யாத்திராகமம் 16
1 ௧ இஸ்ரவேலர்களாகிய சபையார்கள் எல்லோரும் ஏலிமைவிட்டு பயணம்செய்து, எகிப்து தேசத்திலிருந்து புறப்பட்ட இரண்டாம் மாதம் பதினைந்தாம் தேதியிலே, ஏலிமுக்கும் சீனாய்க்கும் நடுவே இருக்கிற சீன் வனாந்திரத்திற்கு வந்துசேர்ந்தார்கள்.
The whole Israelite community left Elim and went to the Desert of Sin, between Elim and Sinai. This was on the fifteenth day of the second month after they had left the land of Egypt.
2 ௨ அந்த வனாந்திரத்திலே இஸ்ரவேலர்களாகிய சபையார்கள் எல்லோரும் மோசேக்கும் ஆரோனுக்கும் விரோதமாக முறுமுறுத்து:
There in the desert they complained to Moses and Aaron.
3 ௩ “நாங்கள் இறைச்சிப் பாத்திரங்களின் அருகிலே உட்கார்ந்து அப்பத்தைத் திருப்தியாகச் சாப்பிட்ட எகிப்து தேசத்தில், யெகோவாவின் கையால் செத்துப்போனால் பரவாயில்லை; இந்தக் கூட்டம் முழுவதையும் பட்டினியினால் கொல்லும்படி நீங்கள் எங்களைப் புறப்படச்செய்து, இந்த வனாந்திரத்திலே அழைத்துவந்தீர்களே” என்று அவர்களிடம் சொன்னார்கள்.
“The Lord should've killed us back in Egypt!” the Israelites told them. “At least there we could sit down beside stewpots of meat and eat bread until we were full. But you had to bring all of us out here in the desert to starve us all to death!”
4 ௪ அப்பொழுது யெகோவா மோசேயை நோக்கி: “நான் உங்களுக்கு வானத்திலிருந்து அப்பம் வரச்செய்வேன்; மக்கள் போய், ஒவ்வொரு நாளுக்கு வேண்டியதை ஒவ்வொரு நாளிலும் சேர்த்துக்கொள்ளவேண்டும்; அதினால் அவர்கள் என்னுடைய கட்டளையின்படி நடப்பார்களோ நடக்கமாட்டார்களோ என்று அவர்களைச் சோதிப்பேன்.
The Lord told Moses, “Just watch! I'm going to rain down bread from heaven for you! Each day the people are to go out and collect enough for that day. I'm going to test them by this to find out whether they'll follow my instructions or not.
5 ௫ ஆறாம் நாளிலோ, அவர்கள் தினந்தோறும் சேர்க்கிறதைவிட இரண்டுமடங்கு சேர்த்து, அதை ஆயத்தம்செய்து வைக்கவேண்டும்” என்றார்.
On the sixth day they are to collect twice as much as usual and prepare it.”
6 ௬ அப்பொழுது மோசேயும் ஆரோனும் இஸ்ரவேல் மக்கள் எல்லோரையும் நோக்கி: “யெகோவாவே உங்களை எகிப்து தேசத்திலிருந்து புறப்படச்செய்தவர் என்பதை மாலையில் அறிவீர்கள்;
So Moses and Aaron explained to all the Israelites, “This evening you will have the proof that it was the Lord who led you out of Egypt,
7 ௭ அதிகாலையில் யெகோவாடைய மகிமையையும் காண்பீர்கள்; யெகோவாவுக்கு விரோதமான உங்களுடைய முறுமுறுப்புகளை அவர் கேட்டார்; நீங்கள் எங்களுக்கு விரோதமாக முறுமுறுப்பதற்கு நாங்கள் எம்மாத்திரம்” என்றார்கள்.
and in the morning you will see the glory of the Lord displayed as he responds to the complaints he's heard you making against him. For why should you be complaining to us? We're nobodies!”
