எஸ்தர் 1
1 ௧ இந்திய தேசம் முதல் கூஷ் தேசம்வரையுள்ள 127 நாடுகளையும் அரசாட்சி செய்த அகாஸ்வேருவின் நாட்களிலே சம்பவித்ததாவது:
Now in the days of Ahasuerus (this is Ahasuerus who reigned from India even to Ethiopia, over one hundred and twenty-seven provinces),
2 ௨ ராஜாவாகிய அகாஸ்வேரு சூசான் அரண்மனையில் இருக்கிற தன்னுடைய ராஜ்ஜியத்தின் சிங்காசனத்தின்மேல் அமர்ந்திருந்தான்.
in those days, when the King Ahasuerus sat on the throne of his kingdom, which was in Susa the palace,
3 ௩ அவனுடைய அரசாட்சியின் மூன்றாம் வருடத்திலே தன்னுடைய அதிகாரிகளுக்கும் வேலைக்காரர்களுக்கும் விருந்தளித்தான்; அப்பொழுது பெர்சியா மேதியா தேசங்களிலுள்ள மகத்தானவர்களும், நாடுகளின் ஆளுனர்களும், பிரபுக்களும், அவனுடைய சமுகத்தில் வந்திருந்தார்கள்.
in the third year of his reign, he made a feast for all his princes and his servants; the army of Persia and Media, the nobles and princes of the provinces being before him.
4 ௪ அவன் தன்னுடைய ராஜ்ஜியத்தின் மகிமையான ஐசுவரியத்தையும், தன்னுடைய மகத்துவத்தின் மகிமையான பெருமைகளையும் 180 நாட்கள்வரையும் காண்பித்துக்கொண்டிருந்தான்.
He displayed the riches of his glorious kingdom and the honour of his excellent majesty many days, even one hundred and eighty days.
5 ௫ அந்த நாட்கள் முடிந்தபோது, ராஜா சூசான் அரண்மனையில் வந்திருந்த பெரியோர்முதல் சிறியோர்வரையுள்ள எல்லா மக்களுக்கும் ராஜ அரண்மனையைச்சேர்ந்த சிங்காரத்தோட்டத்திலுள்ள மண்டபத்தில் ஏழு நாட்கள் விருந்தளித்தான்.
When these days were fulfilled, the king made a seven day feast for all the people who were present in Susa the palace, both great and small, in the court of the garden of the king’s palace.
6 ௬ அங்கே வெண்கலத் தூண்களின்மேலே உள்ள வெள்ளி வளையங்களில் மெல்லிய நூலும் சிவப்பு நூலுமான கயிறுகளால் வெள்ளையும் பச்சையும் இளநீலமுமாகிய தொங்குதிரைகள் அலங்கரிக்கப்பட்டிருந்தது; சிவப்பும் நீலமும் வெள்ளையும் கறுப்புமான கற்கள் பதித்திருந்த தளவரிசையின்மேல் பொற்சரிகையும் வெள்ளிச்சரிகையுமான மெத்தைகள் வைக்கப்பட்டிருந்தது.
There were hangings of white and blue material, fastened with cords of fine linen and purple to silver rings and marble pillars. The couches were of gold and silver, on a pavement of red, white, yellow, and black marble.
7 ௭ பொன்னால் செய்யப்பட்ட பலவித பாத்திரங்களிலே பானம் கொடுக்கப்பட்டது; முதல்தரமான திராட்சைரசம் ராஜாவின் கொடைத்தன்மைக்கு ஏற்றவாறு பரிபூரணமாகப் பரிமாறப்பட்டது.
They gave them drinks in golden vessels of various kinds, including royal wine in abundance, according to the bounty of the king.
8 ௮ அவரவருடைய மனதின்படியே செய்யலாம் என்று ராஜா தன்னுடைய அரண்மனையின் பெரிய மனிதர்களுக்கெல்லாம் கட்டளையிட்டிருந்தபடியால், முறைப்படி குடித்தார்கள்; ஒருவனும் கட்டாயப்படுத்தவில்லை.
