1 ௧ சீரிய ராஜாவின் படைத்தலைவனாகிய நாகமான் என்பவன் தன் எஜமானிடத்தில் பெரியவனும் மதிக்கத்தக்கவனுமாக இருந்தான்; அவனைக்கொண்டு யெகோவா சீரியாவுக்கு வெற்றியைக் கொடுத்தார்; மிகவும் பலசாலியாகிய அவனோ தொழுநோயாளியாக இருந்தான்.
Now Naaman, the commander of the army of the king of Aram, was a great man in his master’s sight and highly regarded, for through him the LORD had given victory to Aram. And he was a mighty man of valor, but he was a leper.
2 ௨ சீரியாவிலிருந்து படைகள் புறப்பட்டு, இஸ்ரவேல் தேசத்திலிருந்து ஒரு சிறுபெண்ணைச் சிறைபிடித்துக்கொண்டு வந்திருந்தார்கள்; அவள் நாகமானின் மனைவிக்குப் பணிவிடை செய்துகொண்டிருந்தாள்.
At this time the Arameans had gone out in bands and had taken a young girl from the land of Israel, and she was serving Naaman’s wife.
3 ௩ அவள் தன் எஜமானியைப் பார்த்து: என் எஜமான் சமாரியாவிலிருக்கிற தீர்க்கதரிசியினிடத்தில் போவாரானால் நலமாயிருக்கும்; அவர் இவருடைய தொழுநோயை நீக்கிவிடுவார் என்றாள்.
She said to her mistress, “If only my master would go to the prophet who is in Samaria, he would cure him of his leprosy.”
4 ௪ அப்பொழுது நாகமான் போய், இஸ்ரவேல் தேசத்துப் பெண் சொன்ன காரியங்களைத் தன் எஜமானிடத்தில் அறிவித்தான்.
And Naaman went and told his master what the girl from the land of Israel had said.
5 ௫ அப்பொழுது சீரியாவின் ராஜா: நல்லது போகலாம், இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜாவிற்கு கடிதம் தருகிறேன் என்றான்; அப்படியே அவன் தன் கையிலே பத்துத்தாலந்து வெள்ளியையும், ஆறாயிரம் சேக்கல் எடையுள்ள பொன்னையும், பத்து மாற்றுஉடைகளையும் எடுத்துக்கொண்டுபோய்,
“Go now,” said the king of Aram, “and I will send you with a letter to the king of Israel.” So Naaman departed, taking with him ten talents of silver, six thousand shekels of gold, and ten sets of clothing.
6 ௬ இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜாவிடத்தில் அந்தக் கடிதத்தைக் கொடுத்தான். அதிலே: இந்தக் கடிதத்தை உம்மிடத்தில் என் ஊழியக்காரனாகிய நாகமான் கொண்டுவருவான்; நீர் அவனுடைய தொழுநோயை நீக்கிவிட அவனை உம்மிடத்தில் அனுப்பியிருக்கிறேன் என்று எழுதப்பட்டிருந்தது.
And the letter that he took to the king of Israel stated: “With this letter I am sending my servant Naaman, so that you may cure him of his leprosy.”
7 ௭ இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜா அந்த கடிதத்தை வாசித்தபோது, அவன் தன் உடைகளைக் கிழித்துக்கொண்டு: ஒரு மனிதனை தொழுநோயிலிருந்து சுகப்படுத்தவேண்டும் என்று, அவன் என்னிடத்தில் கடிதம் அனுப்புகிறதற்கு, கொல்லவும் உயிர்ப்பிக்கவும் நான் தேவனா? இவன் என்னை விரோதிக்க வாய்ப்பைத் தேடுகிறான் என்பதைச் சிந்தித்துப்பாருங்கள் என்றான்.
When the king of Israel read the letter, he tore his clothes and asked, “Am I God, killing and giving life, that this man expects me to cure a leper? Surely you can see that he is seeking a quarrel with me!”
8 ௮ இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜா தன் உடைகளைக் கிழித்துக்கொண்ட செய்தியை தேவனுடைய மனிதனாகிய எலிசா கேட்டபோது, அவன்: நீர் உம்முடைய உடைகளை ஏன் கிழித்துக்கொள்ளவேண்டும்? அவன் என்னிடத்தில் வந்து, இஸ்ரவேலிலே தீர்க்கதரிசி உண்டென்பதை அறிந்துகொள்ளட்டும் என்று ராஜாவிற்குச் சொல்லியனுப்பினான்.
Now when Elisha the man of God heard that the king of Israel had torn his clothes, he sent a message to the king: “Why have you torn your clothes? Please let the man come to me, and he will know that there is a prophet in Israel.”
So Naaman came with his horses and chariots and stood at the door of Elisha’s house.
10 ௧0 அப்பொழுது எலிசா: அவனிடத்தில் ஆள் அனுப்பி, நீ போய், யோர்தானில் ஏழுமுறை மூழ்கி எழு; அப்பொழுது உன் சரீரம் புதிதாகி, நீ சுத்தமாவாய் என்று சொல்லச்சொன்னான்.