8 ௮ பின்னும் மோசே: “மாலையில் நீங்கள் சாப்பிடுவதற்குக் யெகோவா உங்களுக்கு இறைச்சியையும், அதிகாலையில் நீங்கள் திருப்தியடைவதற்கு அப்பத்தையும் கொடுக்கும்போது இது வெளிப்படும்; யெகோவாவுக்கு விரோதமாக நீங்கள் முறுமுறுத்த உங்களுடைய முறுமுறுப்புகளை அவர் கேட்டார்; நாங்கள் எம்மாத்திரம்? உங்களுடைய முறுமுறுப்புகள் எங்களுக்கு அல்ல, யெகோவாவுக்கே விரோதமாக இருக்கிறது” என்றான்.
Then Moses continued, “The Lord is going to give you meat to eat this evening and as much bread as you want in the morning, for he has heard your complaints against him. Why are you complaining to us nobodies? Your complaints aren't directed against us, but against the Lord.”
9 ௯ அப்பொழுது மோசே ஆரோனைப் பார்த்து: “நீ இஸ்ரவேல் மக்களாகிய சபையார்கள் எல்லோரையும் நோக்கி: யெகோவாவுக்கு முன்பாக சேருங்கள், அவர் உங்களுடைய முறுமுறுப்புகளைக் கேட்டார் என்று சொல்” என்றான்.
Then Moses said to Aaron, “Tell the whole Israelite community, ‘Present yourselves before the Lord, because he has heard your complaints.’”
10 ௧0 ஆரோன் இஸ்ரவேல் மக்களாகிய சபையார்களுக்கெல்லாம் இதைச் சொல்லுகிறபோது, அவர்கள் வனாந்திரதிசையாகத் திரும்பிப்பார்த்தார்கள்; அப்பொழுது யெகோவாவுடைய மகிமை மேகத்திலே காணப்பட்டது.
While Aaron was still speaking to all the Israelites, they looked toward the desert and saw the glory of the Lord appear in a cloud.
The Lord told Moses,
12 ௧௨ “இஸ்ரவேல் மக்களின் முறுமுறுப்புகளைக் கேட்டிருக்கிறேன்; நீ அவர்களுடன் பேசி, நீங்கள் மாலையில் இறைச்சியைச் சாப்பிட்டு, அதிகாலையில் அப்பத்தால் திருப்தியாகி, நான் உங்களுடைய தேவனாகிய யெகோவா என்பதை அறிந்துகொள்வீர்கள் என்று சொல்” என்றார்.
“I have heard the complaints of the Israelites. Tell them, ‘In the evening you will eat meat, and in the morning you will have as much bread as you want. Then you will know that I am the Lord your God.’”
13 ௧௩ மாலையில் காடைகள் வந்து விழுந்து முகாமை மூடிக்கொண்டது. அதிகாலையில் முகாமைச் சுற்றி பனி பெய்திருந்தது.
That evening quail flew in and landed, filling the camp. In the morning dew covered the ground all around the camp.
14 ௧௪ பெய்திருந்த பனி நீங்கினபின்பு, இதோ, வனாந்திரத்தின்மீது எங்கும் உருண்டையான ஒரு சிறிய பொருள் உறைந்த பனிக்கட்டிப் பொடியைப்போலத் தரையின்மேல் கிடந்தது.
Once the dew had gone, there was something thin and flaky on the desert, looking like frost crystals on the ground.
15 ௧௫ இஸ்ரவேல் மக்கள் அதைக் கண்டு, அது என்னவென்று அறியாமல் இருந்து, ஒருவரை ஒருவர் பார்த்து, “இது என்ன என்றார்கள்; அப்பொழுது மோசே அவர்களை நோக்கி: “இது யெகோவா உங்களுக்குச் சாப்பிடக்கொடுத்த அப்பம்.
When the Israelites saw it, they asked each another, “What is it?” because they had no idea what it was. So Moses explained to them, “It's the bread the Lord has provided for you to eat.