In accordance with the law, the drinking was not compulsory; for so the king had instructed all the officials of his house, that they should do according to every man’s pleasure.
Also Vashti the queen made a feast for the women in the royal house which belonged to King Ahasuerus.
10 ௧0 ஏழாம் நாளிலே ராஜா திராட்சைரசத்தினால் சந்தோஷமாக இருக்கும்போது, பேரழகியாயிருந்த ராணியாகிய வஸ்தியின் அழகை மக்களுக்கும் அதிகாரிகளுக்கும் காண்பிப்பதற்காக, ராஜகிரீடம் அணிந்தவளாக, அவளைத் தனக்கு முன்பாக அழைத்துவரவேண்டுமென்று,
On the seventh day, when the heart of the king was merry with wine, he commanded Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha, and Abagtha, Zethar, and Carcass, the seven eunuchs who served in the presence of Ahasuerus the king,
11 ௧௧ ராஜாவாகிய அகாஸ்வேருவின் சமுகத்தில் பணிவிடை செய்கிற மெகுமான், பிஸ்தா, அற்போனா, பிக்தா, அபக்தா, சேதார், கர்காஸ் என்னும் ஏழு பிரதானிகளுக்கும் ராஜா கட்டளையிட்டான்.
to bring Vashti the queen before the king wearing the royal crown, to show the people and the princes her beauty; for she was beautiful.
12 ௧௨ ஆனாலும் பிரதானிகள் மூலமாய் ராஜா சொல்லியனுப்பின கட்டளைக்கு ராணியாகிய வஸ்தி வரமாட்டேன் என்றாள்; அப்பொழுது ராஜா கடுங்கோபமடைந்து, தனக்குள்ளே எரிச்சல் அடைந்தான்.
But the queen Vashti refused to come at the king’s commandment by the eunuchs. Therefore the king was very angry, and his anger burnt in him.
13 ௧௩ அந்த சமயத்தில் ராஜசமுகத்தில் இருக்கிறவர்களும், ராஜ்ஜியத்தின் முதன்மை ஆசனங்களில் உட்காருகிறவர்களுமான கர்ஷேனா, சேதார், அத்மாதா, தர்ஷீஸ், மேரேஸ், மர்சேனா, மெமுகான் என்னும் பெர்சியர்கள் மேதியர்களுடைய ஏழு பிரபுக்களும் அவன் அருகில் இருந்தார்கள்.
Then the king said to the wise men, who knew the times (for it was the king’s custom to consult those who knew law and judgement;
14 ௧௪ ராஜா நியாயப்பிரமாணத்தையும் ராஜநீதியையும் அறிந்தவர்களிடம் பேசுவது தனக்கு வழக்கமானபடியால், காலாகால செயல்பாடுகளை அறிந்த பண்டிதர்களை நோக்கி:
and next to him were Carshena, Shethar, Admatha, Tarshish, Meres, Marsena, and Memucan, the seven princes of Persia and Media, who saw the king’s face, and sat first in the kingdom),
15 ௧௫ ராஜாவாகிய அகாஸ்வேரு அதிகாரிகளின் மூலமாகச் சொல்லியனுப்பின கட்டளையின்படி ராணியாகிய வஸ்தி செய்யாமற்போனதினால், தேசத்தின் சட்டப்படி அவளுக்குச் செய்யவேண்டியது என்ன என்று கேட்டான்.
“What shall we do to Queen Vashti according to law, because she has not done the bidding of the King Ahasuerus by the eunuchs?”
16 ௧௬ அப்பொழுது மெமுகான் ராஜாவிற்கும் பிரபுக்களுக்கும் முன்னே மறுமொழியாக: ராணியாகிய வஸ்தி ராஜாவிற்கு மட்டும் அல்ல, ராஜாவாகிய அகாஸ்வேருவினுடைய எல்லா நாடுகளிலுமுள்ள எல்லாபிரபுக்களுக்கும் எல்லா மக்களுக்குங்கூட அநியாயம் செய்தாள்.