Then Elisha sent him a messenger, who said, “Go and wash yourself seven times in the Jordan, and your flesh will be restored, and you will be clean.”
11 ௧௧ அதற்கு நாகமான் கடுங்கோபம்கொண்டு, புறப்பட்டுப்போய்: அவன் வெளியே வந்து, தன் தேவனாகிய யெகோவாவுடைய நாமத்தைத் தொழுது, தன் கையினால் அந்த இடத்தைத் தடவி தொழுநோயை நீக்கிவிடுவான் என்று எனக்குள் நினைத்திருந்தேன்.
But Naaman went away angry, saying, “I thought that he would surely come out, stand and call on the name of the LORD his God, and wave his hand over the spot to cure my leprosy.
12 ௧௨ நான் மூழ்கிச் சுத்தமாகிறதற்கு இஸ்ரவேலின் தண்ணீர்கள் எல்லாவற்றைப்பார்க்கிலும் தமஸ்குவின் நதிகளாகிய ஆப்னாவும் பர்பாரும் நல்லதல்லவோ என்று சொல்லி, கோபத்தோடே திரும்பிப்போனான்.
Are not the Abanah and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? Could I not have washed in them and been cleansed?” So he turned and went away in a rage.
13 ௧௩ அவனுடைய வேலைக்காரர்கள் அருகில் வந்து, அவனை நோக்கி: தகப்பனே, அந்தத் தீர்க்கதரிசி ஒரு பெரிய காரியத்தைச் செய்யச் சொல்லியிருந்தால் அதை நீர் செய்வீர் அல்லவா? மூழ்கி எழும், அப்பொழுது சுத்தமாவீர் என்று அவர் உம்மோடே சொல்லும்போது, அதைச் செய்யவேண்டியது எத்தனை அதிகம் என்று சொன்னார்கள்.
Naaman’s servants, however, approached him and said, “My father, if the prophet had told you to do some great thing, would you not have done it? How much more, then, when he tells you, ‘Wash and be cleansed’?”
14 ௧௪ அப்பொழுது அவன் இறங்கி, தேவனுடைய மனிதனின் வார்த்தையின்படியே யோர்தானில் ஏழுமுறை முழுகினபோது, அவனுடைய சரீரம் ஒரு சிறுபிள்ளையின் சரீரத்தைப்போல புதிதாகி, அவன் சுத்தமானான்.
So Naaman went down and dipped himself in the Jordan seven times, according to the word of the man of God, and his flesh was restored and became like that of a little child, and he was clean.
15 ௧௫ அப்பொழுது அவன் தன் கூட்டத்தோடு தேவனுடைய மனிதனிடத்திற்குத் திரும்பிவந்து, அவனுக்கு முன்பாக நின்று: இதோ, இஸ்ரவேலிலிருக்கிற தேவனைத்தவிர பூமியெங்கும் வேறே தேவன் இல்லை என்பதை அறிந்தேன்; இப்போதும் உமது அடியேனுடைய கையிலிருந்து ஒரு காணிக்கை வாங்கிக்கொள்ளவேண்டும் என்றான்.
Then Naaman and all his attendants went back to the man of God, stood before him, and declared, “Now I know for sure that there is no God in all the earth except in Israel. So please accept a gift from your servant.”
16 ௧௬ அதற்கு அவன்: நான் வாங்குகிறதில்லை என்று யெகோவாவுக்கு முன்பாக அவருடைய ஜீவனைக்கொண்டு சொல்லுகிறேன் என்றான்; வாங்கவேண்டும் என்று அவனை வற்புறுத்தியும் மறுத்துவிட்டான்.
But Elisha replied, “As surely as the LORD lives, before whom I stand, I will not accept it.” And although Naaman urged him to accept it, he refused.
17 ௧௭ அப்பொழுது நாகமான்: ஆனாலும் இரண்டு கோவேறு கழுதைகள் சுமக்கத்தக்க இரண்டு பொதி மண் உமது அடியேனுக்குக் கட்டளையிடவேண்டும்; உமது அடியேன் இனிக் கர்த்தருக்கே அல்லாமல், அந்நிய தேவர்களுக்குச் சர்வாங்க தகனத்தையும் பலியையும் செலுத்துவதில்லை.
“If you will not,” said Naaman, “please let me, your servant, be given as much soil as a pair of mules can carry. For your servant will never again make a burnt offering or a sacrifice to any other god but the LORD.
18 ௧௮ ஒரு காரியத்தையே யெகோவா உமது அடியேனுக்கு மன்னிப்பாராக; என் எஜமான் பணிந்துகொள்ள ரிம்மோன் கோவிலுக்குள் பிரவேசிக்கும்போது, நான் அவருக்கு உதவி செய்து ரிம்மோன் கோவிலிலே பணியவேண்டியதாயிருக்கும்; இப்படி ரிம்மோன் கோவிலில் நான் பணியவேண்டிய இந்தக் காரியத்தைக் யெகோவா உமது அடியேனுக்கு மன்னிப்பாராக என்றான்.
Yet may the LORD forgive your servant this one thing: When my master goes into the temple of Rimmon to worship there, and he leans on my arm, and I bow down in the temple of Rimmon, may the LORD forgive your servant in this matter.”
