவிட்டார்கள்; பள்ளத்தாக்கில் குடியிருப்பவர்களுக்கு இரும்பு ரதங்கள் இருந்தபடியினால், அவர்களைத் துரத்தமுடியாமல்போனது.
The LORD was with Judah, and they took possession of the hill country; but they could not drive out the inhabitants of the plains because they had chariots of iron.
20 ௨0 மோசே சொன்னபடியே, எபிரோனைக் காலேபுக்குக் கொடுத்தார்கள்; அவன் அதிலிருந்த ஏனாக்கின் மூன்று மகன்களையும் துரத்திவிட்டான்.
Just as Moses had promised, Judah gave Hebron to Caleb, who drove out the descendants of the three sons of Anak.
21 ௨௧ பென்யமீனின் மகன்கள் எருசலேமிலே குடியிருந்த எபூசியர்களையும் துரத்திவிடவில்லை; எனவே, எபூசியர்கள் இந்த நாள்வரை பென்யமீன் மக்களோடு எருசலேமில் குடியிருக்கிறார்கள்.
The Benjamites, however, failed to drive out the Jebusites living in Jerusalem. So to this day the Jebusites live there among the Benjamites.
The house of Joseph also attacked Bethel, and the LORD was with them.
23 ௨௩ யோசேப்பின் குடும்பத்தினர் பெத்தேலை வேவுபார்க்க ஆட்களை அனுப்பினார்கள்; முன்னே அந்தப் பட்டணத்திற்கு லூஸ் என்று பெயர்.
They sent spies to Bethel (formerly known as Luz),
24 ௨௪ அந்த வேவுகாரர்கள் பட்டணத்திலிருந்து புறப்பட்டுவருகிற ஒரு மனிதனைக் கண்டு: பட்டணத்திற்குள் நுழையும் வழியை எங்களுக்குக் காண்பி, உனக்குத் தயைசெய்வோம் என்றார்கள்.
and when the spies saw a man coming out of the city, they said to him, “Please show us how to get into the city, and we will treat you kindly.”
25 ௨௫ அப்படியே பட்டணத்திற்குள் நுழையும் வழியை அவர்களுக்குக் காண்பித்தான்; அப்பொழுது அவர்கள் வந்து, பட்டணத்தில் உள்ளவர்களைக் கூர்மையான பட்டயத்தினால் வெட்டி, அந்த மனிதனையும் அவனுடைய குடும்பத்தையும் விட்டுவிட்டார்கள்.
So the man showed them the entrance to the city, and they put the city to the sword but released that man and all his family.
26 ௨௬ அப்பொழுது அந்த மனிதன் ஏத்தியர்களின் தேசத்திற்குப் போய், ஒரு பட்டணத்தைக் கட்டி, அதற்கு லூஸ் என்று பெயரிட்டான்; அதுதான் இந்த நாள்வரை அதினுடைய பெயர்.
And the man went to the land of the Hittites, built a city, and called it Luz, which is its name to this day.
27 ௨௭ மனாசே கோத்திரத்தார்கள் பெத்செயான் பட்டணத்தார்களையும் அதற்கு அடுத்த ஊர்களின் மனிதர்களையும், தானாக் பட்டணத்தார்களையும் அதற்கு அடுத்த ஊர்களின் மனிதர்களையும், தோரில் குடியிருப்பவர்களையும் அதற்கு அடுத்த ஊர்களின் மனிதர்களையும், இப்லேயாம் பட்டணத்தார்களையும் அதற்கு அடுத்த ஊர்களின் மனிதர்களையும், மெகிதோவில் குடியிருப்பவர்களையும் அதற்கு அடுத்த ஊர்களின் மனிதர்களையும் துரத்திவிடவில்லை; கானானியர்கள் அந்த தேசத்தில்தான் குடியிருக்கவேண்டும் என்றிருந்தார்கள்.
At that time Manasseh failed to drive out the inhabitants of Beth-shean, Taanach, Dor, Ibleam, Megiddo, and their villages; for the Canaanites were determined to dwell in that land.
