அப்போஸ்தலர் 17
1 ௧ அவர்கள் அம்பிபோலி பட்டணத்தையும் அப்பொலோனியா பட்டணத்தையும் கடந்து, தெசலோனிக்கே பட்டணத்திற்கு வந்தார்கள்; அங்கே யூதர்களுக்கு ஒரு ஜெப ஆலயம் இருந்தது.
Now when they had walked through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they arrived at Thessalonica, where there was a synagogue of the Jews.
2 ௨ பவுல் தன் வழக்கத்தின்படியே அங்குபோய், மூன்று ஓய்வுநாட்களில் வேதவாக்கியங்களின் நியாயங்களை எடுத்து அவர்களோடு பேசி,
Then Paul, according to custom, entered to them. And for three Sabbaths he disputed with them about the Scriptures,
3 ௩ கிறிஸ்து பாடுபடவும் மரித்தோரிலிருந்து உயிரோடு எழுந்திருக்கவும் வேண்டுமென்றும், நான் உங்களுக்கு அறிவிக்கிற இந்த இயேசுவே கிறிஸ்து என்றும் வேதவாக்கியங்களிலிருந்து காண்பித்தான்.
interpreting and concluding that it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise again from the dead, and that “this is the Jesus Christ, whom I am announcing to you.”
4 ௪ அவர்களில் சிலரும், பக்தியுள்ள கிரேக்கர்களில் அநேகரும், கனம்பெற்ற பெண்களில் அநேகரும் விசுவாசித்து, பவுல் சீலாவிடம் சேர்ந்துகொண்டார்கள்.
And some of them believed and were joined to Paul and Silas, and a great number of these were from the worshipers and the Gentiles, and not a few were noble women.
5 ௫ விசுவாசிக்காத யூதர்கள் வைராக்கியத்தோடு பொல்லாத மனிதர்கள் சிலரைச் சேர்த்துக்கொண்டு, பட்டணத்தில் கலவரம் உண்டாக்கி, யாசோனுடைய வீட்டைச் சுற்றிவளைத்து, அவர்களைப் பட்டணத்து மக்களிடம் இழுத்துக்கொண்டுவரப் பார்த்தார்கள்.
But the Jews, being jealous, and joining with certain evildoers among the common men, caused a disturbance, and they stirred up the city. And taking up a position near the house of Jason, they sought to lead them out to the people.
6 ௬ அவர்கள் அங்கு இல்லாததால், யாசோனையும் சில சகோதரர்களையும் பட்டணத்து அதிகாரிகளிடத்தில் இழுத்துக்கொண்டுவந்து: உலகத்தைக் கலக்குகிறவர்கள் இங்கேயும் வந்திருக்கிறார்கள்.
And when they had not found them, they dragged Jason and certain brothers to the rulers of the city, crying out: “For these are the ones who have stirred up the city. And they came here,
7 ௭ இவர்களை யாசோன் தன் வீட்டில் சேர்த்துக்கொண்டான். இவர்கள் எல்லோரும் இயேசு என்னும் வேறு ஒருவனை ராஜா என்று சொல்லி, பேரரசனுடைய கட்டளைகளுக்கு எதிராக செயல்படுகிறார்கள் என்று சத்தமிட்டு,
and Jason has received them. And all these men act contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, Jesus.”
And they incited the people. And the rulers of the city, upon hearing these things,
9 ௯ பின்பு அவர்கள் யாசோனிடத்திலும் மற்றவர்களிடத்திலும் ஜாமீன் வாங்கிக்கொண்டு, அவர்களை விட்டுவிட்டார்கள்.
and having received an explanation from Jason and the others, released them.
10 ௧0 அன்று இரவிலே சகோதரர்கள் பவுலையும் சீலாவையும் பெரோயா பட்டணத்திற்கு அனுப்பிவிட்டார்கள்; அவர்கள் அங்கே சென்று, யூதர்களுடைய ஜெப ஆலயத்திற்குப் போனார்கள்.
Yet truly, the brothers promptly sent Paul and Silas away by night to Beroea. And when they had arrived, they entered the synagogue of the Jews.
11 ௧௧ அந்தப் பட்டணத்து மக்கள் வசனத்தை ஆர்வத்தோடு ஏற்றுக்கொண்டு, விஷயங்கள் இப்படியிருக்கிறதா என்று தினமும் வேதவாக்கியங்களை ஆராய்ந்துபார்த்ததினால், தெசலோனிக்கேயில் உள்ளவர்களைவிட நற்பண்பு உடையவர்களாக இருந்தார்கள்.
But these were more noble than those who were at Thessalonica. They received the Word with all enthusiasm, daily examining the Scriptures to see if these things were so.
12 ௧௨ அதனால் அவர்களில் அநேகரும், கிரேக்கர்களில் கனம்பெற்ற அநேக ஆண்களும் பெண்களும் விசுவாசித்தார்கள்.
And indeed, many believed among them, as well as not a few among the honorable Gentile men and women.
