2 சாமுவேல் 20
1 ௧ அப்பொழுது பென்யமீன் மனிதனான பிக்கிரியின் மகனான சேபா என்னும் பெயருள்ள பிரச்சினைக்குரிய மனிதன் ஒருவன் தற்செயலாக அங்கே இருந்தான்; அவன் எக்காளம் ஊதி: எங்களுக்கு தாவீதிடம் பங்கும் இல்லை, ஈசாயின் மகனிடம் எங்களுக்குச் சுதந்தரமும் இல்லை; இஸ்ரவேலர்களே, நீங்கள் அவரவர் தங்கள் வீடுகளுக்குப் போய்விடுங்கள் என்றான்.
A rabble-rouser called Sheba, son of Bichri, from the tribe of Benjamin, happened to be there. He blew the ram's horn and shouted: “We have no interest in David, no commitment to Jesse's son. Israelites, let's all go home!”
2 ௨ அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேல் மனிதர்கள் எல்லோரும் தாவீதைவிட்டுப் பிரிந்து, பிக்கிரியின் மகனான சேபாவைப் பின்பற்றிப் போனார்கள்; யோர்தான் தொடங்கி எருசலேம் வரையுள்ள யூதா மனிதர்கள் தங்கள் ராஜாவைச் சார்ந்திருந்தார்கள்.
So all the men of Israel abandoned David to follow Sheba, son of Bichri. But the men of Judah accompanied their king all the way from the Jordan to Jerusalem.
3 ௩ தாவீது எருசலேமிலுள்ள தன்னுடைய வீட்டிற்கு வந்தபோது, வீட்டைக்காக்க ராஜா வைத்துப்போன பத்து மறுமனையாட்டிகளையும் வரவழைத்து, அவர்களை ஒரு காவல் வீட்டிலே வைத்துப் பராமரித்தான்; அதன்பின்பு அவர்களிடம் அவன் உறவு வைத்துக்கொள்ளவில்லை; அப்படியே அவர்கள் மரணமடைகிற நாட்கள்வரை அடைக்கப்பட்டு, உயிரோடிருக்கிற நாட்களெல்லாம் விதவைகளைப்போல இருந்தார்கள்.
When David returned to his palace in Jerusalem, he took the ten concubines he had left to look after the palace and put them in a house under guard. He took care of their needs but he didn't sleep with them. They were imprisoned until they died, living like widows.
4 ௪ பின்பு ராஜா அமாசாவைப் பார்த்து: நீ யூதா மனிதர்களை மூன்று நாட்களுக்குள்ளே என்னிடம் வரவழைத்து, நீயும் வந்து இருக்கவேண்டும் என்றான்.
Then the king ordered Amasa, “Call up the army of Judah. Have them come to me within three days, and you come too.”
Amasa called up the army of Judah, but he took longer than the time he was given.
6 ௬ அப்பொழுது தாவீது அபிசாயைப் பார்த்து: அப்சலோமைவிட பிக்கிரியின் மகனான சேபா, இப்பொழுது நமக்கு தீங்கு செய்வான்; அவன் பாதுகாப்பான பட்டணங்களுக்கு வந்தடைந்து, நம்முடைய கண்களுக்குத் தப்பிப்போகாதபடி, நீ உன் எஜமானுடைய வீரர்களை அழைத்துக்கொண்டு, அவனைப் பின்தொடர்ந்துபோ என்றான்.
David then spoke to Abishai, saying, “Now Sheba the son of Bichri is going to cause us more trouble than Absalom did. Take the king's men and chase him down, or he will take over fortified towns and get away from us.”
7 ௭ அப்படியே யோவாபின் மனிதர்களும், கிரேத்தியர்களும் பிலேத்தியர்களும், எல்லா வலிமையான வீரர்களும் அவனுக்குப்பின்பாகப் புறப்பட்டு, பிக்கிரியின் மகனான சேபாவைப் பின்தொடர்வதற்கு எருசலேமிலிருந்து போனார்கள்.
So Joab's men, along with the Cherethites, the Pelethites, and all the experienced fighters, marched out of Jerusalem to chase down Sheba, son of Bichri.
