நீதிமொழிகள் 25
1 யூதாவின் அரசனான எசேக்கியாவின் மனிதர்கள் தொகுத்த சாலொமோனின் நீதிமொழிகள்:
Also these are the proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah the king of Judah have collected.
2 காரியங்களை மறைப்பது இறைவனின் மகிமை; ஆராய்ந்து அறிவதோ அரசனுக்கு மகிமை.
It is the honor of God to conceal a thing; but the honor of kings is to search out a matter.
3 வானங்கள் உயரமாயும் பூமி ஆழமாயும் இருப்பதுபோல், அரசர்களின் இருதயங்களும் ஆராய்ந்து அறிய முடியாது.
As are the heavens for height, and the earth is for depth, so should the heart of kings be unsearchable.
4 வெள்ளியிலிருந்து மாசை அகற்று, அப்பொழுது ஒரு கொல்லன் அதிலிருந்து ஒரு பாத்திரத்தை உருவாக்க முடியும்;
Take away the dross from the silver, and there will come forth a vessel for the melter.
5 அரசனின் முன்னிருந்து தீய அதிகாரிகளை அகற்று; அப்பொழுது நியாயத்தினால் அவனுடைய சிங்காசனம் நிலைநிறுத்தப்படும்.
Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne will be firmly established in righteousness.
6 அரசனின் முன்பாக உன்னை நீயே உயர்த்தாதே, பெரியோர்கள் மத்தியில் இடம்பிடிக்க முயற்சி செய்யாதே;
Do not glorify thyself in the presence of the king, and force thyself not into the place of great men;
7 அரசன் உன்னை பெரியோர்கள் முன்பாக சிறுமைப்படுத்துவதைவிட, “நீ மேலே, இங்கே வா” என்று உனக்கு சொல்வது மேலானது. நீ உன் கண்களாலே கண்டதைப் பற்றிச் சொல்ல,
For better it is that it be said unto thee, “Come up hither,” than that thou shouldst be put lower in the presence of the prince, which thy own eyes have [often] seen.
8 அவசரப்பட்டு நீதிமன்றத்திற்கு ஓடாதே; முடிவில் உன் அயலான் நீ சொல்வது பிழையென்று காட்டி உன்னை வெட்கப்படுத்தினால் நீ என்ன செய்வாய்?
Do not proceed to a contest hastily, lest [thou know not] what thou wilt have to do at its end, when thy neighbor hath put thee to confusion.
9 அயலானோடு உன் வழக்கை வாதிடும்போது, நீ இன்னொருவனின் இரகசியத்தை வெளிப்படுத்தாதே;
Carry on thy cause with thy neighbor; but lay not open the secret of another:
10 அப்படிச் செய்தால் அதைக் கேட்கிறவன் உன்னை வெட்கப்படுத்துவான், உனக்கு உண்டாகும் கெட்ட பெயரும் உன்னைவிட்டு நீங்காது.
Lest he that heareth it put thee to shame, and thy infamy never be removed.
11 ஏற்ற நேரத்தில் பேசப்படும் சரியான வார்த்தை, வெள்ளித்தட்டில் வைக்கப்பட்ட தங்கப்பழங்களைப் போன்றது.
Like apples of gold among figures of silver is a word spoken in a proper manner.
12 ஞானமுள்ளவனின் கண்டனம் செவிகொடுத்துக் கேட்பவனுக்கு அது தங்கக் காதணியும் தரமான தங்க நகையும் போல இருக்கிறது.
As an earring of gold, and a pendant of fine gold, so is a wise reprover toward an ear that listeneth.
13 நம்பகமான தூதுவன் தன்னை அனுப்புகிறவர்களுக்கு அறுவடை நாளில் உறைபனிக் குளிர்ச்சிபோல் இருப்பான்; அவன் தன் எஜமானின் மனதைக் குளிரப்பண்ணுவான்.
As the cooling of snow on a harvest-day, so is a faithful messenger to those that send him; for he refresheth the soul of his master.
14 தான் கொடுக்காத அன்பளிப்புகளைக் குறித்து பெருமையாகப் பேசுகிற மனிதன், மழையைக் கொண்டுவராத மேகத்தையும் காற்றையும் போலிருக்கிறான்.
Like clouds and wind without rain, so is a man that vaunteth falsely of a gift.
