1 ௧ யூதாவின் ராஜாவாகிய யோயாக்கீம் ஆட்சிசெய்த மூன்றாம் வருடத்திலே பாபிலோனின் ராஜாவாகிய நேபுகாத்நேச்சார் எருசலேமிற்கு வந்து, அதை முற்றுகையிட்டான்.

2 ௨ அப்பொழுது ஆண்டவர் யூதாவின் ராஜாவாகிய யோயாக்கீமையும் தேவனுடைய ஆலயத்தின் பாத்திரங்களில் சிலவற்றையும் அவனுடைய கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தார்; அவன் அந்தப் பாத்திரங்களைச் சினேயார் தேசத்திலுள்ள தன் தெய்வத்தின் கோவிலுக்குக் கொண்டுபோய், அவைகளைத் தன் தெய்வத்தின் கருவூலத்திற்குள் வைத்தான்.

3 ௩ அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேல் மக்களுக்குள்ளே ராஜவம்சத்தார்களிலும் உயர்குடிமக்களிலும் எந்தவொரு குறைபாடும் இல்லாதவர்களும், அழகானவர்களும், சகல ஞானத்திலும் தேறினவர்களும், அறிவில் சிறந்தவர்களும், கல்வியில் நிபுணர்களும், ராஜாவின் அரண்மனையிலே வேலைசெய்யத் திறமையுள்ளவர்களுமாகிய சில வாலிபர்களைக் கொண்டுவரவும்,

4 ௪ அவர்களுக்குக் கல்தேயரின் எழுத்தையும் மொழியையும் கற்றுக்கொடுக்கவும் ராஜா தன் அதிகாரிகளின் தலைவனாகிய அஸ்பேனாசுக்கு கட்டளையிட்டான்.

5 ௫ ராஜா, தான் சாப்பிடும் உணவிலேயும் தான் குடிக்கும் திராட்சைரசத்திலேயும் தினம் ஒரு பங்கை அவர்களுக்கு நியமித்து, அவர்களை மூன்றுவருடங்கள் வளர்க்கவும், அதின் முடிவிலே அவர்கள் ராஜாவிற்கு முன்பாக நிற்கும்படிசெய்யவும் கட்டளையிட்டான்.

8 ௮ தானியேல் ராஜா குறித்திருக்கிற உணவினாலும் அவர் குடிக்கும் திராட்சைரசத்தினாலும் தன்னைத் தீட்டுப்படுத்தக்கூடாதென்று, தன் இருதயத்தில் தீர்மானம்செய்துகொண்டு, தன்னைத் தீட்டுப்படுத்தாதபடி அதிகாரிகளின் தலைவனிடத்தில் வேண்டிக்கொண்டான்.
and to set: make Daniel upon heart his which not to defile in/on/with choice [the] king and in/on/with wine feast his and to seek from ruler [the] eunuch which not to defile
and to give: give [the] God [obj] Daniel to/for kindness and to/for compassion to/for face of ruler [the] eunuch
10 ௧0 அதிகாரிகளின் தலைவன் தானியேலை நோக்கி: உங்களுக்கு உணவையும் பானத்தையும் குறித்திருக்கிற ராஜாவாகிய என் எஜமானுக்கு நான் பயப்படுகிறேன்; அவர் உங்களோடிருக்கிற வாலிபர்களின் முகங்களைப்பார்க்கிலும் உங்கள் முகங்கள் வாடிப்போனவைகளாக ஏன் காணப்படவேண்டும்? அதினால் ராஜா எனக்கு மரணதண்டனை கொடுப்பாரே என்றான்.

11 ௧௧ அப்பொழுது அதிகாரிகளின் தலைவனாலே, தானியேல், அனனியா, மீஷாவேல், அசரியா என்பவர்கள்மேல் விசாரிப்புக்காரனாக வைக்கப்பட்ட மேல்ஷார் என்பவனை தானியேல் நோக்கி:
and to say Daniel to(wards) [the] `steward` which to count ruler [the] eunuch upon Daniel Hananiah Mishael and Azariah
12 ௧௨ பத்துநாட்கள்வரைக்கும் உமது அடியார்களைச் சோதித்துப்பாரும்; எங்களுக்கு சாப்பிட பருப்பு முதலான காய்கறிகளையும், குடிக்கத் தண்ணீரையும் கொடுத்து,
to test please [obj] servant/slave your day ten and to give: give to/for us from [the] vegetable and to eat and water and to drink
13 ௧௩ எங்கள் முகங்களையும், ராஜஉணவைச் சாப்பிடுகிற வாலிபர்களுடைய முகங்களையும் ஒப்பிட்டுப்பாரும்; பின்பு நீர் காண்கிறபடி உமது அடியார்களுக்குச் செய்யும் என்றான்.

14 ௧௪ அவன் இந்தக் காரியத்திலே அவர்களுக்குச் செவிகொடுத்து, பத்துநாட்கள்வரை அவர்களைச் சோதித்துப்பார்த்தான்.

15 ௧௫ பத்துநாட்கள் சென்றபின்பு, ராஜஉணவைச் சாப்பிட்ட எல்லா வாலிபர்களைப்பார்க்கிலும் அவர்கள் முகம் தெளிவுள்ளதாகவும், உடல் திடமுள்ளதாகவும் காணப்பட்டது.

16 ௧௬ ஆகையால் மேல்ஷார் அவர்கள் சாப்பிடச்சொன்ன உணவையும், அவர்கள் குடிக்கச்சொன்ன திராட்சைரசத்தையும் நீக்கிவைத்து, அவர்களுக்குப் பருப்பு முதலானவைகளைக் கொடுத்தான்.

17 ௧௭ இந்த நான்கு வாலிபர்களுக்கும் தேவன் சகல எழுத்திலும் ஞானத்திலும் அறிவையும் சாமர்த்தியத்தையும் கொடுத்தார்; தானியேலைச் சகல தரிசனங்களையும் கனவுகளையும் அறியத்தக்க அறிவுள்ளவனாக்கினார்.
and [the] youth [the] these four their to give: give to/for them [the] God knowledge and be prudent in/on/with all scroll: book and wisdom and Daniel to understand in/on/with all vision and dream
18 ௧௮ அவர்களை ராஜாவினிடத்தில் கொண்டுவருகிறதற்குக் குறித்த நாட்கள் நிறைவேறினபோது, அதிகாரிகளின் தலைவன் அவர்களை நேபுகாத்நேச்சாருக்கு முன்பாகக் கொண்டுவந்து விட்டான்.

19 ௧௯ ராஜா அவர்களுடன் பேசினான்; அவர்கள் எல்லோருக்குள்ளும் தானியேல், அனனியா, மீஷாவேல், அசரியா என்பவர்களைப்போல வேறொருவனும் காணப்படவில்லை; ஆகையால் இவர்கள் ராஜசமுகத்தில் நின்றார்கள்.
and to speak: speak with them [the] king and not to find from all their like/as Daniel Hananiah Mishael and Azariah and to stand: stand to/for face: before [the] king
20 ௨0 ஞானத்திற்கும் புத்திக்குமுரிய எந்த விஷயத்தில் ராஜா அவர்களைக் கேட்டு விசாரித்தானோ, அதிலே தன் ராஜ்ஜியம் எங்குமுள்ள சகல ஞானிகளிலும் சோதிடர்களிலும் அவர்களைப் பத்துமடங்கு திறமையுள்ளவர்களாகக் கண்டான்.
and all word: thing wisdom understanding which to seek from them [the] king and to find them ten hand: times upon all [the] magician [the] enchanter which in/on/with all royalty his
and to be Daniel till year one to/for Cyrus [the] king