“Go in peace,” said Elisha. But after Naaman had traveled a short distance,
20 ௨0 தேவனுடைய மனிதனாகிய எலிசாவின் வேலைக்காரன் கேயாசி என்பவன், அந்தச் சீரியனாகிய நாகமான் கொண்டுவந்ததை என் எஜமான் அவனுடைய கையிலிருந்து வாங்காமல் அவனை விட்டுவிட்டார்; நான் அவன் பின்னே ஓடி, அவனுடைய கையிலிருந்து ஏதாகிலும் வாங்குவேன் என்று யெகோவாவுடைய ஜீவன்மேல் ஆணையிட்டு,
Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, “Look, my master has spared this Aramean, Naaman, while not accepting what he brought. As surely as the LORD lives, I will run after him and get something from him.”
21 ௨௧ நாகமானைப் பின்தொடர்ந்தான்; அவன் தன் பிறகே ஓடிவருகிறதை நாகமான் கண்டபோது, அவனுக்கு எதிர்கொண்டுபோக இரதத்திலிருந்து குதித்து: சுகசெய்தியா என்று கேட்டான்.
So Gehazi pursued Naaman. And when Naaman saw him running toward him, he got down from the chariot to meet him and asked, “Is everything all right?”
22 ௨௨ அதற்கு அவன்: சுகசெய்திதான்; தீர்க்கதரிசிகளின் கூட்டத்தாரில் இரண்டு வாலிபர்கள் இப்பொழுதுதான் எப்பிராயீம் மலைத்தேசத்திலிருந்து என்னிடத்தில் வந்தார்கள்; அவர்களுக்கு ஒரு தாலந்து வெள்ளியையும், இரண்டு மாற்றுஉடைகளையும் தரவேண்டும் என்று கேட்க, என் எஜமான் என்னை அனுப்பினார் என்றான்.
“Everything is all right,” Gehazi replied. “My master has sent me to say, ‘I have just now discovered that two young men from the sons of the prophets have come to me from the hill country of Ephraim. Please give them a talent of silver and two sets of clothing.’”
23 ௨௩ அதற்கு நாகமான்: தயவுசெய்து, இரண்டு தாலந்தை வாங்கிக்கொள் என்று சொல்லி, அவனை வற்புறுத்தி, இரண்டு தாலந்து வெள்ளியை இரண்டு பைகளில் இரண்டு மாற்றுஉடைகளோடே கட்டி, அவனுக்கு முன்பாகச் சுமந்துபோக, தன் வேலைக்காரர்களான இரண்டுபேர்மேல் வைத்தான்.
But Naaman insisted, “Please, take two talents.” And he urged Gehazi to accept them. Then he tied up two talents of silver in two bags along with two sets of clothing and gave them to two of his servants, who carried them ahead of Gehazi.
24 ௨௪ அவன் மேடான இடத்திற்கு வந்தபோது, அவன் அதை அவர்கள் கையிலிருந்து வாங்கி, வீட்டிலே வைத்து, அந்த மனிதர்களை அனுப்பிவிட்டான்; அவர்கள் போய்விட்டார்கள்.
When Gehazi came to the hill, he took the gifts from the servants and stored them in the house. Then he dismissed the men, and they departed.
25 ௨௫ பின்பு அவன் உள்ளேபோய்த் தன் எஜமானுக்கு முன்பாக நின்றான்; கேயாசியே, எங்கேயிருந்து வந்தாய் என்று எலிசா அவனைக் கேட்டதற்கு, அவன்: உமது அடியான் எங்கும் போகவில்லை என்றான்.
When Gehazi went in and stood before his master, Elisha asked him, “Gehazi, where have you been?” “Your servant did not go anywhere,” he replied.
26 ௨௬ அப்பொழுது அவன் இவனைப்பார்த்து: அந்த மனிதன் உனக்கு எதிர்கொண்டுவரத் தன் இரதத்திலிருந்து இறங்கித் திரும்புகிறபோது என் மனம் உன்னுடன்கூடச் செல்லவில்லையா? பணத்தை வாங்குகிறதற்கும், உடைகளையும் ஒலிவத்தோப்புகளையும் திராட்சைத்தோட்டங்களையும் ஆடுமாடுகளையும் வேலைக்காரர்களையும் வேலைக்காரிகளையும் வாங்குகிறதற்கும் இது காலமா?
But Elisha questioned him, “Did not my spirit go with you when the man got down from his chariot to meet you? Is this the time to accept money and clothing, olive groves and vineyards, sheep and oxen, menservants and maidservants?
27 ௨௭ ஆகையால் நாகமானின் தொழுநோய் உன்னையும் உன் சந்ததியாரையும் என்றைக்கும் பிடித்திருக்கும் என்றான்; உடனே அவன் உறைந்த மழையின் நிறமான தொழுநோயாளியாகி, அவனைவிட்டுப் புறப்பட்டுப்போனான்.
Therefore, the leprosy of Naaman will cling to you and your descendants forever!” And as Gehazi left his presence, he was leprous—as white as snow.