13 ௧௩ பெரோயாவிலும் தேவவசனம் பவுலினால் அறிவிக்கப்படுகிறது என்று தெசலோனிக்கேயரான யூதர்களுக்கு தெரிந்தபோது, அங்கேயும் வந்து, மக்களைத் தூண்டிவிட்டார்கள்.
Then, when the Jews of Thessalonica had realized that the Word of God was also preached by Paul at Beroea, they went there also, stirring up and disturbing the multitude.
14 ௧௪ உடனே சகோதரர்கள் பவுலைக் கடல்வழியாக அனுப்பிவிட்டார்கள். சீலாவும் தீமோத்தேயுவும் அங்கே தங்கியிருந்தார்கள்.
And then the brothers quickly sent Paul away, so that he might travel by sea. But Silas and Timothy remained there.
15 ௧௫ பவுலைக் கூட்டிச்சென்றவர்கள் அவனை அத்தேனே பட்டணம்வரைக்கும் கூட்டிக்கொண்டுபோனார்கள். அங்கே பவுல், சீலாவையும் தீமோத்தேயுவையும் சீக்கிரமாக என்னிடம் வரச் சொல்லுங்கள் என்று அவர்களுக்குச் சொல்லி அனுப்பினான்.
Then those who were leading Paul brought him as far as Athens. And having received an order from him to Silas and Timothy, that they should come to him quickly, they set out.
16 ௧௬ அத்தேனே பட்டணத்தில் பவுல் அவர்களுக்காகக் காத்துக்கொண்டிருக்கும்போது, அந்தப் பட்டணம் விக்கிரகங்களால் நிறைந்திருக்கிறதைப் பார்த்து, தன் மனதில் அதிக வைராக்கியம் கொண்டு,
Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred up within him, seeing the city given over to idolatry.
17 ௧௭ ஜெப ஆலயத்தில் யூதர்களோடும், பக்தியுள்ளவர்களோடும், சந்தையில் பார்ப்பவர்களோடும் தினமும் பேசிக்கொண்டிருந்தான்.
And so, he was disputing with the Jews in the synagogue, and with the worshipers, and in public places, throughout each day, with whomever was there.
18 ௧௮ அப்பொழுது எப்பிக்கூரர்களும் ஸ்தோயிக்கர்களுமான ஞானிகளில் சிலர் அவனோடுகூட வாக்குவாதம்பண்ணினார்கள். சிலர்: இந்த வாயாடி என்ன பேசப்போகிறான் என்றார்கள். சிலர்: இவன் அந்நிய தேவதைகளை அறிவிக்கிறவனைப்போல இருக்கிறான் என்றார்கள். அவன் இயேசுவையும் உயிர்த்தெழுதலையும் அவர்களுக்குப் போதித்ததினால் அப்படிச் சொன்னார்கள்.
Now certain Epicurean and Stoic philosophers were arguing with him. And some were saying, “What does this sower of the Word want to say?” Yet others were saying, “He seems to be an announcer for new demons.” For he was announcing to them Jesus and the Resurrection.
19 ௧௯ அவர்கள் அவனை மார்ஸ் மேடைக்கு கூட்டிக்கொண்டுபோய்: நீ சொல்லுகிற இந்த புதிய உபதேசம் என்ன என்று நாங்கள் தெரிந்துகொள்ளலாமா?
And apprehending him, they brought him to the Areopagus, saying: “Are we able to know what this new doctrine is, about which you speak?
20 ௨0 நீ சொன்ன அநேக வினோதமான காரியங்களை எங்களுடைய காதுகளில் கேட்டோம்; அதின் விளக்கம் என்ன என்று தெரிந்துகொள்ள ஆர்வமாக இருக்கிறோம் என்றார்கள்.
For you bring certain new ideas to our ears. And so we would like to know what these things mean.”
21 ௨௧ அந்த அத்தேனே பட்டணத்து மக்கள், அங்கே தங்குகிற வெளிமக்கள் எல்லோரும், வினோதமான காரியங்களைச் சொல்லுவதிலும் கேட்பதிலுமே தங்களுடைய நேரத்தைச் செலவழித்தார்கள்.
(Now all the Athenians, and arriving visitors, were occupying themselves with nothing other than speaking or hearing various new ideas.)
22 ௨௨ அப்பொழுது பவுல் மார்ஸ் மேடையின் நடுவிலே நின்று: அத்தேனே பட்டணத்தாரே, எல்லாக் காரியத்திலும் உங்களை அதிக பக்தியுள்ளவர்களாகப் பார்க்கிறேன்.
But Paul, standing in the middle of the Areopagus, said: “Men of Athens, I perceive that in all things you are rather superstitious.
23 ௨௩ எப்படியென்றால், நான் சுற்றித்திரிந்து, உங்களுடைய ஆராதனைகளை கவனித்துப் பார்த்தபொழுது, “அறியப்படாத தேவனுக்கு” என்று எழுதியிருக்கிற ஒரு பலிபீடத்தைப் பார்த்தேன்; நீங்கள் அறியாமல் ஆராதனை செய்கிற அவரையே நான் உங்களுக்கு அறிவிக்கிறேன்.