16 ௧௬ யெகோவா கட்டளையிடுகிறது என்னவென்றால், அவரவர் சாப்பிடும் அளவுக்குத் தகுந்தபடி அதில் எடுத்துச் சேர்க்கட்டும்; உங்களிலுள்ள நபர்களின் எண்ணிக்கையின்படி, அவனவன் தன் தன் கூடாரத்தில் இருக்கிறவர்களுக்காக தலைக்கு ஒரு ஓமர் அளவு எடுத்துக்கொள்ளட்டும்” என்றான்.
This is what the Lord has ordered you to do: ‘All of you shall collect as much as is needed. Take an omer for each person in your tent.’”
So the Israelites did as they were told. Some collected more, while others collected less.
18 ௧௮ பின்பு, அதை ஓமரால் அளந்தார்கள்: அதிகமாகச் சேர்த்தவனுக்கு மீதியானதும் இல்லை, குறைவாகச் சேர்த்தவனுக்குக் குறைவானதும் இல்லை; அவரவர் தாங்கள் சாப்பிடும் அளவுக்குத்தகுந்தபடி சேர்த்தார்கள்.
But when they measured it out in omers, those who had collected a lot didn't have any left over, while those who had only collected a little still had enough. Each person collected gathered as much as they needed to eat.
19 ௧௯ மோசே அவர்களை நோக்கி: “ஒருவனும் அதிகாலைவரை அதில் ஒன்றும் வைக்கக்கூடாது என்று அவர்களுக்குச் சொல்லியும்;
Then Moses said to them, “No one is to leave any of it until the morning.”
20 ௨0 மோசேயின் சொல் கேட்காமல், சிலர் அதில் அதிகாலைவரை சிறிதளவு மீதியாக வைத்தார்கள்; அது பூச்சி பிடித்து நாற்றமெடுத்தது. அவர்கள்மேல் மோசே கோபம்கொண்டான்.
But some didn't listen to Moses. They did leave some of it until the morning, and it was full of maggots and smelled bad. Moses became angry with them.
21 ௨௧ அதை அதிகாலைதோறும் அவரவர் சாப்பிடும் அளவுக்குத்தகுந்தபடி சேர்த்தார்கள், வெயில் ஏறஏற அது உருகிப்போகும்.
So each morning everyone collected as much as they needed, and when the sun became hot, it melted away to nothing.
22 ௨௨ ஆறாம் நாளில் தலைக்கு இரண்டு ஓமர் வீதமாக இரண்டுமடங்காக ஆகாரம் சேர்த்தார்கள்; அப்பொழுது சபையின் தலைவர்கள் எல்லோரும் வந்து, அதை மோசேக்கு அறிவித்தார்கள்.
However, on the sixth day, they collected twice as much of this food, two omers for each person. All the Israelite leaders came and told Moses what they had done.
23 ௨௩ அவன் அவர்களை நோக்கி: “யெகோவா சொன்னது இதுதான்; நாளைக்குக் யெகோவாவுக்குறிய பரிசுத்த ஓய்வுநாளாகிய ஓய்வு; நீங்கள் சுடவேண்டியதைச் சுட்டு, வேகவைக்கவேண்டியதை வேகவைத்து, மீதியாக இருக்கிறதையெல்லாம் நாளைவரை உங்களுக்காக வைத்துவையுங்கள்” என்றான்.
Moses replied, “These are the Lord's instructions: ‘Tomorrow is a special day of rest, a holy Sabbath to honor the Lord. So bake what you want, and boil what you want. Then put to one side what's left and keep it until morning.’”
24 ௨௪ மோசே கட்டளையிட்டபடி, அதை மறுநாள்வரைக்கும் வைத்துவைத்தார்கள்; அப்பொழுது அது நாறவும் இல்லை, அதிலே பூச்சிபிடிக்கவும் இல்லை.
So they kept it until morning as Moses had ordered, and it didn't smell bad or have any maggots.
25 ௨௫ அப்பொழுது மோசே; “அதை இன்றைக்குச் சாப்பிடுங்கள்; இன்று யெகோவாவுக்குரிய ஓய்வுநாள்; இன்று நீங்கள் அதை வெளியிலே காணமாட்டீர்கள்.
Moses told them, “Eat it today, because today is a Sabbath to honor the Lord. Today you won't find anything out there.