8 ௮ அவர்கள் கிபியோனின் பக்கத்தில் இருக்கிற பெரிய பாறை அருகில் வந்தபோது, அமாசா அவர்களுக்கு எதிராக வந்தான்; யோவாபோ, தான் அணிந்துகொண்டிருக்கிற தன்னுடைய சட்டையின்மேல் ஒரு வாரைக் கட்டியிருந்தான்; அதில் உறையோடு ஒரு பட்டயம் அவன் இடுப்பில் தொங்கினது; அவன் புறப்படும்போது அது விழுந்தது.
While they were at the large rock in Gibeon, Amasa caught up with them. Joab was dressed for battle. Over his clothes was a belt around his waist with a dagger in its sheath. As he moved forward, it fell out.
9 ௯ அப்பொழுது யோவாப் அமாசாவைப் பார்த்து: என்னுடைய சகோதரனே, சுகமாக இருக்கிறாயா என்று சொல்லி, அமாசாவை முத்தம்செய்யும்படி, தன்னுடைய வலது கையினால் அவன் தாடியைப் பிடித்து,
“How are you doing, my brother?” Joab asked Amasa. Joab held Amasa by the beard with his right hand to kiss him.
10 ௧0 தன்னுடைய கையிலிருக்கிற பட்டயத்திற்கு அமாசா எச்சரிக்கையாக இல்லாமலிருந்தபோது, யோவாப் அவனை அவனுடைய குடல்கள் தரையிலே விழும்படி, அதினால் வயிற்றிலே ஒரே குத்தாக குத்தினான்; அவன் இறந்துபோனான்; அப்பொழுது யோவாபும் அவனுடைய சகோதரனான அபிசாயும் பிக்கிரியின் மகனான சேபாவைப் பின்தொடர்ந்தார்கள்.
Amasa wasn't prepared for the dagger in Joab's left hand. Joab stabbed him in the belly and his intestines poured out onto the ground. Joab didn't need to stab him twice, because Amasa was already dead. Then Joab and his brother Abishai set off in pursuit of Sheba.
11 ௧௧ யோவாபுடைய வாலிபர்களில் ஒருவன் இறந்தவன் அருகில் நின்று, யோவாபின்மேல் பிரியப்படுகிறவன் எவனோ, தாவீதை ஆதரிக்கிறவன் எவனோ, அவன் யோவாபைப் பின்பற்றிப்போகட்டும் என்றான்.
One of Joab's men stood beside Amasa and called out, “If you're on Joab's side, and if you are on David's side, then follow Joab!”
12 ௧௨ அமாசா நடுவழியில் இரத்தத்திலே புரண்டுகிடந்தபடியால், மக்கள் எல்லோரும் அங்கேயே நிற்பதை அவன் கண்டு, அமாசாவை வழியிலிருந்து வயலிலே இழுத்துப்போட்டான்; அவன் அருகில் வருகிறவர்கள் எல்லோரும் அங்கேயே நிற்பதைக் கண்டு, ஒரு ஆடையை அவன்மேல் போட்டான்.
But Amasa was there, lying in his blood in the middle of the main road. When the man saw that everybody was stopping to look, he pulled the body off the road into a field and threw a cloth over it.
13 ௧௩ அவன் வழியிலிருந்து எடுத்துப்போடப்பட்ட பின்பு, எல்லோரும் கடந்து, பிக்கிரியின் மகனான சேபாவைப் பின்தொடர, யோவாபுக்குப் பின்னேசென்றார்கள்.
Once Amasa's body was off the road, all the men followed Joab in pursuit of Sheba.
14 ௧௪ அவன் இஸ்ரவேல் கோத்திரங்களையெல்லாம் சுற்றி, பெத்மாக்காவான ஆபேல்வரையும், பேரீமின் கடைசிவரையிலும் வந்திருந்தான்; அந்த இடத்தார்களும் கூடி, தாங்களும் அவனுக்குப் பின்சென்றார்கள்.
In the meantime Sheba had gone around all the tribes of Israel and eventually ended up the town of Abel-beth-maacah. All the Bichrites gathered for battle and followed him into the town.
15 ௧௫ அவர்கள் போய் பெத்மாக்காவான ஆபேலிலே அவனை முற்றுகையிட்டு, பட்டணத்திற்குள் போகத் தடைச்சுவர்களைக் கட்டினார்கள்; யோவாபோடு இருக்கிற இராணுவத்தினர்கள் எல்லோரும் மதிலை விழச்செய்யும்படி அழிக்க முயற்சிசெய்தார்கள்.