Memucan answered before the king and the princes, “Vashti the queen has not done wrong to just the king, but also to all the princes, and to all the people who are in all the provinces of the King Ahasuerus.
17 ௧௭ ராஜாவாகிய அகாஸ்வேரு ராணியாகிய வஸ்தியைத் தமக்கு முன்பாக அழைத்துவரச் சொன்னபோது, அவள் வரமாட்டேன் என்று சொன்ன செய்தி எல்லாப் பெண்களுக்கும் தெரியவந்தால், அவர்களும் தங்களுடைய கணவன்களைத் தங்களுடைய பார்வையில் அற்பமாக நினைப்பார்கள்.
For this deed of the queen will become known to all women, causing them to show contempt for their husbands when it is reported, ‘King Ahasuerus commanded Vashti the queen to be brought in before him, but she didn’t come.’
18 ௧௮ இன்றையதினமே பெர்சியாவிலும் மேதியாவிலுமுள்ள பிரபுக்களின் பெண்கள் ராணியின் செய்தியைக் கேட்கும்போது, ராஜாவின் பிரபுக்களுக்கெல்லாம் அப்படியே சொல்லுவார்கள்; மிகுந்த அசட்டையும் எரிச்சலும் விளையும்.
Today, the princesses of Persia and Media who have heard of the queen’s deed will tell all the king’s princes. This will cause much contempt and wrath.
19 ௧௯ ராஜாவிற்கு விருப்பமாக இருந்தால், வஸ்தி இனி ராஜாவாகிய அகாஸ்வேருவுக்கு முன்பாக வரக்கூடாது என்றும், அவளுடைய ராஜமேன்மையை அவளைவிட சிறந்த மற்றொரு பெண்ணுக்கு ராஜா கொடுப்பாராக என்றும், அவரால் ஒரு ராஜகட்டளை அனுப்பி, அது மீறப்படாதபடி, பெர்சியாவுக்கும் மேதியாவுக்கும் உரிய தேசத்தின் சட்டத்திலும் எழுதப்படவேண்டும்.
“If it pleases the king, let a royal commandment go from him, and let it be written amongst the laws of the Persians and the Medes, so that it cannot be altered, that Vashti may never again come before King Ahasuerus; and let the king give her royal estate to another who is better than she.
20 ௨0 இப்படி ராஜா முடிவெடுத்த காரியம் தமது ராஜ்ஜியமெங்கும் கேட்கப்படும்போது, பெரியோர்முதல் சிறியோர்வரையுள்ள எல்லாப் பெண்களும் தங்கள் கணவன்களை மதிப்பார்கள் என்றான்.
When the king’s decree which he shall make is published throughout all his kingdom (for it is great), all the wives will give their husbands honour, both great and small.”
21 ௨௧ இந்த வார்த்தை ராஜாவிற்கும் பிரபுக்களுக்கும் நலமாகத் தோன்றியதால், ராஜா மெமுகானுடைய வார்த்தையின்படியே செய்து,
This advice pleased the king and the princes, and the king did according to the word of Memucan:
22 ௨௨ எந்த கணவனும் தன்னுடைய வீட்டிற்குத் தானே அதிகாரியாக இருக்கவேண்டும் என்றும், இதை அந்தந்த மக்களுடைய மொழியிலே அறிவிக்கப்பட வேண்டும் என்றும், அந்தந்த நாட்டில் வழங்குகிற சொந்த எழுத்திலும், அந்தந்த தேசத்தில் பேசுகிற மொழிகளிலும், ராஜாவின் எல்லா நாடுகளுக்கும் கட்டளை எழுதி அனுப்பினான்.
for he sent letters into all the king’s provinces, into every province according to its writing, and to every people in their language, that every man should rule his own house, speaking in the language of his own people.