15 பொறுமையினால் ஆளுநரையும் இணங்கச் செய்யலாம், சாந்தமான நாவு எலும்பையும் நொறுக்கும்.
By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh bones.
16 நீ தேனைப் பெற்றால் அதை அளவாய்ச் சாப்பிடு; அளவுக்கு மிஞ்சிச் சாப்பிட்டால் வாந்தியெடுப்பாய்.
Hast thou found honey: eat so much as is sufficient for thee: lest thou consume too much of it, and have to vomit it forth.
17 நீ உன் அயலாருடைய வீட்டிற்கு அடிக்கடி போகாதே; அளவுக்கு மிஞ்சிப்போனால் அவர்கள் உன்னை வெறுப்பார்கள்.
Make thy foot scarce in the house of thy friend: lest he have too much of thee, and so hate thee.
18 தன் அயலானுக்கு எதிராக பொய்ச்சாட்சி சொல்கிறவன் தண்டாயுதத்தைப் போலவும், வாளைப்போலவும், கூரான அம்பைப்போலவும் இருக்கிறான்.
A battle-axe, and a sword, and a sharpened arrow is a man that testifieth as a false witness against his neighbor.
19 துன்ப காலத்தில் உண்மையற்ற நபரில் நம்பிக்கை வைப்பது, வலிக்கும் பல்லைப்போலவும் சுளுக்கிய காலைப்போலவும் இருக்கும்.
Like a broken tooth and a foot out of joint, is confidence in a treacherous man in a time of distress.
20 இருதயத்தில் துயரமுள்ளவனுக்கு மகிழ்ச்சிப் பாடல்களைப் பாடுவது, குளிர்க்காலத்தில் அவனுடைய உடையை எடுத்து விடுவது போலவும், காயத்தில் புளித்த காடியை வார்ப்பது போலவும் இருக்கும்.
[As] he that taketh off his garment on a cold day, [as] vinegar is upon natron: so is he that singeth songs before an unhappy heart.
21 உனது பகைவன் பசியாயிருந்தால், அவனுக்குச் சாப்பிடுவதற்கு உணவு கொடு; அவன் தாகமாயிருந்தால், குடிப்பதற்குத் தண்ணீர் கொடு.
If thy enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink;
22 அப்படிச் செய்வதினால் நீ அவனுடைய தலையின்மேல் எரியும் நெருப்புத் தணல்களைக் குவிப்பாய்; யெகோவா கட்டாயமாய் உனக்கு வெகுமதி அளிப்பார்.
For though thou gatherest coals of fire upon his head, yet will the Lord repay it unto thee.
23 வாடைக்காற்று நிச்சயமாகவே மழையைக் கொண்டுவருவதுபோல, வஞ்சகநாவு கோபமுகத்தைக் கொண்டுவரும்.
The north wind bringeth forth rain: so doth secret talking, angry countenances.
24 சண்டைக்கார மனைவியுடன் வீட்டில் ஒன்றாய் வாழ்வதைவிட, கூரையின் மூலையில் தனித்து வாழ்வது சிறந்தது.
It is better to dwell in the corner of a roof, than with a quarrelsome woman even in a roomy house.
25 தூரதேசத்திலிருந்து வருகிற நற்செய்தி, களைத்த ஆத்துமாவுக்குக் கிடைத்த குளிர்ந்த தண்ணீர்போல் இருக்கும்.
As cold water is to a fainting soul, so are good news from a far-off country.
26 கொடியவனுக்கு முன்னால் தளர்வடையும் நீதிமான், சேறு நிறைந்த நீரூற்றைப் போலவும் அசுத்தமடைந்த கிணற்றைப் போலவும் இருக்கிறான்.
Like a turbid spring and a corrupt fountain, is a righteous man that giveth way before the wicked.
27 தேனை அளவுக்கதிகமாய் உண்பது நல்லதல்ல, தற்புகழைத் தேடுவதும் மதிப்பிற்குரியதல்ல.
To eat too much honey is not good: so is it honor to set a limit to men's honor.
28 தன்னடக்கம் இல்லாத மனிதன் மதிலிடிந்த பட்டணத்தைப் போலிருக்கிறான்.
Like a city that is broken in, and is without walls: so is the man that hath no control over his spirit.