28 ௨௮ இஸ்ரவேலர்கள் பலத்தபோது, கானானியர்களை முழுவதும் துரத்திவிடாமல் அவர்களை கட்டாயப்படுத்தி கடினமாக வேலை செய்யவைத்தார்கள்.
When Israel became stronger, they pressed the Canaanites into forced labor, but they never drove them out completely.
29 ௨௯ எப்பிராயீம் கோத்திரத்தார்கள், கேசேரிலே குடியிருந்த கானானியர்களையும் துரத்திவிடவில்லை; ஆகவே, கானானியர்கள் அவர்களோடு குடியிருந்தார்கள்.
Ephraim also failed to drive out the Canaanites living in Gezer; so the Canaanites continued to dwell among them in Gezer.
30 ௩0 செபுலோன் கோத்திரத்தார்கள், கித்ரோனில் குடியிருக்கிறவர்களையும், நாகலோலில் குடியிருக்கிறவர்களையும் துரத்திவிடவில்லை. ஆகவே, கானானியர்கள், அவர்களோடு குடியிருந்து, கடினமாக வேலை செய்வதற்குக் கட்டாயப்படுத்தப்பட்டார்கள்.
Zebulun failed to drive out the inhabitants of Kitron and Nahalol; so the Canaanites lived among them and served as forced laborers.
31 ௩௧ ஆசேர் கோத்திரத்தார்கள், அக்கோவில் குடியிருக்கிறவர்களையும், சீதோனில் குடியிருக்கிறவர்களையும், அக்லாப், அக்சீப், எல்பா, ஆப்பீக், ரேகோப் பட்டணங்களில் குடியிருக்கிறவர்களையும் துரத்திவிடவில்லை.
Asher failed to drive out the inhabitants of Acco, Sidon, Ahlab, Achzib, Helbah, Aphik, and Rehob.
32 ௩௨ ஆசேரியர்கள், தேசத்தில் குடியிருக்கிறவர்களாகிய கானானியர்களோடு குடியிருந்தார்கள்; அவர்களை அவர்கள் துரத்திவிடவில்லை.
So the Asherites lived among the Canaanite inhabitants of the land, because they did not drive them out.
33 ௩௩ நப்தலி கோத்திரத்தார்கள், பெத்ஷிமேசில் குடியிருக்கிறவர்களையும், பெத்தானாத்தில் குடியிருக்கிறவர்களையும் துரத்திவிடாமல், தேசத்தில் குடியிருக்கிறவர்களாகிய கானானியர்களோடு குடியிருந்தார்கள்; பெத்ஷிமேஸ், பெத்தானாத் பட்டணங்களில் குடியிருக்கிறவர்களும் அவர்களுக்கு கடினமாக வேலை செய்வதற்குக் கட்டாயப்படுத்தப்பட்டார்கள்.
Naphtali failed to drive out the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh and Beth-anath. So the Naphtalites also lived among the Canaanite inhabitants of the land, but the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh and Beth-anath served them as forced laborers.
34 ௩௪ எமோரியர்கள் தாண் கோத்திரத்தார்களைப் பள்ளத்தாக்கில் இறங்கவிடாமல், மலைத்தேசத்திற்குப் போகும்படிக் கட்டாயப்படுத்தினார்கள்.
The Amorites forced the Danites into the hill country and did not allow them to come down into the plain.
35 ௩௫ எமோரியர்கள் ஏரேஸ் மலைகளிலும், ஆயலோனிலும், சால்பீமிலும் குடியிருக்கவேண்டும் என்றிருந்தார்கள்; ஆனாலும் யோசேப்பின் குடும்பத்தார்களின் பலம் பெருகினபடியால், அவர்களுக்கு கடினமாக வேலை செய்வதற்குக் கட்டாயப்படுத்தப்பட்டார்கள்.
And the Amorites were determined to dwell in Mount Heres, Aijalon, and Shaalbim. But when the house of Joseph grew in strength, they pressed the Amorites into forced labor.
And the border of the Amorites extended from the Ascent of Akrabbim to Sela and beyond.