Joab's army came and besieged Sheba in Abel-Beth-Maacah. They built a siege ramp against the town's outer wall. While all of Joab's army was battering the wall to knock it down,
16 ௧௬ அப்பொழுது புத்தியுள்ள ஒரு பெண் பட்டணத்திலிருந்து சத்தமிட்டு: கேளுங்கள், கேளுங்கள்; நான் யோவாபோடு பேசவேண்டும்; அவரை இங்கே அருகில் வரச்சொல்லுங்கள் என்றாள்.
a wise woman from the town called out, “Listen! Please listen! Tell Joab, ‘Come over here so I can speak to you.’”
17 ௧௭ அவன் அவளுக்கு அருகில் வந்தபோது, அந்தப் பெண்: நீர்தானா யோவாப் என்று கேட்டாள்; அவன் நான்தான் என்றான்; அப்பொழுது, அவள் அவனைப் பார்த்து: உமது அடியாளின் வார்த்தைகளைக் கேளும் என்றாள்; அவன்: கேட்கிறேன் என்றான்.
He went over to her, and the woman asked, “Are you Joab?” “Yes, that's me,” he replied. “Please listen to what I, your servant, have to say,” she said. “I'm listening,” he replied.
Then the woman said, “In times gone by people used to say, ‘If you want advice, go to Abel,’ and that's how arguments were settled.
19 ௧௯ இஸ்ரவேலிலே நான் சமாதானமும் உண்மையுமுள்ளவளாக இருக்கும்போது, நீர் இஸ்ரவேலிலே தாய் பட்டணமாக இருக்கிறதை அழிக்கவேண்டும் என்று பார்க்கிறீரோ? நீர் யெகோவாவுடைய சுதந்திரத்தை விழுங்கவேண்டியது என்ன என்றாள்.
I am one of the peaceful and faithful people of Israel. You're trying to destroy a town that's like a mother in Israel. Why do you want to tear down the Lord's possession?”
“Certainly not!” Joab answered. “It's not what I want—to destroy or tear down this town!
21 ௨௧ காரியம் அப்படியல்ல; பிக்கிரியின் மகனான சேபா என்னும் பெயருள்ள எப்பிராயீம் மலையை சேர்ந்தவனாக இருக்கிற ஒரு மனிதன், ராஜாவான தாவீதுக்கு விரோதமாகத் தன்னுடைய கையை ஓங்கினான்; அவனைமட்டும் ஒப்புக்கொடுங்கள்; அப்பொழுது பட்டணத்தைவிட்டுப் போவேன் என்றான். அப்பொழுது அந்தப் பெண் யோவாபைப் பார்த்து: இதோ, அவனுடைய தலை மதிலின்மேலிருந்து உம்மிடத்திலே போடப்படும் என்று சொல்லி,
That's not the intention. But a man called Sheba, son of Bichri, from the hill country of Ephraim, has rebelled against the king, against David. Just hand over this one man and I will withdraw from the town.” “Fine,” the woman replied, “his head will be thrown over the wall to you.”
22 ௨௨ அவள் மக்களிடத்தில் போய் புத்தியாகப் பேசியதால், அவர்கள் பிக்கிரியின் மகனான சேபாவின் தலையை வெட்டி, யோவாபிடம் போட்டார்கள்; அப்பொழுது அவன் எக்காளம் ஊதினான்; எல்லோரும் பட்டணத்தைவிட்டுக் கலைந்து, தங்கள் வீடுகளுக்குப் புறப்பட்டுப்போனார்கள்; யோவாபும் ராஜாவிடம் போகும்படி எருசலேமிற்குத் திரும்பினான்.
The woman went and talked with everyone about her wise plan. So they cut off the head of Sheba and threw it to Joab. Then Joab blew the ram's horn to sound the retreat, and all his men left the town and went home. Joab returned to the king in Jerusalem.
23 ௨௩ யோவாப் இஸ்ரவேலுடைய எல்லா இராணுவத்தின்மேலும், யோய்தாவின் மகனான பெனாயா கிரேத்தியர்கள்மேலும் பிலேத்தியர்கள்மேலும் தலைவராக இருந்தார்கள்.
Joab commanded the whole army of Israel. Benaiah, son of Jehoiada, was in charge of the Cherethites and Pelethites.
Adoniram was in charge of the labor force. Jehoshaphat, son of Ahilud, kept the official records.
Sheva was the secretary. Zadok and Abiathar were the priests,
and Ira the Jairite was David's priest.