26 ௨௬ ஆறுநாட்களும் அதைச் சேர்ப்பீர்களாக; ஏழாம்நாள் ஓய்வுநாளாக இருக்கிறது; அதிலே அது உண்டாகாது” என்றான்.
You can go out collecting for six days, but on the seventh day, the Sabbath, it won't be there.”
However, on the seventh day some people still went out collecting, but they did not find anything.
28 ௨௮ அப்பொழுது யெகோவா மோசேயை நோக்கி: “என்னுடைய கட்டளைகளையும் என்னுடைய சட்டங்களையும் கைக்கொள்ள எதுவரை மனம் இல்லாமல் இருப்பீர்கள்?
The Lord told Moses, “How long are you going to refuse to obey my commands and instructions?
29 ௨௯ பாருங்கள், யெகோவா உங்களுக்கு ஓய்வுநாளை கொடுத்தபடியால், அவர் உங்களுக்கு ஆறாம்நாளில் இரண்டு நாளுக்கு வேண்டிய ஆகாரத்தைக் கொடுக்கிறார்; ஏழாம்நாளில் உங்களில் ஒருவனும் தன்தன் இடத்திலிருந்து புறப்படாமல், அவனவன் தன் தன் இடத்திலே இருக்கவேண்டும்” என்றார்.
You need to understand that the Lord has given you the Sabbath, so on the sixth day he will provide you with food for two days. On the seventh day, everyone has to stay where they are—no one needs to go out.”
So the people did no work on the seventh day.
31 ௩௧ இஸ்ரவேல் மக்கள் அதற்கு மன்னா என்று பெயரிட்டார்கள்; அது கொத்துமல்லி அளவாகவும் வெண்மைநிறமாகவும் இருந்தது, அதின் ருசி தேனிட்ட பணியாரத்தைப்போல இருந்தது.
The Israelites called the food manna. It was white like coriander seed and tasted like wafers with honey.
32 ௩௨ அப்பொழுது மோசே: “யெகோவா கட்டளையிட்ட காரியம் என்னவென்றால், நான் உங்களை எகிப்து தேசத்திலிருந்து புறப்படச்செய்தபோது, வனாந்திரத்தில் உங்களுக்கு சாப்பிடக்கொடுத்த அப்பத்தை உங்கள் சந்ததியார்கள் பார்க்கும்படி, அவர்களுக்காக அதைப் பாதுகாப்பதற்கு, அதிலே ஒரு ஓமர் நிறைய எடுத்து வைக்கவேண்டும்” என்றான்.
Moses said, “This is what the Lord has ordered: ‘Keep an omer of manna as a reminder for future generations, so that they can see the food I used to feed you in the desert when I led you out of Egypt.’”
33 ௩௩ மேலும், மோசே ஆரோனை நோக்கி: “நீ ஒரு பாத்திரத்தை எடுத்து, அதிலே ஒரு ஓமர் அளவு மன்னாவைப் போட்டு, அதை உங்களுடைய சந்ததியார்களுக்காகப் பாதுகாப்பதற்குக் யெகோவாவுடைய சந்நிதியிலே வை” என்றான்.
So Moses told Aaron, “Take a jar and put an omer of manna in it. Then place it before the Lord to be kept as a reminder for future generations.”
34 ௩௪ யெகோவா மோசேக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டபடியே அது காக்கப்படும்படி ஆரோன் அதைச் சாட்சி சந்நிதியில் வைத்தான்.
Aaron did so and placed the jar in front of the Testimony, to be preserved just as the Lord had ordered Moses.
35 ௩௫ இஸ்ரவேல் மக்கள் குடியிருப்பான தேசத்திற்கு வரும்வரை நாற்பது வருடங்கள் மன்னாவை சாப்பிட்டார்கள்; அவர்கள் கானான் தேசத்தின் எல்லையில் சேரும்வரையும் மன்னாவை சாப்பிட்டார்கள்.
The Israelites ate manna forty years, until they came to the land where they would settle down—they ate manna until they arrived at the border of Canaan.
(An omer is a tenth of an ephah.)