For as I was passing by and noticing your idols, I also found an altar, on which was written: TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Therefore, what you worship in ignorance, this is what I am preaching to you:
24 ௨௪ உலகத்தையும் அதிலுள்ள எல்லாவற்றையும் உண்டாக்கின தேவனானவர் வானத்திற்கும் பூமிக்கும் ஆண்டவராக இருக்கிறபடியால், கைகளினால் கட்டப்பட்ட கோவில்களில் அவர் குடியிருப்பதில்லை.
the God who made the world and all that is in it, the One who is the Lord of heaven and earth, who does not live in temples made with hands.
25 ௨௫ எல்லோருக்கும் ஜீவனையும் சுவாசத்தையும் எல்லாவற்றையும் கொடுக்கிற ஆண்டவர், தமக்கு ஏதாவது தேவையென்றால், மனிதர்கள் கைகளினால் பெற்றுக்கொள்வதில்லை.
Neither is he served by the hands of men, as if in need of anything, since it is he who gives to all things life and breath and all else.
26 ௨௬ மனித இனமான எல்லா மக்களையும் அவர் ஒரே இரத்தத்தினாலே உண்டாக்கி, பூமியெங்கும் குடியிருக்கச்செய்து, முன் தீர்மானிக்கப்பட்ட காலங்களையும் அவர்கள் குடியிருக்கும் எல்லைகளையும் குறித்திருக்கிறார்;
And he has made, out of one, every family of man: to live upon the face of the entire earth, determining the appointed seasons and the limits of their habitation,
27 ௨௭ கர்த்தராகிய அவரை மக்கள் தடவியாவது தேடிக் கண்டுபிடிக்கும்படி அப்படிச் செய்தார்; அவர் நம் ஒவ்வொருவருக்கும் அருகில் உள்ளார்.
so as to seek God, if perhaps they may consider him or find him, though he is not far from each one of us.
28 ௨௮ ஏனென்றால், அவருக்குள் நாம் பிழைக்கிறோம், அசைகிறோம், இருக்கிறோம்; அப்படியே உங்களுடைய புலவர்களிலும் சிலர், நாம் அவருடைய வம்சத்தார் என்று சொல்லியிருக்கிறார்கள்.
‘For in him we live, and move, and exist.’ Just as some of your own poets have said. ‘For we are also of his family.’
29 ௨௯ நாம் தேவனுடைய வம்சமாக இருப்பதினால், மனிதனுடைய யோசனையினாலும் சித்திரவேலையினாலும் உருவாக்கின தங்கம், வெள்ளி, கல் ஆகியவற்றிக்கு தெய்வம் ஒப்பாவார் என்று நாம் நினைக்கக்கூடாது.
Therefore, since we are of the family of God, we must not consider gold or silver or precious stones, or the engravings of art and of the imagination of man, to be a representation of what is Divine.
30 ௩0 மக்களின் அறியாமையின் நாட்களை தேவன் பார்க்காதவர்போல இருந்தார்; இப்பொழுது மனம் மாறவேண்டும் என்று எல்லா மனிதர்களுக்கும் கட்டளையிடுகிறார்.
And indeed, God, having looked down to see the ignorance of these times, has now announced to men that everyone everywhere should do penance.
31 ௩௧ ஒரு நாளைக் குறித்திருக்கிறார்; அந்த நாளிலே அவர் தாம் நியமித்த மனிதனைக்கொண்டு, பூலோகத்தை நீதியாக நியாயந்தீர்ப்பார்; அந்த மனிதனை மரித்தோரிலிருந்து உயிரோடு எழுப்பினதினாலே அதின் நிச்சயத்தை எல்லோருக்கும் விளங்கப்பண்ணினார் என்றான்.
For he has appointed a day on which he will judge the world in equity, through the man whom he has appointed, offering faith to all, by raising him from the dead.”
32 ௩௨ மரித்தவர்களின் உயிர்த்தெழுதலைக்குறித்து பவுல் சொல்வதை அவர்கள் கேட்டபோது, சிலர் கேலிசெய்தார்கள். சிலர்: நீ சொல்லுகிறதை வேறொரு நாளில் கேட்போம் என்றார்கள்.
And when they had heard about the Resurrection of the dead, indeed, some were derisive, while others said, “We will listen to you about this again.”
So Paul departed from their midst.
34 ௩௪ சிலர் பவுலோடு சேர்ந்துகொண்டு, விசுவாசிகளானார்கள். அவர்களில் மார்ஸ் மேடையின் நியாயாதிபதிகளில் ஒருவனாகிய தியொனீசியு என்பவனும், தாமரி என்னும் பெயருள்ள ஒரு பெண்ணும், வேறு சிலரும் இருந்தார்கள்.
Yet truly, certain men, adhering to him, did believe. Among these were also Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.
